Where can you play ride kamens? It looks fun looking at your blog but idk where to play
it'll doesn't start until the 30th, but there's some pre-release episodes/character bits that are scattered around the website and twitter! (the links to pre-reg/download are also on the website :D)
honestly I'm really enjoying it just based off of the pre-release stuff, these characters look like they're going to be exactly that blend of ridiculous and emotionally constipated that hits me so right.

Okay, so because of this ask, I've been thinking about the Musca stuff from Optimism again.
In the episode, Sam struggles to express his feelings directly. Instead of just telling AU Charlie, "I want you here because you remind me of someone I loved," he frames it through the case of the week, telling her that, actually, she is the one that needs community. His indirect approach highlights how hard it is for him to be open about his emotions or what he really needs. Even his initial emotional plea to AU Charlie is cloaked through old Charlie's connection to Dean:
CHARLIE: He'll be fine. Your brother, I mean. He's got other friends, right? SAM: Plenty. Uhm, he used to have a pretty damn good wingman. CHARLIE: So call that guy to check on him. SAM: That guy was you. CHARLIE: No, it wasn't. SAM: Right, I, uh, sorry. I didn't mean that.
Framing the Musca’s situation as AU Charlie’s (or even Cas’s, who is a more obvious comparison) is a red herring—because at its core, the episode is about Sam’s communication issues. It isn’t even about going off or not going off. It’s about simpler issues: like picking up the phone, like talking. Like saying what you mean:
SAM: Got to say, I do feel kind of bad for the Musca. I mean, he could have been happy if he'd stayed with his people. Didn't have to go off on his own just because.. CHARLIE: Okay, I get it. I am just like the bug and I shouldn't go out on my own. But your nifty metaphor has holes. I wasn't looking for love. I found it and I lost it. And I didn't kill people and literally nest in their body parts so...(Scene cuts to other Musca removing the body of the dead one) SAM: Okay, yeah I know, I know, How about this? Don't leave.
Aside/// Cas is literally a defector from the angels, and he’s living in someone else’s body. But while he does struggle at times with longing to be a stand-in for Jimmy, his guilt doesn’t stop him from forming his own bonds. Even his connection with Claire is messy, honest, and uniquely his. It's mired in guilt, not fear. (It can be argued that Cas maybe too fearlessly tries to interact, including giving her a silly gift.)
He's a bit like how Charlie views herself:
CHARLIE: But your nifty metaphor has holes. I wasn't looking for love. I found it and I lost it.
Sam is like that too ofc. He found love and he lost it. The Musca is like Sam in that both feel out of place. The Musca is an outcast, struggling to fit in, just like Sam struggles with with feeling like a freak and with making new connections. I wonder if Sam often feels like "he failed to fly?”
Because of what happened at Stanford (and maybe even with Ruby), maybe Sam doesn’t feel comfortable building relationships on his own anymore. (Bc of his experiences, he also views many of Dean’s friends with cold, logical, uncharitable-but-semireasonable suspicion.)
But overall, it feels like he tends to embed himself into relationships that have already been formed by those he’s close to, like Dean or Mary (BMoL, AU hunters). It’s as if he’s more comfy stepping into pre-existing circles, often finding himself within Dean’s orbit or tied to Cas's extended family (Kelly, Jack, Claire), and even Jody and the girls & the AU hunters.
Sam's past betrayals, especially with Brady and losing Jess, make it hard for him to open up to people outside his family. He’s more comfortable in relationships that are already established by people he trusts, like Dean. This makes them inherently safer. I think work relationships have a similar function in that it creates a bubble of safety around other people's trustworthiness.
In a way, Sam tends to "nest" through the pre-set relationships of others.

Tumblr open-sourcing it’s StreamBuilder Framework is great news, but simultaneously terrifying news.
It’s great because this is one step towards integrating into Mastodon like Matt promised, and it could potentially encourage more third-party apps as well as a better first-party experience.
Its terrifying because Automattic has a reputation of open-sourcing a project before it drops it.
Uncertain, but interesting times with lots of potential ahead of us folks.

