Travelodge, 2830 S. Las Vegas Blvd – 1958.

Oldest rooms on the Strip.

Ted Griss owned the land when the motel was built. The Travelodge Corp. had a management formula whereby the corp. designed, financed, constructed, and equipped each new Travelodge project, then entered into a partnership with a couple of family who then became the managing partners. Co-owners of this Travelodge were Laura Belle and Maxwell Kelch (Las Vegas promotions pioneer) with Lois and James E. Zurcher, and Opal and J.H. Tompkins. The Kelch family were still owners in the late 70s. Ted Griss' widow Agnes Griss sold the land in the 70s. It has sold several times since then with the motel operating on a lease.

The motel broke ground in Fall '57 and opened either late that year or early 1958.

The motel was involved in one of the oldest unsolved murder cases in Clark County. On 2/4/59, 45-year old motel clerk Evelyn Grace Shank was abducted from the motel during an apparent robbery gone wrong. She was found killed near Blue Diamond.

And a birth. “I was born in this hotel in ‘72, given up for adoption and it’s listed as my place of birth ... Not too many born ‘on the Strip’” -Theresa Kozak Cohagen.

below the cut is basic facts of the opal and facts on spencer, all i really did was rewrite the amulet itself and just gave it to an existing oc of mine. i do not care what anyone else does so long as y'all respectful to eachother and dont incite bullying or harassment about it.

so yeah, i decided to rework my version of 963 (amulet) a little, its still the same anomaly idea i have where it heals wounds and keeps the host that's bonded to it alive without the possession bs. quick facts:

its an opal!! Specifically a black opal, only really found in australia. When it 'heals' wounds it gains more color to it.

while its bonded to one host at any given time it can still heal those who aren't its host. just it doesn't grant the person immortality; and at most can heal most surface level / first and second layer of skin. Unlike healing host: it cannot heal deeper wounds, loss of limbs etc. for others and doesnt grant immortality.

although it can prevent death and heal fatal wounds, in the situation where if the host isnt made contact with the opal in a time span (idk how long yet) it won't work. Old host will be fully dead and gone, and then opal will choose a new person who wears it next. as a big note: Opal can NOT and does NOT possess others. i am using host as a term for the 'main wearer' that it grants the main immortality aspect to.

depending how deep the wound is there are still scars.

i will work on actual scp file sort of thing for it but this is the basics. now, i also changed the current main wearer/host (idk right term) to be spencer kripke. a dear oc of mine, i felt it was a lot easier than coming up with a brand new oc with brand new lore. Spencer Kripke facts:

autsitic adhd, he does have ptsd due to being at the foundation but he copes well i think. a little paranoid and insomanic about it.

while he was given the Opal for whatever reason, he was already anomalous. he has no shadow, regardless of light type he cannot have one. shadows from other objects seem to 'pass through' him and appear behind him and a little disorted. yet he is still very visible and very tanigible.

panromantic greysexual, he/him mostly but doesnt mind the occainsional they/them as long as it isn't constant.

can play guitar, specifically the acoustic guitar. he is a fan of nirvana and Metallica and similar bands. he will talk non-stop about his interests!

in the foundation he is a senior researcher, he specializes more so in biological sciences but knows a bit about other stuff.

erm also he has a great uncle who is of the church of the broken god in the maxwellism group. thumbs up.

Personality: Helpful and kind if not quiet, Tex is a hard-working person who enjoys spending time outdoors, making friends with the local wildlife, and appreciating nature wherever they can find it in Pelican Town.

Housing: they live on Starfell ranch which they inherited from their grandfather just on the northern edge of Cindersnap forest, in a house surrounded by lots of forestry, land to raise animals and crops, and privacy to practice magic.

NOTE: you must be friends first before you are able to enter Tex's home uninvited. Regardless of your friendship levels with Tex, their bedroom remains locked although if you visit at certain times, you can see Rasmodius or Maxwell visiting with them in the chairs stationed in front of Tex's bookshelves.

Pets: a grey and white male tabby cat named Asher. He can be seen roaming around the farm on sunny days and on rainy days, he lounges inside the house with Tex. In the aquarium are the following: an octopus (Debussy) , a flounder (Bach), a shrimp (Satie), a herring (Shubert), and a crab (Mozart).

Love interest: Maxwell (As the player, you cannot romance them- there are no slots for the hearts required to date/marry). As the player spends time in Pelican Town, Maxwell & Tex's blossoming relationship is meant to be strictly an observable event via walking in on their interactions. They get married in the Winter of year 4 and the player receives an invite in the mail.

As for Tex's schedule, here's a working time table I've come up with:

NOTE: Tex spends 6 AM-11 AM tending to their crops and animals on non rainy / non snowy days and 6 AM - 9 AM on rainy / snowy days

- on Mondays and Wednesdays, Tex visits the mines from 12 PM - 3 PM and practices magic inside their home from 4 PM - 7 PM.

-on Tuesdays and Thursdays, they go to the library from 1 PM- 2 PM and then visit with Rasmodius from 4 PM - 6 PM.

- on Fridays and Saturdays they are out foraging in the woods from 12 PM - 3PM; after that they will visit with Rasmodius until 4 PM--- then they're off to go to the bar with Maxwell.

