North American & Pelican Nebula Better stars make better images.... here is a reprocess of last year's data plus an additional 30 min taken this year. The 30 min didn't add much, but better processing tequniques did. M 16, the Eagle nebula. Located about 5700 light years away in the constellation Serpens. This nebula contains several starforming regions contain about 8100 stars and has an age estimated to be around 1-2,000,000 years old. The Hubble space telescope has some wonderful photographs of the central region of this nebula that has been dubbed “the pillars of creation.” So called because of numerous protostar globules that have been discovered there. North American & Pelican Nebula - Wanted to go back and attempt some new palette options since I am using a duo-band filter with the L-eNhanced. I extracted Ha & Oiii channels in Astro Pixel Processor, and then used the Extract Ha-Oiii Mono option to give a luminance, or in this case, simulate a substitute for a Sii channel. I used the HOss blending method - assigning the Ha and Oiii extractions to the Red Channel, then the Ha-Oiii extraction to both the Green and Blue channels. This was all done in APP. I then processed the image in Photoshop. Mosaic in Cygnus - Sadr Region I have been learning how to process by removing stars and adding them back in later and it had been a gamechanger. Typically this has been a straight forward reprocess but for this image, being so large, it was near impossible to clean up the stars from the original edit. Tried starting from scratch but didn't work well, then something clicked last night and I spent 2 hours for 4 edits (processes take a long time on a 10gb PSB file!). In the end. I was able to clean up the stars and get this as a final product. . NGC 7822 - The Question Mark Nebula This nebula is found in the constellation Cepheus. This is another target inspired by @robert_leach90 that I was finally able to get started on. Because it's more North then East, this is currently a difficult target for me, and that doesn't include the clouds I had rolling in! Homunculus Nebula. Located about 7,500 light years from earth. This feature was formed by a massive gas ejection from the star Eta Carinae dubbed 'The Great Eruption'. Which was observed on Earth between 1838-1845. How incredibly awesome it would have been to witness and record such an event. At the time, this event resulted in Eta Carinae becoming the second brightest star in the sky after Sirius. This near supernova explosion produced two polar lobes (known as a bipolar nebula), and a large but thin disk, all moving outward at up to 670 km/s!! NGC 7822 - The Question Mark Nebula I attempted this target earlier in the year using the L-eNhance filter and once I got the L-eXtreme I wanted to give it another go. Captured over 3 nights at the end of imaging sessions, I was able to capture 4.5 hours and it blows my 3 hours with the L-eNhance away. M31 - The Andomeda Galaxy I have been attempting processes of this target since I began dabbling in astrophotography, 10 months on this data imparticular. Many people have given me tips and ideas, and they have all helped, but learning how to remove stars to process the target and the stars separately has finally given me a final product I am happy with. Images were stacked in DeepSkyStacker, initial color balance and stretch in Siril. Used Siril to help balance background. Processed in Photoshop. . The Elephant's Trunk Nebula - IC 1396 As a very popular, and large area for astrophotographers, of course I gave it a go last year, but was disappointed with how my processing ended up. With that said, if you follow my Instagram, you know I have been going back and reprocessing data I have taken with much better and cleaner results. This is just under 2 hours of data taken last year under a moon at around 45% luminosity. This year I plan on taking images under much darker skies! I am really happy with my new technique for removing stars so I can process the nebulosity separately and then add the stars back in (I can also process the stars!) . A reprocess of my Sadr Region & Crescent Nebula data from last Summer - Sadr is the second brightest star in the constellation Cygnus, second only to Deneb. Like Deneb, it is surrounded by beautiful nebula! With this particular image, I processed it in Astro Pixel Processor by extracting the narrowband color channels - Ha, Oii and Sii (Ha-Oiii Mono) and then combining them to create an image in a simulated SHO, aka "Hubble Palette." Since I am using a color camera, it is not a true SHO image, but since I am using a dual narrow band filter, it is a pretty accurate representation. I have had three clear nights within the last week and I feel truly blessed (and tired) because of it. The Bubble Nebula - NGC 7635 I've been shooting this target for a while now in a widefield format -> 480mm, 380mm, and 275mm. Now I've shot it at around 1400mm. I finally got another filter drawer and I decided to test out how long I could shoot using just a guidescope and the longest comfortable time was around 180s. I plan on returning the Canon to the Raptor but I'm glad I was able to get the EdgeHD 8 figured out for the most part. . The Andromeda Galaxy - m31 If you follow me you know that m31, along with the Orion Nebula is one of my great nemesis. I never can seem to get it "right," and to get it better you "need" to do some sort of HDR composite or such. Since I am trying to learn Pixinsight, I decided to throw myself a curveball and attempt adding in Ha from data taken with and L-eXtreme filter with the data I took last year. Unfortunately, the data taken with the L-eXtreme was botched due to a floating piece of dust that moved from frame to frame. Regardless, I gave it a go! Thanks to a tutorial by Visible Dark, I had a direction to take. It's not perfect, it needs more and better Ha data, and I probably need to retake my L-Pro data, but for a first go, I'll take it. .
