A/N: I had originally wanted the sharing a coat to be different but I couldn’t get it to fit so I modified it a tad.

“Couldn’t he have waited until it was warmer outside?” Drake grumbles, if anything he’s gotten grumpier with the passing years.

“I don’t think he purposefully had our grandson in October.” Liam shakes his head; his husband could be so one-track minded at times. “What happened to my outdoorsy man?”

Drake rolls his eyes; those years were long behind him. His once dark brown hair was now mostly gray, frown lines deep across his forehead and a strong desire to sit in his chair watching TV instead of being outside in the cold.

“Grandpa!” A little red-haired boy comes running over to Liam who scoops him up in his arms and kisses his cheek as he says, “Ollie”.

The boy giggles before he presses his forehead to Liam’s, it was Ollie or Oliver’s way of saying ‘I love you’.

“What’s wrong with Pop Pop?” Ollie asks, frowning as he looked over at Drake.

“He’s just getting old!” Liam runs his fingers through his graying hair, to everyone’s surprise the monarch’s hair hadn’t grayed as much as his husband’s. Drake refuses to believe that Liam doesn’t secretly dye his hair. “Liam Rys!” Drake snaps, causing the other two to laugh.

“There you are. You scared me, Ollie.” James sighs, taking the six-year old from Liam’s arms.

James grew up into Liam’s twin through and through with just enough of Leo’s rebellious ways to explain how he ended up with Bella Nevrakis, daughter of Olivia Nevrakis. The two had just welcomed their second son, Alexander which called for royal family photo release; the current source of Drake’s irritation.

Ollie couldn’t decide if he wanted to sit on Grandpa or Pop Pop’s lap so they had to do some of each, Alexander being just two weeks old wasn’t a fan of the cold and Olivia refused to have a picture taken on her bad side.

When it’s finally over, Drake tries to bolt as quickly as he can back in but Ollie stops him.

“Pop Pop.” “Mm?” He’s colder than he’ll admit, he was so irritated when Liam said they were going outside he refused to grab a coat saying he didn’t need one.

Ollie reaches his arms up signaling for Drake to pick him up and once he does, he presses his forehead to his Pop Pop’s. Drake immediately relaxes, pressing slightly back against his grandson as if saying ‘I love you more’.

*                      * Drake and Liam wave as James, Bella and their sons head back to Applewood leaving the royal couple alone. The wind blows sharply, wrapping around Drake and causing him to shiver. As if on cue, Liam shrugs his coat off draping it around Drake’s shoulders.

“You’ll get cold.” Drake states, even after all these years Liam’s gestures still get to him.

“I wore layers,” he smirks. “Like I told you too.”

Drake mutters something to himself before slipping his arms in the sleeves and shoving his hands in the pockets. He raises an eyebrow with he feels something almost sharp poke his finger and then realizes there’s a hole in the pocket. He digs around before pulling out a small polaroid, one from those more modern cameras. The corners were worn and slightly discolored, but it held up well through the years.

“What’s that?” Liam looks over his shoulder and smiles, “Remember that day?”

“How could I forget?”

Drake had the whole thing planned and then the weather decided it should snow. He couldn’t believe it, honestly things couldn’t get worse.

They did.

When he finally got back to the palace from his dad’s old cabin, he was informed by a maid, not his boyfriend, that Liam would be on a conference call until whenever. Today was just chalking up to be the worst day of Drake’s life.

It was close to 2am by the time Liam crept into his room, a half sleeping Drake on his bed. Liam smiled, that was his favorite Drake; his peaceful expression and not to mention how husky his voice sounded.

“Drake? Drake? Wake up.” Liam softly shook his shoulder.

“Liam? What?”

“Come with me.” Liam pulled him up to his feet and handed him his coat. He then dragged him outside to the middle of the apple orchard.

“Li, what are we doing out here?” He looked around, annoyed.

“Drake Thomas Walker.”

Any amount of sleep that was in his body was completely gone. There was no way Liam had been planning the same thing. He couldn’t let Liam beat him.

“Lia-“

“I love you.”

Drake looked at his boyfriend, his boyfriend who was always one step ahead of him. He shook his head as he pulled him in for a kiss, hearing a click just before he pulled back. Liam and that damned camera.

“You know, I was going to tell you I love you that night first.” “Oh, were you?” Liam questions, unconvinced his husband just isn’t a sore loser.

“I had it all planned. Candle lit dinner at the cabin, that retched camera nowhere in sight, but like always you were one step ahead.” Liam pulls Drake into a chaste kiss, “If it wasn’t for my retched camera, we wouldn’t have that memory. Or this one.”

Drake grumble something Liam doesn’t catch as they walk back inside the palace, rubbing his thumb gently over the photograph. Maybe the cold weather wasn’t so bad, it did after all hold all his favorite memories.

