Oh, the things you can stumble across buried in old files you haven't looked at for years! I've been struggling with my computer storage (I hate iCloud with a passion because it sucks everything up, announces it's out of room, and then requires you to go document by document to whittle it down. I want my old Mac back). What I discovered during my latest struggles are the only attempts I ever made to commit Snape art - frickin' years ago, back in LiveJournal's glory days. Someone organized a postcard/Hallowe'en exchange - those may have been two separate occasions, I don't remember - and in the joy of the moment, I signed up! Even though I can't draw. Who cares? That wasn't the point. I cut up construction paper with the glee of a kindergartener and I scribbled amateurish Snapes and I sent them off by mail. But apparently I photographed them first! I'm overcome by nostalgia and fits of giggling. It was so damn fun.

I've put them under a cut because they're big and they're ugly. The top one was my feeble first-draft stab at a pencil sketch. Below that are bat Snape and ghost Snape. The middle three were all the same card, pasted together to fold out. My favorite is the last - the angstiest one, of course. (I can't believe I used to have time to do such things.) Daddy’s girl, Leslie Lee Barrett is the only daughter of well-established Explorer and Treasure Hunter, Lee Barrett (her mom lost a bet and had to name her after him). Her mom, Dr. Joselyn Barrett, is an Archaeology Professor at Britechester. Leslie Lee earned the nickname Lee Jr. all on her own because if you hadn’t heard of him before she’ll make sure you know now. She is the younger, female, unlucky and accident-prone version of him after all.

LJ was born in Mt. Komorebi but grew up in the jungles of Selvadorada since she was a toddler. She wouldn’t be surprised if she’s already passed by any of the other contestants while dancing barefoot in the Cantina. She likes dancing and Latin music and will show you how to order food off the Selvadorada Market’s secret menu if she likes you. She can make a pretty decent Curanto too.

After leaving University she travelled the world on her own for a bit. She loves meeting new people and exploring new places. She wrestled children for some Voidcritter cards at the Festival of Youth, won the Humor and Hijinks tournament in San Myshuno, did whatever people do in Newcrest...but returning to Selvadorada is a feeling that’s indescribable. 

Though she’s happy to be home, she knows that love is what’s missing in her life now. She used to think that she looked up to her father because of the adventurous life he led but now she know it’s because of the unwavering way her parents loved each other. She’s ready for some of that for herself. Love in her profession is hard. Relationships last as long as it takes to clear an Omiscan ruin and other hunters aren’t really looking for long term. 

Even finding lasting friendship is difficult (she only has four friends. They’re all old. Two of them are her parents.) So she may try to hit up the other contestants for a quick temple run when this is done but Branson is the real reason she’s here. If Branson is the one, she’ll definitely take him home and let him play with her voodoo doll collection...but, you know, forever.

Zoro and Sanji understand each other, and sometimes have a very similar sense of humor. Even though they're worlds ahead of most, sometimes they can't help but to act their age.

easily one of my favorites. zoro and sanji are completely in character, being themselves and comfortable in each other’s spaces. for anyone who thinks zoro and sanji can’t get along in canon, this fic can easily prove them wrong.

Part Timer by 8ball ♡♡

Sanji really, really doesn't want to give Zoro a job at his restaurant. Zoro doesn't really even want to work there in the first place, but, well, there’s this thing with Sanji, and this thing with feelings and the whole thing is pretty damn stupid all together.

Zeff just wants grandkids. He’s too old for this bullshit anyways.

a wonderful, heart-wrenching, roller coaster ride of a post-series fic. this fic is not just a mere fic — it’s a zosan magnum opus with guest appearances by so many other characters, lots of crew hijinks and a must-read for everyone who craves for a happy ending for these good boys.

Say It Again by 8ball

Zoro tells Sanji how he feels. And then again. And again. 

since we’re talking about 8ball i just want you to know i’d rec everything they’ve ever written, but special mention to say it again — a classic miscommunication trope fic done well where the miscommunication stems from fundamental misunderstanding of each other’s principles and views instead of just some plot-convenient coincidences. and soft zoro. god, he is soft.

