I’m not sure if you write wlw or nblw/gnlw or anything like that but hear me out

anyway I was thinking, imagine the (fem! Or gn!) mechanic reader (yes my genshin self insert is a mechanic and I’m delulu) with lyney or Furina, or any other characters you wanna add if you want (idk how this works). Where the characters keep breaking things on purpose just so that the reader can come over and fix it and so they get to see reader. The reader catches on and teases the character. My apologies for having to call you out here again, usually I'd just have Freminet take a look but he's currently busy"

"Seems to me like someone's intentionally sabotaging your heater...they even left the screwdriver inside of it." You turned to him with a sly smirk playing on your features, holding the screwdriver up to him so he could read Freminets name from it. The blush that followed was so adorable you couldn't help but tease him a little, "If you wanted me to spend time with you Lyney, you could have just asked~"

"I truly cannot thank you enough for coming to my rescue again. It seems every time you leave the Spina di Rosula has yet another problem to fix...of course it's not particularly a bad thing because I enjoy your company immensely." The beautiful blonde chuckled nervously, trying to get ahold of herself before she ended up confessing her feelings to you, she was honestly shocked she hadn't yet..

"I'm always here whenever you need me Navia, it's definitely not a bad thing for me. I get to hang out with a goregous woman and get VIP treatment from the Spina."

"You're always welcome to anything here at-...I'm sorry did you just call me goregous?"

"Well...I figured since you're always bringing me here to fix things you've clearly sabotaged, it's only fair a make a little advancement myself.~"

“oh my, y/n, you really do have expensive taste.” navia grins at you from across the table. “did you win the lottery, or something?”

you huff. “no, i found them on my table.” the second you open the lid of the (previously) beautifully decorated tin box, the sweet fragrance of macarons wafts into your nostrils— you almost miss the way your friend’s jaw drops as she openly gapes at the treats. 

“what?” 

“you… er, well, do you know what those are?” navia gleefully looks between you and the macarons.

there’s a soft clink as lynette sets down her teacup. “5 bucks they have no clue,” she bets, earning a soft “tsk” from you and a smug navia crossing her arms as she leans back in her chair. 

“of course i do! they’re macarons! hey–” you protest, as navia dissolves into giggles and lynette sighs, “hey– listen, listen, i may have flunked midterms but that doesn’t mean i—stop laughing!—that doesn’t mean i don’t know a sweet treat when i see one, okay!”

lynette leans forward, an odd glint in her eyes. “these aren’t your ordinary macarons, you know. there’s only one bakery that sells them like this, and people queue for hours just so they can get their hands on one of these– they only sell eleven boxes each day, mind you. it’s like you’re saying your louis vuitton is just some random bag you picked off the streets. a single box can quite literally cost you the skin of your a–”

you cut her off. “i think we know what you mean, just take some if you wanna try ‘em, okay?” 

“still, who’d gift you something so expensive?” navia muses, chewing on the lemon macaron she’d nicked while you weren’t looking. 

“probably the same mystery guy who gave me that plushie bouquet the other day, and then those chocolates from yesterday, and also probably that box of pâte de fruits…” you hum in thought, utterly oblivious to your friends’ astounded gazes.

“...y/n, i think you might have a secret admirer.” 

“wha– hey, wait! what was with that tone when you said ‘who’d give me something that pricey’? you tryna say i’m not worth those?!?”

laughter echoes across the empty cafeteria as you lunge at navia and screech something about wanting her to return the macaron. none of you notice the pair of periwinkle eyes fixed on your figure from afar.

“ooooh, does someone have a secret admirer~?” navia peeks over your shoulder at the white envelope lying innocently on your desk. “y’know,” she continues, unfazed by your side-eye, “if it’s the same guy that got you those macarons, maybe you should consider getting–”

“shut up,” you grumble, feeling your ears heat up, “i don’t even know who gave me all these.” 

“do people not normally sign their names somewhere?”

“just the initials.” you unfold the enclosed paper, pointing to the very bottom, where the letters LS were printed. “who’s that supposed to be? lonely spirit?”

you don’t see a certain someone’s eyes dim when you don’t bother reading the letter and shove the envelope into your bag.

13 february. 7 days since you started receiving letters. 7 days since you got your first plushie bouquet (how the sender knew your favourite blooms and even your favourite character was a mystery you had yet to solve). and 1 day before valentine’s. 

the letter you got today was way simpler than the flowery words that filled the pages from before:

3 boxes, 8 letters. think you’ll be able to figure it out, ma chérie? that’s the key to your last gift.

“the way each letter starts?” lynette shrugs, “no idea. probably something like the first letter of the first word.”

“lynette,” you begin, “you’re a genius!”

one problem, though. you only received 5 letters. oh, well, didn’t hurt to try, right?

“let’s see…” you lay out the letters on the table, trying hard to ignore the contents that made you blush so furiously in the safety of your bedroom. “u, l, v, o, i, e…” you mutter, before navia gives you a light shove.

“no way it’s taking you so long, isn’t it already so obvious?”

“???”

“rearrange the letters—where’s my pen— and what do you get?”

you stare mutely at the letters. “...i love u.” you read, before you’re hit with a realisation.

“wait– boxes are containers, and then words are like containers for letters– and then, and then… and then i love you makes up eight letters in three letters! i’m a genius!”

“if you’re such a genius, you should’ve noticed a certain someone staring at you.” lynette nods at a point behind you, “go get your man, y/n. i don’t wanna hear complaints about being single for valentine’s.”

you turn– and there stood lyney snezhevich, in all his glory, a bouquet in his hand. he offers you an apprehensive smile as he extends his arms for you to accept the flowers—your final gift— and averts his eyes. 

“seems you’ve managed to crack the code, ma chérie. now, then, if you hadn’t known from the letters… will you be my valentine?”

Too Scared to Let Go(To Lose You)

Characters; Lynette, Navia, Xiao, Scaramouche, Lyney, Kaeya, La Signora x gn Reader

Summary; they wont let go of you, no matter what. They can't protect you from harm when they aren't there, so they hold you close to ensure you're there. they've already lost so much.

Warnings; angst, maybe a little bit yandere,

Notes; i did the obvious like xiao, scara, signora and stuff but if i make a part two ill maybe put someone like barbara or nilou in, but that would just be them having intrusive thoughts... probably. will add diluc and venti there as well dont worry, love you

Lynette

She always thinks that you're going to die at some point, get kidnapped or just straight up leave, these thoughts come up once every week or so. But when your out and about or just working late, her thoughts run faster than ever. Of course she has lyney and the rest of the house, but she's just gotten so used to being with both lyney and you now that it doesnt quite feel the same. So her solution is often to hug you as tight as she can when sleeping, hoping you wont disappear in the morning.

And of course you try and help her as much as you possibly can, reassuring her that you wont leave and that youll find a way to get back to her no matter what happens when out and about, but that sometimes just doesnt cut it.

She doesnt cry often, but when she does its a lot, tears streaming down her face for an hour or two, and even longer if you, Lyney and Freminet aren't there with her.

Navia

She cant let go of you in the morning, it was always like that, but it had gotten so much worse after the loss of her two beloved bodyguards. She often mumbles in her sleep about you and how she wants you to stay. Something along the lines of:

“no… no, don’t go, stay… please!! Just stay with me!”

