a/n: this is an over one year old request, my apologies. i’ve been finally feeling up to working through some of my old stuff, so i’m hopefully gonna put them out over the next little bit

robb stark + “why are your hands so dry?”

Winter had come swiftly.

Summer flurries had turned to inches deep snow that gathered on the hem of your skirts and soaked the bottom of your cloak. You’d taken to spending most of your time indoors, basking in the heat the springs beneath Winterfell offered. Robb, ever dutiful, had barely had the chance to even sleep beside you, too consumed by his ever pressing responsibilities as King in the North.

You sighed, setting down the cross stitching you’d been working on for what seemed like ages, and instead inspected your hands. The cold made them ache, but the constant back and forth between the wet outdoors and burning dry heat of the castle had caused the skin to redden and crack in a far more painful manner. They stung when exposed to moisture and every time you attempted to smooth creams over them, you’d end up wishing you hadn’t.

Not built for the North, you’d utter to whoever was closest to you.

Sansa had spent much of her time reminding you that no one was truly equipped for the winter. You pushed yourself up from your seat, stretching your tired limbs and making your way to your husband’s side of the chambers. He’d hardly slept these past few weeks. His space was a reflection of the fact. Papers scattered everywhere, quills broken on the floor.

As you entered his space, Robb glanced up from his desk. Dark circles had taken residence under his eyes, his beard longer than you’d ever seen it. You smiled softly and stopped only when you came to stand behind him.

“My love, you need to sleep.”

He sighed as you placed your hands on his shoulders, thumbs digging into the skin of his back. Fingers met resistance in the form of tense muscle. You shook your head and leaned forward, nuzzling your face into his neck. Soft words were muttered against his skin.

“You’re exhausted. Come, it’s hard to sleep without you by my side.”

He placed his quill down, half-heartedly ensuring that none of the ink spilled along the haphazard papers, and leaned into you. Weariness rolled off of him in waves, sinking into your bones like a sickness. One of his hands closed over yours, a warm weight over your freezing digits. He chuckled, motioning for you to let him stand up. Robb drew you to his side as he did. His arms wrapped around your shoulders and he sighed into your hair, nearly limp.

“I don’t suppose I could give the crown to Bran, could I?” You giggled, pulling away just enough to slowly guide him to your shared bed. It was far easier to be King when all you had to worry about was fighting a war. The politics and peacemaking had deemed itself a much more difficult beast.

Readying yourselves for bed was a well rehearsed event, layers quickly shed and folded by your bedside, stored close by for when it came time to awake in the morning. You slipped into the bed in your underthings just moments after Robb, basking in the soft comfort they offered.

“You’re rather happy.” You glanced over at Robb’s face as he spoke. Truthfully, you’d been happier as of late. Your duties were going smoothly, and you seemed to fit right in with the Northern ladies.

“I’m happy you’re here with me.” The words didn’t warrant the quick look at Robb’s chest, but it happened nonetheless. Raised scars littered his chest and abdomen, just as they did your torso. He sighed, drawing you near. He took your right hand in his, bringing it to his lips.

Velvety skin met rough flesh and Robb paused. You said nothing as he inspected the back of your hand; his blue eyes narrowed in on the raw, dry patches far more painful looking than they actually were.

“Why are your hands so dry?”

His words shouldn’t have caused such laughter, but the incredulous look on his face was enough for you to break out in a fit of it. His brow furrowed and you shook your head. A simple explanation fell from your lips.

“I’m not used to the cold.” Robb frowned. Laughter still lined the planes of your face, amusement sparkling in your eyes as he ran a finger over the nearly cracked skin of your knuckles.

“Surely something exists to prevent this sort of harm.” You shrugged, drawing nearer to him and resting your head on his warm shoulder. There were certainly a plethora of creams and ointments one could use to soothe irritated skin, though you had a habit of forgetting to apply them. In the end it always hurt worse to use them.

Robb sighed, letting go of your hands in favor of wrapping his arms around you. Tension melted away as you drew meaningless circles into his skin, drifting off to sleep as the fire in the hearth died down.

“Remind me to have Jeyne bring you some cream tomorrow morning, will you?” You mumbled an agreement, patting his chest and drifting off. A noncommittal response. Affection bloomed in his eyes before he closed them, following you into the realm of sleep.

