may recs!
** nsfw works ahead so 18+!!!!
neon signs - @pantoneyoongi ; yoongi x reader
- eek okay so hsm is still one of my favorite movies so i automatically knew i would love this. it was so cute seeing the guys hype yoongi up and he’s trying so hard to be humble 😭 i found myself rooting for this blooming couple the entire time!! such a refreshing read
in which series - @onlyswan ; jungkook x reader
- okay so i literally recommend every single installment of the in which series like the love you can feel between these two through writing is mind blowing 🤯 and it's done so beautifully. here's some of my faves this month!!
moving in together!  - i mean c’mon... this live was so iconic and there’s something so heartwarming about learning such a minuscule task like folding your partner’s underwear lol too lazy to shower alone ;) - i thought it was so funny how he just forgot to come back and shower bc chores distracted him like i relate so bad
you suck! - @ugh-yoongi ; seokjin x reader
- this made me realize how much i love vampire fics!!? the banter at the beginning between these two was so entertaining. seeing the relationship between them blossom and how they began to blend their lives together was actually so beautiful!! i never knew i needed twitch streamer jin until now. honorable mention to the supportive bffs tae and jungkook, we love u <3
obviously - @ugh-yoongi ; jungkook x reader
- my most beloved friends to lovers trope!!!!!!! it was so entertaining to see them genuinely believe they were tricking all their friends. like y’all are standing in a glass room!!!!
me and your mama - @joonberriess ; namjoon x reader
- i loveddd the story telling in this one! seeing the journey of their relationship was so sweet and ofc spicy. you can tell there’s just a special love between them, it shows there really is no timeline for love. i just love me a good joon fic too 🫶🏾
bts and types of kisses they remind me of - @melimelon-kawai ; ot7
- i miss my ot7 😔 this was such a sweet read
may 18 - @tattookoo ; jungkook x reader
- 1999, 2002, and may 18!!!! i just love the storyline! its really cute to see one date hold so much meaning and it was awesome to see the couple grow and how life panned out for them! i do not remember life back then lol so i think it’s really cool being transported back to those times with how they talk and everything, every detail is so thoughtful!
redamancy -  @eoieopda ; namjoon x reader
- plus lacuna!! i’m also a really big sucker for ex to lovers so wow omg i think seeing the growth between the two individually then together was really beautiful and one of the best parts. the ring in the teapot really got me like UGH it was so cute and such a nice detail
a little taste -  @jeonqkooks ; jungkook x reader
- this was literal smut so why was i smiling so much??! this was just a beautiful way to show the love between the two, the competitiveness and playful banter was just chefs kiss
love ring - @personasintro ; jimin x reader
- sparked my love for boxer jimin ngl. i love when it's obvious to literally everyone except for the two in the relationship. "i just want to be loved!" got me sooo bad i'm so happy they were able to take the chance for each other 🥹
how would they react if you liked each other but weren't dating - @seokjinsonlyone ; ot7
- ok imagining joon as a rizz master got me so bad. these all were so soft and cute i loved it. it felt perfect for each of them
marshmallows and report cards - @untaemedqueen ; taehyung x reader
- again i just love seeing relationships blossom! i too would fall for dilf tae especially if he kept making me chocolate chip cookies like !??! the whole storyline was written beautifully i loved this couple sm
oui - @pixieknj ; jimin x reader
- didn't find this in may but it's one i genuinely cannot stop going back to it's soo good.
"jimin was terrified of being found out, but never afraid to ask you to- "strip."
LIKE OKAY IM GAGGED! everything was just so good and the ending was so hilarious
new girl - @jjkeverlast ; jungkook x reader
- oh my gosh i got so giddy when this popped up! new girl is a comfort show so i knew this was going to be amazing and one of my faves. even though i know the plot of new girl i was still so entertained while reading this and on the edge of my seat rooting for them lol. also jimin being schmidt inspired was PERFECTION, the character development with hobi and tae too is just so enjoyable, i found myself laughing along often! i’m glad they’re all still so relevant to the plot. def one of my favorite series, i’m excited to see how this develops!! 🥹
grad school is draining the life out of me but i wanted to try and show appreciation to some amazing writers (and organize my collection finally)!!!

