The Boys S4: Is it just me or...

Okay, anyone who knows me knows I love this show. And I don't mean to be overly critical, but...there's something missing for me in season 4. 🤔

Episode 4 brought me back in a bit more this week, but I have thoughts and just wanted to get them out. Which of course you don't have to agree with, if you so choose to dive below the cut. 😂

So here we go! Highlights and lowlights (and **spoilers**): ⤵️

Sorry in advance for my slightly stream of conscious-style thought process.

Lowlights (so far):

Kimiko x Frenchie: Violently pushing down something you built up for 2.75 seasons? Because "being more than that/family" can also be romantic? Why do you hate the fans, Kripke? 😂

The political "satire" is getting a bit old for me. A lot of the same jokes over and over. However, the problem of taking out Victoria Neuman is a very intriguing conundrum (and Bob Singer sweating over it while trying to keep supes out of the military/law enforcement is keeping me hooked).

THAT Rob scene: lmfao come on now. This was for gross shock value and nothing else. Even the exploding dick and Love Sausage in S3 served a narrative purpose. (But I enjoyed the footnote commentary while watching it on Prime: Rob B. apparently wants to remind everyone that he's a Shakespearean-trained actor. 🤣) I’m actually more disappointed that he didn’t have a more meaningful role in the show, because he really is a fantastic actor and I was looking forward to seeing what his character would bring. (Not that lmao.)

Overall, the season just feels...emptier than seasons 1-3? Maybe that has to do with the lack of Soldier Boy's gravitas as a new antagonist, and connecting the entire narrative and various conflicts of the season -- all while shedding light on the grisly past of Payback, Grace Mallory, and Stan Edgar. Stormfront also brought that ante up in season 2 in a similar way, all while shedding light on Vought's sordid history with the creation of Compound V.

We're missing the layers here in season 4. Now, this could just be because we haven't seen the full season yet as well, but that's what I see so far.

I think it also has to do with the odd dynamic the boys side is in right now. With Butcher on the fringe of the group, and the others splintered off on their own side plots, it feels like the supes' side of things are more...for lack of a better term, "unified" in the narrative.

Which I realize is probably to reverse parallel the state of each side in season 3. But it just feels "off" to me somehow, since we're supposed to be just as invested in the boys side lol.

Highlights:

Butcher and Ryan: Butcher's doing his best there now, and it soothes my heart.

Ryan's slowly seeing the consequences of his choice to join Homelander. In fact, I'm wondering where Ryan is in episode 4. Hiding in his room?

The Khan Worm that appears to be inside Butcher is both frightening and intriguing. I wonder if this is the key to saving his life? Or just another lovely side effect of taking V24 long term. 🐛

JDM (Joe) and Butcher: All their scenes were golden. And that subtle John Winchester reference? Being willing to train up his son to be a killer? Being able to grieve at his son's funeral, knowing he "saved the world?" *Chef's kiss* 🤌🏽

(And if Butcher or Joe end up being the one to break Soldier Boy out of his cryo coffin, my fangirl heart will freak TF out. 🤣)

The way that Homelander is noticing his age is fucking hilarious. Bet you wish you had that life longevity from your father/sperm donor, dont'cha? 😂

But also the way Homelander "confronted" his past in E4 had some truly WTF/Holy Shit™️ moments, in a good way. As in, I'm once again afraid of this unhinged psychopath--kind of way. 😅

A-Train continuing to struggle internally with the place he's fought so hard to keep in the Seven, versus recognizing the evil around him, his own complicity, wanting forgiveness from Hughie, and wanting a true connection with others (namely his family).

It's interesting that Hughie's mom is being brought back in at this time. And even MORE interesting that she seems to be the one who gave her ex-husband Compound V. Her story of why she left her family seemed so normal that I actually got a little suspicious of her. But now, even more so. 🤨

M.M. doing his fucking best. (Except for the way he suddenly had a change of heart about Butcher in E4. Not sure about that one.)

Tilda effing Swinton voicing Ambrosius. PLEASE. My Queen. 😭🤣🤣

I actually had more lowlights before I watched episode 4. There were some really interesting moments that literally had me gasping in shock (this time in a good way), more so than in the first 3 episodes. However, I still think seasons 1-3 were stronger from the get-go.

But even with my lingering reservations, now I'm actually more so looking forward to getting into the meat of the season in this second-half coming up. 👏🏽

A/N - I’m using Lily Zneimer (no hate to her, she’s adorable), but in this, she needs to look like the reader, so, she doesn’t look like what he actually does, make her up as you feel if you get what I mean. 

