I guess the set photos with the actors actually like performing in them are just making me reason that season 5 is coming like...season 4 is old news. That already happened and there's more. It isn't some great show that got tragically cancelled and now I'm tasked with giving myself closure, it isn't some shitty queerbait with a terrible ending that I have to fix in my mind, it's just incomplete and it's going to be completed.

It's not done. And also, seeing those photos, it's starting to get into the image because it's been two years now of like "they look so young" in application to season 4. My brain is adjusting and starting to make little comments like "remember when Mike had long hair".

And it's all reworking because I just automatically envisioned everything in their same hair and costumes even though I knew they wouldn't be in those because what would I change it to? But now I have options and logic and it all makes sense and it's coming and season 4 is behind us and they were only 14. Remember when they were only 14? When they didn't know yet how it would all end up when they were older? How much deeper they'd fall in love? God, feels like just yesterday. But no. Time has passed. Mike cut his hair. Will turned invisible, apparently /s, El grew her hair back out. They're all different and they're all older and season 4 already happened.

And it's like I've been rewatching it and looping it in my brain. Because in an artistic way, these characters have souls that have been trapped in this loop of whatever their most recent content is every time I rewatch it. And they aren't resolved yet. But they like...came out of hibernation. And they're filming now and I saw Mike making facial expressions and now the last thing Mike did isn't stand on that hill. Which makes it all the past. And it's all already happened and they aren't stuck anymore. We don't know where they are but they aren't here

I just- I wasn't ready for an updated way to envision them and it's weird. I was still telling myself "[image of Mike] but like pretend he's older".

ok you’ve convinced me to watch bsd so where can I watch it? and do I need to read the comics? if so, in what order and where can I read them?

EEK OMG YAY! okay so one thing about me im a little student girlie #ihaventboughtmilkinaweek so i will always consume media the free way lmao. the site i read the bsd manga on is 'bsdmanga.com' which seems very legit but does also do pop ups a lot for me so just make sure you've got an adblock going. if you want to properly buy them though ive seen bsd being sold in almost every waterstones! as for the anime, the sub and dub were both free on crunchyroll AND funimation back when i first started watching it, but not anymore bc everything is awful. the main less-legit site i use for anime is 'animesuge' and that has it there :)

#animesuge has literally never let me down i swear by it but like i said im p sure it's not as official #so again just be sure you've got an adblock!#okay okay back to bsd SO there's 4 seasons (the 4th currently airing!) as well as a spin-off called bsd wan that's more silly/lighthearted #and also two films in the form of dead apple (my favourite anime film of all time) and the beast live action #that i havent watched yet bc my go-to piraters are LETTING ME DOWN #as for the manga it's a tad confusing at first glance so i'll give u a quick rundown bc i promise it's not as intimidating as it seems #like it's a GOOD things that bsd has sooooooo much content like even i havent consumed it all yet im not strong enough #so there's the main manga that's now on chapter 105.5 (a VERY good chapter)#but i started reading where the anime ended (a good halfway through) and havent felt any problem with that #so if u dont want to tackle the entire thing you could do that!#there's also a bunch of light novels that act as prequels and/or is just asagiri writing fanfiction for his own story lmao #like what was beast if not fanfiction come ON #so yeah those are very good also #there's a lot online about what order to watch/read it all in if that bothers you #but honestly you should be fine sticking to the main content (the anime and main manga) and if you like it you can branch out #i watched all the animated content first before i even touched the manga/novels and that worked well for me #i will say i personally found the anime really slow for a while so my rule with reccing bsd is to tell people to at least wait for chuuya #lmfao like once it gets going it GETS GOING and also he is the most character of any media EVER #so just give it a chance!#okay ill stop talking now <3 #bsd #ask

Got kinda bored watching Rebuild 3. They really Gainaxed it up with lots of robot fights. I know Evangelion is technically a mecha anime, but the appeal is very different from, say, Power Rangers. Every one of Evangelion's fights reveal something about the characters fighting. And it's not just cute little Aesops about caring about your friends; it's heart-wrenching, vulnerable stuff. Characters in Evangelion actually experience the horrors of war.

