Hey guys!

So, I don't tend to make posts on here, but this is something I was made aware of recently, but haven't seen anything about it on Tumblr, so I figured I would make a post to try and raise awareness and see if something can be done. Especially since it's kind of a niche topic.

So... what's going on, I virtually hear you ask? Well...

The artist Stuart Semple has been sued.

Now... who is Stuart Semple, and why is this important?

If you're chronically on Tumblr and have been here for over a decade (like myself), you may remember Stuart Semple as the artist who had a beef with another artist named Amish Kapoor, who had trademarked the world's "blackest black," called Vantablack, and was being kind of a dick about it. (Scroll down that post a bunch to see the information about the beef. This is how I learned about the beef years ago, so I felt it was important to add.)

Semple believes that art should be accessible to everyone, and that no one should gatekeep art. As such, he went on a mission to create an even blacker black, and make it accessible to everyone. Which, by the by, he has done! Multiple times over! He's also legally changed his name to Amish Kapoor, but that is neither here nor there.

Awesome! Now y'all know all this information about Amish Kapoor (formerly known as Stuart Semple, though this post will still be using his former (?) name to avoid confusion) and his beef with Amish Kapoor (asshole gatekeeping artist)! Super!

Now, forget all about that. Because this is actually about a different artist, one known by the name Yves Klein. Or, perhaps more accurately... his estate.

The lawsuit.

So, in addition to having beef with Amish Kapoor, Semple also endeavors to make art accessible for everyone by making other patented colors available to the general public. This includes the color of blue patented by the late artist Yves Klein.

To make it clear, Semple's color of blue is chemically different to Klein's color of blue. Even Klein's estate has acknowledged this. That's not what the lawsuit is about.

So... what is the lawsuit about?

The fact that Semple used the name Klein on the packaging, and that he painted his hand blue.

That's it. That's all. Not the fact it's the same color, not the fact that it's infringing on the patent, or whatever. No. Klein's estate claims that they own the trademark for... the name "Klein." Never mind the fact that there is a VERY WELL KNOWN fashion company that uses the name Klein in it that Semple has acknowledged was the inspiration for the design of the packaging for the paint. *COUGH COUGH, CALVIN KLEIN, COUGH COUGH.*

The worst part about all of this? Semple wasn't even allowed to defend himself in court. Klein's estate (which I believe is managed by his son) sued him in secret in a Paris court without his knowledge, and he wasn't even allowed the ability to defend himself. He was just given the order to pay the money, with no chance to defend himself at all. Yes, he's able to appeal the lawsuit, but that costs both time and money.

Why is this important?

Well, I suppose that's up to you, really. But to me, it's really the principle of the matter. Semple has dedicated his life to making art accessible to the public, and as an artist myself, I respect this desire. And the fact he was sued without his knowledge, without the ability to even defend himself?

Well. It rankles me, to be frank.

Art should be accessible to everyone. Period. No person should gatekeep art, and to sue an artist trying to make art accessible, over a fricken common last name? Especially without allowing them to defend themself? ESPECIALLY WHEN THE PERSON SUING ISN'T EVEN THE ARTIST THEMSELF, BUT THEIR GREEDY ESTATE?

It's absolutely ridiculous, and I think something about be done, if possible. At least it should be known about, since the only reason I know is because I'm on Semple's company's mailing list, which I know not everyone is.

What can you do about this?

A decent amount, really!

The smallest thing to do is to share this post, if you can, to raise awareness. It's a very niche topic that I've not really heard about other than through the aforementioned mailing list, and I think raising awareness will at least help, if nothing else. The more people who know, the better.

The next thing you can do is donate to Semple's GoFundMe for his legal expenses. He needs to raise £60,000, and as of this post (May 16th, 2025) he has only raised £9,410, less than 20% of what he needs. This way, he can at least try to fight this outrageous suit.

Another thing you can do is sign this petition created by a supporter of Semple's, which is calling to suspend all of Yves Klein's exhibitions until his estate stops suing living artists. I'm not entirely sure how much this will help, but Semple himself shared it in another of his emails, so it's an option, at least.