Oscar was very much in love with you - it was obvious to anyone and everyone except, well, you it seemed. “Mate, I’m tried of this,” Oscar groaned as Lando rubbed his face wearily. “Mate, tell her how you feel,” Lando said slowly, repeating the same phrase he’d been saying for the past ten minutes. “I can’t, I’m not ruining our friendship if she rejects me,” Oscar mumbled. 

“I can’t do it for you, can I?” Lando sighed, “maybe she’s just oblivious,”. Oscar sighed, shaking his head. “More likely, she doesn’t feel the same way,”. Lando sighed, rubbing his cheek at his teammate. “Evidently, loving her is stopping you from loving anyone else,” Lando said, “if you don’t wanna ask her out and just pine for her, there’s not point,”. 

Lando was right, staying there and just waiting as if a miracle would get you to suddenly fall in love with Oscar wasn’t gonna happen. Not in this world.“Y/N, I wanna introduce you to someone,” Oscar said, walking up behind you as you pulled your headphones off. You were sitting at the pit wall, going through some data, but you looked up, seeing your best friend. 

“Alright,” you followed him as he lead you into the mass of engineers - to a girl. She was beautiful - quite similar looking to you, actually, wearing the same McLaren top and headphones. “Shes an engineer, and my girlfriend,” Oscar said, studying your face for a reaction. You had to physically refrain your face from dropping at the last word. Girlfriend. 

Your best friend who’d never ever dated anyone, the one you had a huge crush on, was dating someone. “So?” Oscar asked, as if asking for approval. “Hi,” you said to her, “you’re very pretty,”. She nodded with a small blush - she was very gorgeous actually. That’s what made it hurt even more. “She’s the same as you, basically,” Oscar said. Wow. Ouch. 

You nodded, before turning to go back to the pit wall, mumbling a ‘bye’ quickly and walking off. “I’ll finish this,” Lily gestured to the pile of work. In truth, Oscar didn’t really like Lily. He was effectively channelling his feelings for you into hurt. It was wrong, he knew that. He was leading her on, basically. But he couldn’t resist. 

“Mate what have you done?” Lando asked, approaching Oscar as Lily walked away. “Hm? Nothing,” Oscar said, frowning to his teammate. “You’re dating Lily,” Lando said, “Oscar she’s exactly like Y/N,”. Oscar turned to Lando. “I’m doing what you said,” he said, a small scoff leaving his lips. “I didn’t say date Y/N’s duplicate!” Lando groaned, “mate, you’ve fucked it all up, haven’t you?” 

Oscar snorted, walking away, but Lando’s words rang in his mind. You’ve fucked it all up. He had, hadn’t he? He’d gone and torn apart your potential feelings for him, if you had any, and dated someone who was just…you. If you did like him, in his mind, it would hurt, right?  But dating you…there’s no man as terrified as the man who stands to lose you.

You read the comments, all of them seemingly hacking. Your own feelings, before turns in your phone off. “Hey, you okay?” a voice said behind you. “I’m alright,” you turned to Lando, shrugging. “Met Lily, yet?” he asked. You nodded, slumming at his words slightly as you plastered a fake smile on your face. 

“She’s just like you,” Lando said quietly. You nodded,d unsure of what to say as he started again, “worryingly like you, Y/N,”. You looked up at his words, cocking your head, slightly. “What does that mean?” you raised an eyebrow. “Figure it out,” Lando said, with a curt nod, before walking away, leaving you alone to think. “What the hell…?” you muttered.

“Mate, if you don’t fucking talk to her, I swear I’m gonna fucking…” Lando groaned as Oscar huffed. “I’m trying! What do I say? I’m dating your dupe?” Oscar rolled his eyes. “I don’t know! I’m playing full time therapist for both of you, and half time F1 driver, I’m done, Oscar!” Lando slammed his phone down. “Look,” he said, picking up once more. “Everyone says it’s a shit move,” he showed Oscar the countless posts about it. 

“I just dump Lily? What if Y/N doesn’t wanna date me?? Oscar said, groaning. “Oh she does. Definitely,” Lando said. “Dump Lily after a week,” Oscar mumbled. “And you’re sure I should?” he asked weakly. “Positive,”. Oscar walked into the garage, seeing Y/N dupe Lily standing at her usual desk. “Need to tell to you,” he muttered as she frowned, looking up at him “I-I think we should…break up,” he added. 