hello! i’m wanting to get into more french movies and i believe you have good taste! do you have any recommendations? have a good day!
omg anon i love the question, but where to begin !!! I don’t know how to make short answers so sorry about that…
I'm going to try not to list the most obvious films but not too niche either so you can find them somwhere. And i started watching french films quite late in my life so you won't see many films made before 2015 aha.
Just in case, you can check my letterboxd profile, I watch a lot of french films now so you might find some stuff there too :)
Also, i'm not sure since when you've known me but the film i would recommend the most is obvisouly Portrait of a Lady on Fire by Céline Sciamma (but you probably watched it already if you're following me haha).
Next obvious film since I've been posting a lot about it recently : Anatomy of a Fall by Justine Triet.
And now, here's a list (in no order) of a few films i really loved/ enjoyed. I tried to put them under different themes to make it clearer but obviously some films mix genres.
Comedy/ Romance :
Anais in Love by Charline Bourgeois-Tacquet (2021)
The Bare Necessity by Erwan Le Duc (2019)
My Donkey, My Lover and I by Caroline Vignal (2020)
Yannick by Quentin Dupieux (2023)
The Spanish Appartment by Cédric Klapisch (2002)
(Social) Thriller/ Drama :
Bloody Milk by Hubert Charuel (2017)
Custody by Xavier Legrand (2017)
BPM by Robin Campillo (2017)
The Class by Laurent Cantet (2008)
By the Grace of God by François Ozon (2018)
Happening by Audrey Diwan (2021)
The Night of the 12th by Dominik Moll (2022)
Saint Omer by Alice Diop (2022)
Atlantics by Mati Diop (2019)
Hippocrates by Thomas Lilti (2014)
Amour by Michael Haneke 2012
Onoda, 10 000 Nights in the Jungle by Arthur Harari (2021)
Other People's Children by Rebecca Zlotowski (2022)
Fantasy/ Horror :
Raw by Julie Ducournau (2016)
Infested by Sebastien Vanick (2023)
The Swarm by Just Philippot (2020)
The Animal Kingdom by Thomas Cailley (2023)
Documentary :
Little Girl by Sébastien Lifshitz (2020)
Classics :
Cléo from 5 to 7 by Agnès Varda (1962)
The 400 Blows by François Truffaut (1959)
My Night At Maud's by Eric Rohmer (1969)
I tried to only put one film by director otherwise the list would be endless.
So here you go, have fun now !! And please let me know if you watch some of them :)

HELLOO. i see you reblog a lot of hindi cinema!! i would love to watch more of it, what are your top 10 favorites?
🤩😍🤩😍🤩😍🤩😍🤩😍🤩😍🤩😍🤩😍🤩😍
this might be my favorite thing I've received in my inbox.
wh I well I wh how could I possibly refuse hee hee hee hee
limiting this to hindi cinema helps!! or so I thought, before I went through several rounds of intense interrogation and several scribbled pages of notes and realized this just outs me as a baby shah rukh khan stan, which I am. I resisted every impulse to try to make the list broad and varied and kept only repeating 'what are your FAVORITES, what are your FAVORITES' and even then narrowing everything down was really painful... I feel like I've watched very many but then not very many at all.
There are another half-dozen more I had to cut with great anguish (Paheli, Ram-Jaane, the Don films) OMG EDITED TO FINISH MY FRIGGIN SENTENCE: BUT I PRESENT TO YOU AND TO ALL: VI TSUPERTSUNDERE'S TOP TEN:
Tumblr media
Mohabbatein ("Love Stories", dir Aditya Chopra, 2000)
A young men's college ruled by a headmaster who disdains love--can one music teacher help three love stories grow, and let love tower above all? ✫ My first hindi film. Still can't think of a better introduction. Truly has it all. My favorite ghost story also!! ✧ Standout number: the three ingenues have an incredible dance sequence - it's the emotional climax of the film for me.
Tumblr media
Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai ("Say You Love Me", dir Rakesh Roshan, 2000)
When Rohit, an aspiring musician, meets Saxena, a rich bussinessman's daughter, his dreams of stardom glimmer right within his reach. Life has other plans. ✩ Hrithik Roshan's debut - and what a debut! My first introduction to a beloved facet of hindi cinema - double roles!! ✫ Standout number: The number that takes place in Cafe Indiana, Ek Pal Ka Jeena, accurately conveys how it felt like to go to a Rainforest Cafe when I was very young. Truly thrilling!