It has been a long hiatus, though to me it didn’t seem to be one. Time flies. June and July have flied by so fast, and I can’t keep up, shit things happening one after the other, and I’m still coping… But it’s a process. I’m functioning now enough to write and interact on this blog.

lia was laying on her bed, staring at the ceiling. three weeks had passed since she made the bet with ollie, and unless he had an epiphany and realized he was in love with her overnight, she had lost. 

she didn't really care about losing the dare, but she had focused so much on trying to get ollie to fall for her, that she didn't really think much about how he was the only thing on her mind.

she had given up. not that she was doing anything special, if he fell in love, he would have to fall for the real her. anyways, she was done.

three days ago, when she realized that she was, infact, in love with oliver bearman, it hit her. hard. she didn't want to keep fueling the feeling, so she started ignoring him. -as much as she could with him being absolutely everywhere she went.-  she didn't even call quits on the game, she just stopped.

lia was pulled out of her thoughts when her phone buzzed. she ignored the first one. but at the second buzz she felt obligated to check it. her heart stopped when she read ollie's name on the top. she opened it immediately.

her heart raced when she stood up from her bed. she looked in the mirror, not giving much thought into her outfit. sweatpants and a hoodie, it wasn't anything special, but she didn't really care with everything that was going on in her head.

she climbed through her window and her breath hitched when she saw he was already sitting there, his back facing her.

“my window is on the other side, dumbass” she joked, trying to calm her nerves. he turned to face her, and he looked so good under the moonlight that she wanted to scream. “hi” he smiled softly, and her desire to scream only increased. “hi” she returned the smile, and they just stared at each other for a second.

“so, what did you want to talk about?” his smile faded a little bit before speaking “uhm, i just really wanted to- i mean- you like- i don't know-” he seemed on the verge of having a mental breakdown, and she was not having it “hey, breathe, take your time” she said. 

her hand instinctively went up to caress his cheek softly. he closed his eyes, leaning into her palm and taking a breath. when he opened his eyes, the intensity of them scared her “why are you ignoring me?”

 he had sounded so hurt that she felt like dying “what?” she only muttered “you've been ignoring me for three days.” the girl was so baffled that she didn't know what to answer “no, i haven't” she realized her hand was still on his cheek and removed it as fast as possible, immediately missing the feeling of his cold skin. 

“yes you have. today, at the race. you went with arthur -who by the way, got second- instead of me, who actually won.” he sounded upset, and if she didn't know better, she would say he sounded jealous.

 “everyone went to you, ollie” she tried to come up with an excuse “but you didn't, why?” the boy’s eyes seemed to stare into her soul “can i not support my friend?” the girl was still trying to push the excuse. 

she looked down, avoiding his gaze. now she was the one on the verge of a mental breakdown. “you know that's not it, remember rule one.” rule one was complete honesty, always. she knew he wasn't going to let her go until she was honest with him. “i partially won, you know?”

now he was confused “what?” she breathed before looking back at him. she had one more week with him, and she wasn't going to ignore him anymore.

 “you didn't fall for me, but i fell for you. i didnt choose to, for fucks sake, i didnt even realize. but i fell for you, hard, and i spent the last three days trying to make it disappear but i can't. because you're in my head every second of the day, you should pay rent at this point.” she finished with a deep breath and took a second to prepare for rejection. 

there were a few seconds of silence, which she imagined were him trying to get the words to reject her. “you didn't partially win” he said “hey, i know i lost but at least give me the partial win, no?” she tried to laugh to not cry.

 “thats not what i meant, listen!” he laughed “yeah, sorry” she laughed softly “i realized a few days ago, but then you started ignoring me, so i thought you just didn't care anymore. and today, seeing you run to arthur instead of me made me so mad that i had to ask you what it was about. i had no plan on actually telling you, but then you show up wearing my hoodie and i had to tell you before its too late. you won, i'm completely and bone crushingly in love with you. like the type of in love in which i think about your stupid lips, or your long eyelashes and it makes me smile. what kinda gay shit is that? i don't even know, but the worst part is that it doesn't bother me. i like it, even.”

her heart stopped beating for a second, as she realized what he was saying. “you're in love with me?” she couldn't believe it. “yes, very much” ollie let out a small, nervous laugh that made lias heart melt. 

“well, that's unexpected” she was still processing the new information “how? you've literally spent the last month trying to make me fall in love with you?” he looked at her with furrowed eyebrows and a humoristic look in his eyes “oh shut up, i didn't know if it would actually work!” 

they were both smiling like idiots at each other. they stayed like that for a few moments, before the boy leaned in and kissed her. his hand went straight up to the side of her face, holding her more firmly as she started kissing back. they watched the sunrise that way, stealing kisses and cuddles on the rooftop.

the next morning, lia woke up on her bed. she didn’t really remember how she got there after her talk with ollie.

 ollie.  

the thought of him made her smile. she lazily stood up, brushing her teeth and going to the bathroom before going out of her room. 

funny enough, ollie came out of his room at the same time. he smiled at her, one of those smiles that made her the happiest she could be.

“woww, good afternoon, love birds. you both look like shit” jaks voice took them out of their trance. “love birds?” ollie asked, lauging faintly at his friends antics.