Sanji decides to quit smoking. This is not quite so easy as he thinks it will be. Also, his crewmates (excluding Robin and Nami, of course!) are assholes.

fun, fun strawhat hijinks and oblivious sanji. the crew dynamics and especially sanji’s voice are pitch perfect. there’s a hint of luffy/nami that you can easily scroll past if it’s not your thing.

holy shit is this fic hilarious. i love comedy fics that manage to slip in thoughtful observations and character study in between the hijinks, and this fic pulls that off with flying colors.

fun short fic from reiju’s pov. there’s never enough zosan set in whole cake island arc and this fic delivers.

Stormbird by Judin ♡

The Straw Hats' first landing in the New World is on Arashi Island, where it looks like they'll be spending a fun week attending the local festival and making new friends. Until they spot a strange pirate ship in the harbour, and Sanji starts behaving oddly. The Straw Hats become entangled with the mysterious Gently Pirates, a crew that harbour many secrets, and whose captain is a man out of Sanji's past who has the power to tear the Straw Hat crew apart. 

it cannot be overstated how wonderful this fic is, and how it could’ve fit into the canon just nicely, like a better-written one piece movie, except with zosan. not only are sanji and zoro in character, every strawhat gets a spotlight and has pitch-perfect voices. brook is especially lovely in this fic.

Unintended Consequence by itsmylifekay

A group of marines charge, Zoro slices through them, and in that instant Sanji feels his own eyes grow wide. Because there, on the arm now outstretched towards him, steel glinting in hand, is the stupid bracelet he’d given Zoro. The bastard is actually wearing it.

there’s a reason this is the most kudo-ed zosan fic on ao3 right now — it’s so soft without being ooc, and there’s a quiet undercurrent of affection laid throughout the fic that will warm you up from the insides.

Somewhere Between Sorrow and Bliss by srididdledeedee

Sanji has never cared for winter.

He can see himself, is the thing. There are bits and pieces that poke through, but it’s not all him. It’s like staring in a fractured mirror. He knows, intellectually, that the person staring back at him is himself, but his face is splintered and his shape is distorted and his body is wrong.

a fantastic character study on trans!sanji and how he comes to terms with his identity with the help of his crewmates. supportive strawhats are always a lovely addition to a zosan fic

Zoro knows better than to think about it too much, but between the rowdy festivals and ancient unexplained temples on this island, it's hard to forget about wanting Sanji.

i love how this fic puts as much focus on the boys after the confession as it does before the confession. a good case fic with its own unique island adventure and i’m always a sucker for soft!zoro

this fic handles tropes that are usually associated with character death fics, but manages to end it with a happy ending. zoro’s devotion here is heart-wrenching.

a classic  — this is literally the first zosan fic i’ve ever read — and a lovely one at that. sanji is oblivious and zoro attempts romance, not that zoro ever needed to.

i’m an absolute sucker for fics that have zoro and sanji simply hanging out and enjoying each other’s company, comfortable in a way they couldn’t with their other crewmates, and this fic exemplifies that. just them being little shits and having fun with one another.

Zoro has a lot of things he wants to say to Sanji, but he just needs one more day. || Zoro tries to fix a mistake he made in the past.

major character death warning. i died a little bit inside after reading this tbh. there are some devil fruits-explained time travel hijinks, but mostly it’s this looming, grim inevitability of death that’s written so pervasively throughout the fic that really got me.

Zoro is confident in saying that Sanji is a man who doesn’t do what he’s told. Which is why, when a command accidentally slips from Zoro’s lips during foreplay, he is expecting to hear the cook’s scoff as he continues to do what he pleases.

i don’t tend to do pwp, but this isn’t just one — it’s a completely in-character piece about their relationship and dynamics.

this fic is as much sanuso as it is zosan, and usopp here is — still very much usopp, but also a very beautiful take on his character as someone who spent a lot of time behind sanji’s back, and realizes that when he watches sanji’s back, he gets to see zoro’s, too.