I finally, FINALLY found a shred of proof that Rachel depicted Persephone before 2017/Tumblr era LO.

Now does this confirm that Greek myth was, in fact, a big part of her childhood like she claims? Not entirely, considering she would have been the age I am now when she drew this, nearing her 30's. But it's more than what I've seen leading up to this where it's all been Tumblr-era-LO art. This seems to be purely for a zine that I unfortunately can't get my hands on a copy of due to it being very outdated and likely out of print (as it's a decade old now). Still, I'm tempted to reach out to the people who run the site to see if they still have any copies floating around, even if it's just a digital PDF version, otherwise, if anyone out there happens to have a copy of it (this is a LOOONG shot mind you) let me know because I'd love to see this zine in person and know what was going on in the development of it. More specifically, I wanna see if she included any sort of blurb about her choice to draw Persephone, if it was even an actual choice at all. Don't get me wrong, it's not like I'm deadset on Rachel having to "prove" herself, but a lot of her statements H x P seem to be quite vague for someone who calls them her "muses".

But also, besides the fact that it involves Rachel, this is the sort of media preservation that I'm really interested in! This Persephone is a far cry from the final version we'd later see in LO half a decade later, it's really interesting (although sad in some ways when we know why LO Persephone looks the way she does) to see the transition and changes in a tangible form. And again, it's really odd Rachel never mentions these works, like sure they weren't multi-million dollar hits, but they still showcase a history that pre-exists LO in a pretty monumental way, and some of these projects were incredibly collaborative with actual success behind them, including artists that went on to build their own followings and communities! It's so interesting and yet so bizarre that some of these projects are kept behind locked doors. I can get wanting to bury the more 'cringe' stuff like the medical fetish art, but why stuff like this that only stands to legitimize the claims that Rachel cares about Greek myth?

Unless... y'know, she doesn't want people to see how far her art style has fallen. But that's tinfoil for another day.

I don't remember if I have posted this before, if I did, do forgive, we're having double posts (also don't remember if I was using my old signature, which I probably was)

This is one of the first studies I did when starting to look more into fluid posing, gesture drawing, breaking down characters in different poses of the same moment to choose what would be the key illustration aaaand developing a new way of shading digitally (I suck in digital illust, when it comes to traditional I have everything under control and I needed something more traditional looking to be happy back then).

Yennefer accidentally became my character for studies and I drew her SO MUCH for MONTHS, I can almost draw her with my eyes closed xD

I was using Krita back then, before moving to Photoshop, but I still miss the different types of brushes there. Might have to start mixing both softwares.

This "concept" was, Yen finding Geralt hurt, grabbing his sword, and then just going full sorcerer of Vengerberg after that (and the little note up there is written "16 meters of legs", 'cause everyone I draw tend to end up with the LONGEST legs EVER)

And this is "Yen, not everyone can cook" and her just "get out of here, witchers, before I turn all of you into bloated frogs". I think there's something sweet of her not being able to cook at ALL and Geralt being a little more gifted regarding that.

These are all sketches - the second ones are a little more polished with clothes and all, but still VERY quick sketches. The ones I'd use as a base to make the final, polished version.

2015 - i was very immersed in the soul eater community! i kept doing resbangs and making friends, and i love doing AUs, specifically soul & maka centric. this is the HTTYD AU where soul is the dragon!

2016 - yes this is Little Things PH's OCs that i did back in the day! i love their lil guys so much i had to make fanart. this was the art i gave to Ate in person!!

2017 - i drew a lot more pokemon this time ! idk why i didn't draw more of it digitally before. i had too much soul eater brainrot lmao. so i combined them! behold contestshipping x soma AU

2018 - this was the time when i got into K-pop! specifically Monsta X haha, i got more interested in doing fashion, especially for male characters~ (and i had to draw my beloved agenda, somakid)

2019 - my bias from MX, Minhyuk on a whale with Minggom! this was made for an artbook that was sent to him! i hope he got to see this along with my tiny message ;; i delved more into a new tiny chibi art style here

2020 - i drew way too much during this year and it led me to impossibly high standards for my art to this day //sobs. i redrew my Your Lie in April AU fanart and i really think i improved so much….. i went out of my comfort zone to really draw the background and the piano

