Hi hi! I'm sure you have loads of asks to get through. But if you may, we talk a lot about Chilchuck and Marcille (as we should 'cause they're great!), but since you've mentioned that Laios is your fave char, I would love to hear if you have any takes on Laios and Izutsumi's dynamic. I feel sometimes like she doesn't really like him...? It's funny but I also feel bad for him sometimes. ^^;;

You can’t ask me this and expect me to not drop everything else I’m doing. Little did you know they are my brotp. They are so special. Izutsumi gets along more with literally everyone in the party, but their relationship was so narratively important. They’re a really underrated and overlooked dynamic! I’ve had them as a topic at the back of my mind for a while, seeing someone else interested was all the push I needed gdbdg. This isn’t super long though, their issues with each other and lil arc is surprisingly brief and easy to summarize.

Laios & Izutsumi : what’s their deal with each other

For me one foundational train of thought for Izutsumi & Laios is, well. I read this awesome smart post deconstructing how Izutsumi’s beef with Laios is because she only just broke free and wants freedom without having someone ordering her around, and that’s sort of her whole character arc, isn’t it?

Isn’t Izutsumi’s picky eating a reflection of just that? In a life where she was a slave, she could at least control what she chose to eat and not eat. But then you might wonder, why did the narrative want her to grow out of that? Simply put, Izutsumi has a contrarian streak, one that is often extremely counterproductive. We saw that especially near the beginning, with how hard it was to make her work with them as a team. The issue is that now that she is free, she needs to not block out others by habit, to not lash out and refuse the healthy things in life, the people who want good for her. And that’s something that’s addressed in the succubus chapter as well as the fight against the ice golem, that she shouldn’t insist that she can do everything alone and fight against any team effort.

I love how onesided the Laios izutsumi dynamic is. He stays away from her generally, like doesn’t interact much, but he wants the cat pats… Which Izu made clear she did NOT want. And Chil is the only one in the party to not really see her as a cat for most of the story really, as shown in the relationship chart. He’s well meaning and wants the best for her, but he crowds her and doesn’t understand her at all. But he reallyyy wants to get along with her.

On the other hand, Izutsumi’s very existence and identity gave Laios an immense amount of hope that Falin could be brought back and still be herself and live well, even if she still had part of a dragon’s soul in her. I think that’s a lovely way to contrast the way that Izutsumi hates herself as a beastkin and her body, while Laios is like "Thank you, your existence as you are is the answer to all my worries" AND he super likes monster bodies and beastkins so it’s like. I think part of her hostility to him, besides feeling like he doesn’t understand her perspective and is maybe dismissive of what his party members want (which would remind her of Maizuru to some degree probably), is that he says all these good things about her being a beastkin, and it’s so jarring with her own version of herself that it raises her hackles and she reacts negatively, especially with how flippant and eager he is about it. But yes like, this is their first meeting!! Beyond his interest in her as a beastkin because of his monster hobby, Laios is just so very grateful for her and chooses to put his trust in her.

That’s interesting too, how one of the first things she asks about upon meeting them is why the hell they would want to rescue Falin even if she were to stay as a chimera-beastkin and still have the dragon soul in her. It’s her asking "Who would want to stick with a beastkin?" thinking that there’s something fundamentally wrong with having two souls and it making you unlovable. And their differing views on monsters do make them clash

But ultimately he chills out about her, which ironically enough shows in the way that they don’t interact much- He gives her space, and accepts that the beastkin may not like him. BUT at the end of the day they have an incredible bond of trust- Laios asks Izutsumi to kill him if something goes wrong with the Winged Lion. Not only is that sort of an intimate request and act, but that means that he leaves it up to Izutsumi’s judgement as well to know if it went wrong and when to act. He doesn’t only trust her skills but also her decision making, despite how tough they’ve been on each other in the past. He’s giving her the ultimate role, the go ahead to make or break their plan and be the difference between saving or destroying the world. And the last tidbit of info we get on their relationship in canon is when she hides behind him because she’s shy- Certified having befriended the cat moment. She trusts him and sees him as a safe person! And by saying that she’s shy, he’s showing that he did end up understanding her and how she is.