- on Sundays, they go to the beach to spend it from 1 PM - 3 PM staring out at the water and painting/drawing on an easel or a sketchpad. From 4 PM - 6 PM, they can be seen sitting with Maxwell outside his cottage while he is whittling or, if it is raining, they can be found inside his cottage drawing on a sketchpad while he whittles.

Fun facts

Tex doesn't verbally talk to the player until the player has earned 1 heart; until then, they merely smile with a "......." dialogue instead. This is because Tex is wary around strangers.

When finally comfortable speaking, Tex has a clear southern accent by their words. An example of this is when they say, "Howdy [Player's Name]! Mighty nice weather we're having, ain't it?"

Tex is friendly with magical creatures such as the elusive fæ folk, the lonely dwarf in the mine, the shadow being Krobus, the talking bear, the yeti, and the junimos--- regarding the junimos, they often can be found in the old community center bringing them flowers, fruit, and giving them affection. On rare occasion, they even befriend a monster or two in the mines- sometimes, they bring them ores and gems.

When the player get 3 hearts with Tex, Tex sends them a recipe for eggplant parm.

A Liar is a liar.

It had been years since she'd been back to Moscow but here she was indulging two women who only criticised her marital status. Her face a wrinkled mess of anger Melanie lied and said she was married. They also had money like Melanie but her family of course had more.

"Yes. I do have a husband. In fact we're attending the next event my mother is hosting." The lie was a sour one to tell. Her friends were married, and these nobody women were. Maybe it stung.

"Can't wait to see it-! Not." Melanie could hear the haughty laughter as they disappeared down the street. They didn't believe her one bit. Sighing she realised the mess she tangled herself up into.

Ha-Min assessed her watch once more, still incredibly confused about why she still wore it despite its utter disrepair. To be frank, Melanie would miss not having it on her wrist, not having that exact make and model. Broken things are still worth keeping. If she was a losing dog then she'd want someone to bet on her despite the odds. When she was learning how to write again she broke several expensive pens, they sit in a box in her childhood bedroom as a reminder that what's broken is to be learned from.

"I told a lie, I'm sorry." She started, refusing to meet his gaze. She felt guilty for once. "I overstepped as they made me feel inferior."

"What did you lie about?"

"I said I had a husband. And that we were attending my mothers next event." Then I go and spoil it all by saying something stupid like I have a husband. Things like this don't usually make her feel angry, inferior but everyone around her is finding someone. Someone to stay.

What if Ha-Min wasn’t here to stay, like Maxwell. Sure he treated her better than Maxwell but would he stay? They hadn’t said their forbidden I love yous. Well she did in her language. The ways she’d slip it in during conversation. She reserved words like that for her mama, for Opal. For him. He only knew Korean, Japanese and French. She only knew Russian and French.

The ways she’d whisper it into a drink or look to the side. At times he did wonder what it meant but he wasn’t quick enough to catch her in the act.

"Oh," He'd never thought about marriage, in fact he liked how they were. She'd never thought about it either. "We will pretend, show them we are better. They won't know it's a lie." Ha-Min suggested.

"I'm not better. I didn't do anything to deserve my family's money besides being born. I didn't do anything. Becoming a detective was for Opal, the way she begged me-- I couldn't say no."

"I don't feel better than them."

Ha-Min out of everyone knew how she felt. The way they looked down. "I don't care if it's a lie. We will show them up at Eva's event." Ha-Min was incredibly insistent now. The determination to show up these strangers. Show up people who don't even matter.

"Are you sure? We don't have rings. I don't even own any rings to begin with." Melanie wasn’t opposed to the idea, in fact humiliating them could be added to the agenda as well. Put the people in their places. Her gears were churning now.

"I am."

All the stops would be pulled. Little details like his embellished gloves would be worn, of course her signature locket. And perhaps this would be the night she shows some skin.

Eva's events were no joke. If you showed up without following the dress code then you wouldn't be allowed in. The people on the invite list were perfectly curated by Eva herself and herself alone. Dmitri would make suggestions but didn't bother with things like that. He was alway worried about other things.

On the bathroom counter of Ha-Min's apartment a half-full glass of wine sat near the edge as she tightly brushed her hair back into a half-up and half-down style. The counter tops a beautiful marble and huge mirror to compliment. Because Melanie was the only living daughter of Eva she was allowed to wear almost anything she wanted. Not that she was a huge drinker, she also wasn't a small drinker. The white wine looked more pink than clear.

Melanie brought the glass up to her lips, getting frustrated with her hair. It brought back memories of when her father grunted every time he couldn't control baby Melanie's hair.

The Lenn hair was a hard thing to control. Melanie’s arms were getting tired but she persisted.

Ha-Min came back into the bathroom with the bottle and another glass. Setting his glass beside hers he filled it up and topped her off. This kind wasn't necessarily his favourite but it wasn't the worst. They were both almost ready to go but there was still time.

"Do you like that kind or are you not a wine drinker?" She asked curious, Melanie had made her way around the liquors of the world. Her expression deeply concentrated.

"It's alright, I'm not sure how I feel about it though." He replied, watching, looking at themselves in the mirror. Of course, Melanie being Melanie used a healthy amount of hair product to contain all of it.