Also, you could, if you're obscenely rich, purchase one of these paintings, but since they're like... almost 30 grand each, I don't think that's an option for the average Tumblr user, aha. You could also buy one of these t-shirts, which are still a bit pricey at $41 USD, but the proceeds directly go towards his legal proceedings.

Finally, he does have his company, Culture Hustle, which has a lot of cool art paints and pigments for the average artist, if you're so inclined, including the infamous blue paint that sparked this whole debacle. Supporting him here will help overall, and you can get some super cool, highly pigmented paint or raw pigment itself, if that's your jam. Personally, I like the pigments for my resin art. Really, I suggest looking around the site, it has a ton of super cool paints and pigments that I wish I was able to afford all of.

In conclusion.

Like every good essay, here's my final thoughts on all of this. Personally, I think it's bullshit that this is happening. I don't know Stuart Semple personally, and for all I know he's actually a terrible person who tortures puppies in his free time, who knows. I mean, I highly, HIGHLY doubt it, but anything's possible, and on Tumblr I know there are always people who love to "um, actually" literally everything.

But that's not the point.

The point is that this sets a precedent for the decedents of great artists (not even the artists themselves!) to sue living artists for bullshit reasons that have nothing to do with anything meaningful. It allows them to sue an artist who has dedicated his life to making art accessible, not allow him the right to defend himself, and think that the name of their great relative means they can bully any and everyone. If they're going to sue Semple over something simple as using a common last name on his paint, and painting his hand blue, what else would they secretly sue over, hoping their target is unable to afford the hefty international legal fees needed to counter their ridiculous claims?

It's the principle of the matter to me, more so than Semple himself. Don't get me wrong, I do like Semple from what I've seen (barring any unknown to me puppy torture that I'm sure some random Tumblr user will be all too willing to harass me over for somehow not knowing...), but I'm more affronted by the principle and the precedent this allows. As an artist myself, I despise the idea that something simple like trying to make art accessible is being attacked.

Because, let's be clear.

The Klein estate doesn't care about Semple using the name Klein or that he painted his hand blue. I'm sure they know that it's a ridiculous argument and they don't care about it whatsoever. What they want to stop is Semple selling his blue paint, which they can't touch since it's chemically different from their late relative's patented color. This is emphasized by the fact that they tried to have the judge seize and destroy every bottle of the paint created, which the judge thankfully denied.

Please. If you care about art being accessible, and about preventing greedy relatives of great artists from throwing their weight around for no reason other than they can... please share this post. Let the world know what Klein's estate is doing.

(Oh, and if you want something that Semple has done that is arguably great, other than trying to make art accessible, he helped with a campaign to protest the fact that gay men are not allowed to donate blood in the US. He took blood from gay men and created ink from it, which he then sold in various mediums, to show that it's not this scary, dangerous thing that the FDA makes it out to be. Which I personally think is pretty neat.)

I'm sorry, but why don't we talk about Witch Hunt more? Seriously, I think it might be my favorite DAO DLC. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the hell out of Awakening. Leliana's Song is good. The Golems of Amgarrak is... eh, bad. I didn't really like that one. The Warden's Keep, The Stone Prisoner, and Return to Ostagar are all amazing and I love them.

But Witch Hunt??? Y'all. I can't. I'm too emotional right now.

I have at least one dynamic from each game that I'm obsessed with. For DAO, it's the dynamic between romanced!Alistair, Tabris, and Morrigan. I've talked before about the dark ritual and stuff in this post, so let's just say that my Tabris, Rose, very much has unfinished business and a score to settle with Morrigan.

Tabris and Morrigan grew so close throughout the entire journey of DAO, y'know? Close enough that Morrigan claimed she thought of her as a sister, and Tabris felt the same way... and then in one single moment, it's just shattered.

There were signs that Tabris ignored, like the way Morrigan dismissed all the circle mages and claimed they should be left to their fates since they "allow themselves to be caged like cattle." Or how she disapproved every time Tabris wanted to help those down on their luck. Or, worst of all, when Morrigan disapproved when Tabris chose to kill the Tevinter slaver instead of making a deal with him to use the lives of the remaining elves to grant her more power... one of those caged elves being Tabris' father.

But she gave Morrigan the benefit of the doubt; she's sheltered and only had Flemeth as an influence and teacher, of course she's unempathetic and selfish, but there is good in Morrigan's heart. She can learn to be more empathetic and to care for others.

