But the biggest move, no doubt, was getting Tyler Seguin.

When I heard about the trade that summer, I immediately started texting back and forth with Tyler. I told him about Dallas and why I love it here. In Tyler, I saw an opportunity. The Stars hadn’t made the playoffs since I came into the league, but I knew he could help us do that and more. He was a young guy, but he’d already been to the finals and won a Cup. He knew how to get where we wanted to be.

On the surface, Tyler and I are very different people. I’m more on the quiet side, while Tyler is all personality. He thinks he’s a pretty good looking dude and isn’t afraid to say so. I’m a little more reserved than that.

But we immediately clicked because we have a common denominator: Before everything else, we’re hockey players.

His first night here, he came over and had dinner with me and my brother Jordie. I cooked steaks, which is pretty much the only thing in my wheelhouse — one of the perks of living in Texas, I guess. What stood out about that night was that there was no “feeling out” phase between us. Nothing awkward. It was like he’d been playing here for years. It didn’t take long for us to start talking about the future.

We talked about the kind of hockey we wanted to play. How we could go back to our normal positions and be at our best. We had a new owner, a new GM, a new coach and new jerseys.

A new start.

Me, finding an old interview, reading:

[Hugh Skinner] said Radovid is genuinely “captivated” by Jaskier “for obvious reasons.”

Nevertheless, there is still a risk in being involved with Radovid.

“I’m almost certain Jaskier is fully aware of the dangers of being intimate or romantically involved with someone of such great political power in the Continent,” Batey said. “But you have to put yourself out there and try and connect with people like that and try and be a loving human being. Otherwise, what’s the point of existing?”

And suddenly, breaking into a fit of laughter, because all I heard in my head was Jaskier's voice going:

"What's the point of existing, if you don't put yourself out there to try to lovingly and intimately connect with someone of such great political power in the Continent, Geralt?!

Geralt?! Geralt, are you even listening?! Why live... if you can't love yourself a Redanian Crown Prince?!"

*Wheezing* Send help!

Poor Geralt is probably just groaning: "Go back to sleep, Bard. You're drunk."

Then, they learn that Radovid is now the bloody king of Redania (in the middle of a war with Nilfgaard, no less), and things just became so much more dangerous for anyone romantically involved with him; and Geralt can't say anything about it because he's the dumbass that went back into a big crumbling building to save a mad fucking witch!

No but seriously, I suppose that Joey didn't mean "people like that" as in "people of great political power that makes being intimate and becoming romantically involved with them inherently dangerous" specifically; probably more like a blanket statement.

But that's how it spontaneously came across, and JFC! Joey! What an overly dramatic thing to say!

I mean, from Jaskier's P.O.V. it would 100% make sense, I guess. He's just been this sweet little penguin traveling the Continent, slipping on rocks, falling in love with people left and right, regardless of the risks potentially involved...

...occasionally looking for an abandoned egg or kid to adopt and look after with another male, as penguins do...

... and the idea that you should never be intimidated into not falling in love with someone, no matter how much it might make you suffer, being at the very core of Jaskier's identity to the point where he feels like he'd just be utterly erased from existence if he ever used any common sense and stopped himself from ever loving on someone tracks!

I get it.

But from you?

There are plenty of other reasons to exist, Joey!

(Though being a loving human being in the general sense indeed should be part of the many reasons to be put on this Earth, I absolutely give you that!)

Between Radovid essentially telling his brother that Jaskier is the one thing he was put on the Continent to do, and you basically making it sound like "What's the point of Jaskier's existence if he doesn't put himself out there to fall in love and intimately connect with people like Radovid?", I really can't tell which one is being more ridiculous (way to dial the romance up to 11!), and I'm 100% here for it!