Tumblr media
Muhjse Dosti Karoge! ("Will You Be My Friend!", dir Kunal Kohli, 2002)
Childhood friends Raj, Tina, and Pooja are caught in a classic love triangle - Pooja loves Raj, but he only has eyes for Tina. When he moves away, Pooja poses as Tina as they email back and forth and their friendship blossoms long-distance. A decision made in childhood brings problems to Pooja's doorstep - as they all graduate high school and become adults, Raj returns home... ✧ Rani Mukherjee and Kareena Kapoor are the real MVPs here - shining stars in every movie they're in. ✩ Standout Sequence: The medley, seen above, brought me to my fucking feet when we first watched it. The characters diagetically are singing these popular songs for each other at a wedding celebrations - each song's lyrics weave in and apply on multiple levels, depending on who knows what and what they mean, up to and including Hrithik Roshan reprising Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai! Genuinely one of my favorite sequences I've seen period on film, if I could ever put together anything half as layered I'd be patting myself on the back forever.
Tumblr media
Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham... ("Through Smiles and Through Tears", dir Karan Johar, 2001)
The wealthy Raichand family splits in half when elder son Rahul falls in love with a lower-caste girl and marries her - younger son Rohit watches his beloved brother disappear to England and the light in his home wither away. When he becomes an adult, he's determined to find his brother and unite them all again. ✫ These three fuckers as a dad and two sons just make a fascinating family together, let alone the kind of heavy hitting talent you get from Jaya Bachchan (indeed married to Amitji) and of course Kajol my beloved Kajol most of all. 'It's All About Loving Your Parents' is a much much much... much harder sell than I'm prepared to give - at the very least, it's all the drama I can watch in. ✫ Standout Sequence: Bole Chudiyan above is so much fun, of course, but Say Shava Shava is also a really great 'here's how fun things are when things are GOOD' establishing song. When Amitji says 'EVERYBODY' he is not asking!!
Those four films are a truncated highlight reel of the 8 or so films I like watching around the holidays!! They work really well together and I associate them with each other a lot.
Tumblr media
Darr ("Fear", dir Yash Chopra, 1993)
Kiran Awasthi has a freshly minted college degree, a bus ticket home, a beloved boyfriend in the Navy... and a stalker. A young woman is slowly driven mad by a ruthless specter who will stop at nothing to be by her side. As she and her boyfriend escalate... so does he. ✧ Truly breathtaking. A breakout role for SRK, another hit cementing Juhi Chawla my fucking beloved Juhi Chawla as the OG expression queen. My favorite horror film. Rahul Mehra deserves to be in Dead By Daylight so he can fight Leon in a twink off. Simply the bloodiest there is. My Halloween costume next year. ✩ Standout sequence: Any time Juhi Chawla is on screen and I'm not kidding.
Tumblr media
Chaahat ("Desire", dir Mahesh Bhatt, 1996)
When the father of a father-and-son comedy duo gets sick, his son, Roop, would do anything to secure the money he needs to restore his father's health. So when he catches the eye of a wealthy club owner's sister, he can't say no, no matter how much her desire consumes... ✫ Diametric opposite of Darr, now Shah Rukh Khan is the target!! As a carnivore girl lover I can't not adore it. ✧ Standout sequence: Chaahat Na Hoti, pictured above. This was the frame that made me sit up and go 'oh I have to... I gotta watch this movie right now. Right now.' And I was so right.
Tumblr media
Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani ("Yet, I Have the Heart of an Indian", dir Aziz Mirza, 2000)
Ajay Bakshi is a hotheaded, loudmouthed reporter - a rival media network hires his counterpart and superior, Ria Bannerjee, to try to take him down. ✫ A gag-a-minute comedy with more gumflaps than brains, just like our lead. Juhi is heaven in this. I can only describe this as 'I think this is what the guy from American Psycho THOUGHT was going on.' Was a flop - came out right after Kaho Na... Pyaar Hai and couldn't compete - but it hits the zany button like nothing else. ✧ Standout sequence: The inventiveness of the sets in pretty much every song is my favorite. CONTENT WARNING: There is an awful anti-Chinese gag sequence at about the middle of the film. The two leads pose as Chinese reporters to get into somewhere, and it's just wall to wall racial caricatures. I hit that ff button through it myself, a truly unpleasant marring in an otherwise goofy-ass romp.
