awl really is just chock-full of little details so i wanted to talk about one jumped out at me now that i've gotten to year 5. mild spoilers for a wonderful life below, ya'll know the drill.

a quick run down for anyone who hasn't played the game yet ; an important peice of furniture in your child's bedroom is their bookshelf, which you can interact with to see what books they have and read excerpts from them. typically, the first book will correspond with what their current highest liked interest is and you'll find a new one to check out with each passing year.

bea's current major interest is in academics so when i checked her bookshelf on day 1 of year 5, the first book really caught my eye.

the wording of the title might be a little confusing at first, (when i looked up chaos training, it seemed to be a method of body building,) but it's definitely a book about chaos theory based off of the excerpt. i don't fully understand chaos theory myself, but in layman's terms, it's an interdisciplinary field of scientific study & mathematics that focuses on the underlying patterns that determine a seemingly random outcome. it sounds really complex and a lot of the jargon flies right over my head, (which goes to show how smart my kiddo is! 😤✨️)

an aspect of chaos theory that people might be more familiar with is the butterfly effect, which is an underlying principle of chaos. it's the idea that one small change to something can end up resulting in a large difference down the line. ya know. like how buying your kid the building blocks from van can potentially result in them pursuing academics as an adult. it's wild how stuff like how often you cuddled your kid as a baby or what items you gifted them as a teen goes on to affect them later on.

i just think it's such a clever detail to have this be a prominent book in bea's bookshelf in year 5, when all the different aspects of your kid's life truly start to come to a head and determine the trajectory of their future. it's really fitting.

30 days of harvest moon day 12 - modern AU / childhood dream

i wanted to draw based on what we know of the bachelors’ childhoods… uh, mostly not very happy stuff it turns out

as hard as i tried i couldn’t find literally anything about gordy’s childhood other than him getting into art as a teenager (and a throwaway line in the original game about his mom using wool clippers to cut his hair?) but i really really wanted to draw him again, so he’s kinda just chillin with these very sad boys. i got the feeling from his dialogue that he feels insecure about being quiet / shy, so i tried to incorporate that a little

Ok folks, I've got a bit of a theory going, indulge me.

So, I am playing the A Wonderful Life remake right now. Loving it. Have lots of screenshots and things to share later... Maybe this is spoilers for cutscenes? So, scroll past if you don't want any of that... When I was playing on the weekend, I triggered a cutscene with nature sprites, I vaguley remembered it from the original, was watching it and then the music started and I was like, hang on a sec, this track isn't from A Wonderful Life?! I found the original cutscene, and in that cutscene they play 'Town Spirit'

But, in the remade version, they play Animals Parade's Goddess Spring music

Its specifically Animal Parades theme too, its not Tree of Tranquility's which has a different goddess spring theme. Now, the most logical conclusion here, (and probably the likely conclusion lmao) is that they maybe didn't think 'Town Spirit' was a very good fit for the vibe here, they have since created better tracks for the Harvest Goddess, so maybe they felt it was just a cute homage or something. But, what if its an easter egg? I just don't really understand why they would change it? Other titles have goddess themes too (Magical Melody, Tree of Tranquility) I haven't seen any other homages (yet) in the form of music from other Harvest Moon titles, and Animal Parade is always one the fans are screaming for a remake of?? Why that theme specifically?? What if, they are working on an Animal Parade remake next.

BUT- I wish all the marriage candidates did an outfit change like Lumina did. It was so cute getting married and having her old appearance and then getting a time jump and her hair is shorter and her outfit a bit more mature. It makes it genuinely feel like time has passed.

i just realized something about the 1st errand event in year 3 when you're married to gustafa...

a funny detail about your kid with him is that they love tomatoes despite the crop being one of his dislikes. so when your kid thinks he's sick and wants to get him some fresh veggies to help, they probably thought "i'll get gustafa a fresh tomato because they're super tasty, i bet that'll make him feel a lot better!" and gustafa just gladly accepts it with a smile on his face. because, in that moment, it doesn't matter that he dislikes tomatoes, he's just so happy to know that his kid loves and cares for him.....