No matter the rocky parts of their relationship, they still have a strong foundation to it and were great allies and road companions, one of the few persons that had each other’s back when it mattered the most, both for the world and for their personal arcs. And post-canon, well…

He’s accepted that she needs space and whatnot, and meanwhile she’s accepted his interest in monsters and taken it in stride 😌 They end up having this familiarity with each other and even if there’s still a bunch of emotional distance imo and they never really got into the nitty gritty with each other not like her with Chilchuck or even Marcille, they see each other. They nod in greeting and respect each other from afar……. But also still tease and chat familiarly up close and if she offers him the opportunity for cuddles he will take it. You know, if it’s not her just falling onto him because she’s sleeping she has no respect.

Siblings behavior… If you know my take on the general party dynamics, I love thinking of Laios & Izu’s dynamic as him being an older brother figure where they have a love-hate relationship. Siblings rivalry. I have a bunch of funny little doodles I’ve wanted to make with them for months, the prompts for which are in the screenshot put below. But yeah like you know, they’re protective of each other but in that very critical way as well, truly forged by being stuck with each other for a while and having to come to understand and accept how the other is. Strife with conflict, but ultimately sticking with each other through thick and thin… Siblings siblings SIBLINGS SIBLINGS SIBLINGS. Sigh I just want them to cuddle on a couch and she purrs while simultaneously being snide and mean to him, they are so… Izutsumi is the character ever

Oh, which! While I’m here, I always recommend this fanfic about the two of them interacting and Laios treating her like a cat, it’s just fun and lighthearted. They’re suuuuch an underrated duo

If I find more Laios & Izu moments I think are worth sharing I’ll just add it onto this I think. We shouldn’t be too hard on him he was raised by dogs so cats are a whole other language to him but also, so wild to me that he never tried to engage with her on a cat level properly like where is the hissing at the catgirl and the cat taming moments, he sucks at socializing with cats smh smh.

I want to do an analysis of queerness in Dungeon Meshi with relationships and social norms and stuff and Izutsumi’s arc is gonna be central to that too. Her relationship with EVERYONE is SOOO GOOD AND IMPORTANT AND COMPELLING. But I guess this is where I leave it off for now, I hope I’m not forgetting any point I wanted to make hmmm

mari/akilah. they've been gfs from the start. they went from not really knowing each other to clinging to each other. akilah becoming the most important person to mari, the one she can be the most vulnerable around, the one that she trusts the most. mari letting akilah cheat at choosing cards (and akilah deciding against it) because she's her person.

tai/van. they fascinate me sooo much. a casual hookup turned serious that could never be maintained once they leave the wilderness. the conflict in their views and the way tai shoots her down and van learns to speak up. the love that is this common thread between them even when that happens.

lottie/laura lee. laura lee as the only person to actually talk to lottie and make her feel heard and validated. no one in her life has ever done that, and in the wilderness she's probably overheard people talking about how weird she is acting and how she lost it and she's gone crazy, which isn't great when looking at her dad! but laura lee supported her and trusted her and had this long-lasting forever kind of impact on her.

shauna/nat. who am i if i don't force them to be included. they are real to me. they meet in person for the first time and it reeks of jealousy and love gone bad. i am entirely convinced they had an affair idc. they talk shit about each other. they love each other. shauna is jealous of nat, shauna loves nat, nat loves shauna. they cry over each other. shauna nurses nat back to warmth. nat begs and begs for people to help shauna. the hunter & the butcher. they are everything. i love reminding people that when nat picked the queen card we see shauna's reaction <3 it's not just because of what comes next <3 she's second because she's second to travis in this essay i---- they are real to me <3

layla keating (all american). i added her during or at the end of season 2 or maybe at the end of s1 it's hard to remember now and it was mostly for olivia/layla w/ cj reasons but the more we got of her, the quicker she became an actual and instant fave. her depression arc(s) is one of my favorites of all time, and it's handled really well imo. she's so complex and layered and fascinating, and i will defend and love her forever

spencer hastings (pretty little liars). at this point she is also a part of me. i don't even know if i can list the reasons why she's in my top 5, especially when all the pll girls are so important to me, but this show and char are a piece of me.

daisy johnson (agents of shield). while i think mari is making her way into All Time Favorite Chars territory, i need to go with another that I always come back to (and the one on this list that I Do Not Write). daisy's story is just so important to me. she finds a home, a place, a family, and a people. she finds a purpose. she finds love. despite everything she goes through and went through, she has so much heart. she fights for what she believes in, she hates herself despite being the best person ever, she shines like the sun and kicks ass like no other. she's a hacker with a heart of gold. she's everything to me.

