My casting of the Queens! Yes, I know...most of these are from the House of the Dragon/Game of thrones world, but I just think they'd be perfect. So, my casting as follows, respective of the images in order left to right, top to bottom.

Quick broadway cast change costume update

Both @six-costume-refs have been too busy to do a proper breakdown of the broadway costumes. But this is a returning cast so it is mostly updates which means we can keep it short.

In general the broadway costumes are a mix of Aragon tour and new pieces with some being replaced during the tour and some for broadway. There is a solid amount of guessing in here. Some things seem to be new but made from the same patterns as the tour costumes. And some things (sleeves, underlayers) there is no way to be sure whether those are new or old just from photos. Crowns and accesories are likely the same they had on tour as those get very little wear compated to costumes. Also in theory they should all have new boots. In general queens who stay for a second contract get new pairs after about a year so following that pattern the broadway cast should be getting new boots.

Khaila Wilcoxon: Khaila has a new costume. Looks like it was made from a new pattern, top and belt shape are slightly different and skirt is longer. She has either her tour wig restyled or a new wig with the same curl pattern as the old one. Wig is styled with two braids on top pulling the hair back and less volume than her tour style.

Storm Lever: Storm seems to be wearing her old costume. She has a new wig. Straight hair like her tour wig but longer and looks thicker.

Jasmine Forsberg: Jasmine has a new corset, it is shorter on the sides and has a more pronounced point in front, and cups are a slightly different shape. Recent JKNYC dresses have been looser over the hips, Jasmine still has the more fitted style which says its likely her tour dress or a new dress with the old pattern. Her wig could be new or the old restyled. She has a side part, styled bangs and curls like she did on tour. But bangs have less volume and curls are tighter and in smaller clumps.

Olivia Donaldson: Olivia has what looks like a new costume made from the same pattern as the original with minimal alterations and bigger tabs. No clear photos of her pre reveal costume or leotard yet. If it is all new the sleeves might be repurposed from the tour costume. She also got a new wig and hairstyle with cornrows on the sides and curls with red highlights on top. An interesting detail is that she switched from black and silver makeup which US casts did previously to red and silver which was introduced in late 2022.

Didi Romero: Didi has a new skirt and leotard with either her tour top or a new top made from the same pattern. Her ponytail looks new too.

Gabriela Carrillo: Gabi has a new top and either her tour peplum (likely) or a new one made from the same pattern as her tour one. No way to be sure on the pants. She has a new wig with highlights she didn't have before and a variation of the current back ponytail Parr style. She has a french braid in one side and a dutch braid on the other as introduced in the canadian cast, but instead of a high ponytail or loose waves she has a low ponytail mirroring her tour styles.

do you think that there’s any particular reason for some of the inconsistencies regarding new costume pieces for the Aragon queens on bway?

like olivia and gabriella got new wigs/styles, but khaila didn’t, even though aragon has arguably gone through more style changes than cleves/parr

and gabriella got a new crown but jasmine didn’t even though gabriella’s first parr crown looked more standardised to modern parr crowns than jasmines seymour crown does to modern seymour crowns

Honestly...I suspect it was just them taking advantage of the breadth of design changes that each Aragon Tour queen had had and choosing which they liked best.

The point of standardization is to make choices/decisions that can be consistently applied to a show. It would be really impractical for the creative team to come in and totally re-design wigs (etc) every time there's a cast change, so standardization allows for assoc teams to maintain the creatives' vision with each new cast member while allowing the creative team to move on to other projects. Most cast changes include actors who are totally new to Six, so they don't have any past designs for that actor and are (again) just altering current standardization to fit each queen. Sometimes they make bigger changes that may have required more approval from the original team (i.e. - Leandra's braids), but most often the changes made are fairly small and well within the scope of choices the assocs are expected to make (i.e. - specific wig shades).

