The Osage Murders: How a Nation's Wealth Led to Its Downfall
youtube
This chilling true crime documentary uncovers the mystery of Anna Brown's murder in the oil-rich Osage Nation. Greed, corruption, and a string of unsolved killings haunt the Osage Hills. Explore the dark side of the 1920s with this gripping true crime investigation. #TrueCrime #truecrimestories #UnsolvedMysteries #OklahomaHistory #FBI #AnnaBrown In the early 1920s, the rolling plains of northeastern Oklahoma were painted with the colours of prosperity, the osage tribe was given a reserved land in Oklahoma by the US government after being forced off their land during the Indian wars of the previous century. The land seemingly provided nothing but according to the negotiation, the US government agreed that osage would have the rights to any minerals, including oil, gas, and coal, that were found on that land. The government had no idea that beneath the barren lands of the Osage Nation which they believed was useless lay a treasure full of black gold. The discovery of oil transformed this Native American tribe into one of the wealthiest communities per capita in the world. But with wealth came envy, and with envy, a dark shadow was cast over the land. This is the story of the Osage murders, a tale of greed, betrayal, conspiracy, and a quest for justice.

#AngiesReadingAdventure Black Birds In The Sky by Brandy Colbert Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ When was the first time you heard about the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre? Was it 2019 while watching Watchmen? In a class? I remembered learning about it a few years back. Learning it from a news article. It’s an event that holds a legacy and impact on the Black community til this day. Emotional from reading this book. Thank you Brandy Colbert for this book. For letting us read your work and research. This is definitely a book for EVERYONE to READ! #tulsamassacre #brandycolbert #1921tulsaracemassacre #bookreview #nonfictionbooks #blackhistory #segregation #1920samerica #tulsaoklahoma #tulsahistory #oklahomahistory #bookstagram #bookrecommendations https://www.instagram.com/p/Chsq8vSvu7W/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

The absolutely stunning and gorgeous abandoned Willow School in southwest, Oklahoma. She was built in 1888 and was the the whole reason I took the trip to Mangum, Oklahoma in the first place. I can't wrap my mind around how beautiful this place is. Special thank you to @awolflikeme for letting me know this place existed. Want to support the Oklahoma Abandoned Project? “The lives that ended that night mattered. It was a mistake for this city to try to forget, and it’s an even bigger one to pretend everything’s fine now. Black men and women are dying today for the same reasons they did in 1921. And we have to call that out.. Every single time.” -Jennifer Latham, Dreamland Burning •——————————————————————————• It’s Memorial Day in the U.S. but it is also the centennial anniversary of the Tulsa Race Massacre. Oklahoma’s dirty little secret not taught in most schools even though we have an entire Oklahoma History class required for graduation. Everything I’ve learned about it I had to learn on my own. I’m currently reading Dreamland Burning, a historical fiction story about that time. So far it’s really good, though I do wish it was coming from a POC author and I plan on looking for more stories from a Black Author. •——————————————————————————• If you are interested in reading this book I would implore you to purchase it from @fultonstreet918 a Black owned bookstore in Tulsa, very near the Greenwood district. You can order online! And if it’s not in the budget, ask your library to purchase it. Then more people can read it. •——————————————————————————• #dreamlandburning #tulsaracemassacre #blackwallstreet #yalit #yabooks #historicalfiction #historicalfictionbooks #bookish #bibliophile #bibliophilelife #currentlyreading #booksbooksbooks #bookshelves #bookstack #memorialdayweekend #oklahomahistory #booklover #readersofinstagram https://www.instagram.com/p/CPi_34rLnK1/?utm_medium=tumblr