Imperial Uncle: got to a twist about halfway through that I was fully not expecting but it was very fun, and the story in now drastically different than I thought it would be when I started but I am still enjoying it a lot

The Death I Gave Him: one of the most interesting questions to me in any Hamlet adaptation/retelling is what to do with Gertrude, what her role in the murder was, etc, and I'm enjoying the way this novel handles that. shout out to unethical science milfs

TGCF: regarding last week's episode, since we watched it after last week's wednedsaypost: on one hand, beef of beefleaf fame! my beloved! they looked extremely good! ("op they were chained up & disheveled" yeah exactly) on the other, the racism and also the transmisogyny. not that any of this was surprising because it's in the novel too, but it sure sucks to have racist caricatures and also to repeatedly treat the gender shifting & crossdressing as a joke and/or with disgust. regarding this week's episode: rip to Hua Cheng :/ sorry your crush burned your house down :/ I don't remember this arc super well because it was kinda overshadowed (for me) by having Ghost City and then the start of book 2 on either side of it, and as primarily a beefleaf & Mu Qing main I have priorities

Bakeoff: so the technical was a shitshow in a way that is 100% on the judges for not giving them enough time like. sorry that's what it means when every single person underbakes it. however. I literally laughed so hard I was in physical pain when everyone was presenting their horrible liquid puddings so who could say if it was bad or not

Hunter x Hunter: I do love where Killua's arc goes but I also really enjoy this early bit where he's just incredibly competent & terrifying and kicks everyone's ass without breaking a sweat. good for him, sorry about what led you to this point tho

Legend of the Galactic Heroes: other things happened in the episodes that I watched but I will be honest, most of it is wiped away by the preview for next episode showing me an incredibly major character death. um. aside from that. I do like the battle sequences, I love when a show is a couple of guys in a room going "I think this is the enemy's plan, here's what we're going to do about it" and then you see some different guys in a different room going "this is our plan, I hope this is how they react to it" and so on. also I like the narrator as kind of like. a historical accounting of the events, both because I like stories about the narrative construction of history and also because it means everything happens on very specific dates and I love having clear ideas of timelines

ZZ Gundam: finished ZZ! in general I enjoyed it (though I still prefer Zeta) and there are some really fun moments, especially with the Gundam Team, and I like Haman a lot as an antagonist. I didn't realize how close we were to the end until we had like 4 episodes left because the pacing is. kind of interesting. lot more "going to a place and fucking around for a while" than I expected, and sometimes it works better than other times. most of my ~critiques are things I already said last week (the misogyny, the ways in which the critiques of western military intervention in Africa & southwest Asia fall flat due to the white saviorism & none of it really getting a chance to be developed properly, etc) so I'm not gonna go into all that again, but I am going to just mention one of the wildest things which is that they refer to Dublin as "a city in what used to be Britain" which is. a loaded thing to say in 2023 let alone in the 1980s. lmao

I'm in Love with the Villainess: a fun yuri isekai about someone with a shitty job who gets transported into the world of her favorite otome game except instead of giving a shit about any of the male love interests she just wants to spend all her time with the female antagonist. it's very light and silly, and we're watching it as a short break before diving into more Gundam. I do love it when there are lesbians and little hints of class conflict simmering just under the surface

Ace Attorney 5: some mixed feelings about what I've gotten through this week. I love to see Edgeworth and I'm so compelled by Aura & Simon (individually and also as siblings), but I don't like how Trucy continues to be incredibly sidelined, and whenever they talk about the "dark age of the law" I kind of feel like. ok. look. it is just factually incorrect that it's only now that people cheat in court and only care about winning, and also the idea that overturning one (1) false conviction will fix the problems of the legal system is laughable. especially considering 1) everything about Von Karma 2) Edgeworth's entire backstory and 3) the fact that Phoenix spent the 7 year gap inventing a new legal system that everyone forgot about I guess. anyway. I do love Aura a lot though