He raised an eyebrow at her expression, not in the slightest confused. “For Y/N?” she asked, a small smile on her face, “I know. I’ve seen how you look at her,”. He was moderately surprised at her reaction as he looked at her, eyes wide. “Just slide me Lando’s number,” she added with a laugh as Oscar chuckled. 

“Y/N, Y/N,” Oscar said, grabbing your arm as you walked down the pitlane. “Oh, hi,” you said, voice monotone. “I broke up with Lily,” he looked almost proud, confusing you ever more. “Why?” you asked, weary still. “Just…I…” he trailed off, realising he needed to admit his feelings now. “Got you,” he mumbled. 

“So you broke a girl’s heart for me?” you asked, tone almost condescending as he looked take aback. “No, no, she was okay with it,” he frowned, still holding onto your arm. “That’s likely,” you muttered, pulling your hand out of his grasp as he his eyebrows creased together further. “What are you doing?” Lando asked, almost sarcastically at Oscar. 

“You dumped Lily…and just went and told her?” Lando scoffed as Oscar flushed. “Sorry I’m not a playboy,” he muttered as Lando rolled his eyes. “Listen, mate, you’ve done nothing but hurt her, why can’t you see that maybe you’re hurting her even more,” Lando gestured to you as you turned your head out of Oscar’s sight.

You stepped back from the Aussie, towards Lando as Oscar blinked. “How am I hurting her more..?” Oscar asked. “Go,” Lando said, pushing you softly back to the pit wall. “You just admitted you dated someone because she was just like Y/N,” Lando said slowly, “what can that insinuate? That, maybe, Y/n wasn’t good enough?”. 

Oscar gulped at his words, his eyes wide. “She is, she’s good enough,” he said quietly. “Then tell her, for fucks’ sake! And maybe the play boy has good advice for once,” Lando muttered as Oscar looked at him sheepishly. “Listen mate, I didn’t mean to call-,” he started but Lando shook his head. “Shush, go to Y/N! Go!”. 

Oscar nodded vigorously, jogging after you as you walked to the pit wall, mind clouded with thoughts. “Y/N!” Oscar said once more, making you slump slightly. “I just…I-I…” he gasped for breath for a second as you gazed at him, almost unimpressed. “I need to say…” he said. “I’ll wait,” you said, almost sarcastically as he panted. 

After a few seconds, he looked up, gulping slightly. “I dated Lily coz I was afraid of asking you to date me and I didn’t know what to do, because I was scared I’d ruin out friendship by asking you out so I asked Lily out and-,” word, he sounded like a high school kid with a crush. “Oscar, stop talking,” you groaned, shaking your head. 

The small squeak he let out when your lips connected to his was muffled slightly, his eyes wide before squeezing shut. “Now go give Lando a few hundred,” you snorted, “we owe him for the therapy,”.

I noticed a rather interesting detail in Horrortale comic.

When the comic first started, some of the characters looked a “little” different. And no, it’s not just about the art style, I think.

Papyrus

Big difference, don't you think? Previously, Papyrus was portrayed as simply out of his mind dummy under the guise of a terrifying monster. Later, he began to be portrayed as much more sane and now he looks and behaves far from being “just a dummy”. What if this is how Aliza saw him? And Papyrus looked much more scarier because she didn't trust him and was afraid of him(well it's clear why).

Sans

Everything is more complicated with him. Since in Aliza’s vision Sans was no longer changing externally, but internally. I mean, unlike Papyrus, Aliza saw him as he “really” is (that is, the same way other monsters and his brother see him). But with the exception of his behavior. Flowey warned Aliza not to get too close to him, which she did. Of course, over time, she still managed to get to know him a little better. And if earlier she portrayed him as a crazy maniac from whom you should stay away, now she sees him as just as terribly hungry as the others, who can no longer restrain himself and secretly wants this madness to end. She understands him and therefore in the last parts of the comics she tried to help him and the rest of the monsters.

Drunk Bunny

Probably the only one who has changed more than the others and, moreover, in reality and not in Aliza’s vision. If you look closely, before both of her eyes were “drunk”. Now one eye has become normal, meaning that she has begun to look at everything that is happening “more soberly.” Which is not surprising, after all, after Aliza stood up for the monsters from Snowdin, hope arose in her again..

Politics Bear

It seems that he just became happier (in reality). In Aliza's vision, she imagined him as the same monster mad with hunger as the others. Previously, in her vision, his teeth were more crooked and his gaze was distraught. Now Aliza sees him even more “bright” than he really is (well, his teeth can’t be that straight?). The bear is happy now. It seems hope has arisen in his soul again..

