She's a tall glass of rosey goodness from the early 2000s, but this blogger thinks the scent still holds up today. Welcome to Pink Week here at HYSTP!!
Irresistible Eau de Parfum by Givenchy, a charming, fruity, musky, and woody floral. This 80ml bottle was my first excursion into the world of fragrance. Saturn had placed his throne on my ascendant when I had come across Irresistible. I was on Christmas Break after overhauling my life and moving into an apartment in a city for university. After such a big change, I craved something with substance and longevity. The lady who donned an accent and bright lipstick at the Macy’s perfume counter held it in her hands. She had brought me all the different Irresistible varieties, but what struck me about the EDP version was the tart top note. I had originally recognized this as raspberry, but it was a crisp pear.
The notes are as follows:
Top: Pear & Ambrette (Musk Mallow)
Middle: Rose & Iris
Base: Cedarwood & Blond wood
Before we dive into the breakdown of each note and how I experience it, there are a couple things we must cover. First, Irresistible is regarded as a spring and summer scent and I disagree. I can see spring, but in my opinion, it could be a little too sweet for the heat. I associate this perfume with Saturn because besides the alignment I was going through at the time of purchase, it rules Aquarius which has associations with the pear. Saturn is not only bitter, but cold; an astrological signifier for when you may wear it. The planet Venus is commonly associated with sour and tart things, so spring is a reasonable time to wear it as well. Second and lastly, this is not your average “pretty girl” perfume. She is not hot, she is not cute, she is irresistible.
Today is a cooler summer day, sitting around 79 degrees Fahrenheit, and I sat in air conditioning while experiencing this perfume. Therefore, it may read much differently in the humid air, perhaps the fruity and floral notes would be stronger, but because this does not feel like summer to me and I don’t wear it in the heat, I just don’t know.
Unlike Chypress by Floris, my previous review, the atomizer on this bottle is fantastic. There is full coverage here. Whereas Chypress was a light mist, this was a light drizzle. There was much more product leaving the bottle than expected. Upon application to my wrist, the pear arose and sparkled. It was fresh and green, but not juicy, perhaps dewy instead. The freshness was not a breeze moving through translucent drapes, but the frosty tingles that hit the back of your throat when drinking a Japanese soda. The ambrette here works like a transition accord. The train left the station at pear and stopped at a cabbage patch doll head before arriving at its next destination, floral station.
As soon as the middle notes touched down, I breathed a sigh of appreciation. I forgot how much I enjoyed this fragrance. If one could feel like Crazy-In-Love Watercolor Blush by Too faced, this is the transformative vehicle allowing you to do so. A quilt made specifically for greeting mother nature with tea and a book. A chess game against your crush in your rose garden. You’re wearing a sheer, pink dress over a vanilla cream turtleneck and he compliments you. Your eyes, blurry, full of sparkles smeared on the inner corner by a pinky painted lilac. Here in the middle notes, the roses are caressed by iris, a wonderful pairing. I prefer florals to gourmands, but they are not my favorite accord. The two florals swirl together agreeably, creating a petal soft aroma, nothing is sharp in this garden.
Irresistible in its base notes is no longer in the form of mist or powder, it’s solid. It develops balmy and warm. It lives on the skin like ointment, where sunshine becomes glittering snow and flowers grow into tall, spiky trees. The snow dusts the cabin in late January and melts wet in February, causing wooden steps to creak more than they did prior. Your lover, who you met many seasons ago in a remote farmhouse, carries his fishing pole to the lake in front. This fragrance, in its most final form is sap covered branches, where icicles evanesce and sunny, brown furs reign supreme. A beautiful, syrupy musk.
Final Notes:
This perfume at first glance looks like a modern, chic woman, but when given time, it is that woman in all stages. It’s her innocence, it’s her carrying a fruit cup of sticky pears in one hand and her doll with curly hair in the other. It’s her coming of age and adolescence, the blush she spreads across smooth skin and appears naturally when she looks at flowers she was given. It’s her independence, the open world both an intimidating permafrost and a welcoming embrace.
Irresistible lasts incredibly long. On skin I give it 8-12 hours, on clothes I give it until you wash it next. This smells incredible on a sweater in the winter. I still recall when my cat would loaf up on my sweatshirt and when he would go see my brother, my brother would tell me he knew he came from my room because he “smelled like it.” Projection wise, I’d estimate say a good 1-2 feet.
Final Rating: 5/5
Astrology Placements this fragrance reminds me of:
Where Saturn is most comfortable: Libra, Aquarius, Capricorn (Rising, Venus, Mars, and Saturn)
Strong Saturn in general
Venusians (Taurus, Libra, potentially Pisces if one has strong Saturn)
Photos are mine, do alert me if you see them used elsewhere, thank you!
One thing about me, I'm always wearing the best of the best.
Tonight I'm going out in a Givenchy tuetleneck, Hermés loafers, cream linen pants from Ermenegildo Zegna.
