illario as the grandchild that is most like caterina is something i'm loving to chew on. the grandson that took her lessons to heart the most. kill anyone who sees your face and knows your name, "we are not revolutionaries", the first out of the two to prioritise the contract. power at any cost, and the only one to lean into the unnecessary abuse that their grandmother told them was tradition. why is anyone surprised he allied with the venatori? and then there's illario's considerable skill in infiltration and manipulating any mark, he has always had the charisma that lucanis lacked. illario isn't attached, he has/can/will use someone and immediately drop them; "that does free me from promises i don't intend to keep". he can lie about how much he cares so well that he fools a magister into believing he loves her. he kills zara without hesitation to cover his own tracks, meanwhile lucanis blindly promises a young girl in the middle of a siege that he will help her find her father. even the lessons about family stick with him, and in this entire messy power struggle, he never actually orders anyone to directly kill caterina or lucanis, not until he's backed into a corner.
and even after all that. despite even lucanis believing illario should be first talon, lucanis is still the better killer. illario is not strong enough to be the brutal assassin caterina needs him to be. so when lucanis seems to fill the role his mother left, grief and love for her dead heir apparent remains, and any of the other qualities caterina needs in her next talon doesn't matter. whatever his mother was, lucanis has to be. what illario does doesn't matter, because he will always be second best to caterina's memory of her favored daughter.

Personally I think the genius of I Want to Unify The Kingdom But the Second Male Lead Is Too Indecent is the theme of self reflection and improvement running through the series.
Like how Dickington is forced to confront the error of his old ways through Daleton and Princess Bridgerton realises that she was always more capable than she was given credit for, she was just told she couldn’t do it until she eventually began to believe it, and only realises how capable she is and gains confidence when thrust into a position of power
It’s why the flashbacks in season 2 are so important, their pre-isekai lives explain so much about why they behave the way they do and adds so much depth and nuance to their characters!!
Even the pants guy having an existential crisis about the significance of his old job now he’s able to see how his work as a pants guy directly and tangibly helps people (not to see Daleton’s penis), while played for laughs, ties into this theme.

tbh if you worry about people secretly disliking or being annoyed by you despite reassurance to the contrary AND you are someone who says "no worries" or "its okay" when there are worries and it isn't okay, those two things are extremely correlated. idk enough about the human brain to claim a causal relationship but just from personal experience it is much easier to accept that other people aren't just placating you and mean what they say if you yourself stop responding to everything with platitudes you don't mean just to avoid conflict. btw the easiest way to stop doing this is not to have the awareness in the moment that's what you're doing (that will come with time and practice) but rather later when you're annoyed and justifying to yourself why they should Just Know it's not okay because of xyz subtle social cues, you have to stop yourself then. and you have to recognize that that's a deeply unfair way to treat someone. and if you aren't able, for whatever reason, to reach out to them and say "hey i know i said everything was fine but it really isn't and i would like something to change", then at the VERY LEAST you MUST be able to say "well I told them it's okay so until such time as I am ready to retract that and discuss this openly, it will have to be okay". this goes quadruple if someone's behaviour is annoying you and you're acting annoyed but when asked directly you go "haha no its fine!" like idc what cues you're using it will never be enough to counter that you directly told them that behaviour is fine with you. it is unfair and cruel to enforce boundaries you never communicated. you cannot tell people how much you love being a doormat and then get mad when they walk over you. and going back to the original point of this post, you will NEVERRR believe that others mean what they say if you never mean what you say. i know we're all just joking around but mentalities like "[throwing up blood angrier than ive ever been in my life] haha sounds good!!" are poisoning you they are ruining your relationships. conflict avoidance is so alluring but all it ever breeds is resentment. if you tell someone there's nothing to worry about, that is how they will act. and that's how they SHOULD act. if you say everything's fine when it isn't, YOU are the one in the wrong, YOU are the one who isn't communicating effectively enough, and the onus is on YOU to fix it or live with it. if you ever ever ever want to believe that people mean what they say, you have to start by meaning what YOU say.

First off this absolutely cursed AU was inspired by Lemonomelette and a post they made -X Secondly I imagine it all being about bots and cons trying to one up each others factions and not actually helping in any serious way because their too busy with their own faction bs.
Think of two rival car dealerships across the street one upping each other to get business and instead of business with cars its interstellar robot fairys trying to woo sm children to let them grant their inconsequential wishes (which may or may not be worth it) instead of the other guy next door.

Apparently both in a recent panel and one of those post-finale DMs Amanda Overton did, Silco threw that molotov on the bridge because Benzo was being arrested. In fact when Silco said, "You never did know when to walk away", he was referring to that time.
Can I just say I would love a Zaun prequel series, because every new tidbit I learn about Silco and Vander's friend group is insanely toxic in a way I just bet the writers never intended. This new information is only funny for me because I always hc'ed that Benzo was a hater, and honestly the fact he took Vander's side after in light of all of this proves it to me.

Shut the fuck up! 🤢 The Democratic Party stands for: economic opportunity for the poor (which a majority of Chasidim are btw), racial justice (which Jews have always been a part of, as recipients and activist allies), LGBT rights (which most Jews approve of), environmentalism (literally a core tenet of Judaism), pluralism/democracy/the rule of law (a thing that 99% of American Jews proudly support), I could go on? Like I really could.
This reminds me of an interview I saw years ago where a man was talking to Likkud voters and he interviewed a woman in Ashkelon and she kept saying "Bibi keeps us safe [from Hamas rockets]" and the interviewer asked "is there anything another party could do to sway your vote?" and she cut him off and said "nothing, nothing, only our safety matters."
But at least then, you know Bibi is also a Jew, and has a vested interest in the security of his fellow Jews. He may be a corrupt criminal and possibly a monster, but he will never be insincere about keeping his people safe. I can understand why Likkud voters can put everything else to the side if that's what they care about most. What the fuck does the Republican Party, the party that happily hosts Nazis and radical Christians who make supercessionists look like unhinged philosemites, offer to Jews? How are they keeping Jews safe when it's clear their real goal is to use Jews as a sword and shield to consolidate power and hurt their personal enemies?
Do you really want to be the cynical bargaining chip of delusional Christians? Isn't there more to living a Jewish life and being part of a Jewish community?
Trump's stupid ass deport Hamas students plan solves a very current problem that helps a few thousand Jewish college students, maybe it helps discourage the constant marches that incite harassment and property damage, literal hate crimes? But in the long run, especially with his "Shalom Mahmoud" shit, he is putting a target on Jews' backs and the Republican Party as an establishment cannot make a significant dent in American antisemitism, even if they were sincere. This is just a drop in the bucket. They welcomed the Tate brothers back to America with open arms??
They can't actually quell leftist antisemitism (they might make it worse) and they have zero interest in dissuading rightist antisemitism. The Democratic Party also couldn't do all this alone. And I'll grant, whatever side of the aisle you're on, you're going to inherently view the other side's messaging as disingenuous at best. Republicans think Democrats' messaging about the poor, racial equality, etc. is all virtue signaling and often "the real racism" etc.
You might not see how that for the majority of Jews who are on the left side of the aisle, they see the same thing when a Republican starts grandstanding about antisemitism. They're not likely to abandon the rest of their values for this illusion of safety. There are millions of Jews in Israel who refuse to vote for Likkud for similar reasons, and they're frankly in more danger and their right wing nutjob politicians actually want to keep them safe and actually can do something about it at the level of the State. Likkud doesn't punish Jews who are "disloyal." Why would American Jews give up even more for even less?
Utterly moronic.