Tumblr media
Chak de! India ("Let's go! India", dir Shimit Amin, 2007)
Can a disgraced former field hockey star turn 16 proud, contentious players from all over the country into one unified team as their coach? Can each young woman play her all on the field - for herself and for her team? ✩ A sports anime fit into one film, I wish it were several seasons long. Each girl is spectacular and is a joy to watch!! ✫ Standout Sequence: The character work is where this one shines. Bindiya Naik is my personal favorite (and not just because the instant I saw her performance I went 'omg, she's playing my OC almost exactly. I'd cast her in a heartbeat!)
Tumblr media
Fan (dir Maneesh Sharma, 2016)
Aryan Khanna is the King of Bollywood. Gaurav Chandna is almost him, but not quite - knows everything about him by heart, uses him as the light in his life, and Gaurav even looks just enough like him to boot. All Gaurav wants is five minutes of his time. Just five minutes... ✩ Eminem's 'Stan' as a feature length thriller that literally no one else could make. I can only quote this letterboxd review, because it's right: "even if there was another celebrity who could pull off tearing himself open to splash his own imposter syndrome onscreen, they wouldn't dare try...happy birthday to the only actor good enough to make his fans sympathize with his own stalker". I was SO upset to learn that this flopped. ✫ Standout Sequences: the practical and special effects used to differentiate SRK's two roles bar none some of the best I've experienced - uncanny valley is real here, and half of the horror is the ALMOST. but not quite.
✫✧✩✫✧✩✫✫✧✩✫✧✩✫
While I followed a loose, non-ranking order for the preceding nine entries, I had to save the only possible film for number one:
Tumblr media
Om Shanti Om (dir Farah Khan, 2007)
"30 years ago," irrepressible junior artist Om Prakash Makhija has only one dream grander than making it big in the film industry - to get a chance to act alongside his greatest inspiration, superstar Shanti. His wish comes true, but, well... some dreams, one lifetime is not enough... ✫ THE BEST MOVIE THAT EXISTS. THE BEST MOVIE THAT DOESN'T EXISTS. Don't believe me? Let these ladies convince you - when I learned that somehow The Coolest And Most Sparkling theater troupe on the face of the planet staged a production of this I literally got so lightheaded I couldn't see for a second. This movie came out when I was thirteen - if I had seen it then I think it would have made a huge difference. As it was, I saw it at the second most perfect time: when I was/am also a 30 year old irrepressible junior goofball, just like Om. Farah Khan is one of my favorite directors for certain. A film about the hindi film industry, I place it last also because the more faces you recognize, songs you can pick out, movie references you can catch, the better - and it's incredible even still. ✧ Standout sequence: I can't say the whole movie (... minus Deewangi Deewangi it's the Yakuza 4 of this movie) can I??? Let me just say - long story short, Farah Khan got the idea for this film when Andrew Lloyd Weber had her to choreography for his stage show, Bollywood Dreams. She thought the plot, a poor junior artist becoming a big Bollywood star, was eye-rollingly unrealistic. She could do better, she thought... and that idea eventually became Om Shanti Om. The climax is her proving she could do Phantom of the Opera better than him, too!!
✫✧✩✫✧✩✫✫✧✩✫✧✩✫
And, if you'll indulge me... in thanks for giving me a really fun thing to do today, I have one more film: one that I think you would like, based off of the vibes of the journal entries I got to read!
Tumblr media
Veer-Zaara (dir Yash Chopra, 2004)
An Indian pilot and the daughter of a Pakistani politician fall in love, but are wrenched apart when the pilot is imprisoned on false charges. He languishes 22 years in prison, never saying a word, until a young Pakistani lawyer is assigned his case and she is determined to see him freed... ✧ Certified Mom Movie and is an absolute banger. When I thought 'who would be a character who I could see Estelle looking forward to meeting for lunch', Rani Mukherjee's lawyer was right at the top of the list. ✫ Standout Sequence: My personal favorite, Main Yahaan Hoon, is the song linked above. It drives me Insane absolutely Insane - this depicts 'they're not in the room but they're the only thing on your mind' in a way seldom more effective!
