“And that’s how Ajax proposed to me!”

You smiled, listening to Enid rant about her newfound engagement to her four year boyfriend, who she’s been pestering about proposing ever since they graduated, poor guy couldn’t catch a break. 

But they have finally taken a step forward in their relationship and caused Enid’s excitement to skyrocket, hence why she whisked you out of the house for a girls lunch with just you and her. The restaurant she chose was cute, with fairy lights draped across the ceiling and vines trailing down from above, it was cozy.

“So anyways, enough about me.” Enid said, setting her drink down after she took a sip, “What’s been going on with my OTP?”

“Nothing much, we have been pretty relaxed lately.” You replied, taking the small piece of chicken off of your fork and into your mouth.

“Sounds nice, I know Wednesday can be a…well…handful.”

You stifled a laugh, shaking your head with a smile after setting your utensil down. Enid wasn’t wrong, Wednesday was most definitely a handful, but a good one. She had her ups and downs that were…irritating…but you loved her and you understood that everyone can have bad days.

“We all go through rough patches, it’s natural.” You said, smoothing out your shirt, “Wednesday’s just happen to be more bloody and murderous.”

Enid suddenly coughed, raising an eyebrow and flicking her eyes behind you. You followed her gesture and turned your head to the right, meeting the gaze of a man around your age.

He was staring you down, his husky blue eyes piercing through yours as he smirked. His hand raised, fingers waggling in a teasing wave towards you. You gave a tight lipped smile in return, slowly turning back to Enid. 

“Weirdo.” You mumbled, balling up your napkin to place on your empty plate, “I’m gonna go pay, okay?”

Enid nodded, beginning to clean up the table from your lunch as you got up and walked to the front. The feeling of someone watching you washed over your body, making you feel exceedingly uncomfortable and vulnerable as you made your way to the register.

“Lunch?” The cashier asked, giving you a comforting smile.

“Yep, for two.” You replied, watching as the price rang up.

As you went to retrieve your card from your wallet, a hand suddenly shot out of nowhere to grab your wrist and stop you. Your head snapped to your left, looking upwards to see the guy from before handing his own card to the worker.

“I got it.” He said, his voice chillingly low.

He turned to you, winking playfully and biting his lip at you. You smiled and laughed awkwardly, carefully pulling your wrist out of his grip. Your wedding ring was clear as day on your finger, but he either didn’t see it or was ignoring it.

“Thanks, you didn’t have to do that.” You said, putting your wallet back in your purse.

“It’s fine, I always pay for pretty girls.” He quipped, his eyes slowly trailing from your face to down your body.

He was checking you out.

“Okayyyyyy, well I’m gonna get going, stuff to do.” You spoke, turning to go back to Enid.

“Wait hold on,” His hand took your wrist again, swinging your body back around to him, “I never caught your name.”

“Never threw it to you.” You challenged, now feeling extremely uncomfortable and disgruntled from this guy's advances.

“C'mon don’t be like that,” He said, pulling his phone out and handing it to you, “Put your number in?”

It was more of a suggestion than a question, but you were absolutely not going to do that. Forcefully yanking your hand from his, you backed up slightly, eyes glancing in search of the unseen Enid. Where she could have gone, you didn’t know, but it was definitely stressing you out.

“I’ll pass, have a nice day!” You grimaced before hurrying away to retrieve Enid and leave.

You exited the restaurant, looking around to see if she had left and was waiting for you outside, but the blue and pink streaked blonde was nowhere in sight. Who was visible was the man, making his way to the glass door of the building and to you.

“Dammit Enid.” You whispered before hurrying down the sidewalk at a fast pace.

Not many people were out, just a few couples hand-locked and some businessmen with their heads in their phones, none paying attention to you and the man closing distance on you.

Your hands fumbled to open your bag, pulling your phone out to call someone, anyone. You had a few messages from your dad, and a missed call from Enid, but your fingers immediately went for Wednesday’s contact.

You pressed the call button, putting the phone to your ear as it rang. Twice it went straight to voicemail, the third it rang for a few seconds before her automated message rang out. 

“This is Wednesday Friday Addams, if you are not my mother, father, brother, best friend, wife, or pet, please hang up or be prepared for decapitation….”

“Nes please..” You begged quietly, pressing the call button yet again, “Pick up!”

As the phone rang, you had the unsettling feeling of somebody becoming very close to you, and before you knew it, your back was pressed against a brick wall. His breath hit your nose when he leaned his face towards yours, the stench of beer coating your senses.