Sanji was trained in the Bridal Arts; this does not go unnoticed by the rest of his crew.

while the main ship is still zosan, the fic also focuses a lot on zoro and sanji’s relationship with the rest of the crew, and it’s one of those fics that really makes you realize how much of a family the strawhats is. a lovely read all around.

a dysfunctional take of their relationship. it’s fascinating in the same way a car crash is fascinating  — there’s an undercurrent of something violent, something visceral. this is one of the fics that inspired me to write migratory animals.

a fascinating retelling of the one piece canon with mermaid!sanji. it feels a lot like a love letter to the seas, and it’s mesmerizing how sanji’s mermaid backstory is seamlessly weaved into the one piece canon.

on the topic of meet-the-family: the only thing more fun than zoro meeting zeff is zoro meeting zeff and the entirety of baratie staff. also includes one of my favorite line about bi!sanji: “sanji loves nice girls and bad boys”.

this is a circus/bakery au. yes, you read that right, and yes, it works. i went into this fic with a lot of doubts and came out very satisfied with how fleshed out everyone in this au is, and i’m forever in awe with how the author can set up an entirely separate, vivid universe with so few words.

Sanji is stuck delivering pizzas when Patty is out of commission for a while. Zoro likes to order pizza after training. Both of them are sort of idiots, but Zoro can be smooth as fuck if he puts his mind to it.

The End of It All by xpiester333xx

Humans have been forced underground due to the effects of a chemical weapon that has made surface life impossible. Sanji lives in one of these underground colonies and though he dreams of bigger things his life has been mundane; spent following strict rules and obeying higher commands. Or it was, until a stranger shows up and changes everything.

the author labelled it as sci-fi au, but I personally think it’s more dystopian-like? either way, while this fic is on the long side, it manages to keep everyone in character until the very end, which is something that can’t be said for a lot of fics.

Hey guys.  Now that A Growing Bond is finished, I’m wanting to keep up the momentum by getting right into some new writing projects.  But I’m not quite sure which of my current ideas I should try focusing on.

So in order to help me make that decision, I’m asking you guys to, if you can, fill out this quick survey to see which of these stories ideas you’d be most interested in seeing.

Hercules Logicality AU

When most famders I know consider the possibility of a Disney’s Hercules AU, they mostly think of Prinxiety with Roman as Hercules and Virgil as Meg.  But if you ask me, Hercules is much more similar to Patton in terms of personality and disposition.  Which inspired me to come up with this new story idea with Patton as Hercules and Logan as Meg.  I haven’t quite developed this one yet, but I already really like it.

LAMP in a Lamp AU

Inspired by an idea from @residentanchor, this story would see Thomas acquiring a quartet of genie lamps holding the sides.  In addition to using their magic to help him with day to day stuff and getting their advice for regular challenges, Thomas would also be tasked with figuring out the curse behind the quartet’s imprisonment, as well as dealing with a dangerous power that only he and his genies can stop.

Giants/Size Shifters AU

Set in a world home to regular humans, giants, and shifters who can switch between giant and human size at will, this AU follows the life of adopted Giant/Shifter hybrid Virgil as he deals with his own insecurities about his power and size.  Helping him through this is his adopted parents Patton and Logan, and his best friend and secret crush Roman, who also has a secret in the form of his shifter abilities, which he’s hiding from his giant slaying family.

Giant/Circus Story

During a visit to a traveling circus, Patton stumbles upon an enslaved young giant (Virgil) who he frees and sneaks back to his apartment to take care of.  But now he not only has a scared and confused giant kid to take care of, but also the problem of his friends Logan and Patton finding out the truth, as well as keeping the cruel circus owner from finding his new friend and dragging him back to his life of servitude.

Freak Show Story

Another of my less developed ideas, this one would see Thomas visiting a strange traveling circus, only to be ensnared and enslaved to the will of its mysterious and cruel ringmaster.  But perhaps he can escape this cruel fate, with the help of some rather colorful characters from the circus’ freak show.

Immortality AU

Logan is old, very old.  So old in fact that he has borne witness to the full winding history of human development, going all the way back to the first tribes of hunters and gatherers.  But Logan isn’t the only immortal around.  Over the ages, he’s encountered a number of individuals whom he’s bonded with, only to cause them to become immortals as well.  Now in the mid 21st century, three of these past companions of his have come together into a relationship.  Not that he’s jealous of them, no sir, not at all.

Borrower House Story

Thomas has just inherited an old house from his late aunt.  But unbeknownst to him, this house is populated by a bustling community of Borrowers.  This series would follow the wacky hijinks and adventures as he and the borrowers get to know each other.