✫✧✩✫✧✩✫✫✧✩✫✧✩✫
omg NOW I'm done for eel. This was a terrific exercise in tilling the soil in my brain - I'm really inspired by the all visual direction, the colors and depths, the sensibilities in general exemplified by the movies here, and hope to one day reflect it in my own work! I have to make the Yash Raj reshade shaders I want to see in the world.
Please don't hesitate to drop me a line about anything you find interesting here, other movies you've seen, or anything else! Genuinely truly always love getting to see your work. Thank you for reading!

omg u flatter me.. here are some pieces of media that i really love that i consider to be somewhat lesser known outside of my circles.. i do have lots of favourites not mentioned here that are far more mainstream (my favourite book ever is, embarrassingly, still The Secret History) but it's nice to shine a light on the more niche. i'll add content warnings but they're not comprehensive because i am just going by memory. im also not tagging gore because To be honest with me that's a given.
books and plays
Hypnerotomachia Poliphili (1499) by Anonymous/Francesco Colonna; very strange book where the author (who is actually revealed in an acrostic poem in Latin made by the first letter of each chapter) clearly has a sexual fetish for buildings and architecture. cw misogyny.
Seneca's Phaedra (1st century AD); i live here. Seneca's tragedy about doomed fatal diseased love. sorry i don't have a translation to recommend but you will be able to read mine one day i promise. cw pseudo-incest, misogyny.
The Pepsi-Cola Addict (1982) by June Alison Gibbons; vanity-published in the 1980s and only existing in five libraries around the world (until i suppose its republishing this or last year), this is a fascinating and very weird little book, and the story behind it too is very sad and interesting. i have a pdf if anyone wants it. cw predatory relationships, incest references, suicide.
The Doloriad (2022) by Missouri Williams; strange and swirling little debut set in a post-apocalyptic future, some really incredible prose. cw incest.
Geek Love (1989) by Katherine Dunne; What if the mother of sideshow freaks was purposefully consuming poisons and alcohols and cetera while pregnant to engineer her kids to be attractions Would that be fucked up for what. cw incest and the ableism inherent in the sideshow "freaks" scene.
Equus (1973) by Peter Shaffer; just read this fucking play man (or watch the 1977 movie!). cw animal death
movies
Repo! The Genetic Opera (2008) dir. Darren Lynn Bousman; sorry not sorry but this is my favourite movie ever. i've seen it 17 times. complete garbage trashy 2000s comedy-horror-gore-musical. insane cast. literal genius.
Caligula (1979) dir. Tinto Brass; Do you want to watch a two and a half hour long porno filled with torture and gorgeous costumes and conversations on power. well do i have the movie for you. cw rape, incest, i know i said i wouldnt tag gore but this one does have explicit penis mutilation so.
Van Diemen's Land (2009) dir. Jonathan auf der Heide; a pretty good movie adaptation of alexander pearce's first descent into cannibalism!! my main real criticism is that they desaturated the gorgeous green and vibrant west coast to grey doomy fakeness. cw beautiful gay love
Żywot Mateusza (1968) dir. Witold Leszczyński; incredible little Polish movie set in a rural village, on youtube with english subtitles.
May (2002) dir. Lucky Mckee; literally the most relatable movie of all time to me. socially awkward (super autistic) girl has trouble with love, you won't Believe what happens next
The Lair of the White Worm (1988) dir. Ken Russell; peter capaldi and hugh grant's earth shattering gay love story... super campy phallic lesbic homoerotic vampiric wyrmesque weirdo horror. peter capaldi wears a kilt and plays the bagpipes. you MUST watch this movie.
Ravenous (1999) dir. Antonia Bird; can cannibalism represent manifest destiny AND homosexuality? find out now!
And Then There Were None (2015) dir. Craig Viveiros; Agatha Christie could only dream of writing Burn Gorman's gay homophobic character in this. transcends the book hundredfold and if you disagree you genuinely have shit taste.
albums
At Least For Now by Benjamin Clementine; just listen to this right now i mean it this shit is fucking phenomenal. incredible voice and lyrics and piano and strings.