Blades in the Dark: finally was able to run another session in my Blades campaign, in which the party. checks notes. performed a reverse bank heist. and also a normal bank heist. sometimes you have to break into a bank to leave something in a specific vault and you steal some other stuff along the way

making: finished building Miorine, so she is no longer a disembodied head and can now stand on the shelf with her wife. I'm not a huge fan of some the proportions/posing of the model, she has. like. woman in a comic book proportions that she doesn't have in the actual show (Imo the worst of it is her arched spine which you can't see here but I was surprised because Suletta has just. a normal spine)

drinking: Down East's cider donut-flavored cider because, once again, I love a seasonal fun little drink. this one's not as dry as the equivalent Citizens Cider I posted about a couple of weeks ago but Down East's stuff does tend to be a little sweeter in general. extremely good though, to be clear

writing: I added a section to my wip doc for my Nirvana in Fire exchange fic and copied over my giftee's prompts but I have not started on it and other than that I've done no writing. oops.

bronya zaychik is my fave char ever and i love her with c12 being the best chaptr ever but then all i ever see posts talking about how great welt is. then in canon every single thign bronya does right involves INGORING him. like him insisting reason can only make things exactly as known like shes wrong for inventing a new gun. anyway truth is bronya ignoring welt. plus its official bronya's only in apho2 as hanser asked, so making welt herrsher of reason again makes no sence other than just wanting to not have bronya in story. alien space is about welt AGAIN and takes place after. hsr? yep he's a major character now. please let me be free of this boring man

please make peace with the fact that welt is quite literally no joke dawei (one of the founders of mihoyo the company)'s self insert and as such he can do whatever the fuck he wants

you are both overestimating and misinterpreting how welt contributes to bronya's arc. the purpose behind the gun demonstration from the story part you're thinking of is for welt to show bronya that "knowing" and reconstructing through the reason core isn't infallible, and that assessments have to be made for more than just previously established information. he was telling her that she needs to learn more and be able to inference when using reason's powers. clearly the concept of inferencing is lost on you

welt does not majorly feature in apho. he is considered the inciting incident and kicks around a bit, but apho 2 is more about setting up the sky people, void archives, and a bit of post canon happenings for schicksal. bronya is an anti-honkai task force leader and is playable. welt is not. are you out of your fucking mind

welt is a supporting character to bronya's arc. bronya's arc is about accumulation of knowledge, legacy, and truth. accumulation of knowledge is in regards to everything she's learned, and how she needs to sort out what is necessary to move forward (ie her survival instincts were helpful in the context of the harsh environment of her childhood, but she needs to come to terms with the fact that she can process the world through more than black and white). legacy, in the form of the herrscher of reason core, which makes her contend with not only her will, but the will of 300,000 people who only agree to band together for the sake of fighting for humanity. this is all pulled together with truth, in that humanity's inevitable truth is that truth changes inevitably. even with all the information she's learned, everything she's gained through looking at the past and from her own experiences, she will always find something new that alters her perception.

i laughed out loud. welt is not a major character in hsr. i just think he was chosen to be in hsr wholesale because see point 2, but also because he is the only major hi3 character from the story thats not playable or a boss

again please fucking make peace with the fact that welt is a self insert for a literal founder of the company and as such he can do whatever the fuck he wants in the studio did you just not know this its not like its particularly hidden information

Basic Requesting Rules:

Always check if my requests are open or not. This can be found on my main pinned post, and it’s always up to date. The only place this may not be up to date is on my wips/ideas post.

I do not write NSFW stuff. It’s not that the topic altogether is an instant no, it’s just that I don’t enjoy writing it, and really I don’t like reading it either. I’m okay with alluding to it or whatever, just not writing out the act itself.

Do not send me something you’ve sent another writer. I’ve seen this happen a lot surprisingly. People will send in requests that they’ve sent other writers on here, except they won’t even change anything. Copy pasted requests that I’ve seen others write will automatically be deleted. Quite frankly, it’s rude. We write for free. If you’re not happy with one person’s product, get over it. Now- this doesn’t mean you can’t send in the same trope or scenario that you’ve seen in other fics. That’s completely different and okay.