 “yeah. anyways, next time you guys want to have a dramatic love confession on the roof, maybe dont go directly next to my window? i was trying to sleep.” a smile formed into jaks lips when both teenagers went red as tomatoes.

two days after the dare was placed, lia found herself sitting at one of prema’s garages, headphones on while watching some f3 practice runs.

she had been trying to think about how she was going to approach ollie to win the dare. for it to be an actual win, he had to fall in love with her, not any fake personalities. she was just going to act normal, flirt with him and hope for that to be enough.

just as she decided that, aurora walked into the garage. she talked to a few engineers momentarily before walking towards lia. “hello” she waved, making lia smile at her. they decided to head out to the cafeteria and eat something before the boys joined them.

they talked about everything and anything. aurora told her the story of how she found out that paul liked her back and they had a weird more-than-friends-but-not-dating situation and she didn't know how to approach him about it, it was even weird to talk to him as if they didn't hate each other a few months ago.

“how’s the dare going, by the way?” aurora asked, not wanting to talk more about herself. “well, i’ve known him for three days, so i can't really know what his reactions mean.” lia sighed, moving a strand of her short hair off her face. “oh! i’ve got an idea!” aurora said excitedly, making lia raise her eyebrows “i know ollie like the palm of my hand, flirt with him and i’ll see how he reacts!” it might have been a questionable idea, but at that moment it sounded like the best idea someone had ever had.

later on, when ollie and jak entered the cafeteria, the two girls saw it as the perfect opportunity. “hey jak, can you help me find paul?” aurora asked the younger driver, giving him a look that immediately notified him of the real purpose. “yeah, sure.” he agreed and they both stood up, leaving only to hide on a table far away, making sure that ollie didn't see them.

ollie cleared his throat, trying to ease the silence that sat in between them. “so… how was practice?” the girl asked “it was good. pablo told me you were watching me, actually.” he smiled at the faint blush that adorned her cheeks. “yeah.. i had to leave though, it was getting way too hot” she smirked. he quickly understood that she wasn't talking about the weather, which made his cheeks go red. she smiled smugly at this, making him roll his eyes at her look.

he wasn't going to let her win.

“i think that might be normal around you though, don't you think?” that broke her, she couldn't keep a straight face or help the rush of crimson that overtook her cheeks. she covered her face with her palms, making him laugh faintly.

aurora and jak observed the situation from afar. deciding that lia looked defeated enough, they both stood up and went back to the table. the pair blurted a random excuse about not finding paul and sat down. lia started speaking to jak almost immediately, clearly trying to change the current embarrassed energy that surrounded them.

a buzz from her phone made lia look at the screen.

lia couldn’t help but smile at the text. she shut her phone, sending a smile in auroras way before placing her attention back on the conversation the boys held.

discoveries and faint jealousy.

ollie, jak, paul, and dino sat next to a football field. they had just finished filming the wheelbarrow video, and were now waiting for arthur and dennis to finish so they could know who won. they talked while sometimes watching the two boys, laughing at how loud arthur naturally was.

their conversation circled back to the dare lia had proposed, making ollie the centre of the boy’s attention. “okay but question, do you lose if you like, kiss her?” dino asked. “i don't think so, it wouldn't mean you're in love with her” paul shrugged. “why would i kiss her in the first place?” ollie’s question sounded more defensive than it was supposed to, which made his friends laugh. “we know you think she’s hot. don't you want to know if she’s a good kisser as well?”

dino had a point. ollie would be lying if he said he hadn't wondered how it would feel to kiss her, but again, he didn't want to lose the dare.

“she is.” jak’s statement shocked everyone. “wait, what?” paul’s voice sounded as flabbergasted as his face proved him to be. jak laughed at their faces. “dude, me and lia have known each other for forever, we’ve made out a couple times.” he really didn't know if he should be offended or amused at how confused his friends were at the thought of him kissing lia.

ollie ignored the pang of jealousy he felt, deciding to focus on the confusion jak’s confession made him feel. hadn't they said they were almost like siblings?

“i thought you guys were like siblings?” he couldn't stop the words coming from his mouth, he just prayed he didn't sound as jealous as he was. “we are, but there was a summer when we were like 15 that we decided to see if we were actually ‘meant for each other’ like everyone said we were. shocker, we are not, we are just both talented kissers.” jak shrugged, looking directly into oliver’s eyes with a humorous smile.

“imagining you and lia making out just gives me the creeps” dino spoke, making an exaggerated disgusted face “i know, but it's kinda normal though. have you and aurora ever kissed?” jak looked at ollie with a raised brow. “i mean, once when we were like 5 because her older sister married us, and once in 7th grade for a dare” ollie’s eyes went to paul, fearing for murder to find him smiling to himself.