At least, Tabris believed that until Morrigan confessed that she's known about the ultimate sacrifice and the dark ritual from the beginning, that Flemeth sent her with the wardens with a purpose that Morrigan intends to follow through with. It's devastating and it broke Tabris' heart.

She just learned that a warden has to die to stop the blight, and that warden could be her or Alistair. Not only are they romantically involved, but they've been through all of this shit together, they're the only ones who fully understand what being a grey warden is like. They carry the burden on their shoulders, and they're probably going to lose each other to the archdemon.

And Morrigan waits until she's at her most vulnerable to ask that of her.

Again, I've gone into more detail about that before, but at this point Rose is done with people deceiving her. She's done with Morrigan... except she's not. It's the betrayal and knowing Morrigan got what she wanted that causes Rose to go searching for her.

To Morrigan's credit, she does give some answers. She claims she didn't thing the archdemon would show itself so soon, and she did what she had to because she didn't wish to see Tabris hurt or die. I believe her, and to an extent, Tabris believes her... but Morrigan still doesn't get WHY it's a betrayal.

Morrigan's right: She will never understand Tabris, and Tabris will never understand her. She can insist it's not a betrayal all she wants, but it absolutely is, and Tabris has never allowed anyone who crossed her to just walk away... except for Morrigan.

Until now.

Hearing that Morrigan manipulated her way into the trust of this Dalish clan so she could steal their book and run is just further evidence in Tabris' eye that she hasn't changed. Maybe it was always foolish to believe she could.

So... she stabbed Morrigan.

She didn't do it to kill her; Morrigan is the daughter of Flemeth and a powerful mage with healing magic, a mere stab isn't going to kill her.

No, it's about what the stab represents: "I am done with you."

And how the scene plays out? It's so dramatic and good, just the way everything slows down, the music, how they make eye contact as the stabbing happens just....

I know it sounds really bad, and this is the part where I remind everyone that I ADORE Morrigan, but the stabbing ending is so satisfying from a story-telling standpoint for my playthrough.

It's so tragic and it hurts and I hate it.... but I love it, y'know?

I love Witch Hunt, like I haven't even talked about Ariane and Finn, or how the circle just has all these books on Dalish artifacts and translations of elvhen, or how other eluvians can be found with a shard from the broken one in the dalish origin.... like you're telling me that Merrill had a piece of the puzzle? If she had the knowledge, she could've found a working eluvian to study?? I'm going to gnaw my own leg off--

So! Have all the thoughts I swear I tried to summarize below the cut, and in the meantime if you haven't already, please make sure to go give her spirit seeing pirate lad a follow 💜

Note: I have not played any of the Nioh games, so I'm just going off what lil I know about this mans and what I observe. Please always take it all w a grain of salt and as always, I beg of you, do not let anything I say about characters astrology stuff change anything about your lovely portrayals bc that's not what I'm here for. We just here to be mystical & have fun 💜

Note 2 : Me and Rawbi did discuss a couple of things, like what his ascendant could possibly be (bc unlike the Sun, Moon & Planets, the ASC changes signs around the hour.) For William I had a hunch Taurus was likely a very possible candidate here just based on some things Rawbi told me. And she mentioned she actually headcanoned he was born around sunset / around 7pm. — Taurus was rising from 6:35pm - 7:35pm. So for now we going w Taurus ascendant lovelies ✨ Let's go~

🌒 Big 3: Libra Sun, Capricorn Moon, Taurus Ascendant

🌒 Quick summary: Looking at this chart with what little I know about him? I see someone not unlike the archetype of a wise wanderer. Perpetually stuck on a spiritual journey - perhaps quite literally - with many twists & turns as the occult + taboo seem to call to him from multiple areas of his life to transform and settle others issues outside of his comfort zone. He has all the quick wit and diplomacy to take the ride in stride, and odds are he's an excellent albeit unique mediator, but nonetheless... having nowhere to truly call home gets tiring yeh? ;;