When I pull up to the function, and step out of the limousine and the cameras start flashing... take a deep breath. I'm sure to be wearing something mysterious. Inviting. Deeply irresistible. Something like:
LOTD: Dior Addict Shine Lipstick in 211 Jardin Dore in Tuileries Case (both limited edition Holiday 2023 collection) with Charlotte Tilbury Lip Lustre in Ibiza Nights. #Scentoftheday Irresistible EDP by Givenchy.
Oooh thank you, this one is so fun! I know very little about fragrance, so I had to really think on this one. My own signature scent is Givenchy's Very Irresistible which I've been wearing since college. I don't wear it much, though. Working from home and having friends with fragrance sensitivities means I don't often get the chance to spritz up!
15. What cologne or perfume they would use
Oh, Jesus, Eddie. My love. My buddy. My dude. My guy. I'm so sorry, but you 100% bought some extremely cheap drugstore cologne to cover your BO the first time it was pointed out to you, gently, by Wayne. Rather that, you know, just taking his advice and using deodorant to start. Axe, but make it 80s (so probably the knock-off version of Drakkar Noir. Hurl.) As you grew older, you discovered patchouli, probably, because you smoke marijuana and Reefer Rick strikes me as a guy who has a lot of incense burning.
Adult-Eddie has overcome his early-in-life travails and uses standard soap and deodorant, thanks. Turns out, Wayne was right: showering more than once a week does way more than a boatload of Old Spice.
As for Miss Chris, she got started on Love's Baby Soft because that is who she was as a person. Mmm, Humbert Humbert's character condensed into a single television commercial!
I think older Chrissy probably flirts with Obsession and Poison before settling on something simple and classic for every day--not too heavy, maybe she finds Clinique's Happy in the 90s? Her grown-up signature fragrance would be a classic like Chanel No. 5, which is expensive, so she has a bottle she hoards and only uses for special occasions. (Extremely special, as in Eddie has a Pavlovian response every time he smells it.)

♡ ◞ 𝑩𝑰𝑶𝑮𝑹𝑨𝑷𝑯𝒀 , 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘺 .
born in istanbul , aiyla was the daughter to two very successful people . her father , malik , was a former business tycoon who made his way onto the political circuit and her mother , yasemin , used to model for high end designers but is now running her own charity organisations .
moving to the united states was a decision malik made in order to further his political career as well as strengthen ties for his business .
initially aiyla disliked her new home , the culture shock was intense and she missed her extended family in istanbul . but determination to make it in a foreign country was all that drove her , she wasn’t concerned with the fame , fortune or prestige that her parents had . instead aiyla wanted to do what she felt passionate about , regardless of whether or not it’d gain her notoriety .
aiyla grew up watching her older brothers vying for her father’s attention , each of them undertaking studies that they thought would look promising in his eyes and gain them praise and adoration . more than often malik was cold , harsh and uncaring , most of it directed at his youngest , aiyla . he felt disappointed that she didn’t aim for the same studies or occupations as her brothers did , one’s malik viewed as admirable and worth his acknowledgement .
malik and yasemin sözeri died while on their way to venice , malik had just been elected as his states governor and was joining his wife on her trip to italy for a celebration for her charity . their plane had a systems malfunction and crashed into the ocean , leaving no survivors . the siblings went to italy to identify the remains and wreckage , the eldest of her brothers demir id’d their parents . ( plot twist ..... they’re alive .. )
aiyla was eleven when her parents died , being left to be raised by her brothers and parents friends . the last interactions she had with her parents weren’t the greatest , her father and her arguing , him telling her she’d never amount to anything and that she was a disappointment . while her mother pleaded with aiyla to stop angering her father and to walk away to lessen the damage to their relationship , promising they’d sort it out when they returned .
after the accident her brothers started to grow distant , each focusing on their own careers . during this time aiyla focused on school , once graduating she took on the sözeri foundation in honour of her mother . she focused largely on humanitarian work and philanthropy .
she started acting to pay bills , even though she was technically loaded she wanted to earn her own money . she had pointers from her grandmother who was a famous turkish movie star and aiyla’s notoriety grew from her first film .
♡ ◞ 𝑴𝑶𝑹𝑬 , 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘩𝘦𝘢𝘥𝘤𝘢𝘯𝘰𝘯𝘴 .
doesn’t care about her fame all that much , you’ll one hundred percent find her out and about doing mundane things . but it’s also because she doesn’t quite understand the level of her popularity either .
she uses her appearances and social media accounts to advertise important charities and bring attention to conflicts in foreign countries and their displaced citizens .
wants to do more movies in turkish , has only done one thus far .
has citizenship in the united states , turkey and cambodia ( this was awarded to her in recognition of her environmental and conservation work in the country . )
aiyla has walked in new york fashion week as well as fashion week in milan , media drawing comparisons to her late supermodel mom .