Stygian Bough Volume I by Aerial Ruin and Bell Witch; gorgeous atmospheric doomy metal
Ludevo by Ifi Ude; Polish folk with a modern twist as well as influences from Ude's Nigerian background, songs about death and drunkenness and love and ancient pinewoods
Songs About Teeth and To The Dark Tower by Cake Bake Betty; the vibe you have created is so freaky and awesome
Juniverbrecher by The Indelicates; something something brexit punch and judy isn't englishness awful etc etc. seriously underrated.
Bath Time by Maija Sofia; super atmospheric devastating album with lots of songs focusing on specific female figures throughout history. her recent album is also great.
honourable mention to The Thick of It (2005-2012) which if you follow my sideblog you will know ive been spiralling into depravity over for months now. you may ask, if you compare my posts to what the show is actually like, What on earth is she talking about and to that i have nothing to say

LISA i need bollywood movie recs PLEASE
omg ash, beloved, this is like the best thing anyone has ever asked me...this is finally my time...😁💖 here we go! (doing a "read more" because this might get long)
Tumblr media
I just went with a lot of stuff I watched in my youth (lol) and these are kinda basic but still good and fun so I hope this can help you out a bit! 🫡
☆ = personal fave
Om Shanti Om, 2007 ☆ (literally like every genre, amazing songs, deepika padukone, and honestly one of my favourite movies in general. For real, every genre: romance, drama, comedy, action, horror even, period piece, celeb cameos, revenge, reincarnation...)
Devdas, 2002  ☆ (drama/romance, I watched this way too much as a child, which may explain the way I am)
Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, 2001 ☆ (so much drama/romance, top tier songs, AMAZING cast)
Taal, 1999 (I've never personally watched this fully, but my family absolutely looooves this movie, and the songs are amazing too)
Jab We Met, 2007 (romcom - haven't watched this in forever but I remember having fun lol)
Ra.One, 2011 ☆ (action/sci-fi, I really like this one because it's sci-fi, which I don't really see a lot of, and Akon sings like two songs in this)
Chalte Chalte, 2003 ☆ (romance/drama, I shed A Lot of tears. Always.)
Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, 1998 (ROMANCE, childhood friends to lovers, pining, etc etc. And I don't think I've watched this but my parents LOVE this movie so. Added to the list!)
Duplicate, 1998 ☆ (comedy/action/romance, this one is kinda silly but holds a special place in my heart <3 it's fun, okay!)
Fida, 2004 (romance/thriller, batshit insane movie tbh. I think that's all i have to say)
36 China Town, 2006 ☆ (mystery/thriller, amazing songs - again, and a fun mystery! kinda predictable now that i'm older lol but still fun)
Salaam-E-Ishq, 2007 (romance, drama, a bunch of different stories in one, and ofc a lot of Drama)
Kal Ho Naa Ho, 2003 (romance, and I shed A Lot of Tears...I haven't rewatched this in forever because I know I'll cry a lot but it's good!)
Dil Ka Rishta, 2003 (romance/kinda dramatic...as per usual, an amnesia story but it works! And Aishwarya Rai looks gorgeous as per usual!)
Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, 2006 (DRAMA!!!/romance, god so much drama...it had 6/7 year old me SHOOK and even now. Insane. There's some cheating in this one.)
Capping it off here but I hope you enjoy some of these! 🥰 And perhaps I shall link my Bollywood playlist in another post...

Idk what’s going on in Netflix producers’ minds but they need to stop casting conventionally attractive actors as serial killers… like why are all these Hollywood producers horny af for serial killers they need to chill. It’s like if you gave the true crime fandom free reign to make fanfic into a movie they would cast these manz.
I know it’s already been discussed to death but Zac Efron as Bundy was the horniest casting of the 21st century. Not gonna lie tho it wasn’t bad for a Netflix movie but still conceptually grotesque.
The 2002 Bundy was horrible idk the guy’s name but why are they casting Chads when the real Ted looked like a pedo. And Mark Harmon is like I’m losing brain cells just seeing that. Also where is his unibrow in any of these movies?? That’s so historically inaccurate to not include that.
Don’t even get me started on the Evan Peters Dahmer. I haven’t seen it yet but I’m considering it but I legit can’t. Jeffrey Dahmer wasn’t some tiktok hair fuckboy, he was an incel weirdo who couldn’t even make eye contact w/ ppl. Why does the American Horror Story guy get cast in everything trying to appeal to edgelord women? Omg
Both Ted and Jeffrey are portrayed in films as these attractive and desired but irl if you know about their lives it was far from that. They both faced rejection from the opposite/same sex are were gross creeps no one wanted and it’s just annoying that Hollywood wants to glamorize these two dirtbag weirdos who look like they eat sand and didn’t leave their house in 20 yrs.

