my mom introduced Signed, Sealed, and Delivered to me as a cheesy feel good Hallmark. I stayed for all the autistic coded characters.

So I was talking to Carrie Coon today (well, I was talking at Carrie Coon, more truthfully) and she was talking about how every so often she'll get someone tweet at her "I like your acting, but you should really keep your mouth shut" [regarding politics]. And after my outrage at what a monumentally moronic thing that is to say to anyone died down, I was like "Can you imagine the absolute shitstorm that would follow if some entitled American dipshit told an actor like Richard Harris 'I like your acting, but you should really keep your mouth shut'?" Like, that idiot would open the door and standing there'd be Harris, Peter O'Toole, Richard Burton, and Oliver Reed, all brandishing steel pipes and soused to the gills.

Spending my night watching interviews with the four great hellraisers: Reed, Harris, O'Toole and Burton.
Say what you will about them but they were all great storytellers and very sexy.

OP who would YOU smash who are your Hollywood picks?
Ooooh! SOOOO many, dear anon! (Why do you think I started this blog? 😉)
Let me give you a small - well, I say small... - cross-section:
Tumblr media
Row 1: Leslie Howard, my forever fave; Jimmy Stewart; as you can probably tell from the profile picture and header of this blog, I have a thing for Gene Kelly; I always say that the ultimate bisexual experience is watching "High Society" and not knowing whether you fancy Grace Kelly or Bing Crosby (that voice!) more, so there they both are; and to finish out the first row we have the gorgeous Jane Russell.
Row 2: Starting off with the dangerously flirty Robert Hardy; following it up with the four great hellraisers Richard Burton; Peter O'Toole; Richard Harris and Oliver Reed; and a woman who's starred with all four, Vanessa Redgrave.
Row 3: Sid James, the man with the filthiest laugh in films; the delicious Ava Gardner; the "Sound of Music" couple that wasn't to be Christopher Plummer and Eleanor Parker; the divine Alain Delon; and another great Frenchman, Serge Gainsbourg.
Row 4: The Swedish row: Harriet Andersson; the brilliant director Ingmar Bergman, this man's understanding of women is truly remarkable; Max von Sydow; Georg Funkquist, one of Sweden's great character actors; Jarl Kulle my beloved; Eva Dahlbeck.
Row 5: The Norwegian row: Anne-Lise Tangstad; Rolf Søder, the man with a laugh that nearly rivals Sid James's; Per Sunderland who has a voice that does things to me; Knut Wigert who is one of the most sensual men I've ever come across; Arne Aas; Ingerid Vardund.
Row 6: Jack Nicholson, he always had it never lost it; Ann-Margret; Robert Redford, I saw him in "The Great Gatsby" when I was 12 and that was it; Alan Bates, we love a bisexual king!; David Hemmings; Anna Quayle.
Thank you for such a fun question!

At the time of its release, Midnight Cowboy was rated X (later reclassified as R) with 31 year old Dustin Hoffman playing a dying man, just two years after his portrayal of a college graduate. A bit jarring to watch back to back. It also stars Mr. Sir himself, Jon Voight.
The National Society of Film Critics had very mixed reviews on Midnight Cowboy. Collectively, they seemed to praise both Hoffman and Voight, but reject the overall premise and direction.
I'm still not sure about it. I enjoyed watching it - to an extent - but looking back I don't consider it to have a cohesive enough storyline to illicit any sort of strong emotion. Do I really feel anything for these two? It's nice to look at, and the acting is as good as they say, but that's about it. The critics were harsh about it, so I won't be. Some people really enjoy it!
Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid also boasted a strong cast not only from dynamic duo Robert Redford and Paul Newman, but also from former The Graduate star Katharine Ross.
While this one is listed as a drama/western, I also can't help but consider this one to be a comedy. It's much lighter than Midnight Cowboy, and it's not dripping with plot.
The score is nice, which is helpful when there's an entire montage of 1890s style photography of the cast and scenes with no dialogue. The quality is high enough that it's enjoyable just watching the outdoor scenes and the horses ride around.
I could not get an original review for this one, but I was able to pull some quotes on its future success in a book about 1960s film.
With two wins for its music, Butch Cassidy beat out Midnight Cowboy by one Oscar, becoming the most decorated film of the night. Dustin Hoffman and Jon Voight were up against Richard Burton and Peter O'Toole for Best Actor, all losing to John Wayne. Both films were awarded heavily at the BAFTAs, as Midnight Cowboy fell under the 23rd ceremony and Butch Cassidy the 24th. They both also took home a Grammy and a WGA award. Unofficial Review: Midnight Cowboy was an interesting choice by the Academy. Coming off Oliver! the year prior, I'm curious why Midnight Cowboy was heavily on their minds. Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid seems a better choice, and I enjoyed it more.