2021 - genshin brainrot started here !! i was trying to find my style even more, and i love kokomi's color palette. i remember looking at 10x references and combining them into this specific pose in the fanart. i still think to this day this is one of my personal favorite art pieces of all time

2022 - another personal favorite art piece (and something my friend aura and a commissioner personally loved!), i was practicing on drawing men since i wasn't confident, but seeing how this turned out made me want to keep going ❤️

2023 - the latest maka & kid piece that i made! they are so precious to me. i love trying out new poses and dynamics, and i tried changing their outfits a bit more to highlight that i wanna try new fashion stuff ^^; i'd like to say it was a job well done ngl

2024 - and finally, a recent piece that i'm most proud of, and shows a lot of my art style (and i drew the background from scratch!). i redrew an old comic panel from a now discontinued comic, but i feel like i improved so much in terms of rendering, coloring, and anatomy!!

This... scorpion, I guess... comes from MS Arundel 60, which the British Library has digitized fully (link here). It's the oldest from the original post, coming from England not long after the Norman Conquest.

This is another calendar scorpion, and it's so far off from What Is Scorpions that I went to check the other Zodiac animals to see if maybe this artist was just doing random Beaſts for all of them. But no, the rest are stylized-but-recognizable, so it's clearly just a case of not having the first clue what a "scorpion" looks like. Here's the rest of the Zodiac, by the way, because I honestly find this style very aesthetically pleasing and want to share:

No, I have no idea what those things Gemini is holding are. They look like either smoking gun barrels or giant cigars, but obviously this is hundreds of years before either of those things could be found in England. (I guess they could be joints -- marijuana is an Old World plant, and people definitely smoked it at the time, but it wasn't popular in Europe. Whether that's down to culture or climate... look, I'm rambling, we did a whole episode on this a couple years ago (link here), so if you want to know, go listen.)

Anyway, this may seem like an unnecessary diversion, but checking out the rest of the Zodiac answered my most pressing question about this illustration. Namely:

Why are you shooting him? :(

My initial guess was that this was another case of Manuscript Telephone. You know, maybe one artist gave their Scorpio a long tongue or drew venom shooting out of its mouth, then someone else misinterpreted it as an arrow and drew that into their illustration, etc. However, the actual reason becomes apparent when you look at the way the pages are laid out:

Sagittarius is on the facing page. He's shooting Scorpio across the gutter of the manuscript.

Anyway, final note before I get into the points: we can see that the tail is coiled, meaning we've probably got that "knotted tail" thing from Pliny again.

Now, points:

So over today, I took the time to check into a film that I've been very much looking forward to as I went about the day's events: A24 and Jane Schoenbrun's indie horror film "I Saw The TV Glow", as it had finally released on digital.

And with all honesty? It's now my favorite film of 2024 so far.

This film grips and understands the double-edged sword of nostalgia, the blessings of which it creates in the moment and the horrors that it creates in the long term when overabundant, all wrapped up in a trans-themed package. For me, nostalgia, especially nostalgia over television is a strong subject for me. Being neurodivergent and Canadian, I could spend hours upon hours talking about our own old television and even old shows that I was raised on. But the thing is, while nostalgia to me is viewed a positive, there are other situations in which nostalgia becomes a survival method or something that needs to be done to save face. In this film's case, we see a lot more of the latter than the former, we see what these characters' obsessions with "The Pink Opaque" leads to with the tumultuous lives that they lead and moreso, where that obsession can lead to, changes and all.

And it's through this that "I Saw The TV Glow" wrecked me, even with the very bittersweet ending we saw, I was sobbing hard and knew I had to draw something for the film. Jane's direction is bizarre and unsettling, but at the same time, able to touch viewers who looked into the film under the precedent that they themselves felt that strong form of nostalgia for a TV show too, like "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" or "Supernatural" or so forth. It's a risk of a film, one I don't think anyone but A24 would have given the go ahead to. Give it a go even if just once to make your own opinion and idea of the film, if it's up your alley!

Now, what I drew up for the occasion is reflective of the melancholy and the nostalgia the film carries, as well as the marketing A24 gave us: VHS tracking, pinks and purples and our main character, Owen, and the uncertainty with being so obsessed with "The Pink Opaque", mystery and all. I'm really happy with the results~ 📺