Hiiii aurora dearest how are you? I come to your doorstep to ask for some film recs <3
hiiii gi dear !!!! im ok, hope u are too <3 and omg i loooove this question truly what an honor that u came to me... i dont know what youre looking for in terms of genre or mood so ill give u some of my favourites hoping youll find something u like... sorry this is going to be long and a bit all over the place
may 2002 is just... so relatable to me? its a peculiar lonely weirdgirl spin on frankenstein and its just... yeah. almost painful to watch
crash 1996 is obviously one of my fav movies of all time i talk about it all the time on here but its just so perfect in my opinion. hits the perfect sweet spot between strange and erotic
the teenage apocalypse trilogy by gregg araki + the living end 1992... araki is again a huge influence in my life and my fav director so ofc i had to include him... the dialogues are iconic and very funny and offbeat but also strangely deep and sad. the outfits are great. the music is always perfect (and the source of most of my current music taste). the stylishness and the what the fuck factor make the whole thing unforgettable
past lives 2023 ive seen a couple of days ago and its soooo. quiet and devastating and about missed connections and the nature of human relationships. beautiful
phantom thread 2017 is a classic in my eyes and so tender in a very fucked up way i love it so much
y tu mamá también 2001 so fucking sad but also so sensual. gael garcía bernal said recently that this is one the last really sexy movies and i agree with him wholeheartedly
velvet goldmine 1996 i mean its my fav movie of all time... fake biopic about david bowie and a bunch of other stars of the glam rock era. insane and perfect and with my fav soundtrack of a movie ever and todd haynes is a genius in my opinion and since i mentioned him... his last movie may december 2023 was so good. its heavy though!!
withnail and i 1987... my god. this is apparently seen as a cult classic comedy in the uk which is crazy to me because it sort of made me miserable. it is very funny but also when its not its bleak as fuck i love it

I wanna preface this by saying I mean no offence to the skaters and people I’m about to mention, just the programs, costumes, overall spectacle..
So.
What a freaking mood kill it must’ve been watching the 2010 FD event live (there in person but on tv as well) to watch VM deliver THAT performance, in their home country with the crowd going nuts, then to follow with the two programs by BA and DS..
It’s like stepping back in time 10 years in a matter of moments. The contrast between the future and the past in just.. 15 minutes or so. Now it’s not as though the atmosphere in the arena totally dies in tha arse.. being two top teams there was a fair amount of applause, it’s just the artistic mood kill it must’ve been. Like going from watching a performance of Swan Lake, to… some low budget horror movie. I watch it and just think what the hell were you people (these more dated style teams and their costumers/choreographers) thinking?? Was it not embarrassing to come out after VM- a boy and girl dressed so simply in a blouse and trousers and a white dress wearing…. What they were wearing?? For DS: a trash bag looking cape thing??, BA: him in that all white… elvis-esk get up. THE WHITE SKATE COVERS 🫣🫣🫣. (Also the first two teams in the final group-DW and FS were dressed more simply/appropriately to the sport and character of the program.. not to just say VM are the only ones who get it- but they ARE the best example).
I was watching 2002 worlds the other day- the one after the Salt Lake olys and Rod and Tracey are talking about the “costumes” and how something needs to be done about it (Rod asking ‘wasn’t something done about’ it and Tracey responding ‘yes’ but clearly no one listened) and/or teams should be penalised for excessive costumes. Part of me thinks, as the person skating in this stuff, just.. how do they do it?? Like isn’t it uncomfortable, restrictive, a headache to partner in?? And then the spectator in me thinks you look like idiots! I find it so difficult to watch bc you can’t make out hardly anything that’s happening. These were two (at the time) highly ranked teams with obviously good skating skills but just the visual- the first thing you see- those costumes already gives you the impression of sloppyness. I’ve said before, it’s not like these people are on stage with sets and lights and other people dressed like them so it makes sense, they are just two people in a sports arena with no prior context for what they are portraying, coming out dressed, as these two teams (and there were many more at this event, I only point out these two bc they skated after VM and were medal contenders) did… it just looked ridiculous.