If I have an event going on, I am only taking requests for that event. This one’s pretty self explanatory. If I have an event where I listed prompts, don’t submit your own idea.

I only write character x female reader, char x afab and/or gender neutral reader. I write as a hobby for myself (as in I like to insert myself while reading/writing) and I can’t really do that when it’s a male reader, if that makes sense.

I will not write for specific physical traits. Not everybody looks the same, whether it’s skin color, hair length/style, eye color, height, etc. When you write a reader who looks a specific way, it ruins it for everybody else that doesn’t fit those traits. I’m sick of the reader being less than 5 feet tall lmao

I do not write character x character content. I don’t ship literally anything. And there’s plenty of ships that I’m super uncomfortable with even being reminded that they exist, so… I don’t do any of them. Don’t even mention them to me, no I’m never going to change my mind about disliking it (the specific one I have a huge issue with, iykyk)

Characters I Will Write For:

I don’t write for characters that I do not romantically like. I tend to only hyperfixate on the characters I’m attracted to and because of that I don’t feel I can do a good job writing for others. It’s very possible I’ll make it too OOC. Also, with One Piece I tend to skip around arcs and there’s tons of characters who I can put a face to a name, but haven’t seen a single episode with them in it. Here’s the characters I will write for:

• Trafalgar Law - He’s no longer my main fixation, but since he’s my favorite OP character and because I still romantically like him, I will write for him.

• Levi Ackerman - I’m aware most of you who follow me don’t care for my Levi stuff, but I’d still accept requests for him!

• Portgas D. Ace - I don’t write for him as much anymore, but he’s easy to write for and is a really fun character to write!

• Nami - I’m only like semi-romantically attracted to her, but she’s still one of my faves.

• Nico Robin - same thing as for Nami.

• Sooga (Age Of Calamity) - my main fixation right now. So I’d do literally anything for this man.

Things I’m uncomfortable with (TW for various)

I don’t really do angst unless there’s a happy ending. My mental state is already shit so reading things where the reader dies or gets broken up with kills me lol. I just can’t do it.

Please absolutely no requests that have anything to do with ANY type of drug/substance (with an exception for light drinking, but that’s a maybe). This one is actually upsetting for me. I’ve experienced tragic death with these things and it genuinely upsets me to think about that stuff. Even without that happening I already had a dislike for that stuff. So…. Yeah.

oh hmmm...

in the past i'd have said fave char shego, but now it's probably drakken. as a kid i adored nicole sullivan after her portrayal of mira in buzz lightyear, so when shego first walked onscreen and i see this bombshell with the best hair ever in a knock-off harley quin/power ranger costume and nicole's voice came out.... yeah. fave char. but now as an adult, drakken is the more intellectually stimulating cuz he has more obvious character complexities...

also ron for the same reasons. character complexities, so much development... his character arc especially with the monkey fist stuff is my fave.

so for fave eps... it's always a back and forth between Graduation, and Mad Dogs and Aliens, as to which is my fave. drakgo character development in both, and ron development in the former... they both just have so much to offer and i never get tired of them.

i also really like Exchange when ron goes to japan, cuz it's huge for his character development and gets to show him apart from kim.

other episodes that are iconic like Rappin Drakken, Go Team Go but moreso Stop Team Go, Emotion Sickness... they're all great i think for the level of world development and character development they bring. So the Drama is top notch, it never gets old.

those are the ones off the top of my head. i have others but those are all pretty stand-out.

the saddest thing abt idw is i just wanna read abt my fave sonic characters. sonic amy tails knux is my dream team and the chars in this series are all really important to me so it kind of sucks that instead giving spotlight to characters that arent really in the games much (cream!! the chaotix!!) im given like. ocs. idm surge but im not caught up and i already feel the surge fatigue. my issue with all of the idw ocs is that oh my god their characters drag so much (belle omfg its been like 20 issues) where i feel theyd be better as 1 or 2 issue additions that dont take too much focus away from the main cast. (2/2) the other thing is like. if there was less focus on the ocs (they even have a spinoff??) we'd get more content of the main characters and maybe a few more moments of decent characterisation. a broken clock is right twice a day yknow. there Are still small moments in idw ive rlly liked