“you got more jealous than paul, that's just shameful” jak laughed, making ollie roll his eyes. “shut up… look they’re finished” ollie found salvation on arthur and dennis reaching the finish line.

ollie’s realisation.

lia sat in jak’s living room. it was the boy’s free day, and they were both sleeping late.

it was already 12:26p.m when ollie came out of his room, looking sleepy and with a bedhead. “morning, sleeping beauty” lia laughed at his sleepy smile, a fuzzy feeling growing inside of her at the sight. “morning” his hoarse voice made her heart skip a beat. “there’s food in the fridge, by the way” she smiled and turned back to her sketchbook after hearing his small ‘thanks.’

ollie sat on the couch in front of her, soaking in the way she looked while drawing. she looked relaxed. free.

“is the food good?” her voice snapped him out of his trance “yeah” her smile grew wider at his words. it was a simple avocado toast, but he liked it. “i thought i could make you food for once, since you always cook.” he smiled at her fondly.

she looked so proud of the fact that he liked her food that he promised himself to like everything she cooked from that point on. he could eat cardboard and love it if it meant he could see her smile that way.

since when was he willing to eat cardboard for her?

since when was he willing to eat cardboard for anyone, really?

he decided to ignore the thought, focusing on finishing his food as he watched her draw. “what are you drawing?” his curiosity got the best of him “nothing that concerns you” the girl stuck her tongue out at him, smiling mischievously. “wow, rude” ollie faked offence “but really, what is it?” he insisted, making her sigh “i’ll show you once i finish it, okay? pinky promise” 

she stuck her pinky finger towards him. his smile grew wider on his face as he laced their fingers together. lia brought her own hand to her lips and kissed it, maintaining eye contact in between them.

when did eye contact become so hot?

the boy repeated her actions, his brown eyes crashing against her green ones. her cheeks were overtaken by a faint crimson colour before she looked away, untangling their fingers and moving further back into the couch. they proceeded to have small conversations here and there until jak woke up, joining them and breaking the moment in between them.

a couple days later, when ollie had just gotten out of the shower, he noticed a strange paper situated on his desk. he picked it up and saw the most beautiful piece of art he had ever seen. it was a picture of him, looking to the side while wearing his fda shirt. he could only assume it was painted in watercolours, and damn, it was gorgeous.

as he held it closer to the light to see it better, he saw black ink on the other side of the paper. as he turned it around, he found a small note in lia’s handwriting.

i always fulfil my pinky promises, i hope you like it.

he stared at the art piece with a lovesick face for a couple seconds before realisation hit him. he had lost. he was completely and utterly in love with lia alfonso.

lia’s realisation

lia sat on the prema box during the f3 race. her headphones allowed her to listen to ollie’s radio.

he was leading the race and only had 5 laps left when he notified his engineer about the steering wheel filling funny. just as he was going into the box, he seemed to lose control of the car, as it hit a bump and spun into a wall.

a gasp left lia’s mouth as her heart stopped. her eyes filled with tears immediately as ollie didn't answer his engineers calls. “yeah, im okay.” she breathed hard, a wave of relief hitting her chest at the sound of his groggy voice.

oliver was brought back to the prema hospitality, where he was checked for any injuries before entering the room where lia was. the girl rushed to him, enveloping him in her arms, taking him by surprise. the surprise faded when he heard her quiet sobs, only to be replace with a warmth on his heart.

“im okay, love. im okay” he pressed her further into him, kissing the top of her head. “that was so scary” she whispered against his chest when her crying ceased. “i know, but im here and im okay, i promise” the boy whispered into lia’s hair. she separated lightly from him, holding her up her pinky. he laced his finger with hers, kissing his hand before she kissed hers to seal the promise.

when ollie pulled her in for another hug, she realised how scared she had been to the thought of losing him.

lia’s ticket was booked for august 31st. exactly a day after the deadline her and ollie had set for the dare.

it was now august 30th, and she was finishing packing her bags. ollie sat on the floor, staring at her until he noticed a tear running down her cheek. the girl tried to wipe it away before he noticed, but it was too late.

“love? are you okay?” ollie asked, standing up and walking towards her “im alright” she answered, continuing to put clothes in her suitcase without facing him. “are you sure? he pushed as he heard her sniffle “yes, ollie, i'm sure” lia pushed back, wiping her tears as she packed more aggressively. “lia, look at me. stop for a second” he took her hands in his, stopping her from grabbing anymore clothes.

ollie’s heart clenched at the sight of her face. her cheeks were wet with tears, her eyes red and her bottom lip quivered lightly. he didn't say anything and just hugged her, letting her sob into his chest.