Phonetic composition for Wanikani
Remember how I mentioned the book "The Kanji Code" in my lengthy article about on'yomi ("Chinese") readings of kanji?
Turns out the benefits of the book can be had for Wanikani users through the magic of "userscript."
Tumblr media
What's the benefit
So, phonetic composition is how a great many of the kanji you're (supposedly) trying to learn are made. These particular kanji are called 形声 or "keisei" - "form-voice" kanji.
For the "form," they contain a part (often referred to as "radical") that gives you the meaning/semantic category of the kanji, like what the concept is mentally filed under.
For the "voice," they contain another part that hints you at how they are pronounced. It is commonly believed that kanji are only pictorials linked to concepts, but for keisei kanji this is not the case. A big part may not pertain to the meaning at all. Spotting the "voice" part can help you recall the on'yomi sounds of kanji much easier and systematically.
Tumblr media
Yes, this is specifically for the "Chinese" readings. The Japanese readings are words from a language that had nothing to do with the formation of the original hanzi script, after all.
(Examples are in the original article.)
How it works
Websites are rendered by your browser, but how your browser does this can be extended and changed by scripts that rely on the Javascript language. Nowadays browsers like Chrome or Firefox allow you to install "extensions" that do various jobs for you - blocking ads, returning the ability to copy/paste to pages that block it, etc.
Wanikani, the kanji-learning website, incorporated early on support for so-called userscripts, both a blessing and a curse. Curse because whenever they want to change something on the website, a very vocal userscript culture will complain about breaking their stuff. Blessing because it allows you to extend what WK can do.
Tumblr media
How it's done
You can basically follow the guide here, but I must admit I failed to do so because I think something's missing.
What you do is this:
Install Tampermonkey (guide) - this is the basic engine.
Install WK Open Framework (guide) - this is Wanikani's own script support.
Install Keisei support (guide)
Now, if this worked, you should see something like this on various pages - for kanji readings and radicals:
Tumblr media
This will tell you if a phonetic component is present in your kanji or if it is itself present in another kanji as a phonetic component. The readings printed in bold are readings still used for that kanji, others listed are merely present in phonetic components but not in the original kanji. Because history.
It also shows you cases where the link is weakened because the pronunciation changed - in the example you see this marked in red. Basically there is a grading system (so far I've seen "heaven", "above", "middle", and "below").
A Caveat
There's only one caveat. Tampermonkey is very powerful. You need to trust the scripts you install, because it could potentially alter what you see on websites or enter/submit stuff for you.
On Chrome there is a good solution for this. When you click on the "Extensions" icon in the top right, you can select "This can read and change site data" from the three dots behind Tampermonkey.
I recommend doing it like this:
Select "On all Sites" during the installing of the WK Open Framework and the "Keisei" support script. (Else the install links have a habit of not working on Chrome.)
Then change it back to "When you click the extension".
Now go back to a tab with Wanikani open. Go back to "Extensions -> This can read and change site data" and select "On wanikani.com".
Congrats! Now Tampermonkey is only enabled on Wanikani by default.
Alternatively, use it in a separate browser. I haven't found an easy way to restrict permissions on Firefox, for example. But if you use it in a separate browser that you only use for Wanikani, you should be good.

must be nice having friends and not people who are friendly but mostly ignore you
not as if I'm good at being a friend (too self-centred can't shut up about fandoms hardly anyone seems to even have heard of over here) but in every social situation I've ever been in the others always seem to end up hanging out and talking outside the framework while nobody reaches out to me or seems interested in me when I'm not around
(waiting for rehearsal/d&d/etc to begin)
"hi how are you what have you been doing? oh that's cool"
(short conversation)
(more people arrive activity starts)
"well now you don't exist except when we interact within this event's context)
theatre is supposed to be full of like-minded nerdy people, d&d is literally spending two hours making up a story together and sharing jokes and emotional investment
why can none of that ever seem to translate over?
and playing without our usual dm is really highlighting that I don't even fit as a fictional team member without someone making sure to include me

donghua lb introducing himself to qiu shenji for the first time since he was turned and qsj's first comment to him therefore being "so it is you" is just so full of irony on rewatch.
I wonder if qsj had reacted in almost any way other than how he actually did if lb would have admitted his actual identity, but qsj (for obvious reasons) did not want to risk attracting treason accusations. and answering any way other than he did to lb's questions of loyalty was too risky. qsj's had to turn hard to the world and that means not revealing weaknesses, regardless of his actual thoughts on the empress and the li family. and, of course, lb takes that with a sense of betrayal. the one person he thought could be in his corner is not willing to be. it's the first time we truly see lb looking so lost in the series and on first watch we have incredibly little context.
but just thinking about how the first and last meetings we see between lb and qsj in the present timeline are about lb presenting himself as an identity to qsj and how differently those two instances spin out. and the main thing that has changed for the audience between the two is knowing the context. knowing the history between the two, knowing why lb cares for this person we've been told is responsible for such indiscriminate death, knowing that he already holds such guilt over messing things up before, and yet here he is again, unable to change anything? that's what makes the reveal to qsj hit.