However....because the new Broadway principals are all returning from Aragon Tour, they already had a whole history of styling choices that had been made for them (and often multiple changes, like all Gabriela's wig changes). Most of those decisions/designs were made at a point in time when Six was still solidifying some of their standardization choices (ie - they hadn't yet decided on the back pony for non-Black queens). The Aragon Tour designs were part of that figuring out standardization process/time period, and so as a result they probably had more direct influence from the original creatives + input from each individual actor on what they liked. When they got the news that the Aragon principals would be transferring to Broadway, I think they decided to just take advantage of that and keep around some of those unique elements. However, like you said, that means that quite a few of those designs don't match what is now current standardization. But I don't think it's specifically that they're ignoring standardization; I think it's more that the creative team just opted in to keeping some of the older designs for the cast that were already more individualized.

Seeing as in the 6 weeks after the Aragon Tour closed and there have been four returns, I am going to assess the possibility of the remaining queens’ returns.

VERY LIKELY

- Erin Ramirez: Back in the NYC area and recently performed at 54 Below. Could help provide coverage for Broadway with Ayla Ciccone-Burton having temporarily left for rehearsals for The Great Gatsby. They both covered Boleyn and Parr.

MAYBE

- Olivia Donalson: Unsure of upcoming gigs, appeared in NYC for Broadway Sings Acoustic on September 8th. Could help out on Boleyn Tour with Cleves coverage, but they seem to have it down pact right now.

- Courtney Mack: Never say never. Has expressed interest in playing Parr again. They likely would only have her back as Howard, but they definitely still have her costumes from when she was an Alternate around.

- Gabriela Carrillo: I’m not sure if I see it in the cards for right now. Sydney on the Boleyn Tour has incredible attendance and Taylor typically calls out once a week. Even without Ayla, Broadway still likely has it covered with Kristina, who seems to be their first cover for Parr anyway.

SOMEWHAT

- Storm Lever: currently in Europe on vacation. Leandra and Zan hardly ever call out as it is, and with Cassie rejoining, there is not a strong need for a Boleyn emergency cover.

- Didi Romero: In LA working on new projects, seems to be on some sort of tour? Has likely moved past this chapter, I don’t see her returning.

SLIM TO NONE:

- Natalie Paris: I know we joke about her never leaving but hear me out! She’s likely back in the UK preparing for the Pretty Woman UK Tour, which leaves her in this category.

- Jasmine Forsberg: Currently in Here Lies Love on Broadway. Never say never, as it is Six we’re talking about, but I feel she has a low chance of returning any time soon.

Not Included:

- Kelly Denice Taylor: Joined Boleyn Tour to provide extra coverage with Aragon, Seymour and Cleves about a week after the Aragon Tour closed.

An opinion to be rated: The Uk Six boots are better than the US boots

While it is a small detail, The UK (and Australia and possibly NCL) boots in my opinion are 10x better. The US (and Canada) boots look like it has tape on it for the big silver buttons/gems on "base" (the black part of the boot), where as the UK has little rhinestones on the "base" (Which are in the same colors as the heels and the straps for the principals and super swings, and the heels for the alternates). The boot by itself (so no rhinestones/buttons/whatever) is the same as they're both made by LaDuca but I don't like the difference in materials for the boot itself from the heels and the straps.

Also I get that Six in the UK has a crystalizer who does the rhinestones for their boots, while I think the US has LaDuca themselves do it, but I think they should do the same as the UK (whether or not they use the same person)

While the UK knee high boots also have what looks like tape, I feel it is way less noticeable compared to the US and has the smaller and multicolored rhinestones. and i couldn't find any US Cleves short boots (as all of them were alternate boots), but they look the same as the other US boots (just red and white/silver).

Because the Alts wear the same pair of boots for all their covers, the heels of the boots are not colored like the queens (the straps are interchangeable for their costumes), the UK has a light gray/silver (to me the better option) and the US has a darker gray (which in some photos/videos makes it look black/nothing there at all). and then obviously I think the rhinestones look better than what the US has.

I had a feeling Khaila would be taking over as Aragon but I wasn’t expecting the WHOLE TOUR CAST. I saw the cast 2.0 and they were absolutely phenomenal. I’m so excited to them next summer. Especially Jasmine and Didi since I just missed them and I’ve heard nothing but great things about them.