“i don't want to leave, ollie” she cried, making his heart clench even more “i know, i don't want you to leave either” his hand weaved through her hair, trying to apeace her as much as he could.

he held her until she stopped crying, leaving her to do whatever he needed to do without leaving her side. when she excused herself to go to the bathroom, ollie thought of ways to have her stay. there were only two races left in the season, maybe her parents would let her stay? maybe they would let her go somewhere with him after it finished?

he would do whatever he could to convince them, but he needed jak’s help.

lia’s last day went by faster than she wanted it to, and she was now halfway to the airport.

she cuddled further into her boyfriend’s chest, wanting to be as close to him as possible. her eyes were tired from crying and she hadn’t slept much the night before. the last thing she felt before falling asleep was the faint kiss ollie left on her forehead.

at the airport, she stood with ollie, jak, aurora and paul, who had gone to say goodbye to her. their conversation was interrupted by the sound of her flight being called. lia’s heart clenched.

why did she have to leave? things with ollie had just started.

she hugged paul first, greeting the unexpected friend she had made. “take care of rora, and take care of yourself, okay?” she asked, looking at him with tears in her eyes. “of course, and you too. send me pictures of your food” he gave her a small smile and she noticed the glossiness in his eyes. she kissed his cheek before moving to aurora.

“i love you so much” aurora whispered after hugging her close to her body “i love you too, and i’ll see you soon, okay?” lia felt the other girl nod “take care of the boys, don't kill them” lia chuckled before breaking the hug.

she didn't even have the chance to turn before jak attacked her with a hug “im not letting you go, you can't leave again” he cried into her neck. lia’s heart clenched. she had thought about ollie so much that she didn't realise how painful it would be to leave her best friend “im sorry, i promise i’ll see you soon” she cried with him. “i’ll go visit you and steal you away, fuck school” jak said, making her chuckle lightly before pulling away. “call me whenever you need me, doesn't matter what time it is, i’ll answer” she assured. he kissed her forehead, giving her one last smile before pushing her towards ollie.

she smiled as she looked at him. he looked so pretty, even when crying. he returned his smile before hugging her tightly. “i love you, more than i’ve ever loved anyone else. i promise i’ll see you soon, and we’ll make it work even if i don't.” his words were barely whispers, meant only for her to hear “of course we will, i love you way too much to let you off that easily” she whispered back. they separated from the hug and pushed their lips together, sharing one last kiss before she had to leave.

“last call for flight #444, venice to buenos aires” the voice boomed from their speakers, letting her know it was time to go.

“i love you.” she whispered against his lips. “i love you too.” ollie copied her actions before pulling apart from her. lia waved at all of them, grabbing her bags and walking away towards the boarding area.

tears rolled off her cheeks as she went through security and walked her way to the plane. her phone buzzed in her hand, and her eyebrows furrowed as she saw her mom’s name on the screen.

her heart stopped as she read the message.

her heart beamed as she started running on the opposite way from the plane. she stopped next to the security guard to explain her situation frantically. lucky for her, the guard was nice and understood, letting her go.

once she was in the building once again, she looked around to see if she could find her friends. when she couldn't see them, she pulled her phone from her pocket and called ollie

“lia?” he answered, his voice full of confusion “ollie, where are you?” her voice scared him. she sounded like she had been running. “is everything alright?” she smiled at the worry in his voice “yeah, just tell me where you are” she looked around, trying to locate them again “uhm, we’re at the cafe next to the giant cardboard dolphin” he answered “okay, bye!” she cut the call off before running towards th delfin.

“ollie! jak!” she screamed. people looked at her weird, but she didn't care, she got to stay with her boys, and aurora of course. “lia?” ollie asked, confused. she let out a joyful laugh, jumping into his arms and almost making him fall over. “love, what are you doing here?” he was confused but he sounded happy. “my parents told me to stay!” she joyfully said. his smile grew wider as he hugged her closer and spun her around.

she was ripped away from ollie as jak brought it to her arms.

“hey, that’s my girlfriend!” ollie complained jockingly “but she’s my best friend!” jak stuck his tongue out at him and hugged her closer to him “stop, stop!” she laughed, squirming out of his arms. she swung her arms around aurora, kissing her cheeks loudly “she’s more important” they all laughed before going back to eating.

they got back into the car, and as she once again snuggled into her boyfriend's arms. “im so glad you stayed” he whispered into her hair “i am too” he kissed the top of her head “i love you” she lifted her chin, placing a kiss to his jaw. “i love you too.”

it was finally time for lia to see jak again. they had been best friends growing up, but she hadn't seen him since she moved back to her home country at 14. 

they kept in contact, of course, but they missed each other way too much. that's why as soon as they got a chance, jak flew her into italy to see him. he had to convince ollie to go with him to the airport at 4:30 in the morning, but he ended up going.

after approximately 21 hours of travel, in which she slept almost half way and done homework the other, lia finally arrived to venice. 

nervousness started to grow in her as she collected her luggage. what if jak just didn't like her anymore? would he be disappointed? 

she swallowed her nerves and walked towards the gate, where jak had said he was waiting for her. 

the girls eyes didn't meet jak’s first. they met a pair of dark brown eyes that seemed to call for hers. she noticed a small smile form on his lips before she averted her look towards jak.

“lia!” jak exclaimed, jogging to her before embracing her in the most bone crushing hug he had ever given her. “i missed you, feo” (ugly) she whispered softly, only for him to hear “i missed you too” he squeezed her one more time before letting her go.