“please stay… stay with me… where did you go… no, come back, please…”’

“[name]… please stay with me… please… just stay…”

You have to wake her up when it seems like she’s panicking and try your best to comfort her, but sometimes she just doesn’t get any sleep because she wants to make sure you don’t disappear while she is asleep. She is of course the same shining Navia when around other people like the Traveler and Paimon, but everyone can see that she doesn’t want to let go of you at all, fearing you’ll vanish if you leave her line of sight for even just a second, its like you’re glued to her.

If people ever see you, they know for a fact that Navia is also there, no matter what. Oh, you want to go over and wish your friend a happy birthday, well she can carry a gift for them with her so you don’t have to. You wanted to cook something but is missing one singular ingredient, you can you go get it together, don’t worry she isn’t putting back anything for it (she totally is, and has multiple offers and such she should be taking a look at rn).

Xiao

He says he shouldn’t be near you all the time, but doesn’t let go when you make him give in to his desires. He’ll hurt you, and you know that, so why are you still here with him. Wait, no, he isn’t trying to make you go away, please don’t, ever. He just cares about you enough to not want you getting hurt because of his karmic debt, he loves you too much to let that happen. But the thought of you leaving him fills his mind more than the karmic debt at times, he dreads it, the fact that you’ll leave eventually, he doesn’t care if its by choice or fate, just don’t. please, please, please don’t leave, just stay with him, please.

He doesn’t want to let go, but feels he needs to, you tell him its fine yet he feels like it isn’t. it feels like he’s hurting you every second of being with you, yet he doesn’t try to let go, he doesn’t even give the thought a chance. you say you’re fine, yet he feels like you’re not. He

feels like hes hurting you, he’s hurting more because of it. But then why does it hurt more without you, why, oh why. What have you done to him, just what did you do that made him so addicted to you. Swear you’ll never leave him ever, and he will do the same, as long as you’re here with him he swears he wont hurt you, he’ll break the karma in half for you, he’ll do anything. Just don’t leave him, please don’t.

Scaramouche

Everyone would say he’s too cocky, confident, and mean. But that’s all because he doesn’t let them see the vulnerable side of him, the leftovers of Kunikusuhi, the side he only shows to you. He shows you they way he cries at the mere thought you could leave him one day, he sobs in your chest as you comfort him and let him focus and anything but the nightmares haunting his being. He wont ever be like that with anyone that isn’t you, he doesn’t give a shit about them they can do whatever, but you have to stay.

He doesn’t care about all the others as long as you don’t leave him too, he doesn’t care about anything other than you. So please, please don’t leave him, ever, he would watch the world burn over and over again as long as he has you.

If you ever told anyone that the 6th harbinger, scaramouche, cries at night just because you left to go get a glass of water, they would call you crazy, say he’s never cried in his life that you must have seen things. But you know its true, and he does too, even if he doesn’t like to admit it. He knows you wont go, you always say you wont, but he just cant let himself to believe you, not when he’s been lied to so many times. He worries too much about you and he knows that, but how could he not, he loves you, and will never let you leave him because you love him too, right?

Lyney

Although he may be the confident, charming and romantic magician Lyney everyday in public, when he finally lets go of the role at home he’s nowhere near that. He cries just because he wanted to see you and he finally did, he worries about not being able to save you someday. He’s a worrywart to say the least

If you were gone for too long, whether on a mission from father or anything else really, he would not be calm at all until you come back. he would only be rather calm after he got a letter from you or in one of his shows where he put too many layers of masks on to hide it. he wants to think that your ok, just as Lynette say you are, you're strong. but he still cant help but worry,and he ends up panicked and stressed, without sleep, too tired to think sbout anything else other than you. dont leave him, he wouldnt survive without you.

That's why you cant leave him. hell lose his mind, and destroy everything around him in the process. he cant let you leave, so please, please don't. his heart is already fragile, it beats only for you now, so don't leave. don't leave. don't... please... please don't, he cant handle that. so, please, don't leave him, ever. stay right here with him, forever.

Kaeya

He doesnt remember his birth parents, he hates them but a little bit, but mostly because they left him, he cant handle thinking about them. and it only made his pain worse when he lost the people he called his family once again, so he cant afford to lose anything else, not when he feels completely at home once again. you are his home now, his family, and his joy. so don't leave or he might lose his mind and start ruining himself from the inside and out.

He loves you, a lot, you're his reason to continue in life. so if he ever sees you leave he would cry, even if all you are doing is leaving his office after giving him his lunch, he would shed a tear at the sight. his heart is fragile ok? He can't bear to lose his life once again, not after his parents left, not after his adoptive family left too.

Don't go, stay, stay right here with him and everything will be fine. i will all be fine, you trust him after all, and he won't let anyone touch you, let alone hurt you. you're safe here with him, don't worry about them, worry about him. you've got him wrapped around your finger without even knowing, you could want a certain sweet from Inazuma and he'll get it as fast as possible. you can get anything you want, ok? The only condition is that you stay right here with him, and only him.

La Signora

She swore she wasn’t going to fall for anyone after her first lover died, so why did she fall for you, how did she fall for you. Honestly you don’t know and she doesn’t either, she doesn’t know how you were able to melt her ice cold heart back to normal, even if only around you and you only, if anyone else is around it freezes back quicker than lightning can strike. She thought she wasn’t able to love again after he died, but you proved her wrong, so you can’t leave too. She cant deal with the death of her lover once again, so don’t leave her, ever.

You hug her in the night as she cries a little, mad at you for leaving her in her dream, but still not mad at you, as her anger is mostly to the world for doing this to her. But don’t worry, she’ll fall asleep eventually as she always does, she does need her beauty sleep after all. But that doesn’t mean she’ll wake up and easily let go again or just get out of bed, she’s stubborn and want you all for herself a little longer. She makes you talk a little as you carefully brush her hair like she taught you to do, and she relaxes a bit when you tell her you love her while kissing her head.

As long as you promise you wont leave her, and keep that promise, she’ll love you forever, she cant bare to see you go out the door even if its just for groceries, someone else can do that don’t worry. Just come and relax with her in a bath, she can wash your hair and you can wash hers. She’ll take care of you like you take care of her, just don’t leave, please. If you ever left her alone for too long she would freak out, she does everything with you, baths, shopping, paperwork even, so she cant bear to be left alone for longer than 30 minutes or she’ll panic. So don’t leave her please, please, please don’t, she’ll even beg for you to not leave her, just stay here with her.

The prophecy had come to a pass in Fontaine and people were allowed to live freely and without fear now. You were on your way to the Court of Fontaine to start your daily duty as a Garde when a familiar sweet voice called out to you.

"Oh, Y/n!! There you are!" You knew who it was all too well- Navia, your best friend.

"Navia? You are up early to—"

"Hey, listen to me! Can you accompany me to an interview later today?!" Navia interrupted as she beamed in a joyful tone and affectionately held your arm.

"W-Woah, what sort of interview?"

"Ah, Charlotte wants to interview me after all the recent events with the prophecy and my father's case, you know? I just thought of asking you to come along and perhaps you can also put in a word or two?"

You blushed feeling her so close to you, your arm pressed into her chest as she leaned on you and looked at you with puppy eyes.

"You just have to go to The Steambird, right? Do you really need me to accompany you?"

"Oh, come on, don't be shy! I'll tell her to not take photos of you, you can just stand nearby and I promise I'll be done quickly~"

You averted your gaze and struggled to reply, you weren't against going but you also had your own duties to do. Navia sensed your discomfort and felt dejected then leaned away from you.

