Hello! I've always been fascinated with fairy and folk tales, but I've mostly only read online analyses (and The Book of Lost Things with the commentary at the end). Do you have any beginner book recommendations on fairy tale analysis? I can read in French or in English.
Hello! Well given when it came to truly studying fairytales I did it in the context of French literary fairytales, I will give you some stuff about French literary fairytales... and in French Xp For the rest I don't have any specific reference per se...
But already I can tell you, you can find a lot of academic works online for free - which is truly a life-saver! Maybe you already know of those but I will profit of this ask to talk about it again - there's the Féeries academical review, which is an official publication for thorough and scholarly articles about various literary fairytales of France, from the 17th to the 20th century. And it is fully ENTIRELY online on OpenEditions. Each issue has its own theme, from the Oriental Fairytale , to the humor in fairytales, passing by the intertextual references of the Grimm fairytales and fairytales in cinema.
However Féeries does not explore "folk fairytales" and doesn't have a folkloric approach to fairytales, only a literary one... In general when you go around the Internet, a lot of articles about fairytales are on Persée or on Fabula.org. Like a LOT a lot. Just Google any fairytale within these websites and you have a shit ton of things.
All of that being said, when it comes to books per se... I always recommend starting with a good version of the text with good annotations and nice commentary. When it comes to French literary fairytales, the best ones are the Honoré Champion editions of Charles Perrault's Contes (commented by Tony Gheeraert, who has an entire blog about his analysis of French literary fairytales) and of madame d'Aulnoy's own Contes (commented by Nadine Jasmin). Now, recently an absolute ultimate edition of ALL the French literary fairytales of the "Golden Age" with extended academic commentary was released by Honoré Champion "La Bibliothèque des Génies et des Fées", but it costs a FREAKIN HELL LOT OF MONEY... So the "standard" Honoré Champion editions are quite fine.
Nadine Jasmin also wrote THE big complete academic analysis book about madame d'Aulnoy's fairytales (she is considered the current expert on the domain) - "Naissance du conte féminin. Mots et merveilles: les contes de fées de Mme d'Aulnoy" (again, Honoré Champion.
There's more books I can advise you to check out but I am running a tad bit of time now so I'll add this in a reblog

As an artist, I’m inspired by the heart and emotions. People start as strangers, but when you truly connect, they become so much more.👩‍🎨💖 "Flocks of Fortune" reflects that deep connection.🔗 The lovebirds symbolize true love, mates for life, and the profound bonds that shape our lives.🦜💘💑 Just as the birds surround the girl, they represent the way people enter our lives, shifting our perspectives and creating lasting impact.💗🥰 Flocks of Fortune is a celebration of those extraordinary connections that enrich us.🫶💞
This beauty will be available as an open-edition print on November 22 at my website, www.camilladerrico.com.🙌🎉

Most thorough overview of Xu Haofeng's writing career I've seen. Interestingly much of the some of the other better materials I have found on him are also in French.

I remember when i was heavily addicted to c.ai, it was really bad and definitely didnt help with the shit mental state i had back then.
I remember a friend once reccomending it to me and me then checkinf it out, talking to one character, and then got bored and didnt use the app for a while
Then a few months later, i openedit up again and discovered i could make my OWN bots on there, and thats when it started.
I would talk for hours to my own ocs, but the ai could never really get them right, which is why i spend even more time on it trying to perfect them. It got me that dopamine hit but i always felt bad after, because instead of actually working on my story, i was wasting time on character ai
After some big changes happened and i got into a much safer and better environment i decided it was time to pull myself together. I deleted all the chats i had with my bots (including the ones i made), made the ones i created private bc for some reason c.ai doesnt allow you to delete them, i deleted my account, i deleted c.ai from my history and tried to for once make my own stuff instead of relying on a robot.
Ill be honest, i did relapse on day and made a new account, but that same day i deleted it again. Since then, ive had a lot of urhes to make a new account (especially at times when im bored to death) but i thankfully had enough willpower
Im so glad im not on there anymore because deleting it has improved not only my writing skills, but also my sleep schedule and my grades
Tumblr media
btw I hate character ai for all the AI reasons but I do also think you should hate character.ai for hijacking the social rewards system of a million teenager's brains. that shit is poison and im not exaggerating

A bit out of the blue, but I just want to share that "Anne Boleyn and the «Entente Évangélique»" by Eric W. Ives is a great article about Anne as a reformer, and the connection between French and English reform: books(.)openedition(.)org/irhis/1478
i have read it a few times. but thank you for thinking of me! <3

Guest contribution by Professor Eric Rodríguez Ochoa: "A critical reflection on the intersection between bioethics and biopolitics in the age of biopower"
Tumblr media
The essay presented here reached me as a "message from the interstellar space of the Internet". Fortunately, Professor Ochoa had received my "message in a bottle" and asked if I could publish a guest contribution from him on my site. Of course, I was very happy to meet this request, as it also turned out that we both share a preference for discourse analysis and Michel Foucault's concept of power. At this point I would also like to express my thanks for the letter of invitation from the Association Française pour la Recherche critique en Philosophie et Théologie: Perspectives Académiques.
But to introduce the author of the guest article a little first. Eric Rodríguez Ochoa is a philosopher, theologian, criminology and psychoanalysis theorist, university professor, researcher and writer. He is a member of the Center for Philosophical-Cultural Studies of the Latin American Political Science Association of the Mexican Society of Philosophy Students. He is also known as an F.I. Criminology at the Research Partner Tales Association of the Complutense University of Madrid, University of Buenos Aires (Argentina). Ochoa is a member of the Latin American Network for Patristic Studies, Research Fellow and Editor of La Fundación Filosófica, Quito (Ecuador). He is involved in The Ludwig Wittgenstein Project, Milan (Italy) and Director of the Association Française pour la Recherche critique en Philosophie et Théologie: Perspectives Académiques, via OpenEdition e Hypothèses, Paris (France). He is also a writer in PALABRA, cultural supplement of El Vigía newspaper, Ensenada BC. (Mexico).
So all in all a competent specialist author on questions of the concept of "biopower" coined by Foucault, which he describes "in the last chapter Law over Death and Power to Life of his book The Will to Knowledge (1977)". "It's about creating a new kind of power mechanism [...] While power was previously derived from death, power is now developing whose central focus is life" (https://de.wikipedia.org/ wiki/organic power).
I was interested in this topic because it puts questions about ethics for artificial intelligence in a completely new light for me. But let's now let Professor Ochoa have his say.

Qu’est-ce qu’un lieu de savoir ? - OpenEdition Press
See on Scoop.it - Insect Archive