Perspective Story

Based on my previous short story, A Matter of Perspective, this one would feature the boys going on adventures with the help of Virgil’s size changing potions.  Whether a towering giant or a two inch tiny, the true adventure is getting to see the world, and yourself, from a whole new perspective.

Retrospective Series

This one’s a little complicated.  You see, I’m a big fan of the Perspective series by @hiddendreamer67 and @arc852.  And several of the stories ended in such a way that I couldn’t help but start to imagine what happened after the stories ended.  So, with their permission to do so, I would be using this series to give my own take on what happens after each of the Perspective stories ended.

A more long term idea of mine, this one would tie in with two stories I’ve already written:  A Legal Intervention and A Tale of Two Royals.  The idea behind this series would be a sort of response story to each Sanders Sides episode, from the very first on through each new video as it comes out.

Probably my most well developed unwritten idea, this LAMP story would see high school math teacher Logan discovering much to his shock that he’s fallen in love with three other guys he sees during his days, and would watch him figure out what to do about it.

Changing Realities (In Progress)

Those of you who’ve been following me for a long time probably remember this story, the very first I started publishing on AO3.  Sadly, it’s fallen by the wayside in recent times.  But I’m wanting to get back on it once more.

For those who aren’t familiar with this one, it’s the story of Thomas’ unusual new roommate, who turns out to be not only much stranger than Thomas or his sides ever expected, but is actually quite literally out of this world.

Rose didn't actually fly out to be with her sick mom, that's just what she told Daniel so he wouldn't feel bad. She actually took the day off work and kidnapped Violet for a girl's day. Broken hearts need to be mended after all.

Everyone is sick of Daniel's Hawaiian shirts. Peggy, Ana, and Jarvis conspire to give him a makeover.

Howard is sick (and a terrible patient), but Jarvis is out of town assisting Peggy on a case, so it falls to Ana to play nursemaid. Howard is not pleased.

Jack was the best man at Peggy and Daniel’s wedding. No one outside the three of them knew he was joining them for their wedding night too.

Howard and Jason have a thing, but it's not like it means anything. Sex can be just sex, right? Jason slept with guys in the Navy without it meaning anything after all. But none of those relationships lasted more than ten years. And he didn't resent their wives and girlfriends when the war was over. Hell, he doesn't resent Howard's many flings either. He resents the hell out of Maria Carbonelli, though.

Angie dances with each of the Howling Commandos in turn at Peggy and Daniel's wedding. Peg sure does know some interesting people, doesn't she?

Bernard just wants to be a star. In which future film historians watch Stark Studios movies not because they're any good, but because they all have a random flamingo in the background of some of the shots. It makes for a fun drinking game.

Everyone has amnesia.

In a case of mistaken identity, Ana is taken hostage by someone who thinks she's Peggy. But she has a few tricks of her own up her sleeve.

Strip poker night!

Sousa and Peggy are in a relationship or married, but an undercover job comes along and Peggy and Thompson have to pretend to be married for the case. Could be OT3 or just wacky hijinks.

Peggy Carter-Sousa is the director of the newly formed SHIELD, making her husband Daniel a political spouse. Could be competency kink (he knows the names of all the kids of all the senators, but also the names of their mistresses and who to subtly blackmail come funding time), or hijinks or loyalty kink (he keeps trying to hit people with his cane for implying she's a communist who slept her way to the top).

While I was going through my LJ for reasons, I found this old post - ten years ago holy shit - and realized it would be like the one thing I would regret getting rid of if I get around to deleting the blog/I don’t post long enough for it to get deleted (next year will be five years, so...), so yeah, this is getting copied over.

Have fun with my One Piece/Stargate: SG-1 babble from when I was really sleep deprived during college in 2007. Maybe one day I will even do something with it, but it is unlikely.