🌒 - Uranus in the 8th + Uranus opposite Neptune + Pluto in Pisces: Uranus here holds a ton of power in this mans chart. Almost directly aspecting Mercury & closely aspecting Mars & his Sun as well, Uranus' themes of chaos, rebellion, change + everything odd & unique are applied to anywhere from his communication style & thought process, how he expresses his anger, to his overall identity as a whole. He has a unique blend of Libra's diplomacy & harmony with Uranus' touch of chaos. And on the more common side of things, Uranus in the 8th typically manifests as chaos with joint resources and intense sudden transformations throughout life. But in Williams case? With what little I know about him Imma say it's a safe bet this more often manifests as uh.. literal chaos in the house of death, rebirth & the occult, with that constant cycle of rebirth and dealings with spirits on his shoulders. Meanwhile transformative ruler of the 8th Pluto is over in Pisces, the sign of mysticism, spirituality, the afterlife and oh yeah, the sea + all nautical matters. Neptune's co-ruled sign. Even aspecting Neptune. And Uranus is opposing Neptune, who rules the same themes. – All boiling down to a trifecta of listen, I'm nowhere near surprised that this man is quite literally haunted and experiences transformation on the high seas.

🌒 - Moon detrimented in Capricorn + Moon conjunct Chiron + Saturn & Jupiter in the 4th + Pluto in the 11th: Oh.. This mans sense of comfort, nurture, security and ability to express his emotions properly is in deep trouble huh? :c Often when Chiron conjuncts the Moon, more often than not it's found the chart holder struggles with nurturing themselves just as much as nurturing others typically thanks to trauma associated with either their mother or primary caregiver growing up. It could be they were simply unavailable in some capacity, or... much worse 😔

But in Williams case, it seems these issues with craving comfort & security very likely followed him throughout his life. With his Moon detrimented in icy, restrictive Saturn ruled Capricorn, whether he realizes it or not, sharing his emotions makes him feel.. a little too vulnerable. He might subconsciously or consciously put great restraint on his own emotions, and odds are he comes off as aloof & unemotional all together without even trying, at least until he's able to feel safe around someone and better express himself - but with Saturn & Jupiter's constant push & pull in the lunar ruled 4th ( Restriction & limitations VS expansion & excess ) it's likely that whenever he begins to set down roots somewhere, that security is rocked by some form of dramatic (thanks Leo influence) trial before they can grow that deep. And with Pluto also in his 11th, fitting in becomes especially difficult before said roots can even sprout, with betrayals & power struggles common among comrades & groups.

However, it's important to note that when it comes to Saturn & it's trials in astrology, they're not meant to uproot that growth all together. It's just ensuring those roots can stand the test of time with it's... harsher methods of teaching growth compared to Jupiter's gentler. Same goes for Pluto, whose entire archetype is that of the phoenix: burning things to ash in order for necessary transformation & revival. Pluto in the 11th when used wisely can also gift someone with the innate power to transform those around them, from allies to whole communities. – Growth, comfort & security if desired is not impossible in his life. Just much much harder to carve in stone than most.

🌒 - Pluto sextile Moon: While Cap Moons have a tendency to come off as aloof & unemotional, that doesn't mean those emotions aren't there. The Moon just struggles to manifest it's emotions on the surface in restrictive Cap, and often Cap Moons emotions run just as deep - and sometimes deeper - than other lunar signs. – In Williams case, this is especially true with transformative & ruler of all things hidden yet intense Pluto at play. Pluto sextile Moon is actually a great placement to have in his case! It's a placement common in psychologists with how it allows the chart holder a familiarity with and knack at instinctively pinpointing the deep seeded core issues of most emotional matters. And while Cap Moons struggle with expressing their emotions, Pluto at play here allows those emotions of his to still be subconsciously felt by those around him in ways even he may not fully understand.