".....Unless, I'm interrupting your work. Haha, sorry, I got a bit carried away with my own needs. But I would love for you to come."

Ah, there it was. That look and that smile that always made you agree to her no matter what. You let out a sigh then nodded, "It's fine, I'll have someone cover my shift. When do we leave?"

Navia's eyes widened in excitement and she lunged at you in an embrace, "You are the best, Y/n! Thank you so much!!"

You blushed more as she giggled and continued embracing you, you slowly wrapped your arms around her and patted her back.

"Yes yes, enough of that. Tell me the time we leave, I'll come to pick you up."

"Ah! It's at 11 am, you can meet me at 10:30 outside the base~"

You agreed with a nod and she giggled further, "Hehe, thank you, partner!~"

Then she dashed away as quickly as she came. Navia was always like that, but you found her recent behaviour slightly strange. This wasn't the first time in the past few days that she came up to you this way and clung on with some excuse, even inviting you for lunch or dinner during or after your shifts. You weren't blind to notice the absence of her usual 2 guards, Melus and Silver, then after a bit of digging you found out they died recently.... Was Navia trying to find comfort in you?

You reached outside her base at 10:30 as decided and she came out within a few seconds, all dressed up in her beautiful attire and carrying her gunbrella. She was quick to interlace your fingers with hers and pulled you towards The Steambird HQ, clearly excited for the interview but you wondered if she was masking her sadness all this time by acting this way. Charlotte was already waiting and immediately escorted you to her office and started interviewing Navia while you stood outside and waited.

"I must admit though, Navia is really suited for these things.... She shines so brightly and her smile is so contagious, to think that she cried back when all those things happened.... I should have been there for her."

You looked down and remembered Navia's state from 3 years ago when her father died and continued to be falsely accused, tarnishing her name and reputation. You helped her investigate as much as possible, even using your position in the Gardes to gather sensitive information but nothing ever worked until recently when the truth finally came out and she felt relieved. Yet, the happiness was short lived as she lost her 2 other close companions soon after.

"Thank you, Charlotte! Hey hey, I brought Y/n with me, do you want to ask something from her?~" Navia mused as she stood up and proceeded to come out with Charlotte, ready to head to the photograph studio.

"Ah— n-no, I can't answer anything so it's better you don't try." you refuted making Navia giggle and Charlotte decided to not pursue you either. You watched their photo session carry on and waited outside when suddenly Navia called you in and held your arm closely again.

"Hey, take one photo with me, Y/n! I promise, just one is enough and it won't be published anywhere! It's... just for our memories!"

You were against the proposition but if it would make Navia happy then you would accept. As promised, Charlotte only took one perfect little picture and immediately gave 1 copy to each of you then you bid farewell to her and came out.

"Want to have lunch together, Y/n? I'll book a table at Hotel Debord~"

"Ah, I'll have to return to my shift now. Some other day, perhaps."

"Is that so? Fine then, we'll have dinner together!~"

Navia dashed away before you could reply in any manner and all you could do was sigh and accept her. Later in evening, you were standing at your post when you saw Lyney and Lynette around the area and they soon came up to you to chatter away. Lynette was quiet the whole time but she was attentive to everything you said, her tail standing upright most of the time. You weren't sure what this indicated.

Around the same time, Navia approached the venue and saw you with both of them and she couldn't help but notice Lynette's upright tail and her lightly flushed expression, she immediately understood what Lynette was thinking and a surprising neediness came over her. She knew it was wrong but she wanted you all to herself. She ran up to you three and affectionately hugged you from the side while greeting them both, making Lynette slightly surprised at the physical contact but she gave no significant reaction. Lynette was too good in hiding her expressions, after all.

"N-Navia! You are already here? It's only evening!"

"Aww, Y/n, I was just wanting to see you and talk to you! And look I made you favorite macrons too!"

"Navia, I'm still on duty. I can't slack around this way...."

Lyney and Lynette soon left watching you two converse with each other, not wanting to interrupt. Navia released her hold around you and smirked to herself before stepping away a little, but still being quite close.

"Sorry, I don't mean to bother you. I really have made macrons so come and eat with me when you get free, okay?~"

"Navia, you.... Why are you doing all this?"

"Hm? What do you mean, Y/n?"

You sighed, "Look, it's no use pretending otherwise. I have noticed it a lot by now. You are acting..... different, strange even. Is there something you are trying to hide?"

Navia looked at you wide-eyed then forced a smile and averted her gaze, "What are you talking about, Y/n? I'm Spina di Rosula's boss, I have many things to do!~"

"That's not what I meant. Tell me...." you paused then cupped her face from one side, "....What is on your mind? Are you upset about something? Sad even?"

Navia was further shocked and struggled to reply then you continued, "Is it about.... Melus and Silver?"

Ah, seems you hit right on spot. Navia's eyes squinted and gave a bitter smile, "Nothing escapes you, Y/n. It's pathetic, isn't it? I know they both died honorably and I would forever cherish them in my heart but.... but they became like family to me after my father died."

You knew something was up with her. You looked around then hastily pulled her away into an empty ally then gently embraced her, catching her off-guard.

"It's not pathetic, I understand, Navia. You miss them, there's nothing wrong with that. And I'm sorry I haven't been a great friend during this time, I should have done more...."

"N-No, you are wrong, Y/n! I know you care and you do enough already. It's just I....I get lonely when I'm away from you, and I get this strange feeling of envy seeing you with others....."

"....Is that what happened earlier with Lyney and Lynette?"

Navia slowly nodded, "You are really dense, Y/n. But yes, that's what it was. I....I don't want to lose you too, you are the only one I have no aside from Spina di Rosula!"

Navia tightened her embrace and started sobbing on your shoulder, burying her face in your neck and you simply held her the whole time to let her pour her heart out. You decided it was time for you to act on your feelings.

"Listen, Navia.... I don't know if this is what you want to hear right now but I'll say it. I will always be there for you and support you, I will be there whenever you need someone, whenever you feel sad and want to let it out to someone. Whatever it is, I'll always be there. Because.... I love you, Navia. Not as a friend but more.... Would you like us to date....?"

Your face was red saying all that and Navia couldn't believe her ears, she let out a small gasp before softly chuckling and embracing you again.

Patiently waiting for your thoughts on Fontaine’s new archon quest 🫡

oh man. i do have some thoughts to share.

(warning for spoilers to those who haven't played through the latest archon quest)!