“You know, it was really disrespectful of you to just walk away.” He said lowly, “I asked for your number.”

You gulped, tears in your eyes as his grip on you tightened. His hands were sweaty and rough, itching on your skin while he closed himself in on your personal space. A small voice inside of you was screaming at you, scratching the back of your throat as it tried to tell you to fight back.

“It’s not that hard, just tell me what it is.” He sang softly into your ear, his hand traveling down from your shoulder towards your hip.

A sudden phone ring startled you both into a frozen position, your heads turning to look at your phone. Wednesday’s face was on the screen, the name ‘Nessy Boo🖤🗝️🐈‍⬛’ bold up above. The photo you used for her contact was you and her on your wedding day, her in her stunning black suit dress , and you in a gorgeously slim-fitted white dress. 

“Who is that bitch.” 

Bitch?

Bitch?!

Your emotions flared, your hand shooting forward to shove him in the chest. He stumbled backwards, his body in shock from the force you produced, and he ran into a light pole. The insult he used made you mad, incredibly furious as your eyes glowed a glorious green. 

“Bitch?” You asked softly, vines beginning to grow out of the ground as you twitched your fingers, “Is that what you said?”

He looked at you in apprehension, his eyes tearing away to glance at the sky’s darkening state. Clouds rolled overhead, the subtle crack of thunder and flash of lightning causing him to gulp fearfully.

“I suggest you leave,” You said, the wind starting to pick up, “Before you get hurt.”

He nodded, now completely sober and running tuck-tailed away from you. You watched him go, your breathing fast and heavy as your abilities slowly calmed down. Your shoulders slumped, your eyes closing weakly from the small use of your powers; the ones you rarely ever show.

Your phone rang again, startling you out of your zone-out. You picked it up from the ground, seeing that Wednesday was calling you for the fourth time. Immediately you answered, bringing the phone to her ear.

“Hey baby.” You murmured, turning to gaze at the still dark sky.

“I saw your calls, and the sudden weather change.” Wednesday’s voice sounded through the phone, soft and dull as she spoke to you, “What happened mi vida?”

You sniffled, now aware of the tears pooling in your eyes as you cried. 

“Some guy, he got too close, I got rid of him.” You replied, dusting your pants off before walking back in the direction of the restaurant.

“Some guy?! Are you okay? Do you need me to come get you?” 

Her concern was adorable to you, but she was at least 25 to 30 minutes away from you, meaning it would be pointless for her to come get you.

“No need, I’m gonna find Enid and get an uber.”

She hummed in disapproval, not believing your fib for one second.

“I’ll be there in 15.” Then she hung up.

You sighed, knowing she would show up with a murderous aspect in mind, but you were too utterly exhausted to pick a fight with her. The walk back to the restaurant was longer than you expected, almost 10 minutes by the time you made it back. 

“Y/N, Oh my god!” 

You turned to see Enid running towards you in a panic, her hands reaching for your shoulders to pull you into a hug.

“Are you okay?! You disappeared! Did you get hurt?” She was rambling, throwing her hands in the air.

“I’m okay, I swear.” You responded, giving a small smile to her, “Just some guy trouble.”

Enid glared at you, a look of disappointment crossing her face. She pulled you into a hug again, her arms holding you way too tight as she scolded you.

“Never walk away by yourself ever again, you hear me?”

“Loud and clear.” You smiled, turning when you heard a car door slam loudly.

There stood Wednesday, fuming with fury and rage as she looked for you. Her shoulders rose and fell heavily as steam basically poured out of her ears; she was angry. As she scanned the sidewalk, her eyes locked with yours, her features relaxing in relief before she began to speed walk towards you.

“Y/N.” She stated before pulling you into her arms, “Are you okay? Does anything hurt? Did he give you any injuries?” 

You leaned back slightly to grab her face and push your lips into hers, putting a blockade in her rambling. She kissed you back immediately, wrapping her arms around your back and waist as an attempt to make you feel safe and secured in her hold.

“I’m fine, I’m fine.” You whispered to her, caressing her cheeks with your thumbs as you tried to relax her, “I’m right here, Nes.”

She sighed, staring at you with her endless black orbs. Her arms squeezed you, holding you close to her while you repeated that you were indeed okay.

“I’m never letting you out of my sight.” She murmured, locking her lips with yours.