🌒 - Moon in the 9th + North Node in Sagittarius / 8th : Despite all the chaos and moving around from here to there however, ironically his Moon in the 9th suggests he may find the little comfort in his life via this chaotic constant journey itself. Via his career, public image and responsibilities. There's likely even a sense or instinctual pull to keep moving, keep exploring, not just because it's safe, but with North Node in Sagittarius & the 8th, because it's possibly quite literally his destiny. The life lesson of a person with North Node in the 8th is one of overcoming all of the above and finding a balance in relying on themselves and those around them. Could you imagine if Mimzy had been around for 3 or 4 episodes. Imagine if she started in everyones good graces, but then day after day they kept having to deal with her shit. Until it's the day Lucifer comes over and she shows up, doesn't care, and brings shitty sinners to the hotel after her. And THEN Alastor is the one who boots her. Like, he put the hotel first. He was the radio demon, and he takes responsibility for a misdeamor. Oh! What if he trusted Mimzy without forcing her to make a deal, and then she broke her promise and betrayed him and he fucking lost it at her. ...Mimzy fucking had the radio demon like putty with a simple whiskey... is that legit? Imagine if she fucking did something to get where she was with Alastor. And he didn't want to say no cause she'd tell people about it. And she learned he'd told anyway and lost his shit. Oh! Imagine if Mimzy refused deals with Alastor because she knew his weakness' and held them over his head whenever deals were brought up. So he couldn't make her play nice, even when he desperately needed her to. And then she told the hotel people anyway. And Alastordidn't kill her, in front of lucifer. And Lucifer was confused and Charlie explained it and, respect?

Anyway, in the end, imagine if Alastor didn't choose violence in front of Lucifer, or stopped before murdering everyone? And then Lucifer was like "oh shit, you have a point" and then agreed to help charlie and co.

And sure, she was talking about Angel to the courts in heaven. But Lucifer only trusts it because Alastor busted his ass off and impressed the king of hell. And Alastor's like 'she was just annoying me' and he's like, 'my daughter said stop and you did. And you very well didn't have to. I watched you hold back chewing on a guys head. Fucking hell, Charlie has a point.' And then Alastor ran away embarased while Lucifer was excited with his new hyperfixation. Which lead to him staying at the hotel just to annoy the fucking most annoying character in hell. And Alastor can't stop it because he's not an idiot and not that powerful and they spend a good two seasons as the episodes b plot trying to get on eachother's nerves. Lucifer wants to understand how free will works and chooses Alastor to study, because he has all the power and actually chooses to wield it well sometimes, and when he doesn't, it doesn't make sense to the fallen angel who doesn't do sinners in any way. Someone saw two people make bad choices and went into isolation knowing nothing could be done. Only to realise he is in hell with two other angels and that not knowing people is stupid. And he could just study Charlie's gang of Hooligan's because Alastor feels closer to his level. Maybe he thinks Alastor is a rolemodel, and Alastor hates it, because it's the last thing he wants. And then he has to claim responsibility for his actions lest the king of hell start terfwars and become the baddest bad.

Oh! Imagine if Lucifer WAS actually the big bad. Because Alastor pushed him away and Lucifer felt actual anger and didn't know how to cope with feelings, was coerced by the big bad, spent enough time under him for it to become habbit, and then, Alastor had to get over himself for Lucifer to see he fucked up. And then emo, gangster drug addict, self harm, suicidal, terf fighting, genocidal, deal making racist piece of shit has to get over himself. And then Alastor has to support him to pick up the pieces. And we see why Alastor has power and did what he did with it, and why Lucifer did wrong. And the concept of free will being bad finally does a 360 and Lucifer has experience with his gift. And maybe his depression gets better, because he learns how to face his shame head on. And he final feels like he doesn't have to live in shame every second of his life.

God, they missed out on some fun shit (I said before writting 3/4ths of my ideas written above)

You don't even need radio apple. They're just two perfect characters to compare and contrast. It was soooo close. I'm so sad they didn't 😭😭😭

And I get it because Charlie wouldn't be the main character of her own show. But if you put her in the middle of all the conflicts and only have Alastor doing overlord shit it would be fine.

Or better yet, except that you named the show after the hotel. And Alastor and Charlie run the hotel. Why the fuck isn't Alastor the main character? Or half the main character spotlight.

I am so frustrated and upset. It has so much more potential my god.