OKAY, so — overall? i enjoyed it. the fortress of meropide section felt a little tedious at times, i'm begging mihoyo to abandon those awful 'stealth' 'gameplay' sections. aside from that though, i was always interested enough to keep moving ahead. i especially like how they wrote navia. the story of her and her father got me emotionally invested in her as a character, i actually teared up at one point.

i was glad they avoided their infamous 'introduce a character and have them betray you' shtick. idk if that was a quota they had to reach before and that's why they did it so often, but in any case, it made for a refreshing change. the reveal of fontaine's history, the serial disappearances, focalors and furina; there were lots of intriguing story beats. furina's story might somehow be one of the saddest in genshin yet?? the execution of the reveal and the final conversation between focalors and neuvillette packed a strong emotional punch.

onto my gripes...

childe. why. why'd they do my man like that. the buildup was so interesting! the cutscene where he helps neuvillette subdue the space whale had me frothing at the mouth. him in his foul legacy armor ... his leitmotif playing... him growling and grunting.... oh, how happy i was, naïve thing that i am. i was a bit confused how they dedicated a total of three seconds to traveler and the floating fiend going 'oh wow there's childe ig.' like ??? at this point in the story, i thought they were sorta buddies??

the space whale's execution confused me. i expected it to be deeply tied to fontaine's past, or at the very least give some abyss bread crumbs, but it just kinda flopped around and stuff. the fight was cool, don't get me wrong. but the whole 'yeah this whale is some dude's pet lol' bit just felt odd. i get that they want to prove the Big Important Name Fella is suuuper important and suuuper strong but c'mon. at least make the space whale a creation that ran rampant or something.

i could've forgiven the space whale shenanigans if we got a nice conversation with childe at the end. how did he feel in the abyss? was he fighting the whale to keep the people of fontaine safe, out of bloodlust, or something in between? what was it like seeing skirk again? how much time felt like it passed when he was in whale abyss prison? does his vision resonate with him properly again?

instead, we just get a few throwaway lines that he's back in snezhnaya healing up. did they run out of budget to book his VA?? i get they have to be selective with lore drops, but there are so many ways around that.

my last major gripe is how they went about furina's character quest. maybe i'm just an oversensitive weenie (i definitely am), but the traveler and flying creature's interactions with furina... i was physically grimacing. how did they seriously think it was a good idea to ask the person who has been tormented by acting for 500 years to give the stage another shot? imo, it would've been fine if they tried that, furina rejected them, and everything played out about the same. but those bits where traveler + the imp kept pressuring furina felt so weeeeeeird. i genuinely didn't want to click the dialogue options. if this was framed differently, that would've also been fine, but it's kinda a 'haha :3 epic paimon says teehee te nandayo reddit gold' light.

tl;dr i liked the overall experience but someone needs to delete paimon from the game + treat their characters as more than a punchline.

Bro Furina/Focalors is the funniest archon yet. I’m sorry Venti she’s taken your throne

I like that they had Childe talk about his abyss experience out loud, so now even people who do not have Childe and don’t know his story somehow at this point know what’s fucking wrong with him

I’d like to state that I am a Childe main and stan so all criticism of him is done lovingly

I understand that Neuvillette is literally not human (likely the Hydro Vishap Soverign?) but he is sooooo autistic coded hehe *twirls hair around fingers*

Either way I am pleased with his character

I was really worried I was going to find a lot of the characters annoying, but I was pleasantly surprised. Lyney is actually pretty good, and Navia wasn’t annoying at all (she was the one I was most worried about). Furina is annoying, but she’s more intentionally written to be so I don’t mind. I liked how her voice actress gave her a very specific intonation pattern!

This quest was probably the same level of darkness we’ve come to expect? Kinda weird in the specific artstyle of the game-I would expect a lot grittier style art wise to match with the story, but Genshin is gacha first and foremost. gotta be pretty

And by darkness I mean. Archon ripping away hopes and dreams from her people. People locking up their Archon to keep her from stopping them harvesting dreams to make a new Archon. Whatever the fuck is going on in the Traveler/Dainsleif quest line. I think murder and serial murder is kinda tame in comparison?

Still liked the court scenes though.

The npcs were fucking annoying. Intentionally, clearly, but if I was really the Traveler I would’ve started yelling about how the peanut gallery doesn’t talk in court proceedings.

The Melusines are adorable.

The end of Marcel/Vacher’s case was *chefs kiss* beautiful. I’m glad those girls got their justice.

Also, I looked up “Vacher” at the beginning of the quest line cause I was like “who/what the fuck is a Vacher”. Genshin has pretty specific naming rules so

Vacher was a prolific French Serial Killer. it was foreshadowing.

I am incredibly intrigued by the Oratrice. what is goin ON with that thing.

Honestly. thinking back on it (am mega late yes) even though i like. ultimately enjoyed going thru fontaine AQ as an experience in terms of its emotional core and payoff with characters like navia neuvillette n furina having very strong writing and characterization i do think the overall AQ lore and worldbuilding is probably the messiest in the entire game and feels like all of its opportunities and potential was underutilized the most and thats just. Unfortunate

like yes its inazuma thats the most infamous for how shitty and rushed its execution was (and rightly so) and yes it Also had its share of issues with nothingburgers like the whole statue thing going nowhere or how shoddily constructed the entire it-was-all-the-fatui deal was

but i still think it has a stronger ground to stand on like. all aspects of the story if just slightly differently written and centered around better in-lore reasoning and logic. Are internally consistent with the world ya know. and would have produced a good story. like it could be fixed easily. no need for me to go Full Rewrite here but like just to make a point:

a shut-in deity paranoid and trauma-stricken is ignorant to her peoples wishes and enacts an eternal rule that stifles their hopes and dreams. discontentment in the nation (NOT just the vision holders it shouldve been ALL inazumans divided on this i s2g) has been on the rise but only outside forces stoking the flames push it into overdrive as they seek to exploit the unrest to get the gnosis. couldve brought the whole "peoples faith powers the archon" if they wanted to pop off bc then the fatui by sparking the civil war are Directly weakening eis power like Thats solid! less ei was innocent and only the fatui led to the bad stuff more. ei is flawed makes shit choices and leaves an opening for their operations etc etc etc.

foreshadow signoras past and distrust of the gods in like a tense encounter or two early on (ritou maybe?) where she hints at a deeper reason behind her actions. no need to trauma dump just have her like idk mock us for seeking the archons for "help" in finding our sibling slash truth of the world and coincidentally use wording that directly alludes to what we already heard from dainsleif earlier abt the cataclysm and archons sus so its like an Oh Shit. she can namedrop or allude to venti to imply its personal or sth to further recontextualize her actions in mondstadt as well.

and so on. like then fixing the rebellion (ppl join for other reasons than just the VHD so its a more common cause etc maybe some ppl dont care abt the decrees as much but the drafting of civilians into the ever expanding war effort goes too far) and stuff like that. inazuma had the ingredients for a consistent good story they just fumbled it completely

whereas fontaine tells like. a much stronger and more hype emotional core journey for its focal points as u go thru them but also it just. Genuinely falls apart if you poke at the setting and world for a bit too long its really just swiss cheese and that sucks

like as much as i Do love the narwhal in a very normal and sane way i still think story wise it absolutely goes into the signora tier of mishandled AQ boss fights except Even worse than hers bc. signora Fits inazuma even if she was handled poorly. but with the narwhal (and by extension childes entire presence as happy as i was to see him at all) its just... kinda random? and got pretty much brushed aside even during the AQ like we get the opera hall cutscene and then theres a THIRTY MINUTE cutscene with focalors before the actual fight happens like way to just. eliminate any urgency from the situation bruh. and then at the end both the narwhal and childe kinda just got plot deviced into hyping up skirk and surtalogis name drop. which rly fucking sucks. 99.7% of fandom never reads the AQ fight boss drop to consider the narwhals a sentient thinking feeling entity and not just a dumb big pet bc skirk called it that etc.

childe in general i dont think im necessarily like. as negative on the way he was handled as some ppl are (tho the general sentiments are 100% shared) but its still very much like. a disappointment w his lack of presence and voiced lines and in terms of how a lot of the intrigue set up in the AQ Especially the oratrice judgement just got shrugged off all "who knows 🤷‍♀️" like Are You Serious. and also p much using him as a neuvi hype device like . I saw it i knew ppl were going to be insufferable abt it & was right

i also saw a comment talking abt how childe Being the purple guy inside the narwhal just corrupted or sth wouldve given him a more heightened presence during the boss fight and while im a hater of that concept for other reasons (mostly the. narwhal must have malicious designs for ajax thing) i cant disagree with that take in terms of the story aspect. like if the narwhal ate him when he fell back in (which i kinda? assume mustve happened lmao like where did he Go 😭😭) it Wouldve been a much greater moment for sth like that to be there.