You hummed, smiling into the kiss. The clouds above began to clear, and the plants previously growing from the cracks in the pavement started to shrivel and turn to dust. 

“I’ll take you both home.” Wednesday stated, pulling you in by your waist before walking to her car, “You need rest.”

You nodded, gesturing for Enid to follow the two of you. Wednesday held the door open for her, speaking her thanks after she got in, then turned for you to follow. You paused before doing so, leaning in to press your lips to her skin.

“Thank you for coming, I love you.” You said, rocking back and forth on your heel.

She smiled, a rare but glorious sight, and bumped her nose against yours in an affectionate way.

“You’re welcome, and I love you more.”

"Hey, Sunghoon," Yn whispered as the camera turned off.

He turned around quickly. "Yes?" he answered.

"I want to talk to you," she spoke. "Can you meet me at that park around 10?" she questioned, looking away as she spoke to him.

He smiled before nodding. "Yeah, sure, I'm down," he said. She nodded before going to her room, but he stopped her with his words. "I'm sorry, Yn," he spoke.

She turned around and furrowed her eyebrows. "What's there to be sorry about?" she questioned.

He shrugged. "I... We... Just ignore me. I'll see you at ten," he spoke, going to his room, leaving her confused before going into hers.

"Someone looks excited!" Yuri spoke, coming into the bathroom behind the girl.

Yn nodded, fixing her eyeliner. "Finally speaking to him. It's been like a couple of weeks, and then I was gone for those five days. Feels nice to know I'm going to speak to him again," she replied to Yuri.

Yuri hummed. "I'm proud of you, Yn. Please, please, please don't get caught! I'll be damned if you do. All of this could be put down the drain," Yuri said as Yn nodded.

"I promise not to get caught. I have this mask," she spoke, pulling out a black mask from her back pocket. "And this puffer jacket will eat up, don't play," she giggled.

Yuri smiled, about to say something before Yunjin walked in. "Yn babe, your Uber is outside! Go quick before Manager Kim comes back!" She smacked Yn's butt.

Yn laughed. "I'll see you guys later!" she smiled, leaving the bathroom and going to put her shoes on before heading out the door.

She sat on the bench, listening to music and waiting for him to come.

"Sorry, I'm a little late. I helped Jay clean up. That's besides the point. What did you want to talk about?" he suddenly spoke, scaring her a bit.

She grinned. "It's alright. I, uh, I need to say a few things," she said.

He nodded slowly. "Okayyyyyy," he dragged out.

She sighed heavily. "I apologize for those weeks I ignored you and shit. I didn't even want to do it, but my manager told me to do it, and I listened to her for some reason, even though it was hurting myself. I was being selfish, talking about saving my career, but that was just bullshit. And when you confessed to me that one day, I felt terrible for not answering you because I like you too. I like you a lot more than you could imagine and--"

She was cut off by a pair of lips connecting to hers. She was surprised but still kissed him back anyway.

He pulled away, grinning. "All those words you're wasting time. We could've been making out by now," he joked.

Even though it was dark outside, he could still see her face turn really red.

"You're getting red. I'm sorry I disturbed your yapping. You can continue," Sunghoon grinned.

She looked at him before leaning in for another kiss, which he gladly accepted, making her smile into the kiss before pulling away.

"I was expecting to apologize, not to kiss," she laughed. He laughed too.

"Well, basically, you got both! And you can finally unblock me, please!" he said, making her laugh even more.

She hummed. "I will, I will," she cheesed.

"What does this make us?" he questioned.

"Let's take it slow. We don't need girlfriend and boyfriend titles that fast, Romeo," she spoke.

He nodded. "I like it. Looks like I'll annoy you 10 times more!" he exclaimed as she rolled her eyes at him playfully.

el's thoughts: okayyyyyy after a lot of thinking through the plot of the series... i realized i can't actually make it so kaz and y/n are in a relationship by the end of the season.... soooo it's gonna be heavily hinted at through out the rest of the series and once i reach the end of s2 we'll just see where i go from there. anyway, sorry for keeping you waiting for a hot second! enjoy :)

The gunshots didn’t let up as grunts were barely heard from the hall. “It’s over, Brekker!” Pekka shouted over the gunfire. Kaz pulled out two small bombs from his pocket and a lighter. He tried to start the lighter but no flicker of fire came from it. He cursed under his breath before Y/N scoffed, “Oh, hand it over.” She pulled the bombs from his hands, snapped her fingers, and lit the fuses before throwing them over to the other side of the desk. Kaz stared at her as she brought her hands over her ears. His eyes calculating as if trying to solve the puzzle that was her. A flicker of amazement flashed through his eyes but vanished as quickly as it appeared. 

