1.26.21 Lunchtime drawing: The White Horse Tavern on Hudson St. In the West Village, one of the oldest bars in NYC, with a little snow. The last time I was inside was a few years ago at the close of a Literary West Village themed walk-and-draw tour I led, closing with Dylan Thomas at this establishment.

Dear Seattle/Sly Withers/TOWNS @TheOldBar

The Old Bar is a special place in the Melbourne music scene for it is designed to build an intimate experience within a confine space. The crowd can get up close and personal to the music and immerse themselves with the lyrics while moving shoulder to shoulder with their mates. Dear Seattle’s “Maybe” Single Launch at the Old Bar was just the night to represent this as it had people lining up and getting cosy for what was the “Gatho of the Year.” 

With the Adelaide boys TOWNS opening the night with their beautifully moody tunes and having the crowd clapping along with them to the F.R.I.E.N.D.S theme song, The Sly Withers boys followed up to show the crowd how Western Australia slams their jams with head bangers “Google Maps” and “Closer.”  But once the clock struck 11:30pm, the Dear Seattle boys brought it home playing tunes from their debut Ep, new songs such as their new heart-wrenching single “Maybe”. This had fans swarming the Old Bar with their drinks and screaming the words while packing on top from the stage dives.

Dear Seattle have a special connection with the crowd. Not only with their cut throat lyricism, Aus Rock tonality and their on stage presence translation. But  their classic old mate personalities that had fans warming up in the pit, chanting back their thoughts after lead singer Brae mentioned a title change to a song once called “Dr Phil” for their upcoming debut album. 

It was a night of community and mateship where Melbourne fans got to witness rising rock talent from around Australia, shouting lyrics to songs about the heart aches and hurdles in life along, while smiling at one sharing the good vibes together. 

Only with a weeks notice about a surprise headline show and their new single “Maybe”, hinting an upcoming debut album. Fans like myself can’t help but feel excited to witness the potential the Dear Seattle boys have for their future endeavours.

This little man is commonly called a Christmas Beetle, his correct name is Anoplognathus. He is a native Australian member of the scarab family that you only see around December hence the name Christmas Beetle. We saw these in Old Bar (NSW).

Ce petit bonhomme est communément connu sous le nom de scarabée de Noël, son vrai nom est Anaplognathus. C'est l'un des scarabées qu'on ne trouve qu'en Australie de l'Est, et seulement en Décembre d'où le surnom Scarabée de Noël. Il a été trouvé à Old Bar.