But bc i personally dont like the Brainwashed Puppet Angle i think how id have done it is just. sure make the purple guy more reminiscent of ajax n his fight style maybe even FL . But. feature an actual fucking cutscene in the stomach of us realizing its Not Him. but instead its the Narwhal Emulating Him as a spectral summon thingy. bc it ate his dumb unconscious ass for safekeeping or w/e and is now copying his homework of "use a manifestation of the other as a combat technique" (v romantic btw. soulmates real). like DUDE we had childes earlier AQ appearance Actively Bring Up this EXACT thing! he uses a hydro construct mimicking the narwhal as a combat technique bc of how their encounter rewired his brain chemistry. and now the narwhal needs to improv a more humanoid angle to combat in its stomach after it ate us. so like pov ur the narwhal whats the closest point of reference to draw from at that moment?

Oh Right. the guy ur been fighting for 40+ days . Your guy (derogatory) 💀 like they have a telepathic link who knows if it could just straight up cross reference Our combat moves from the flashes its getting from childes memories of seeing us in action and utilizing that.

like it wouldve been so sick and still left the nature of their connection relatively open ended. like it ate him skirk would be separating them at the end and maybe comment on it a bit and his whereabouts during the entire thing wouldve been Way Less confusing. The knight dude being a mimic of ajax' battle technique would thematically connect to the golden house fight and his hydro whale technique and its just. the current electro dude is just so Huh. like its a good jumpscare and i love the OST obviously but it getting No Lore NOR cutscene sucks so bad

(And like if they wanted the combat design to be so that theres no cutscene interrupting the transition between being swallowed and entering the stomach phase just make it an AQ exclusive one. and if we cant have traveler talk and logistics of bringing paimon/neuvi to make the shocked observation of "is that.... him? no... its just an imitation???" or w/e . Just have us FLASH BACK to childes own fucking dialogue as the phantom him is summoned to face us where he mentions 1) traces of the narwhal on him and 2) the basis behind his hydro summon technique. so traveler can have a silent !!!!!! Realization that he got ate or whatever and now his narwhal is stealing his ideas jsjskdksirigkf)

Anyway i swear this wasnt just abt those two im so sorry . but like yeah its just a fucking shame and also the narwhal being just like . Means to an End in the prophecy feels kinda meh but like i dont have a solid idea on how that would even rly be fixed but yeah. underutilized my both beloveds

Back to fontaine general stuff tho i kinda do think that . hoyo almost missed the trees for the forest w it all if u will excuse the mid metaphor . like they told a very strong emotional story w neuvi and furina and navia But it came at the cost of a highly illogical lore and worldbuilding and its just An Issue if u dwell on it even a little bit and its rly a shame

like they were going for this justice theme of maybe AI justicebot is not The Way (TM) and people viewing court as a spectacle rather than a show of justice but then went never fucking where with it in terms of Maybe This Needs Changing . they made that entire champion duelists a thing despite it being So fucking stupid fundamentally like it just relies on nobody with enough raw power to just solo any duelist ever getting into the ring

(no credit for this tho this was a comment thread i ran into on leaks sub. there was also a point made abt how childe dueling and winning against clorinde when hes accused wouldve been such a great moment of like both showcasing clorindes role and linking to their earlier sparring and holding back thing and also that maybe the system sucks when this is possible and while i get the story needed him in jail so he can reunite w his narwhal . im now mad this didnt happen. give him a W in combat hoyo.)

like theres this entire thing about flawed justice in fontaine that is present in the 4.0 story but then it just...... Disappears. Bc AI justicebot was anti celestia archon deleter all along and it finished its job so its no longer a fundamental ethical issue for the legal system and fontaines ppl to grapple with and confront shit like childes sentencing. And furina wanted dramatic trials bc of what she was told by focalors but since she retires its now just neuvillette whos super fair so everything is fixed .

im not as big of a hater of act III as some but like thinking abt these things further makes me like it less and less like Yes they wanted this meropide vs regular fontaine dichotomy explored and all but thinking of it is just. i wonder how worthwhile the opportunity cost was in there (i have no correct answer btw)

bc . if you keep the childe jailed bc justice AI bot. they shouldve shown the people responding to it . bc that entire highly controversial judgement is Literally accompanied by the solving of the serial disappearances case AFTER multiple ""culprits"" had already been imprisoned for it which i actually forgot (thanks same reddit comment for reminding me) like Whats with those people then????? and just. Everything to do with the entire case including childes deal shouldve been a much bigger social upheaval anyway like ik stuff like furinas SQ shows ppl personally affected in the aftermath but i mean in bigger scale.

meropides existence in general was also just weird. again i enjoyed the character writing it enabled for wrio and the HotH trio and despite disliking childe just being MIA i do like how the storytelling around his escape expands on his social intelligence and street smarts still. but as an entity the fortress is just sorta there as a system that Obviously shouldnt be Like this when its literally the other side of the coin to fontaines Already dubious legal system but then they went the whole. its a gathering place for exiles (still a prison)!! a home for those alienated by the surface world after so long (so why KEEP them in there that long)!!!! protectors of egerias secret (okay Sure. but whats the need post prophecy then)!!!! And its like. okay im not about to uhh. overstep my understanding of the risk a chinese company limited by often nebulous and inconsistent censorship would take if they went for a full on prison reform/abolishing angle w the writing like i dont think that was in the cards. But it still means meropide as a system just falls apart if u think abt its existence critically At All and its hard to say whether fontaines writing omitting sth like it entirely wouldve ultimately been better for the overall focus of the story anyway. but yeah

and its just. im sure theres even more that i havent even noted here (logistics of nobody drowning in the flood & rest of teyvat being unaffected etc etc) bc this is just a rant ramble not a coherent analysis but my point in all of this is that the abundance of issues like these just kinda add up so that by the end its kinda like fontaines simultaneously the AQ that id say has the highest highs in terms of its best moments and strongest emotional beats and how much heart it carries . Like im not taking that away from it.

but its also the AQ with like genuinely the messiest fucking groundwork in lore and larger worldbuilding implications whose aftermath leaves the most plot threads barely explored or just discarded altogether by the end and its just?? Such a weird mess like i very much enjoyed it despite the problems and for me it still overtakes sumeru in many aspects but i cant pretend those problems arent there . like consistency of writing and lore accounted for sumeru is still the best AQ

Oh hello! As someone who’s been gathering information from fan posts only and not the actual game (I think if I do play I’ll just play GI for the scenery and not the quests since it feels better than way. Something about burnout and wondering what kind of game actually intrigues me. Anyway)—

(Slight 4.0 spoilers…??? Mostly rambling about character design)

Fontaine sounds interesting. Well, I find it easier to let trailers/characters/quests sit for at least some time when it comes to new region and cast releases. Trying to see what makes me happy instead of just following the hype.

