hey! i'm listening to the first episode rn (very late ik) but about the court floors - i always pictured a futsal court floor (futsal's like a derivative of soccer) that's very hard and also usually pieced together rather than one piece and i having played on it i feel like exy would work well on it cause

How did you decide on your bias? my carat friend sent me the 24H music video to try to get me into seventeen bc i said i liked the song a lot. i would send her timestamps to ask a member's name during the mv. turns out all the timestamps i was sending was for mingyu 😂 but i was like okay tall and handsome sure whatever but then started watching gose and saw he is truly maximum himbo energy and so clumsy and so sweet and such a poor bullied middle child within svt (which is also what i loved so much about xiaojun at the time hahaha) and the rest was history !

10. Favorite music video? ....24H LOL but actually i loved the editing and surrealism it tickles my art brain hehehe 🥰 followed by change up (the aesthetic!!! the colors!!!), left & right (truly so funny omg rip scoups' rocket car </3), and rock with you :D

Pages: do you annotate your books? How do you annotate them?

Hmmm, it depends on the book! Typically I don’t annotate, however if I get a particularly dense or old book I do write some sticky notes to keep myself on track. I don’t like writing directly on the pages, but I don’t consider an annotated book “ruined,” either. It adds to the charm of used books!

for chapter three- i love the description of the foxhole court through neil's eyes, it's really clear he truly loves exy BUT also there's some weird things in this chapter. Nicky saying "[the foyer's] what we call it anyway. by 'we' i mean whatever clever smartass preceded us" is so funny because there's only been five incoming classes ?? nicky should know all of the previous foxes (assuming they didn't drop out before he started) and it's not that long standing of a tradition ? it's been there for max four years. also if the cousins only studied german cause they knew nicky could help them pass ... idk about their high school but my school's language program wasn't exactly churning out fluent speakers so they must have gone above and beyond which doesn't really fit with nicky's explanation (maybe they wanted to get closer to him ??) also i love the fact that wymack makes it clear that neil isn't a guest, he's a fox now, i think it really adds to the whole "giving neil a home" thing

Week 2 Mandarin Langblr Post 🇨🇳

你好！I finally figured out how to use the pinyin keyboard lol all of this time I thought I had to explicitly use the tone marks when I type but I realized you don’t have to 🙃

Over the last week I’ve done tons of review. I mainly use HelloChinese as my primary resource due to convenience and I build vocabulary lists and try to write my own sentences as a way to practice what I’ve learned.

What I’ve been doing on HelloChinese is reviewing without pinyin enabled so I can really try to recognize and pronounce the vocabulary and sentences without help. I love the usefulness of pinyin but my goal is to gradually recognize characters without the help of it over time.

I start each morning by reciting the numbers 0-10 in Chinese (both writing and saying the characters) and I was able to fully master the numbers 0-999.

I’ve learned about how to terms for family relatives, different food and drink items, measure words and a few verbs! I try to write a few sentences every day to get in the habit of speaking and writing in Chinese naturally.

I also learned about yuan (the unit for Chinese currency) as well as 块, the informal reference to currency and how to inquire about the price of items

Example:

四苹果多少钱 - “How much money are 4 apples?”

四苹果六块 - “4 apples are 6 yuan”

I have to remind myself that I’m only in the beginning of my learning journey

Example sentences:

Objective: Introduce yourself, where you are from, express what you like to eat and drink and describe how many relatives you have in your family.

你好！我叫Tae’lur. 我是美国人。我爱吃芒果和苹果。我喜欢喝菠萝果汁. 我有两个姐姐和一个哥哥.

Translation: Hello! My name is Tae’lur. I am American. I love to eat mangos and apples. I like to drink pineapple juice. I have two older sisters and one older brother.

I just read these sentences out loud without pinyin and my heart screamed lmfao so happy >.<

There’s so much to process and learn. I repeat lessons so I don’t feel like I’m moving too fast. I try to keep in mind that what’s important is retaining information, not just consuming a lot >.< I think I’m done for today.

Shout out to @exzakktly && @ofyoursilentreverie for the suggestions on songs and podcasts! I’ll start listening to them tomorrow so I can get in the habit of incorporating input in my study routine instead of just using my apps and writing characters. Also per @wwwee2347’s suggestion, I ordered a grid notebook once I hit my goal of memorizing the numbers. It’s almost like a mini reward to get new materials as I hit little goals. It’s a way to hold myself accountable.