Tumblr media
VM come out just as themselves dressed stunningly and there is no distraction whatsoever to their skating and dancing, even in other programs of their’s- more specific character ones the costume is never a distraction- it always aids in it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
BA were skating to Ava Maria, now why couldn’t they dress in something like VM?? White- the angel/heavenly. There could still be some reference to wings or whatever, but not to the point where it is a complete distraction.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
DS.. just.. omg. That PLUS the aboriginal dance (like guys it was so bad there were Aussie news reports with aboriginal elders talking about how offensive and not representative of their culture it was). So their music/ story was ‘the double life of Veronique’. I looked it up and apparently it’s a movie about a woman who leads a double life/has an identical twin? Idk.. Now why did they dress like a fabric shop went through a garbage disposal machine??? There were rhinestoned faces on both their costumes but you could only make those out up close. Why couldn’t they just dress her in a simple dress and him in something similar (maybe different colours) to Scott and tell the story through movement.. bc the program makes ZERO sense.
[Also: nothing says you have to use music from a movie or theatre show or ballet and skate as the character/s from said production. You can use the music just as music and create your own story, or have no story at all (VM once mentioned this about wanting to skate to R+J but we’re told they were “too old” (which is bullshit) but considered using the music and just dancing to it.. SEE WHY I YELL SO MUCH ABOUT VM GETTING IT). ]
Take something like VM’s Moulin Rouge. Their costumes are reminiscent of the film/stage show, but they weren’t confined to that story in those costumes- they could’ve worn them for a number of different stories/music selections. But they told the story through their movement and interactions together. The lifts (as I’ve detailed) tell the story. The way they touch and hold each other, look at each other. It makes complete sense yet it is also up for interpretation.
With these older programs.. this ‘style’ there is so much going on; either the program doesn’t make sense, they try so hard to make a vague theme seem literal that the skating and athleticism suffers… it’s one thing watching it in 2002, people saying this is ridiculous, but most teams were doing this sort of ‘style’, but in 2010.. I mean VM really were the most “bare”, simple team.. and did it not look the best?? To the untrained eye who can’t really tell skating details apart (me): it is soooo much more pleasant to watch Valse Triste over the majority of programs that year. Just a girl and boy dancing to beautiful music, dressed beautifully- showing off their beautiful posture, long, straight pointed legs and feet, no distractions from their musicality and connection to each other. Stripped down to the bare minimum and everything that should matter in their judged sport can be judged without distraction. Same with Umbrellas, but this time with a theme and story. Same with Pink Floyd- (worlds) themeless, all about the movement and musicality. Same with Mahler.. are we seeing a pattern here?? SAME WITH ALL THEIR PROGRAMS. Every time they came up against (top) teams wearing too much with two much going on.
I guess my gripe is; how did it take this long to realise dressing like that looked ridiculous?? It’s just crazy to watch, and getting back to the original point, it must’ve been so strange, and I wonder if people watching live could make that distinction that just visually, forget athletically, what VM were doing was stratospheres better. And STILL stands up today as one of the greatest ice dance performances of all time.
So yeah…
Here’s VM expressing my exact reaction:

heyy luna!! i'm sorry if you've already answered an ask like this but you are my horror movie mutual and i need a bit of guidance. my whole life i was convinced i was never really a Movie Person but up until this year i realized i actually rlly like movies, i was just watching the wrong ones if that makes sense.. anyway i really REALLY want to watch more horror movies, especially those from the 80s and 90s but i'm a little overwhelmed i guess? and i was wondering if you can recommend some essential horror films to watch for someone who's fairly new to the genre like me? or even just some personal faves of yours that are your go-to horror recs. i know that's kind of a broad request so if it helps, the horror movies i've seen so far and enjoyed are the lost boys, carrie (the one from the 70s), ginger snaps 1 & 2, blair witch project, and jennifer's body. sorry again if you've already answered something similar to this i appreciate your help a lot. much love <3
omg of COURSE i am more than happy to help!! im so sorry im getting to this ask late but im here with some recs ^_^ and its totally real to get overwhelmed there are soooo many movies i wont overwhelm you with too many options but i think maybe a few of these would fit your tastes and be fun but also are essentials so worth watching in my opinion!! and i think good for beginners new to horror too! :)