Aliza really is quite a unique person. In fact, she has a surprising amount of determination. Even when she dies or is in the most hopeless situation at first glance, she always finds a way out. Now I'm really interested in what will happen next. Still, she had enough bravery and kindness to stand up for ALL the monsters in Snowdin, even despite the fact that many of them tried to cook her alive. Aliza is truly have very strong soul. I think that many other people would have fled Snowdin long ago in her place. I think that one of Aliza's goals is to make the monsters regain hope and at least some sanity. Simply put, at least somehow try to establish relationships with them and maybe even make friends. She was able to gain trust from the monsters at Snowdin and it looks like now it’s time for her to go to Waterfall.. And this will DEFINITELY not be easy. Considering WHO might live there.

Now I'm wondering if we'll ever see Gaster in Horrortale comic. 🤔

How Niki acts in romantic relationships

Omg my favorite moody teenager. I haven’t done a reading on him for so long

The eight of wands means Niki likes to take things slow. Very, very slow. Quite often he might be trying to delay the action on purpose to buy some more time to process his feelings. It could also be due to his busy schedule but Niki has some hard time to trust people that he gets into relationships with. He could even panic a little when he catches feelings and leave his love interests on read so he doesn’t have to deal with negative emotions that come with dating someone. Because of his attitude he often looses his chance to date some good people. He feels stoic about this but there’s the ace of pentacles which stands of lost opportunities. I feel like every time he gets a chance to date someone, he does something wrong and he’s single again. I see two scenarios here:

Scenerio number one: everything is moving too fast for Niki, they expect commitment too fast and he catches feelings for someone, he can’t control the situation and runs away because he’s scared

Scenerio number two: he takes things slow because that’s what makes him comfortable, but because of that and his job, his partner loose interest and leaves

Anyway Niki tends to need a lot of time to open up and match someone’s energy. I see here he might be quite the romantic type of a guy but he could be shy about it and hide it from the public. He doesn’t want to be seen like that but that knight of cups stands for romance, not very stable but he has some pure intentions at the bottom of his heart. I think right now he wants to explore more to find out what live really is so even if he is seen with one person in May and hanging out with someone else in June that doesn’t mean he is dating around. He enjoys meeting new people. He rarely catches feelings for them and the relationship doesn’t become anything else but friendship or just an admiration of his crush. Or someone having a crush on him but he doesn’t reciprocate their feelings so he ends the relationship. That’s because deep down he is looking for his soulmate (the judgment). He wants to have this feeling of falling in love at first sight. He is actively looking for his person. Which is funny cause he wants to be swept of his feet but is also scared of falling in love with the wrong person.

Or maybe he wants to find his “soulmate” because he has an excuse to avoid his feelings and commitment? 🤔

y'know, i like to joke about xehanort being nowhere near weak or dying despite his claims to the contrary and the excuse he uses to body hop. like i totally believe he could've held on those 10+ years - guy was just incredibly spry for an old man.

but then the thought arose: what if it really was just about youth? think about it - all the keykids salvaged from the age of fairy tales that he recalled from his connection to the player's heart are far younger than him. and if he even partially wished to spend time with them after he opened kingdom hearts, he most likely would want to be able to interact with them on their level - as peers in the same age range. obviously the youngest is ven, but lauriam, elrena, they're the closer to the target age of his body.

of course somewhere along the way he lost the plot, his desire to see kingdom hearts overriding his desire to connect with others, but im like damn....imagine

One fic (unfinished) that put Thorin in Bilbo's place and so the company of hobbits arrived to Ered Luin to ask for help actually. It started pretty funny but the reason why hobbits asked for help turned out to be grim (unexpected change of tone). But I remembered it because I just thought of this role reversal out of sudden, for funsies. Like dragonsick Thorin banished everyone (let's pretend that dwarves dared to ignore their loyalty to the king in the peak of his madness and stood on Bilbo's side) and sits in Erebor alone now. And so Gandalf decides to ask for audience (well, he has to speak to mad kings all the time). Thorin sends him away quickly. But then the company and Bilbo arrive without permission. And they tell that they need to go back to Shire and save it now. Thorin is getting a little out of the spell of his sickness due to confusion caused by this turn of events. Something to parallel the beginning of auj next, Dain is still staying in charge of Erebor like in canon (sorts out things between dwarves/men/elves), and Dis can join in the end/middle of this absurd story. Maybe even to add the ring to mess up with everyone a little. I don't know what with the Shire though. Not another dragon for sure.