Dammit. If I wasn't two books into my fanfic I'd write something with this. But I'm not. Unfortunate. Ugh!

shared a bit abt this in the ga discord server a bit ago but i lost track of it because i got very busy in the interim but i see the problem has not gone away (and in fact gotten a bit worse) so i am going to share some info here.

i see that "capsize" by Ducky-san on ffn has been crossposted onto ao3 under a different username (DarkFaerie0) and im suspicious bc the original notes on the chapters are gone and there is no mention of the original work or crossposting. i'm concerned that someone is stealing someone else's work and claiming credit for it. i have reached out to Ducky-san directly on ffn but since they haven't been active in a few years, i don't know if i will get a response.

the crossposted fic has a decent amount of interaction and comments for a ga fic, and if it isn't Ducky-san, then it makes me sick to see someone else get praise for hard work that isn't theirs.

542,419 words. Wow. That's a little crazy ngl.

Mostly Trollhunters/Tales of arcadia. But I've written a oneshot for She-Ra and the Princesses of Power and one for Scrooge: A Christmas Carol (2022). And I've done a multichapter fic for Arcane: League of Legends. Probably going to do more fics for that eventually. And I have two planned for The owl house I'm really excited about!

I do! In my first fic I was hesitant to the first couple of chapters, but now I make a effort as I know how awesome it is to get a reply from the author on fics I've left comments on myself. And also because sometimes I have wonderful conversations!

6. What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

This is a bit hard to pin down, because while a decent amount of my fics go really, really angsty, they tend to end on a slightly hopeful note. But I'd think it's either Through the Veil which while the actual end is rather uplifting, it's overshadowed by the torment all the characters have gone through or chapter 4 of my prompt collection for Stricklake month: corruption. Which is... Sad.

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Hmm well my main fics are not finished so I can't put any of them down... Er most of them end happily? I guess for the top one A change in a moment, since I also barely killed any characters in the end...

8. Do you get hate on fics?

No. Very thankfully.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

Anything explicit? No. I've tentively suggested it, but not in any detail.

10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?

I have not yet. One of my aforementioned Owl house fics I have planned will be a crossover, with Trollhunters, but nothing crazy.

Unless we're talking about the Arcane/Disney Tangled crossover, but that's a soft crossover, with a wholly Arcane cast of characters.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Nope. At least not that I'm aware of.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

Again, not to my knowledge.

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

No... It was going to happen at some point, but then it didn't. Which was fair, even if disappointing.

14. What's your all-time favourite ship?

It's Stricklake. I have loads more I like a lot, but that's the one that made me start writing fanfiction.

15. What's the WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

This isn't really applicable, I plan to finish every fic I start, but there's one that's taking longer than I like to complete, which is Heart of Stone. It's close to the finish line, I just need to push myself there.

16. What are your writing strengths?

I like to think I'm pretty good at creating snappy dialogue with plenty of banter. And that my worldbuilding is pretty damn good. Also that I'm able to consistently keep a large cast of characters IN character and balance them all. I'm also fairly good at descriptions and gore.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

I think sometimes I struggle with pacing, and the flow of my writing can be clunky at times. I also find filler chapters less interesting to write, even if they're important to set later things up.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

I do end up doing this at one point or another in most of my fics! I use Google translate lol. I'm not ashamed. I also use italics if it's not English, with the translation in my notes at the end.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

Trollhunters! The first show to get me into fandom, and fanfic and tumblr! It was the first in a lot of things.

20. Favourite fic you've ever written?

Has to be Challenging Destiny! It's just about halfway, but the reception to it and it's faithfulness to the source, as well as the heaps of research and worldbuilding I've put into it has made it the fic I'm the most proud of. It's got a big cast of different characters to balance, which just adds to the challenge lol. But it's worth it.

What do you think about the lack of importance Edenia have in the last (and probably in the upcoming too) games?

Seriously, it makes me really Sad. Edenia was so important in the first timeline. What the hell happened? Only a few characteres mention this realm in MKX

It sucks. Big time

If you'll note, basically none of the realms matter anymore, aside from Earthrealm and Outworld.

Sure, the Netherrealm exists, but that's pretty much it. Dreamrealm is of dubious canonicity (introduced to explain Freddy Krueger as a guest fighter, then used to explain Tremor's glow up. Given he isn't shown in the storyline and arcade endings aren't canon in that game, I don't feel comfortable saying "yeah. That's important to the story"), and means nothing to the plot.

Chaosrealm and Orderrealm also don't show up despite being neat concepts.

