for real tho? especially if you consider tachibana kiryu’s equivalent to makoto in majima’s side of the story, i really believe something in kiryu snapped when tachibana died just as much as something did in majima later on when makoto got shot– if not more. the mad dog persona was a conscious choice that didn’t come about the second majima snapped and fought everyone tojo hq, but kiryu was straight up ready to kill a man by the time he was fighting shibusawa, no persona or anything to blame it on. arguably he went off the rails way sooner and held it together for way less time than majima managed to.

Ok but here's also some shit I remember about Yakuza 4 that absolutely tickles me

Akiyama is a stupid slut who thinks a single row of books is enough to hide his big money vault; that he has more chemistry with Arai and Tanimura than Yasuko (the girl he's pining over because he looks like his old crush that he somehow hasn't gotten over yet); and that Mack called him a "washed up p0rnstar". He is hilarious when he's not being creepy to Yasuko.

One of Akiyama's revelations involves a panty thief falling off a building in slow motion to overly dramatical classical music as underwear flies everywhere (or something like that)

Nair was the best character in the game and deserved her own spinoff

Some random, non-Majima related Saejima things: his mentor makes him punch rocks in some underground tunnels to get stronger; he pulls out a big chunk of wood and starts carving whenever he has a revelation; the developers thought Kido - a Wocky Kitoky ass looking kid - would make a good final boss for him; the scene where he finally reunites with his old oyabun is absolutely devastating

oh before i forget lemme just say that i love that rgg6 gave us silly little riddles and puzzles as part of the main plot like way to shake it up a little!! that's innovation baby

(actually this was gonna be shorter but I'm not done let's talk about onomichi. very minor spoilers for rgg6)

rgg as a series has always shown a lotta love and care for its settings that i really respect. i can't speak for accuracy but like. i could NEVER give as much of a shit about local food as these games do, for instance. but someone on staff thought it was important, and i think that ROCKS tbh. and onomichi, to me, really demonstrates that in a more open way, including mechanical/design choices that i think are pretty sick.

when kiryu first gets to onomichi we're shown/told a few times that the people there are slow to trust newcomers. at the same time, something i noticed immediately was that there was jack shit to do in this massive town. (honestly, i was a bit disappointed.) but, as you keep interacting with the town, you unlock minigames through helping and earning the trust of its citizens. you get more out of the town as people let you in, as you prove yourself to ono michi (almost like its shrine offerings, where you have to give first to receive). and, between new gaudi, the baseball team, and spearfishing, these activities tend to be group-based. contrast this with kamurocho, where everything's immediately available, but it's always stuff you can (and almost always) do on your own, reflecting the more solitary, flashy entertainment-centric energy of the place. the mechanics follow the character of the town, yeehaw.

the plot also hinges a lot on onomichi as a location, specifically "the secret of onomichi", as well as who is involved, namely a shipbuilding company, in a shipbuilding town. it makes sense that these big industrial powers would have sway over their lives (though, of course, bc it's an rgg game, iwami shipbuilding is more than that).

and then we have the poem stones. i just assumed that these were another inclusion for realism, like ono michio crying throwing up thinking about his cute fish pouch omg oh my FUCKIGN god and the oysters and the shrines, another little bit of fascination for and dedication to these places and what makes them unique. and then they got roped into the conspiracy too and frankly i love that because the only reason it was a surprise was that I'm so used to the series just including stuff like that because it wants to. like i would believe that rgg6 just wanted to give us some poetry to stir our and kiryu's thoughts and nothing else. it doesn't lose anything by being woven in like this and i think it's nice!!

basically i just think it's cool that they wove it more obviously/intensely in a story where the setting matters more and where it's more developed

tl;dr i love rgg's dedication to building its settings and i think they did a splendid job w onomichi, 10/10 I'm a big fan

All the main Daigo ships can comfortably fit simultaneously at the same timeline over the years and it’s beautiful (Yakuza Spoilers)