Rebuild 3, on the other hand, starts with a neat action sequence in low-Earth. We get to see what Asuka and the new girl in action. But the stakes and consequences aren't set up until the climax of the fight! Asuka gets in over her head but Shinji ex Machina saves her and their team gets what they want with no consequences. She doesn't even comment on it later.

The other really interesting thread in Evangelion is the mystery/conspiracy plots. Gendo does have a conspiracy up his sleeve, but he's apparently doing it almost solo (Fuyutsuki, Rei, and Kaoru are helping him out) in the abandoned shell of NERV HQ. So there's no double-crosses, no tense secrets or startling revelations. The mystery is just between the writers and the audience, and it grates even more because of how tight-lipped most of the characters are about everything else going on. Asuka lost an eye in the decade+ that passed between films*. Why? What happened? There's no answer because the writers think that mystery is more exciting than exposition. It's C3-PO's red arm all over again.

This is the curse of Gainaxing. The original series was really deliberate, even methodical, in how it set up actions and consequences, cause and effect, and meted out information. The plot affects the characters and the characters drive the plot. So when it got a little screwball towards the end with the insane supernatural stuff, I stuck with it because I cared about the characters. But it's easy to copy that tone and mood without understanding the storytelling skills that make it work.

Someone on MeFi tagged me in and asked me to chime in in my capacity as a rodent person, so here were my thoughts and observations:

First thought, looking at that video: that is no house mouse. Not only is the head wrong--too narrow at the back, eyes are a bit big--but that very clear countershading is not something you generally see on wild house mice. So what kind of mouse is it? If this was in the US, I would assume it was a Peromyscus (deer mouse) species, which often gleefully invade our homes, but do they have Peromyscus in Wales? In North America, this is relevant because deer mouse species often have very elaborated burrowing and pair bonding systems, and this looks like nesting behavior off the top of my head. What sort of mouse is this? The Woodland UK Trust suggests that this is probably a wood (or field) mouse: Apodemus sylvaticus. (There are glorious big photos there which can help you see what I mean.) Okay, I don't know that much about Apodemus spp. behavior, so what do we know about their nesting behavior? Well, I chased a couple of false leads, then circled back to find out what is notable about wood mice, which is that they are known to not only navigate by the use of landmarks, but to organize their environments to place small objects around their environments in order to make navigation and orienting themselves across their large territories more effectively! So this mouse is probably irritably putting things back in place as an aid to its own memory of where everything is and where it can most effectively pilfer snacks, nest locations, or other useful mouse items within its environment. That is, the mouse wants a tidy shed for exactly the same reasons a human might want a tidy shed: so it can find things it's looking for when it wants to! Wood mice, by the way, are human commensals and quite common in Europe and the British Isles, so this is in no way a refutation of the idea that this behavior might have influenced human folklore and ideas about house spirits or similar. Certainly wood mice, like any mouse, are unlikely to turn up a bowl of milk if there's one put out for it--although neither are house cats, which would certainly prey on them.

I also really want to know how it was filming that cause theyre in water a lot and like theres steam in the well but not really anywhere else and like i doubt that steam has anything to do with the real water and like its hard to keep water warm for long stretches of time and that prolly kinda sucked. Like imagine clocking in and you gotta be wet ur entire shift. And obvi theres ways to get around it but like at some point theyre like swimming. And aside from being an actor like being the director id be so stressed

#did a short film with all the girls in my class and our lead actress had to be in the watet all day and it was very warm out not too bad #but the second it got a little windy and a little colder i started stressing out cause we had to get all the shots we still needed #and i needed to make sure she was okay and not too cold or tired and she'd been in the water all day and it was getting dark #i quiet nearly started a fight with my camera op cause she wouldnt cooperate or listen to any of us #and was dragging her feet setting up #like our lead has been in the water for hours you get it in order so we can get this shot and she can put on warm clothes!#i cant imagine dealing with that and their actors being children