As I'm on *checks clock* hour twenty-eight of no sleep, I just want to jot this down to see if it makes as much sense later as it does now. So, there's a Stargate in Arabasta, probably the ruins outside Arubarna, and it activates a few weeks after the rebellion ends, and who should come out but SG-1 (as if it would be anyone else. I mean, c'mon, they're the title characters. And as I've only seen about halfway through season four, it kinda limits when I can place it in SG-1 timeline, but I see it happening with with the classic team anyway). So, locals hanging around the ruins (it looks pretty popular with the kids, though the fact that it's partially collapsed at that point could discourage it, so a clean-up crew maybe?) see the Stargate activate and go "O.O HOSHI!!11!1" and run off and tell the royal guard (unless it's guardsmen, who are all "O.O HOSHI!!11!1 and send a message to the palace) and it ends up with jumpy guardsmen and wary/weary SG-1 until Chaka and/or Pell (probably Pell, actually, as he seems to be pretty well up and about by mid-W7 or whenever that cover arc takes place, so he could probably fly there faster than Chaka could run) arrive to calm the situation down but then Carter and Chaka and/or Pell are all like "O_<" at each other 'cause naquadah and devil fruit don't get along but none of them quite know that so they just get twitchy around each other and don't know why. So SG-1 are at the palace and Cobra, Vivi & Co. are busy with tracking down last of Baroques Works and rebels, and with keeping SG-1 from both general populace and the navy until they quite figure out what to do with them. Meanwhile, Daniel's having a blast with Alabasta history and legends (I imagine the Guardian Spirits alone, and how they relate to Chaka and Pell (they don't mention the whole devil fruit thing pretty much because they don't really think of it) could keep him busy for weeks), Sam's trying to figure out the snail-phone and discretely investigate twitchy-feeling Chaka and Pell inspire in her, Teal'c is rather enjoying his time with the royal guard, and Jack is picking up recent news about rebellion and certain events involving a certain pirate crew. But they all want to know what's up with this world. See, this is another one of those worlds that the Goa'uld forbid anyone from going to, and everyone wants to know *why*. So they're picking up puzzle pieces but, because they're limited to the palace, aren't getting far. Daniel will probably have more luck figuring out some things, buried up to his neck in books about the world, and would probably easily find something about devil fruit. Though, would he think it's just a metaphorical things? Not sure, really, but I'd love to see Sam's face once they figure out it isn't. So, what all this is leading to, pretty much, is that naquada=seastone, and devil fruit users have like a natural defense against implantation due to the whole "the sea rejects them thing". When the Goa'uld were there, they were basically set upon by fucking strong, tough people with special abilities who were immune to implantation and proceeded to kick a whole lot of ass (this could be the beginning of how the Jackal and the Falcon became Arabasta's guardian spirits; the leaders of the Arabastian section of the fighting). This is part of the Blank History, which is why no one knows anything about the Goa'uld or anything like that. ... Forgot where I was going with this. Well, anyway, general hijinks I can see happening are: [Points 1 and 2 removed ‘cause I don’t really care about them anymore.] 3) It probably wouldn't work into the storyline, but I really want to see a diplomatic party consisting of Vivi, Chaka, Pell, and Kohza (acting as the people's voice, donchaknow) going to the SGC. And the medical exam would show strange enzymes and things not associated with humans in Chaka and Pell's blood, which would be met with a, "Well, yeah," reaction. And then there would be an attack. And Chaka would use his half-beast form (Pell wouldn't, as his kinda requires room to fly and all) which would freak out the attacking Jaffa and then the four of them would kick more ass. And there would be possible implantation in either Chaka or Pell, but the Goa'uld would pretty much shrivel up and die from devil fruit-ness. And the SGC would start to realize just why the Goa'uld don't fuck with that world.

1. What is your favorite genre?

I’ll try pretty much any fiction, but I usually prefer mysteries or fantasy. I do read and have read a lot of “literature,” but I greatly prefer escapism.

2. How many books did you read this year?

According to Goodreads, 82 BUT a bunch of those are manga and at least 12 are individual chapters of manga that are released monthly, so that artificially boosted my count. I’ve actually been reading through old manga that I own that I haven’t read in years, and it’s fun, along with scoring free ebooks on Amazon and my library.

3. Favorite book of all time?

Aaah, this is impossible! Growing up, it was The Black Stallion, The Black Stallion Mystery and Man O’War by Walter Farley. As a teenager, it was the Dragonlance saga by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman and The Hunt for Red October by Tom Clancy. As a young woman, The Eye of the World by Robert Jordan. Then The Mummy Case by Elizabeth Peters and One For the Money by Janet Evanovich. The Discworld novels by Terry Pratchett. Now, I’m old and I just don’t know. I DO know that I’m more discriminating. I try a lot of free Kindle books on Amazon, and I’m teaching myself it’s OK to stop reading and delete one if it’s awful. And a lot are.