I feel kinda like a bard getting stories from other travelers, haha..

Seems Tartaglia got into another order-loving region’s trouble. I saw the cutscene where he starts to transform but Neuvillette interrupts him and he just kinda lies on the floor when the dust clears. Amazing

I wanna see Neuvillette cry even more. I wanna see him break down or something. It’s always fun to see a usually serious/stoic (?) character be vulnerable. Also Furina and Neuvillette’s dynamic seem interesting… It’s been compared to Hu Tao and Zhongli it seems? Blue/white vs red/black parallels…

Furina looks cute! I like the layers and shades of blue! Feel like she could use some longer pants. She’s got the💧 droplet shape all over her outfit and even in her eyes. Very nice motif. I love symbolic designs… Also I love how her eyelashes are stylized.

I’ve read that Focalors’ name in the English dub is pronounced closer to the French way of Foçalors (FOH-sa-lor) despite not having the “ç” (c cédille, or so a search tells me) in the official spelling. That’s like seeing “Français” be written as “Francais” (“Fran-KEH”) but still pronounced “Fran-SEH”, haha

Edit: Focalors’ name is from the Latin name Focalor from the Ars Goetia, so it would be pronounced with a /k/ in English after all. Though in the French version of the game it’s written as Foçalors which would make it with a /s/ in French.

Neuvillette seems to have a slight ⚖️ scale motif mixed with the French fleur-de-lis ⚜️ upside down… (Not visible in this visual but it’s the ends of his blue lapels.) Very cool detail for the Chief Justice of Fontaine. Probably had the same tailor as Dainsleif. Also I thought that he’s got similar motifs to Song of Broken Pines lmao. I like the feather in his hair.

Come to think of it before 4.0 I’ve always imagined Focalors to be a mature woman (Hydro Ningguang or something) and didn’t expect Furina and Neuvillette at all… No, actually, when his visual released, I thought it’d be really cool if Neuvillette was a woman (while having the exact same design as canon) who’s actually Focalors, haha. Handsome long-haired women in suits and fancy layers… hehe.

Since Neuvillette’s character intro card lists “??? - Hydro” initially I thought he was the actual archon working behind the scenes and Furina was like, a decoy archon at the front. From the 3.8 event I had the impression that optical illusion is a motif for Fontaine, haha. It would’ve been interesting if the God of Justice is using a decoy to deceive people, I felt. Something like an AU where Chief Justice Neuvillette is all about justice and law but has a soft spot for and tolerates Furina. And everyone thinks Furina is the Hydro Archon but actually she’s just an assistant (? Right hand woman?) and Neuvilette is the actual Hydro Archon— wait is that kinda like Arlecchino with Lyney & Lynette hahaha. Anyway—

Speaking of cool lady, Clorinde looks really handsome. The wispy hair, the sharp hat, the cold look— To me she feels like… I dunno, a combination of Furina and Neuvillette hahaha. Apparently she’s the body guard of Furina? I wonder how it’d be if Clorinde and Furina swapped clothes…

…Come to think of it, out of Furina, Clorinde, Arlecchino, Lynnette, Charlotte, and Navia, it’s only the last two that have their shoulders not covered by clothing, huh? Lynnette’s design with the black/white/teal colour scheme is refreshingly simple for a Genshin character… It’s nice.

TL;DR: apparently (one of) my type(s) of character design is just androgynous women in fancy long-sleeved jackets and long pants, a hat/other distinctive head-area decoration, with symbolic motifs and long ribbons/capes, black/navy and white base with bright blue and gold accents… Light/dark contrast between hair/face area and top-half clothing colour… (E.g. Furina with a white outfit, or dark-skinned Clorinde with a black/navy outfit wouldn’t look as distinctive to me.)

…That’s basically Eula isn’t it. Eula looks really pretty but I think she’d look better with long pants and not the belts/harnesses. Also, personally I feel the right side of her lapel and her cape doesn’t read very clearly. There’s too much going on near her upper torso (similar shapes to Kaeya). She’d look even better if her lapels are sleeker and the excessive details overall are toned down. Mmm, actually— Now that I’ve finally read her entire character story for the first time (I want to cry because of how the symbols tie into her story and personality well), I think it’d be nice if the glacier vs spindrift idea is more present in her outfit, with some dance motifs… A beautiful and proud blade that shimmers above the waves, twirling amidst the candles’ glow…

so that archon quest, huh. Would be absolutely thrilled to hear what u have to say about fontaine act V :] i love all your takes on furina & neuvillette & fontaine as a whole, and of course childe [pretty much an honorary fontanian with how he unintentionally got wrapped up in everything whoops]

Oh boy, I have so many thoughts. To start with some non-spoilerly stuff: I loved it so much. I'm not sure if I'll say it's my favorite Archon Quest yet (I think I would have to go through some of the older ones), but I think it's safe to say Fontaine overall as an arc is my favorite. Even its weakest part (the prison stuff, tbh it was a pacing issue) was still really solid and the ending, while not perfect, really landed. Genshin continued the trend from Sumeru of having the playable characters really take the stage and god there were some great standouts (Navia/Neuvi/Furina to name my favs, but I also loved my fatui and there really isn't anyone I've disliked). And well, the quest (and Furina's chara quest) made me cry like a baby, so that's a win.

Tbh, I think my biggest issue, wasn't even really an issue with the story but just a case of I had a very clear idea of what I wanted out of it (the woes of writing speculative fic pfft) and when it wasn't that I'm like "awww darn". Thats on me, and I genuinely really loved what we got, but it do be like that sometimes haha.

Eldritch abomination Furina I'll mourn u forever. I can't complain because Furina splitting herself in two to go fuck u to the heavens is such a boss ass move I can't haha. Okay, but I will say, even if I'm probably the only one, I do wish they brought some Remuria stuff up in the main quest. They had the perfect set up with Ajax being there with his Greek myth references and just ahhhh, one can hope they do something with it later. But yes, just know it's my silly headcanon that Focalors just lied about being an Oceanid to Neuvi and is one of King Remus's fucked up Primordial Sea experiments that maybe caused the Abyss rift at the fall of Remuria.

But yes, Furina, Furina, I'm crying. She really destroyed the girl failure accusations in the most glorious way possible. She literally didn't fail once (either of her), she plotted out a plan to trick the heavens, give back what was stolen, and save her people and she did it perfectly. As you're probably well aware, I'm a big fuck u Celestia gal, so it was just so satisfying to see her just obliterate the throne (even when I was crying haha). And honestly, super relevant to the state of the real world, but her giving back sovereignty to Neuvi in my mind is a very clear decolonization metaphor. Ages past descenders came to Teyvat, killed the dragons and created their own order, and now Focalors is returning that power back to said dragon (or well, the dragon's heir, it's a bit vague if Neuvi's literally the old dragon's soul reincarnated or just the body).

The entire scene between Neuvi and Focalors was great, though I will admit I have one issue with it (and even then I go back and forth on it haha). Neuvi in that scene doesn't have a big attachment to Focalors. What I mean is that ultimately Neuvi only ever knew Furina (which side note I'll get into this next, but I do view them as the same person, but still), and with Focalors' 'death' he's not technically losing anything, the person he's sad over will still be there. Like don't get me wrong, he's very empathetic and can be sad over this person who is dying for them, but I feel like it could have been even more heartbreaking if he had met Furina/Focalors before the split, or he had interacted with Focalors somehow in the past, and so in this moment he wasn't just watching Furina's sacrifice, but the sacrifice of someone he shares memories with. But that's me being picky haha and not really a critique on the writing.