It's funny that you say that you don't like the focus on minor characters like Cream and the Chaotix because from what I've seen, that's exactly one of the reasons fans adore Flynn: his bringing back and fleshing out minor characters such as Gemerl, and adding interactions you wouldn't normally see (Knuckles and Amy, Sonic and Espio) :P to be fair, while I'm of the opposite mind and I like when minor characters are given another chance, the Season of Chaos story was super cute and I would like something similar with the Modern cast. IDW could easily have been a slice of life comic with the main characters, like the Sonic Channel stories of last year. Oh well.

I honestly forgot the last time canon characters got the spotlight. The last arc before Surge and Kit's introduction was Amy going camping with a bunch of OCs, instead of Cream and Rouge like she coulv have. When was the last time we've even seen Knuckles, outside of the annual with Blaze? I think the Chaotix got the spotlight in... ehh #48, but they were so pointless. Because of Surge and Kit's nature, the story has become the Sonic & Tails show... which is what the modern games have been accused of. You see anyone complaining? Of course not.

Anyway, hard agree with the dragging of characters. IDW's pacing is glacial. We had to deal with Surge and Kit for less than a year, and I'm already sick of them, because they didn't really do anything in the meantime, we just had #50 and I ranted long enough about the Sonic vs. Surge "fight".

Some characters really feel like they should have been much more minor. Starline got killed off like a minor bad guy instead of the main villain that he became by replacing Eggman. Belle's main appeal was discovering her origins story, and now that it's been confirmed, she has nothing relevant to do. Surge and Kit's story could have been interesting, with their fake identities, but it's been derailed for reasons I don't understand.

Then again, the focus on OCs is out of mere convenience :)

This is a really hard one. I don't really think I dislike ships. Just because I don't ship them, doesn't necessarily mean I don't like them together, right. It just means they don't really click for me (as characters, even), but still doesn't mean I dislike them. I just don't make them my babies, you know?

I guess I'll go for the cop out answer and say Jack x Juliet (?). I don't think anyone likes that and the show kind of hinted at it for a hot second and.... it just doesn't make any sense for me.

Mr. Ben Linus. Definitely not one of my favorites. I want to smack the man half the time and I find him a little annoying. BUUUUUUUUT he is one of the most well written characters on the show and he is a character that stays true to himself the entire time and I really like his story and his redemption arc.

Since you were talking about games, I know you're also a Dai Gyakuten Saiban/Great Ace Attorney fan (so am I! I followed you originally because you're into both it and BSD hehe), and I'm curious to know your thoughts on it! 💖 Who are your favorite characters/relationships/cases/parts? (My fave character is Benedict/Graydon. Yes I have a tendency to become obsessed with minor characters no one else cares about, oops) Did you play it with the Chronicles version (I assume so, like most people did) or are you an og who followed along with the fan translation like I did? One of the best/funniest parts of getting into that duology was coming across Souseki and being like "if I had a nickel for every time I've encountered a piece of media that had an anime version of real-life author Natsume Souseki, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot but it's weird that it happened twice" lmao 😭

Since they're two of my favorite media, sometimes I try to imagine how a BSD/DGS crossover would work, and which characters would get along, though granted the only things they really have in common are detective work/mysteries, an old-fashioned aesthetic, and some similar themes lol... I just really love both of them a lot 🥹💖 Ryuunosuke and Atsushi being the exasperated straight men to the genius comedy duo that is Sholmes and Dazai? lmao (also Iris and Kyouka and their bunnies 🥹)

I need to play Hatoful Boyfriend. I've played lots of visual novels but that one is still on my to-play list (I don't know how seriously I'll be able to take it with bird sprites instead of actual human facial expressions, even though I fully trust that it is as good as its reputation says it is, but I'll just have to see for myself lmao)

Hsjfdnvskdf ok so I don't know what keeps happening to me with TGAA because I love it so much but I can't seem to write proper meta on it so. I just keep reiterating how much I like it lol. I got into it a bit later - I knew it existed almost since it came out in Japan but since I hadn't played original Ace Attorney, I avoided it for a long time. Then I saw a playthrough of the fan translation Case 1 and was hooked. By that point, I knew there was going to be a full English release so I waited for that because I wanted so badly to play it through! It's such a good game.