4. The book you never thought you would love but adore so much?

The Harry Potter series. A friend loaned me the first four forever ago, and I liked them and I got around to reading the rest eventually as they came out. I enjoyed them and cried at all the appropriate spots, but I didn’t really fall in love with them until this summer. I listened to all seven audiobooks while I was cleaning out houses, and they just blew me away. Not just her world-building and character-making, but her language and the style of her writing is just incredible. They sound really, really lovely read aloud, which isn’t always the case for a lot of novels. I’ve since re-listened to the first six and they only get better on repeat.

5. The book you thought you would love but ended up hating?

A Game of Thrones.

6. Your favorite book written in your mother tongue?

I feel very spoiled because I can only speak and read English and we have a lot of choices.

7. The writer you would die to meet?

The two writers I would most love to meet are dead—Sir Terry Pratchett and Elizabeth Peters. The other is J.K. Rowling. I wouldn’t be able to say anything; I would just want to sit there and bask in her presence (and hope some of her talent and genius would rub off onto me).

8. The TV/movie adaptation you hate?

I finally got around to watching the Harry Potter movies this fall, and wow, The Goblet of Fire was bad and not true to the spirit of the book at all.

9. The TV/movie adaptation you love with all your heart?

The Princess Bride! I didn’t care for the book, but maybe that was because I already had the movie memorized by the time I read it.

10. The book you wished was adapted on screen (with all the details in, all the right characters depiction, perfect settings…do I need to go on?)

I would LOVE to see The Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan done on premium cable. There is plenty of material in 14 completed books, a cast of a thousand characters, all the sex and violence you can shake a stick at. It would be a challenge, but if they could get it right and all the right actors and special effects, it would be AMAZING.

11. Which book would you recommend to your best friend?

I have recommended Elizabeth Peters’ Amelia Peabody Emerson series to so many people. I love it, especially the early books, with all my heart. Lately, I’ve been recommending Howard of Warwick’s novels. He’s a self-pub author on Amazon, and his books literally crack me up. They’re a touch of Terry Pratchett mixed with Monty Python, and I don’t know, his sense of humor strikes me perfectly (y’all know I’ve got a terrible sense of dad humor). He has a series about a medieval monk, Brother Hermitage, who accidentally becomes the King’s Investigator (he literally coins the term “Investigator” from the Latin...it’s a running joke) and the hijinks that occur as he walks around England trying to avoid having to solve murders. He’s accompanied by Wat the weaver who would probably still be able to make a fortune weaving his dirty porno tapestries. Howard really manages to mix in a lot of historical fact and show how everyday life was in 1066 along with the crazy antics of Hermitage and company.

12. Do you read fanfic? If yes, in which fandom?

Moi? Fanfic? What is this fanfic of which you speak? >_>

Hehehe, if I’m interested in a movie or show, I usually got to AO3 right after I watch it and see about fic. I subscribe to a bunch of favorite authors in so many fandoms. And there are the old anime/manga fandoms that I think about once or twice a year and check in on. Last night, it was Bleach.

13. Which is your favorite fanfic of all times?

I LOVE the writer daegaer on LJ! Everything that she writes—regardless of whether I know the source material or not—is brilliant. I always rank her among my top authors of all time. Her Weiss Kreuz stuff is about 1000 times better than that anime ever was. She is just the writer I will always aspire (and fail) to be!

14. Which wonderful (fanfic) writer did you discover this year?

I’ve gotten to know more DVD writers which is so exciting! :D

Amelia Peabody and Radcliffe Emerson FOREVER

17. What are you reading currently?

I’m still trying to get through The Sword and the Dragon by M.R. Mathias (it’s my third try, and I really want to like it because there’s a ton of potential but argh this author tries to weave too many characters and too many subplots and it’s super-confusing. I’m 35% in, and if I can’t get through it this time, I give up.) Also, I just started the manga series Tactics, one of my favorites that I own and I haven’t re-read in years. It’s a lovely story with really beautiful art.