Y/N quickly shoved her thoughts away, “Ears!” She shouted at him and he quickly covered his ears right before the bombs went off.

Y/N sighed out loud as she cleaned up the soiled rags and dumped the blood-infested water down the drain. “It’s a miracle she’s alive.” She said, dragging herself out of her own thoughts of the moment just hours before.

Nina scoffed, “I’m no healer, but she would’ve been fine.” The inferni nodded, “Probably… I just don’t do blood.” The heartrender rolled her eyes, “How you were a lieutenant-general of the second army, I don’t know.” 

“Even I’d like to know how I got the position.” Her eyes glazed over as a memory of the Darkling flittered through her mind, “You know, never mind. I don’t want to know.” The reminder of his dark eyes scanning over her made a chill run down her spine.

Nina watched her with saddened eyes, knowing vaguely about the girl’s past from hushed whispers and rumors that spread like a wildfire through the little palace. It was a known fact that the General had a soft spot for the inferni since the moment he brought her in. Where she came from, no one knew. Everyone knew better than to prie into her business given her relationship with the Darkling. Were they a couple? It was never confirmed, but it was suggested strongly through actions. 

Muffled voices snapped the two out of their separate trains of thought. 

“We should go update them on Inej.” Nina shot her a smile as she walked out of the room. 

Y/N pulled herself out of her chair and followed, down a winding hall to the room where the muffled voices were heard. 

“You don’t take down a lion by cutting off his tail.” Kaz’s grave voice spoke harshly.

“I’m sorry, you’ve been on safari when? We’re putting out lives on the line.” The resentment in Jesper’s tone was as clear as the night sky outside the tomb windows.

“I thought you preferred it that way.”

The two grisha shared a look before making their presence known. Wylan was the first to turn toward them, “Is Inej going to be okay?”

Nina ran her hands over the waist of her dress as she spoke, “Um… I wouldn’t call myself the most proficient Healer, but she’ll not be a permanent resident here.” 

“Not yet anyway.” Jesper threw a glare at Kaz.

“Technically, no one gets buried here anymore. When the firepox plague hit years ago, so many people died that the crematoriums all got backed up, so they had to float all the dead bodies in the harbor.” Wylan said.

As the young chemist spoke Y/N noticed Brekker tense up at the mention of the plague. His shoulders stiffened and his hands clenched, causing the leather around his knuckled to tighten around his fists. 

“That’s enough!” 

The four people behind him froze in mild shock and slight fear. The sound of shuffling papers was heard before he turned around, handing the papers to Jesper. 

The sharpshooter’s eyes glanced down quickly, “Appelbroek?”

“Pekka has a glass factory there, but there are no sandpits in Appelbroek. So cartage fees would kill all of his profits. Find out what he’s really up to.” Kaz turned to Wylan, “If you want to help, instead of spurting useless historical facts, go with Jesper.” 

The pair was quick to leave the room, closing the door behind them.

All who were left were Nina, Y/N, and Kaz. Silence settled for a moment before the Heartrender spoke up. “Not that you asked, but you might want to consider grounding your Wraith for now. I always wanted to be a Healer, but that doesn’t mean that I’m any good.”

Kaz cut her off, “If I need you again, I’ll let you know.”

If glares could kill, he would be six feet under, two times over. Y/N and Nina shared an infuriated look, neither moving to make their leave. 

“All the guards who work the fights at Hellgate are loyal to Pekka and on his payroll. All but one.”

“The fights?” Y/N’s voice surprised her as she gave voice to her thoughts. 

“Hellshow. It’s exactly as you’d imagine. Find a guard names Hiemstra. He has a port-wine stain across his brow. He’ll get a message to your Fjerdan.”

“Can we trust him?” Nina asked. 

“We can trust he doesn’t want Pekka to know what I have on him.”

Nina nodded slightly and moved to the door as Kaz spoke up once again. “What you did tonight made you a Crow.” He turned to Y/N, “You as well. Keep a low profile. You’ll both be in Pekka’s sights now.”

The girls shared an annoyed glance before the brunette made her leave. 