 “this is ollie, i replaced you with him” lia rolled her eyes slightly before extending her hand towards him “lia alfonso, nice to meet you.” he took her hand in his “ollie-” “bearman, i know” she interrupted him. “shit lia, you stalking my friends now?” jak made fun of her “only the hottest ones” she winked at ollie, causing him go bright red.

when they arrived home like an hour later, she got settled into the guest room and took a hot shower before going to the living room where both boys awaited.

ollie was just sitting down on the couch, putting a tray with food on the table. “i made us breakfast, didnt know if you were hungry” he smiled shyly at her, he was adorable “i am, thank you” they had breakfast on the couch, catching up on things they had forgot to say over the phone or just telling random stories until ollie spoke “fuck, i forgot im going to lunch with aurora today!” 

a wave of disappointment swarmed lia’s mind, he had a girlfriend “i'll ask her if you guys can come with, i don't think she’ll mind though” he pulled out his phone to text her. “oh, that's fine! wouldn't want to ruin your date” she smiled, she really didn't. “oh no, she's  not my girlfriend” he denied “she's my best friend, beautiful girl, wouldn't touch her with a stick though” he scrunched his nose at the thought.

relief washed over her, and she smiled at how adorable he looked scrunching his nose “also paul would burn the stick and beat you with it” jak joked, making ollie laugh.

later that afternoon, the three teens pulled into a restaurant's driveway, getting off the car and walking in. they spotted aurora rapidly, as she was waving at them from a table. she was sitting next to a pretty attractive young guy, who stared at the girl sitting next to him in awe. 

“hi, im aurora!” she was extroverted and irradiated confidence. “im lia, nice to meet you.” she smiled back, matching -or at least trying- her energy. 

“im paul, hi” the blonde introduced himself “oh hi, burnt any sticks on the way here?” she said, laughing lightly at her own joke and his confused face. he looked even more confused when the other to boys laughed as well. “stupid joke, sorry” she apologized, taking a seat next to jak.

they had a very enjoyable lunch talking about random stuff and sharing stories of when aurora and ollie were kids or when jak and lia were kids. at some point, lia couldn't exactly tell you when, the conversation circled to the subject of love.

 “i think that you can somewhat choose who you love, though,” ollie said “maybe not totally consciously, but I mean, a part of your brain already does. our brain chooses not to fall in love with children, or really old people or bad people” he had a point, but lia didn't agree fully. “not really though! maybe in those cases, because you know it's morally wrong, but like, you can't meet a person and say ‘i'm never going to fall for them’ because you never know!” aurora agreed, nodding at her words.

“true, but you can just stop, if you realise you're falling for this person, you have the capability to stop.” ollie tried to reason “that's not really how it works, mate” paul chimed in, sneaking a glance at aurora.

 “you know what? i am totally sure i can make you fall in love with me” everyone went silent at lia’s voice. “what?” ollie chuckled, “I can prove that you can't choose who you fall for.” 

everyone was perplexed at her words “love, i met you this morning” he laughed, he found it funny? she was going to prove her point. “im staying for like a month, give me a month and you will be utterly in love with me.” the look in her eyes was so confident it kind of scared ollie. “you know what? fuck it, you have a month to make me fall in love with you” he agreed. “okay then, let's set some ground rules.”

alana was having the time of her life.

when conrad had told her that they were going out to a party with the rest of the team, she had her doubts. being a big internet personality like most of them were, drinking and partying might not have been the perfect idea.

conrad begged and pleaded for her to go with them. she gave up after the lightest pout formed on his lips, and she definitely didn't regret it.

they went to a pub near their apartment, where they didnt even ask for their id’s. lucky, privileged assholes. they drank quite a bit, dancing around the pub with random people who they befriended at that moment. 

after spending a few hours at the pub, they made their way to a random apartment, which hamda had told her belonged to aurora, one of her freca teammates.

the walk there was extremely fun. they laughed a bit too much when paul and aurora started pushing each other. they both ended up on the floor, hands and knees scraped but still laughing. they walked in front of a peer, from which conrad and ollie almost jumped into the water. they sang and danced around the street, almost getting run over a few times.

now that the group had finally gotten to aurora’s apartment, alana found herself laughing with a girl named lia, whom she had never met until that night. she didn't really understand how, as the girl had told her that she had been living with ollie and jak most of the season, but she let go of her confusion pretty fast.

“i was still on it so i was screaming, but our parents weren't supposed to know that we got on the horse so i tried to stop, and then jak fell off and i laughed and my mom ran to where we were and she started screaming as well. my dad and jak’s parents came out of the house to find me on top of an out of control horse laughing like a maniac, jak crying on the floor with his arm literally bent to the wrong side, and my mom screaming” lia was telling her the story of how her and jak had ended up with matching broken arms, and alana could not stop laughing. the alcohol in both their systems and lia’s slurred words making the story way funnier than it would have originally been.

their laugh was interrupted as ollie sat next to them, jak and conrad following suit. alana smiled as her boyfriend sat next to her, kissing her cheek before resting his head on her shoulder.