I was literally crying yesterday morning when I saw the news. The Aragon tour cast is one of my favorites ever! Great voices, great comedic timing, great chemistry as a cast and both reviews and audience comments agree that they are all great and there is no weak link in that cast. (Also gabi is in my header which says a lot about what I think about her). Sucks a little that none of the alts are joining them full time but most of them have been back with the show in some capacity recently which is really nice to see.

And last week @sixcostumerefs and I were talking about the possibility of someone from ANAT joining the broadway cast. And we both agreed that Khaila felt very likely (I think most of the fandom expected her to join bway 2023-24). Jasmine was bound to happen eventually but we didn't think it would be this year because she is currently in Here Lies Love. Olivia and Didi wouldn't be surprising to see. Same with Storm and Gabi but they would need the right cast as neither is the typical casting for their roles (love quiet but cheeky boleyn and mom friend parr but they need the right energy from the rest of the queens). Guess it was the most right cast for all of them.

misc six observations:

the pantages is the most gorgeous theater i’ve ever been in (not that i’ve been in many but u know)

it’s also along the walk of fame and kirsten chenoweth’s star is right by the door (lena horne's is just across the street)

they didn’t advertise my show as accessible but it was open-captioned and asl-interpreted (but it looks like both things were only viewable to ppl seated on the left side)

an old couple next to me were trying to figure out which “chopin composition” the pre-show music was? (they’re all piano covers of pop songs) v confused

the “queen bios” in the playbill list aragon’s interests as “religion, sewing, dancing, and a bit more religion”, boleyn’s says she’s remembered for “headlessness”. parr’s talks about her friendship w mary and that her mom was LIW to some previous wives, but makes no mention of the fact that aragon was her godmother(/namesake) or that she married seymour’s brother

the minute greensleeves started playing, people started cheering. it was so fun

khaila was born to play aragon that's all im saying. literally nonstop applause until the dluh intro

storm's boleyn tiptoed that line between "idk what's going on" and "smart and cunning" so so well

cleves did the ponytail-pull instead of seymour? idk if this is a recent change but it has Interesting implications characterization-wise lmao also it was just funny because olivia had to significantly reach up to get to courtney's hair

speaking of which, both nat and cmack's new wigs look a lot fancier than their old ones somehow

im pretty sure nmp actually started crying during hos (which, even though i've heard her sing it a million times, was every bit as beautiful as i thought it would be)

hoh live is an Experience in the best way, they just looked like they were having the best time bouncing around the stage

the audience member picked for get down was so good/confident olivia cheered for her the entire time instead of doing the "this is my song" bit after shfghjkl

get down is already such a lively song but olivia's version amps it up even more like i was in stitches during the intro and the entire audience was fired up by the end

the k-howard roast didnt get as many laughs as it should've :// i felt so bad for courtney because she delivered those lines flawlessly

and then loud and immediate applause after aywd??? L audience tbh

(also interesting note – the asl interpreter didn’t sign for applause after the song like she did for all the others)

natalie's "I DIED" was every bit as amazing as all the audios. also she basically chased khaila offstage while saying that line sdkf

i think gabriela is my new favorite parr im so obsessed w her take on idnyl and her acting (even in the background) is impeccable

there were some obvious mic issues – both cmack and storm were a bit quieter than everyone else and khaila was way louder; all three of them left the stage at various points for unknown reasons (but there wasn't a show stop and i dont think most people noticed someone missing)

this cast's chemistry was i n s a n e like the little interactions and they way they reacted to each other plus the harmonies…10/10 no notes

speaking of which. there was a really sweet moment toward the end of idnyl ("why should i tell that story?") where aragon puts her hand on howard's knee comfortingly

standing ovation after six!!! idk if this is a regular occurrence but they bowed an extra time because of all the clapping lol

except then people started leaving, so courtney had to start the megasix early and you could barely hear her over the audience

but it was ok cuz people stayed on their feet throughout the megasix too and again the girls took a really long time leaving the stage after bc the cheers kept getting louder!!!

tldr i had the BEST time and if the tickets weren’t so expensive id go again and again <3