But yes, Furina! Focalors! As I previewed before, I'm going to come out swinging with a possibly hot take. They are, and always were the same person. Yes, Focalors is the divinity, but as we see after Furina is allowed to rest her persona, Furina is also super mature and knowledgeable. In Neuvi's flashback quotes of Furina, it's her softly giving important advice about living with humanity, which is what Focalors was all about. And much like Furina, Focalors loves preforming, she loves humans, she gets all excited about Furina and her future, and is sad she won't get to experience it.

Not to remotely downplay Furina's suffering (because holy shit my poor girl), but Focalors too played her role. Unlike Furina who had Neuvillette and all her friends post this, Focalors was all alone in the Oratrice, waiting for the day she had to kill herself. Furina, has the promise of a future, despite all the suffering she endured to get there. She gets the reward of a happy life as a human surrounded by people who love her, and while it was touch a go for a bit, she was told one day her play would end. In contrast, while Focalors didn't have the same anxiety that Furina had, Focalors knew from the beginning she would never get to see her people saved. Technically she, like Furina, didn't even know if it would even happen. She put her faith in Neuvillette to follow through, and while she had the utmost faith in him, she could never know for certain. But much like her mirror Furina, Focalors weighed her suffering over the people of Fontaine's, and never once faltered. Furina was willing to possibly kill herself via primordial seawater in order to keep up her ruse, whose to say Focalors wasn't the same. Smiling at Neuvillette until the last moment because she couldn't risk him interfering, hiding away her anxieties and sorrow, so he wouldn't look so sad. Furina's performance ended, Focalors' never will.

Focalors was so certain she couldn't be human, but as we see from the Oceanids it was totally possible. And even more vitally, we see from the other Archons it's possible. They might fumble around a bit (some more than others, looking at u Ei), but they are learning and immersing themselves with their people. While not an Archon, it's the same with Neuvillette. Focalors should have had the same opportunities as Furina and the rest (mostly because she is Furina), but the world isn't kind, and that's why her sacrifice hurts.

If u can't tell I have a lot of feelings about Focalors/Furina and while I can appreciate a joke about Focalors giving Furina anxiety, I'm also like, they are literally the same person working together, she deserves the world (all of her).

But yes, I can go on and on about Furina, but for now I'll move onto our boy Childe. To get it out of the way, a little disappointed that we really got no answers about him. Poor guy didn't really have any lines. Also, not big on Skirk's design, mostly the outfit. Putting her next to Dain and uh, yeah (like don't get me wrong don't mind the color scheme and all, but could she not have gotten some kind of armor. Or look more like Foul Legacy or something idk).

But onto more happier notes, I'm so happy to see Childe finally getting to do well in a fight. I know it's a meme for him to get beaten up, but my dude is the Vanguard, let him win sometimes (he doesn't technically win here, but he was fighting an eldritch whale monster for ages and helped save Fontaine, I'm giving it to him). And Skirk, while her design is mostly less to be desired, I'm winning on guessing her hair and eye color haha. Also, while I'll always love my version, I'm liking her personality so far. Her yeeting Childe, while I admit took me out a bit (I thought she threw him farther into the Abyss and was like, "uh guys, yall worried about my poor boy here???" and then was a bit baffled at them saying he was fine) was so fucking funny. It's cool to learn "Foul Legacy" refers to a literal person, and I found the fact that Skirk's relationship with Foul is basically the same as her relationship with Childe very amusing. And it seems she's Khaenri'ahn, maybe? Also, I thought she was listing off her master's other names at first, so when she said Gold I got super hyped that I guessed correctly about the narwhal being Rhine's in my fic, but then they were like nope pfft. I'll take it as a win.

Sidenote, Alice and Rhine where are yoooouuuuuu.

Ultimately, while I enjoyed the Childe and Skirk stuff, it really just feels like a set-up for later stuff. Which isn't really a problem, but I was hoping we'd get something a bit more concrete. Like, I thought we were going to get answers about the "it" that Skirk saw in him, and it would have to do with the Narwhal, but now it seems those were mostly unrelated??? While I did find baby Ajax accidentally waking up a big world eating monster up kind of hilarious, it did feel a little incidental, if that makes any sense. Like, Fontaine's doom was an accident and not the result of anyone's choices. But that might just be a me thing. (and the quest needed more Arle, where was she??? my not really based on anything theory is that whenever we get Furina (or maybe Nevui's) 2nd character quest, Arle will be the boss fight. A reverse of the normal final Harb boss fight during the Archon quest)

Okay, because I really don't want to end on a downer (as I said uptop, I genuinely adored this quest haha), here are some minor spoilers from the Narzissenkreuz Ordo quest that have me by a chokehold.

And this one just makes me laugh. Whichever Ordo member wrote this, I vehemently disagree with u and am on Khaenri'ah's side with this one. I'd much rather have bread then some higher power nonsense. In my fic I tend to write Khaenri'ah more akin to a modern nation than a fantasy one, and its nice to see me vindicated pfft.

Other random notes, enjoyed that the Fatui weren't just cartoonishly evil in both the main and world quests. I like some nuance. I saw that Sandrone hint, that was fun. Though it makes me wonder when we'll get Columbina lore (especially because if the theory about Harbinger boss fight order based on the Constellation circle is true, she should be showing up soon. Though also I half think that order will break because if it doesn't, it means Sandrone will probably be the final Harb boss which is an odd choice.) As revealed on Furina's weapon, Egeria being around during Remuria raises so many questions around the timeline of events. Genshin pls tell me when the Archon war takes place in all this pls (if they tell us in some lore I haven't read yet, whoops). (also on egeria, I mourn my version but hey, she exists in my heart and in my fics pfft. I can't wait to write her in smfwtwd and venti fic, though she's getting a new name for confusion and better symbolsism)

the contrast between Neuvi and Furina after the quest is so funny and sad. Neuvi "Furina is the best, I want her to be happy". Furina, "Every hates me Neuvillette most of all, I can never face him again." And the other Archons, they are all like Furina, wow u are so cool (which just highlights Neuvi's utter disdain for them other than Nahida haha).