Y/N stood silently by the other door watching Kaz sort through a few more papers as he zoned out on the wall in front of him. “Inej.” He looked up at met y/e/c eyes with a fire behind them. 

“Down the hall.” Y/N nodded to the door behind her and held her breath as he limped past her.

“What’s yours?”

Y/N barely heard Inej’s voice as she walked down the hall quietly. 

“The limp. The cane.” Kaz’s voice sounded strained as if it hurt him physically to speak.

Her stomach turned involuntarily as she watched them from the doorway.  Kaz stared at her as she brought her hands over her ears. His eyes calculating as if trying to solve the puzzle that was her. A flicker of amazement flashed through his eyes but vanished as quickly as it appeared. She felt her heart clench at the memory, her mind still trying to find the reasoning behind it. 

It was simply amazement. Kaz had never worked closely with a grisha, let alone the most powerful grisha in their class. She’d learned at an early age that some people get amazed at the slightest sign of power. And she picked up quickly that Kaz Brekker was one of those people. Even if he held his composition together.

If the look on his face was simply amazement, why did she replay that moment in her mind more than she’d like to admit?

Dragging herself out of her spiraling thoughts, she cleared her throat. Dirtyhands and the Wraith moved apart and turned to her. Kaz stared at her for a moment, the familiar flash of amazement flew through his coffee-brown eyes before they turned to stone once again.

“What’s the safest way from here back to the Slat?” Kaz asked. The grip on his cane was tight, making the leather gloves flex with his hand.

“Rozenstraat onto Buysberg. Why?” Inej answered, her voice tense.

“We need some new blood.” Kaz limped heavily towards the door and glanced one last time at Y/N before disappearing down the hallway. 

Y/n turned to Inej with a small teasing smile causing the suli girl to look down and hold her bleeding arm. “It’s not what you think.”

Y/N calmed her beating heart and internally sighed, “Believe me.” She huffed as she walked into the room to get a better look at her wounded arm. “‘Cause I was just thinking that he’s shit at first aid.” She picked up a clean rag and poured the disinfecting alcohol onto the fabric. “You might need a hand with this before I accompany Nina to the Hellshow.” She winked at the Wraith and they both chuckled. She started cleaning the cut along her forearm making Inej gasp at the stinging. 

Y/N bit back her smile in sympathy and shook her head slightly, “I’m sorry.”

“Well, isn’t this fun?” Y/N wrinkled her nose in utter disgust as they walked through the stands of the area inside Hellgate. Nina shot her a sharp glare causing the inferni to raise her hands slightly above her waist in surrender, “Right, sorry.”

The slow cranking of metal against metal echoed in the arena over all the shouts and loud conversations from the crowds. The two grisha women walked closer to the metal cage, Nina grasped the thick bars between her hands tightly, as if willing the metal to bend at her will. They both watched as a tall man walked out from under the gate. 

“Matthias.” Nina’s voice was barely heard over the cheering around them. 

The two men in the ring stood there for a moment before the one with ‘cannibal’ written on his back lunge first. A strong punch to the Fjerdan’s jaw caused his head to snap to the side, and with no time to recover another blow was aimed at his stomach. 

After taking a few more hits, resulting in the Heartrender flinching at every grunt, the Fjerdan finally snapped. He threw a jaw-snapping punch at the smaller man, spun around, and threw his elbow back landing on the man’s collarbone. The latter fell to the floor giving Matthias an opening to continue his attack. He picked up a leg and dragged the man on his back before crushing his leg in his grasp. 

The roar of the crowd grew loud enough to leave the inferni’s ears ringing. Nina called out to Matthias as she moved along the ring’s metal cage. Y/N followed her keeping a cautious eye on their surroundings, not placing a single valchka coin’s worth of trust in the people around them. Her cautions played out to be right when arms circled around her holding her arms apart. Nina struggled against the tight grips, shouting at the guards to let them go. 

“Rare thing, Heartrender, to know a new fighter by name.” The heavy accent from the Wanderling Isle made Y/N turn around in shock. Pekka Rollins stood before both women, still struggling in the grips of their captors. “Hellgate’s a rough spot for a Fjerdan to make friends. A good woman would do all that she could to see her man free.”

The two grisha shared a look before Nina turned back to Pekka and asked with a strained voice, “What’s your price?” 

He leaned closer to the Heartrender, “Bring me Kaz Brekker or I’ll see to it that your Fjerdan’s next fight is to the death.”