There is NO Return-to-Sender on this one! Hallmark Mystery took to its Social Media last night to officially announce/deliver the exciting news ALL POstables (Signed, Sealed, Delivered fans) have been waiting for: "#POSTABLES, WE'RE BACK!" I captured the image above as soon as I saw it, and I may have squealed with excitement!
Hallmark shared this wonderful news with the image (above) of the main Signed, Sealed, Delivered cast - Eric Mabius, Crystal Lowe, Kristin Booth, and Geoff Gustafson - from the movie Signed, Sealed, Delivered: Home Again, and I must say, the series truly is returning to its Hallmark home - once again!
The last Signed, Sealed, Delivered film, Signed, Sealed, Delivered: The Vows We Have Made, was released in 2021, so it's been a long hiatus. Will the cast pick up where they left off—immediately after Oliver and Shane were married—or will time have gone by since then? Ironically enough, only time will tell. Certainly, there will be some changes; even the channel SSD premieres on has changed, from Hallmark Movies & Mysteries to Hallmark Mystery!
Fans took to Social Media with the best enthusiastic responses to this news:

'"Oppenheimer" is huge. It's one of Christopher Nolan's most massive movies, a sprawling epic that covers the life and times of J. Robert Oppenheimer, father of the atomic bomb. The film spans several years of Oppenheimer's life, zeroing in on specific time periods — specifically the lead-up to the building of the bomb, and then the aftermath when Oppenheimer's career was destroyed due to his leftist leanings. As I wrote in my review, "Christopher Nolan's 'Oppenheimer' is nothing short of extraordinary. In what might be his magnum opus, Nolan has meticulously crafted a biopic that feels like a thriller. He's also managed to find a way to make 3 hours of people sitting in rooms talking at each other downright exciting."
Like all movies, "Oppenheimer" draws on films that came before it. It owes a debt or two to Oliver Stone's "JFK," in how it's a star-studded, 3-hour epic about grave decisions, and Nolan has cited Andrei Tarkovsky's "Mirror" as an inspiration, too. And Nolan isn't the only one drawing on other works. His star Cillian Murphy also turned to films for inspiration. Per the Independent, when it came time to make the movie, Murphy watched two specific movies as research. This was all part of Murphy's process to "connect with and find the truth" of his character.
Lawrence of Arabia
The first film on Murphy's list: David Lean's massive 1962 epic "Lawrence of Arabia." The film stars Peter O'Toole as T. E. Lawrence and follows his journey uniting Arab tribes during World War I. It's often held up as one of the best movies ever made, and it covers a huge amount of ground in its lengthy runtime. As Roger Ebert wrote, "For a movie that runs 216 minutes, plus intermission, 'Lawrence of Arabia' is not dense with plot details. It is a spare movie in clean, uncluttered lines, and there is never a moment when we're in doubt about the logistical details of the various campaigns."
Murphy says he watched "Lawrence of Arabia" "in terms of the scale and the life-story aspect," and that makes a lot of sense. Like "Oppenheimer," "Lawrence of Arabia" is a biopic that doesn't really feel like a traditional biopic. It's not a cradle-to-the-grave story, but rather a glimpse into a period in the life of its main character. Nolan takes a similar approach to "Oppenheimer," zeroing in on specific times in Oppenheimer's life rather than telling his complete life story.
Amadeus
The second movie Murphy watched: "Amadeus," Miloš Forman's 1984 film about the death of Mozart. The film is heavily fictionalized and focuses primarily on F. Murray Abraham's Antonio Salieri, a composer who is fiercely jealous of Mozart's talents, which Salieri sees as divine. He loathes that Mozart is better than him, and his insecurities drive him mad to the point that he plots to destroy Mozart. The rivalry between the two men is played up by having Salieri working to sabotage Mozart while Mozart remains blissfully, tragically unaware.
If you've seen "Oppenheimer," you can probably guess why Murphy watched this film. The rivalry between Mozart and Salieri mirrors the rivalry between Oppenheimer and Lewis Strauss, played by Robert Downey Jr. Strauss offers Oppenheimer a job early in the film, and the two appear to be colleagues on friendly terms. But a perceived slight from Oppenheimer burns at Strauss for years and causes him to sabotage Oppenheimer's career late in life, just as Salieri targeted Mozart. As Murphy put it, he watched "Amadeus" "because of Salieri and Mozart, that kind of competitive relationship."
The one-two punch of "Lawrence of Arabia" and "Amadeus" can be seen reflected in "Oppenheimer," be it through the film's sprawling nature or its story about a bitter rivalry between two men. No wonder Murphy turned to these movies for inspiration.'

The Signed, Sealed, Delivered fandom is super small here on tumblr dot com, because it mainly exists on twitter, but if anyone wants to join the small fandom here, @anextraordinarymuse and I would love to chat with you!
We started one of those chat things you can join and we'd love for you to come on over and talk with us about all things SSD!
(I suck at being a hype person because I believe if something is good enough, it'll sell itself. So please just join us on our chat because there's no other place on this site for Postables to talk.)