“i think caillou is dead” jak said out of nowhere, staring at the wall blankly. “why would caillou be dead?” lia asked, looking like she had asked herself that question millions of times “i mean, he is bald” ollie chimed in.

alana was confused, her drunk brain was not able to understand how that conversation had started.

“how does that make him dead though?” lia’s eyebrows furrowed. “well, maybe he has cancer” ollie shrugged. “wait, who has cancer?” sebas asked as he joined them in the living room. “caillou” ollie answered “oh no, poor caillou” lia said, and just then alana realised her tear filled eyes. “love, don't cry. he's in a better place now” ollie said, hugging her close. “that would explain why his mom opened the picture book at the beginning of each episode” jak commented, making lia cry even harder.

alana didn't know what to do, the entire conversation made no sense to her. maybe she was too drunk, or maybe they were.

“i had a classmate that looked like caillou” alana spoke, remembering the boy she met a few years back. “wait, really?” conrad asked. “yeah, his name was quinn. he had hair though” she said, deep in thought “so like, pre-cancer caillou” sebas contemplated, making all of them try to imagine a caillou with hair. “wait… who is caillou?” sebas spoke again, making everyone laugh. “have you been talking about caillou without knowing who caillou is?” lia laughed, wiping her tears away.

they all laughed for a while, until alana spoke again.

“where are paul and aurora?” he furrowed his eyebrows. “probably making out in a corner” ollie shrugged “they are together?” alana spoke. “yeah, but they don't know we know, so don't tell them that we know because they don't know we know” jak’s sentence made alana’s head spin, so she nodded and moved on.

once it was time to leave, alana and conrad clumsily made their way into his apartment. they laughed and shushed each other, as if there was someone that could hear them.

conrad changed as alana wiped off her makeup. she might have been drunk, but she had never and would never sleep with make up on.

 they got comfortable in bed, cuddling into each other. he rested his head on her chest, wrapping his arms around her waist and snuggling his face on her neck. after a few moments of silence, conrad spoke.

“i know im really drunk and i probably shouldn't say this, but i love you. i love you so so so much. you’re so fucking important to me, you know? the first time sebas showed me a picture of you my heart rushed, from a picture! imagine how it was when i actually met you! oh my god, when you got nervous talking to me it was the best thing ever. no one gets nervous about me, its always about the older boys, but you did and it made me feel so funny inside…synd for de andre fyre, fordi jeg har den hotteste pige nogensinde” (too bad for the other guys because i got the hottest girl ever) he said the last thing in danish, so she would have to remember to ask what he said later on.

alana smiled, pulling him more into her.

“i love you too, you drunk” she laughed, noticing that he had already fallen asleep.

jak was in trouble.

big trouble.

it wasn't anything he could have blamed on anyone else, either. it was entirely his fault.

you see, now that ollie and lia had gotten together, and of course paul and aurora had something that they weren't telling them, he was the only one who was alone.

even conrad and kimi had girlfriends, for fucks sake.

he was giving into the preassure, and when ollie asked him if he had anyone special that he was hiding from them, his brain went absolutely stupid.

“actually, yeah” he said, and when lia’s eyes sparkled with happiness he knew it was way too late to turn back.

“what’s she like?” his best friend had asked, and his dumbass said:

 “she's a read head, she’s so funny and the genuine prettiest girl i have ever seen”

what. the. fuck.

he didn't even know any redheads.

he told them he didn't want to say much about her, as they weren't really official yet and he didn't know if she was comfortable with him talking about her that way. and they believed him! dumbasses.

jak told himself not to worry, there were only a few races left and then break was officially started. he wasn't going home, they were actually all going somewhere as a group for a few weeks before the hectic start of a new season.

he would just say that she wasn't able to travel with them and make up a fake break up in the middle of their vacation. but of course, life wasn't that easy.

prema was hosting a party, and since lia wouldn't leave him alone, he had told her that he would invite his secret girlfriend. that way, when she didn't show he would say she stood him up and broke things off.

maybe it was fate that anne’s father was hired to cater the event. maybe it was fate that rené was old friends with her dad so they invited her to attend the party as a guest rather than another part of the staff, and if it was, fate was fucked.

anne stood next to the entrance, wearing a white dress that hugged her body beautifully. she didn't know any of these people. they were all famous. what was she doing there?

lia caught sight of her, and immediately called jak over.

“is that her?” jak looked over, and it was as if the universe laughed at his face. 

 what were the chances of a redheaded girl that no one knew to go to the party? “yeah” what had gotten over him? he could have just said ‘no, that's not her’ and go on with his plan. but he didn't, and now lia grasped his arm and walked towards the strange girl.

“hi! it's so nice to meet you! jak has told us wonders about you” lia said, and the girl furrowed her eyebrows, she didn't know any jak’s.