What I'm getting at is that it makes the MK universe feel small. Edenia is only part of the problem, but I think it's a good example. Mortal Kombat feels more focused on nostalgia bait, Realistic Graphics, and more grisly Kombat than being, y'know, Mortal Kombat. None of that is necessarily Bad, but it's making it feel a little generic to me.

Maybe it's my bias and nostalgia, but that's just wrong. I'm not saying they need to bloat the worldbuilding, that would suck too. I'm just saying that they have these fun concepts, could they PLEASE do something with them???

Not to be the "they changed it, and now it sucks" guy, but I really love the original timeline's absurd worldbuilding. That's a major draw for me. Not only is it absurd, but it was constantly rolling and acquiring new and interesting bullshit. To me, that gave it a personality.

The original timeline feels like you took Enter the Dragon, the Matrix, Magic the Gathering, and classic slasher films, mixed it all up, then used it to bread and batter the gameplay. Deepfry that sonuvabitch until golden brown and serve it hot. Its the fried fish and hush puppies of gaming. I wouldn't say that it's Good For Me, but it's fucking delicious.

Its also not widely palatable and, just as Long John Silver's isn't exactly a big name restaurant, MK was kinda in a slump for a while, profit wise.

I think what happened is they cut back the weirder shit in order to make the games more popular. Its a chicken tender now. Not bad, but it's more of a "I'll take it if there's nothing better/nothing else I feel comfy eating" dish. Still not Good For Me, but often dressed up to seem healthier. By which I mean "able to be taken seriously by more people." The worldbuilding is more Serious ™️, so is the Gameplay. Don't get me started on the State Of The art Graphics.

Its all done this way for profit reasons. I don't doubt that folks on the team are still passionate about the games, but you can't forget that NRS is owned by a bigger company than Midway was. There's more executive meddling, so we see less of the more niche worldbuilding elements like Edenia

Bit of an out there ask, but I think you’ll enjoy the thought experiment. What if Sophie or another main character got turned into a vampire/vampire like creature? Think less twilight more Vampire the Masquerade/Interview with the Vampire/What we do in the shadows.

You're right, I would! Unfortunately the only of those references I've seen is wwdits (the movie), so I don't have as solid an idea of what you're going for as I would like.

Well first and foremost I think it would be very limiting and difficult to adjust to, but that's a given. They live in a world that revolves around light, and now they can't see the sun without bursting into flames. Judgment and scorn are sure to follow from their world, more intense than what they're facing currently. That is if the news goes public.

Also incredible alienation from their friends, as no one would know what to do with them--not for lack of trying, though! Their friends would absolutely do their best to support and get them through this, but it's also a very new and unexpected situation. Even at their most supportive, there will be aspects of their new situation (vampire) that their friends just can't relate to or connect with them on the same.

Interestingly, I think a lot of what makes the wwdits vampires the way they are wouldn't affect the kotlcrew. Because part of what makes the wwdits vampires (and vampires in general) Like That is that they're out of place temporally. They still live life very influenced by a past that doesn't exist anymore, everyone from those times dead and gone, leaving them alone and ill-adjusted. But the kotlcrew are elves, they'll live for thousands of years yet at least. Whoever is turned into a vampire wouldn't be as odd because everyone they know will still be alive, the world isn't moving on without them. Unless they sequester themselves away for centuries and talk to no one, but I don't think their friends would let them do that.

So a huge aspect of vampirism--living while everyone you love dies, stuck in time while the world leaves you behind--wouldn't be nearly as impactful here, much less of a curse.

I think the diet change would be most notable--vegetarian species -> blood drinker is quite the shock. Coming to terms with that would be a process (perhaps easier if it was Sophie, given her exposure to vampirism prior and her willingness to eat animals), and it would make everyone uncomfortable. Except maybe Ro. She'd think it was cool as fuck. There might be some self-starvation involved as they try to resist, but depending on how tempting blood is, they might not be able to resist. Which would make everyone see them very differently--though I do think they'd get through it in the end, perhaps with some hiccups in the road.

I'm rambling at this point, but basically: depends on who and depends on the specific mechanics of their vampirism. The blood thing would be a huge deal, but the outliving your friends and growing out of sync with time wouldn't really happen, lessening the burden. Of course we could get into more specifics, but i hope that helps answer your question!