And most vitally, Furina and Venti should be best friends. Musically inclined performers who definitely aren't plotting to overthrow the heavens. I think they are neat (they also both have Latin names!).

thoughts on tha archon quest

prefacing this with a disclaimer that i watched a playthrough instead of actually playing the quest myself, meaning i missed a lot of in world interaction and open map exploration/lore/immersion that would have usually accompaned my overall impression of an archon quest. also i watched in eng dub which i kind of despise so that definitely affected my impressions of the cast

it was fun!

no huge complaints other than genshin typical pacing really dragging out certain segments but otherwise it was more or less successful at engaging me LOL if albeit kinda predictable or painful to sit through at times

i like her thing, idrk much abt the cultural/religious influences of fontaine beyond the obv french naming scheme but what w the whole mention of The Original Sin + a god manifesting themselves as flesh and blood to live amongst humanity + eventually executing themself in order to absolve all their people of that original sin. i think it could have stood to use more blatantly obvious christian iconography in the quest itself. like apples. or maybe they could have crucified her. just for funsies

that being said i think it would have been fun narratively if they hadnt made it so painfully obvious that furina was putting on an act/horrifically overcompensating for being the archon. like it would have been cool if her act was genuinely narratively convincing for at least the first half. the twist that she (technically) wasnt the archon/(more accurately Divine) would have hit harder but i can appreciate the angle they went for. idk i think its fun to see an archon that for once is kind of completely seemingly incompetent. a loss for feminism but a win for girlfailures all around the world

on one hand, i do recognize how the visions function as a narrative device for self actualization and realize its only a fitting way to conclude her arc, but on the other, as signs of acknowledgement from celestia marking an individual as eligible for godhood, it does feel very incongruent with furinas whole thing

on that notd i feel similarly abt wanderer LOL like okay ignore how logically they need a vision for gameplay mechanics like just narratively it doesnt cohere to me... sniffles...

small detail i like how the focalors/furina divide was foreshadowed by the fact that for every previous archon theyve been consistently only referred to as their "real"/chosen/"human"(in a sense) name by those closest to them, whereas all of their subjects would refer to them by archon name or otherwise (lord barbatos, morax, lesser lord kusanali, etc etc) but nobody has ever called the hydro archon focalors or any equivalent, it was only ever her human/chosen name lady furina

this quest had a Lot of Telling instead of Showing and i physically groaned each time they had to spell something out loud instead of just having the audience put together the (already incredibly obvious) narrative pieces but id say this is a writing problem w genshin as a whole and not exclusive to fontaine

i finished the fontaine archon quest last night but i needed to sleep on it n collect of all my thoughts before trying to articulate them bcos ! ! it just made me feel So much (⸝⸝o̴̶̷᷄ o̴̶̷̥᷅⸝⸝ ྀི) it is v easy to see how much love n care were put into creating this story and the characters within it as well ! 🫧

it was rather harsh in my opinion , how we had to set furina up the way we did in the archon quest n take her to court — i absolutely Hate tricking people like that so that bit was definitely not enjoyable for me at ALL to play through . to show someone kindness , a place of refuge and then rip it away from them is SO cruel , even if the grand outcome is for the better . ugh i hated that we had to do that so much >:C ! ! !

mmm the part of the quest that made me cry the Most was focalor's n neuvi's interaction . . i just ໒꒰ ྀི ′̥̥̥ ᵔ ‵̥̥̥ ꒱ྀིა ! ! ! ! sawblez ! !

oooh the ambient chorale music in the background rllie set the scene . . . it felt so holy , divine . even from just the music alone , i felt like i was being granted clemency , forgiveness — which was sooo perfect given the prophecy of fontaine ⭐️

the way focalors talked about furina . . " her strengths were of a kind only a human could possess, as were her shortcomings. but in my eyes, furina's humanity was what made her perfect. she was perfectly human in every way . . . the person i always wanted to be " need i say more ? ! her heart is so big :'c to find beauty in flaws , appreciate the ordinary and mundane . . especially as an archon ! a god ! ! someone so divine . . . waaa she's just so ! ! im squishing her .

anyway , now that furina is free from the shackles that have bound her for nearly half a millennium , i hope she eats allll the yummiest cake n sweet treats ever in the whole entire universeee ! laughs n smiles lots , loves freely :3 has companions like the traveler n neuvi to spill all her troubles to , finally be able to lean on them when she feel like she can't walk alone ! ! catch up on all the years she's missed leading her life how she wants to !

&& RAY CHASE ! ! ! eee he did such a magnificent job of voicing neuvillette — the despair , loss , confusion , guilt to his words was so Tangible n just aaaa . . ๐·°(৹˃̵﹏˂̵৹)°·๐ weeped into my pillow when focalors sacrificed herself n he started crying . . the animations for the cutscenes were also sooo amazing this patch ! the subtle pinch of his brows n his shaky shoulders . . . aaa neuvillette is such a tender soul :3

thinking about the aftermath , taking into consideration just how empathetic neuvi is , i wonder how the guilt will settle on his shoulders . . it hurts a lot to think about him living with that feeling for the rest of his years ૮꒰⑅ ˊ ᵔ ˋ ⑅ ꒱ა but i hope with his friends beside him , the pain will be more bearable , even if only a little bit !

now for some parts that made me smileee hehe c:

this scene at hotel debord with the melusine sedene was a bit bittersweet, but i very much appreciate her outlook on life :3 . . . " still , even if there'd be no cake tomorrow , that wouldn't keep me from having some today " — tomorrow is not guaranteed so you may as well live today ! ! this is how i lead my life , and it may seem rather naive n childish buttttt ! i dunno . i wouldn’t want to trouble my mind with the worries of tomorrow when i can indulge in the joys of today . . ya know ?

hi i did the fontaine archon quest. thoughts below cut

okay to start off with it was slow in the beginning (as per usual) but both furina and the magician twins immediately got me interested. i love dramatic people what can i say. i knew he was here but i was not expecting childe to show up so early in the quest? and on that note i would've liked to see him more but that's just a me thing. anyway the first trial was honestly pretty fun. only big issue with this bit is that the traveler is so apprehensive about lyney being a fatui member?? made me a lil mad that i couldn't be nice to him but w/e. honestly i kinda forgot navia was here near the end (i love her dearly!! to be clear!! she's just more prominent throughout pretty much every other quest so those instances overshadow her introduction) but i wish i could be nicer to her too. like yes maybe i do want to be her investigative partner what about it game.

second part... honestly i don't have much to say about it? it was very fun i'm always glad to work with navia!! the way everything came together at the end (and the way navia stalled the court) was so good although i do feel incredibly bad for navia. to be completely honest i lost it laughing when childe was pronounced guilty though he was so offended

third part. meropide huh. first off i was pronouncing every meropide-exclusive major character and the name of the place itself wrong in my head which made me a little bit frustrated but that is most definitely my own fault. (in case anyone's curious, meropide was pronounced mare-oh-pih-dee, wriothesley as re-oh-tess-lee, and sigewinne as sig-win in my brain. whoops) meropide itself was eh?? the story portions were actually interesting (and i could be nice to lyney which is always a win) but the fortress itself was confusing for me to navigate and most definitely very same-y after awhile. it felt kinda drawn-out if i had to describe it? but yeah nothing too remarkable for part 3 just lyney :) + the game did actually make me think wriothesley was going to be a villain so nice one there

i don't see why these two portions were split in-game but here's part 4. which also takes place almost entirely in meropide for some reason. i get why wriothesley had to get lyney going but did he really have to fake-kidnap his siblings for that. i missed furina. her whole deal with arlecchino is still very interesting to me.. i'm assuming the knave boss fight is a part of her story quest, so maybe i'll see more of that? that's it though neuvillette was cool near the end

And Part 5. ohhhh furina i am so so sorry. furinaaaa. FURINAAAA

she makes me lose my mind. she literally could not do anything to stop the impending crisis and you could TELL that weighed on her despite it literally not being her fault. even though focalors was at fault for furina's deal though i can't bring myself to even dislike her.. she had her own reasons, and especially with the thank-you note to furina at the end focalors seemed to have at least some remorse for what she put furina through. i hope furina and neuvillette have more interactions after the quest is over... you can tell how distraught he was after focalors told him about the Furina Situation i feel like their dynamic is really interesting. that entire section was worth going through meropide over.