 “nice to meet you too” she greeted, wanting to know who jak was. her doubt was answered as the brown haired boy next to lia spoke “babe, this is lia, and this is..” she heard the hesitation in his voice as he looked at her “anne, i've heard so much about you!” 

jak was too stunned to speak. why was this random girl speaking like she actually knew who any of them were? “awesome! i'm going to get ollie, be right back!” lia darted away, going to find her boyfriend.

anne looked at jak, furrowing her eyebrows “babe? i don't even know you!” she whisper shouted. she didn't know him, but she didn't want to embarass him either. “im sorry, i panicked!” he answered, in the same tone. they saw ollie and lia approaching, next to paul and aurora. great. “please, just follow my lead” she didn't have any time to protest before all his friends were there. they all introduced themselves and so did she.

“so, jak here didn't want to tell us how you met.” ollie said, making jak look at her with concern. “oh, we met at the market downtown,” she smiled. oh thank god, jak thought. she was a good actress. “what were you doing at the market?” ollie asked him, furrowing his eyebrows “that's where i got the bread i took home the other day.” jak lied. again. ollie nodded before looking back at the girl

“yeah, i was shopping for flowers and i dropped them so he helped me and the rest is history.” the ginger smiled at jak, making him blush. “thats awesome! but how did he convince you to come to the party?” lia asked “my dad is catering so when jak invited me i couldn't say no” anne smiled. she was willing to lie about jak, but lying about the real reason she was there was not an option, not if it involved her dad.

they continued to speak for a while, and lying just got easier and easier for jak and anne. when it was time to leave, lia begged anne to hang out with them the day after. she was going to make up an excuse to not go, but when jak looked at her with pleading eyes, she couldn't say no.

he offered to take her home, since her dad still had work to do. as they made their way to her house, he explained his situation and basically begged her to help him until he figured out a way to get out of it. she thought it was extremely stupid. being in a fake relationship? she had seen how that ended up in books. absolutely not.

she said yes.

he was a very attractive guy anyways.

the next day came up, and anne was on her way to meet jak and his friends for lunch. she had stayed up all night talking to him, getting to know each other and settling things about their “relationship.”

as she walked into the restaurant, she saw jak waiting for her at the door. he gave her a weak smile and waved, making her return the gesture. they greeted each other and went to where the others were waiting for them. she felt his hand brush hers, and saw his nervous face. did he want to grab her hand? she intertwined their fingers, smiling as she saw his small smile.

it’s fake, she had to remind herself.

their meal didn't take long to be ready, and anne was already feeling comfortable with the group when it arrived. she was scared she would feel left out or uncomfortable, but that wasn't the case. the group was extremely welcoming, including her in all conversations and asking her things about herself.

the fun got interrupted when anne heard a familiar voice calling her.

“annie? is that you?” the attention was turned to a blond guy who walked towards them. anne’s heart clenched as she noticed who it was. “mattia, hi!” she greeted, acting as if the plain sight of him didn't hurt her.

mattia was her old best friend. the first person who talked to her when she moved to italy, and of course, her first love. they had been close for so many years, but she never told him about her feelings for him. a year before this very moment, he had completely cut her off. he started dating a girl that disliked anne very much, and ignoring all the times he promised he would stay, he left her. him leaving wasn't even the worst part, as it turns out, he definitely knew about her feelings, and he made sure everyone knew about them too.

“how have you been? i haven't seen you in forever!” jak noticed how happy he seemed to see her, but furrowed his eyebrows as he saw how uncomfortable she looked. anne separated from the hug as soon as mattia lessened his grip around her. “i’ve been okay, how about you?” lia looked at jak, also noticing anne’s fake enthusiasm. “i’ve been great. so, uhm, remember that date i promised you so many years ago? well, the offer still stands”

anne’s blood began to boil. who did he think he was? did he really just tell her that after everything he did?

just as she was about to speak, jak stood up, grabbing her hand and pulling her into him.

“im sorry, she’s taken… actually no, i'm not sorry, she’s just taken” he gave the blond guy a sarcastic smile. mattia raised his eyebrows, but turned his attention towards her once again “i asked you, anne, not him.” jak felt himself getting mad. she was his fake girlfriend, but his girlfriend nonetheless, and this guy was making her clearly uncomfortable. 

“you heard him, im taken” anne’s voice was firm, no longer full of fake enthusiasm. jak felt a pang of pride overtake him as she wrapped an arm around his waist, snuggling into his side.

“you're telling me you actually moved on?” mattia laughed, and jak was about to punch him square on the nose. “i did, the moment i heard what you had been saying about me.” jak furrowed his eyebrows once again at her words.

how could anyone ever say something bad about her? he didn't know her much, but in the few hours he spent with her he could see how much of a kind person she was.

“whatever, we’ll see how long that lasts” the blond scoffed, leaving them in an awkward silence. “sorry about that” anne sighed, sitting back down. jak sat as well, dragging his chair closer to her as he noticed she didn't let go of him until he had to sit down. “its okay, not your fault.” he answered, kissing her temple and putting an arm around her shoulder.

she smiled at his gesture, before lia started talking once again.