ShinaDai: high schooler realizes he’s gay (TM) and has a secret crush on the only classmate that treats him fairly and friendly, does a silly little academic sacrifice for him. Then never really forgets him and seeks him out years later (Limbo between Y0-Y1 and Y5)

MasaDai (yes its main, fight me): majorly pissed 20something year old emo punk old outta juvie meets another majorly pissed 20something year old emo goth and manages to rizz his insecure ass with natural charisma and being fair and nonjudgmental towards anyone, and they hate their dads (multiple) and listen to Pierce the Veil together or sth idk. Masato abruptly ends contact after the New Year Accident and resurfaces years later as a damn politician with a wrongly placed hate towards all yakuza (Kiryu-in-prison-limbo and Y7)

RyuDai: not really deep feelings but more like ‘oh god this fucking guy I hate him so much I can’t stop thinking about him and his huge tits’. Literally ‘I’m both intimidated and aroused’ when fighting the damn dragon. Big confused someone help his gay ass (Y2)

MineDai: quite frankly needs no explanation, but ye, undersocialized man with fucked up philosophy on life meets someone who’s… nice to him? doesn’t want anything from him? their interactions are not transactions?? GOD OF A MAN I’LL DEVOTE MY LIFE TO YOU. Meanwhile Daigo, being just over 30 years old and placed in a very stressful position almost all alone becomes smitten with this awkward dude that’s like the only person his age he can be close to in this hellhole. Textbook example of skinny love as Daigo probably kept overthinking what if he mistakes just platonic feels and loyalty for romantic affection and quite frankly wonders if a Chairman should date a subordinate. Mine probably didn’t even realize what he was feeling was love until near the end of the game or/and didn’t even attempt to make a move because he considered what he was already getting from Daigo to be more than he deserves anyway. Then cue the shooting and the rest is history yadda yadda (Y3)

REALLY funny that when it’s revealed that mayumi was a spy sent by daigo, madrame straight up says “it’s a shame she’s fallen for you even though her feelings will never be returned” or something along those lines but like. specifically the use of “never”. like okay. 300th person to clock kiryu. for understandable reasons.

I swear to god if they don't do anything with these two in 8, I'll be so pissed.

And I don't even mean it in a shippy way really. Sure, intense homoerotic subtext is prepackaged with these two no matter what, but I mean with their general relationship. Ever since 3 ended, it's like the team has taken careful measure to have them not interact with each other onscreen, face-to-face too much.

They share a single moment in 4 that leads to Kiryu being livid about Majima getting sold out by Daigo. Y5 has a whole plot about Kiryu threatening to kill over Majima being "dead," but they very strangely never reunite. Even when Majima declares no one would miss him when we saw Kiryu near to tears in his car and throwing himself back into the fray over getting answers on his "death." Y6? There's something crazy about how Majima- and Haruka- is the first person in his subconscious, how he says something really bizarre like them having shared fates for some reason, and the "love" and heart symbol on Majima's card- and Haruka's in the cabaret side stuff. What does all of that even mean?

Dead Souls even gives them a dramatic moment about how only Kiryu can kill him when Majima believes he's turning full zombie. Ishin gives them the MOST shared moments that they've seen in a while. What I'm trying to say is, I just want them to go back to their roots of longer onscreen interactions. I don't even know if Majima will be in 8, but if he is, I want this so badly. Just give me something solid between them instead of tearing them apart for the upteenth millionth time.

(Shes just coming into her powers so she cant hear him completely but gets the message very quickly) <- also in the same vein it would be super funny if kiryu had enough spiritual energy (if ghosts get their ‘strength’ from being remembered / thought about , im sure whatever mess/legacy kiryu left behind gives him a substantial reserve) to actually possess her and this like 10(?) year old girls suddenly doing elbow drops and uppercuts with this terrifying steely look in her eyes and then gies back to being a scared little girl only now instead of being in danger shes just confused
