It's awesome how Zoroastrianism basically solved the Problem of Evil several centuries before Christ was even born. Like it's not that hard to say "Our god isn't all powerful, but he's still strong and awesome as fuck so you should worship him. Still he has his limits and he's got a pretty strong enemy, so you can't blame him for all the bad stuff in the world". Meanwhile Christians really insist on God being omnipotent as well as omniscient and omnibenevolent, so they're constantly doing insane mental gymnastics and/or falling back on thoughtless cliches ("uhhhhh free will! original sin! god is unknowable!") in order to answer the sort of question that five year olds ask about "why's there so many unfairly or pointlessly bad things in the world".

Plus it means really stupid questions become genuine theological concerns: "If God is all powerful could he make a boulder so heavy that he couldn't lift it?" feels like something you'd see in a novelty riddle book and yet serious theologies have had to have whole debates over it. Like overall, the sticking insistence on Omnipotence has to be among the Jesus Fandom's most embarrassing failures

Okay, Saint Bernard is very interesting. When we talk about motivations for desiring redemption, I often hear people talk about thinking about hell and experiencing fear of God (because we could go there), or thinking about heaven and experiencing affection for God (because He seeks to welcome us there). But Bernard flips these motivations around. He seems to be operating under the assumption that thinking about heaven should elicit a sense of fear of God (because we are approaching Majesty and Sovereign Power Himself, and we really, really need to get our act together), while thinking about hell should elicit a sense of affection for God (because these are the very depths to which God entered and rescued us from). And again, that's just kinda neat.

god it's still so funny to me ouma had that dumb little pretentious joker speech in trial 2 about getting maki and kaito to "fight for their lives" by making them argue against each other to decide the culprit and then neither of them ended up being the killer.

always so jarring to see the fanon around ten and then rewatch his era and be smacked in the face with the fact that he is. very fucking cutthroat and at least to me distinctly alien in the way his morals are just somewhat left of say, typical human morals. don't get me wrong i think he's a fantastic iteration of the doctor and his arc across s2-4 is very fun but that doesn't mean it's not fucking intense and honestly at times actively hostile to the idea that the doctor is '''''good'''''

idk when people decided that trying to make peace with villains or the power of friendship was a steven universe only “problem”.

first off, a LOT of protagonists, especially kid protagonists, are like this. kids shows are less likely to just say “yeah, let’s murder this guy”. just look at all the anime where each villain of the week gets redeemed and joins the heroes. this is such a common trope but for some reason, people decided that steven universe was the only show that does this and therefore should burn in hell.

secondly, steven isn’t even that forgiving. people seriously exaggerate shit and act like he went around pleading to everyone and trying to be their friend. he didn’t even forgive the diamonds, they were just too powerful for him to kill. and he has definitely thrown hands with other antagonists when he needed to.

also, he was a fucking child. do you really expect children to know how to handle largescale issues like war? y’all want the show to be realistic but you don’t take into consideration that it’s crazy to put so much pressure on a 14 year old.