Oh, Graydon was interesting. That case was really fun, if it weren't for the fact that I figured out the key evidence really early and I kept trying to present it too soon aojsbsidhb. Graydon as a character was great because he's exactly as he appears but then there's just that bit more that fleshes him out and made him the slightest bit more sympathetic while not detracting from his actions. He was cool. (I actually had an idea for an after trial fic with him and the Skulkins but I don't think I'll ever get around to writing it :/)

Oh yeah I flipped out when I saw Natsume - my whole brain stopped (this was before my BSD obsession btw so this was very strange to me lol) and I shrieked out "NATSUME SOSEKI???" and my mom from the other room was just "???". yeah. And then he showed up again in BSD and I just said "...hi Natsume".

My favourites are the Mikotobas! Both Susato and Yuujin! They're such sweet people aghhhhh they deserve the world. But I really love all the main cast tbh. Ryuunosuke is such a dork but there's real personality to him, Sholmes is the perfect adaptation of that character, Gina should get all the puppies and friends she wants, and though I have some mixed feelings on him, I hope van Zieks gets a fucking break at some point (or just keep friendly tormenting him. I think it's good for him actually. unlearn your prejudices and relearn how to smile, you edgy vampire man.). Kazuma's arc was excellent and I wish so badly we could've gotten a true reunion scene with less of the baggage... actually, thinking about Kazuma for too long makes me ill. You essentially watch him break in the middle of court and it sucks. It sucks man.

And Iris was a standout character to me because her archetype could've so easily been bland or annoying but instead she's a realistic kid who happens to be a genius and she's kind and gets sad and angry and has depth and I would give her a big hug.

In terms of case specific characters, I liked Haori/Rei a lot, just because her dynamic with Susato was so silly and she's a cool gifted forensics student! She's awesome! I want to see her again!

However, my favourite was Olive. OLIVE. I adore her and I adore the twist with her. God she's so passive aggressive. Like damn. Have I mentioned that I adore her character? If Olive has only 1 fan then I am that fan. I wished we had gotten to consult with her again, even though that wouldn't have made much sense... just because she was interesting to me and I would've liked to have seen her character more fleshed out.

I'd really love to see a lot of these characters again. I've seen some people talking about Kazuma Asougi Investigations but tbh I'd really like to see Susato Mikotoba Investigations with Haori and Yuujin helping out! It'd be neat to see more Meiji Japan and Susato continue to grow as a character in her own right, since she started that journey in Chronicles. Oh well. I know that's a pipe dream but still.

I bet Kyouka would really find Iris's inventions fascinating and love to listen to how they work and stuff! I think they'd get along tbh. The idea of Sholmes and Dazai ever interacting terrifies me. Keep them away from each other. Please.

As for Hatoful, I am biased but I'd say it is well worth a playthrough. Given you like both DGS and BSD, I'd say you'll probably like it. My mom (who has also played it) and I were chatting about it recently and thinking that weirdly enough, BSD gives us a lot of the same vibes... like it's nowhere near identical, but that kind of desperate darkness where the characters are not who they appear to be at first and everyone has a different motive for doing what they do, but it's also not taking itself too seriously and it's still kinda silly... yeah. Same feel. It's better to go in with no expectations but I'm thinking of making a post later about why people should play that game... it's still one of my favourites of all time.

About the stock bird images: I know it's weird. I know it's weird that they're birds. But the best part of this game - to me, anyways - is that for as much as it is a gag, the story leans into it so heavily that you will quickly realize the main plot only makes logical sense if the main cast are birds and the player the only human. Like, it literally would not make sense otherwise. Please play it. It's wacky, it's zany, the characters have a good amount of depth, it's mildly traumatizing, it's one of the best things I've played and I feel it's become an inscrutable part of my identity. I am still obsessed with it many years later. That almost never happens to me. It's that good.
