After Noctis and Prompto are friends for some time, if anyone ever sees her using elemancy or armiger, well. The obvious conclusion is that Noctis shared his magic with her.
Oh absolutely.
Even better is if by that point, Noctis has shared his magic with Ignis and Gladio, because sure, Noctis is the one born with magic like Prompto but he's never had to try to teach anyone. So he enlists Ignis and Gladio's help in teaching Prompto because Ignis is a genius and Gladio has prior teaching experience (with weapons, sure, but he does know how to teach).
Ignis is of course, a natural with Elemancy. Gladio on the other hand, takes to magical shields as easily as physical ones. Both of them are capable of Warping, but neither of them enjoy it and rarely use it.
So Prompto's preference for stealth spells and passing skill with Elemancy doesn't raise an eyebrow. (Her night-light does, at least until certain members in the Kingsglaive figure out how to recreate it and promptly put it to use in the field.)
Noctis does share access to his Armiger with Prompto after that assumption gets made, to reinforce Prompto's cover.
Ironically, people assuming Noctis shared his magic with Prompto allows Prompto to use her magic more openly instead of having to hide it, which only further mitigates her health issues. It also makes it a hell of a lot easier for the group to train Prompto, now that they don't have to worry about sneaking it past everyone's noses. (They all feel a bit Dumb for not having thought of that earlier, it would have saved them so much trouble.)

Kurita recently published a birthday picture for Luna and... I just wanted to appreciate how in recent years he has already posted twice drawings of Luna, showing her as... a regular woman.
Tumblr media
Happy and smiling.
He presents her not as the Oracle we see in the game and movie, but as the young woman behind the role. The one Gentiana speaks about that warmed her heart. The one that wrote and shared a personal notebook with Noctis for 12 years. The little sister that Ravus tried to protect in his own way.
We are used to see only the Oracle that the story needs of her so desperately, and that she dutifully delivers, so it's nice and welcome to see her on her birthday as she actually needs to be celebrated: a kind and smiling young woman.
Happy Birthday Lunafreya ❤️🌙✨

Noctis & Luna: Two Halves of a Whole
Tumblr media
As the destined King of Light and Oracle form two halves of a whole divinely linked and fated to save the world, Noctis and Luna share a bond like none they've ever known. Though their individual callings are deeply intertwined regardless of their personal feelings, the genuine bond they cultivate transcends their pre-determined duties and encompasses a relationship that I believe to be a Yin and Yang dynamic - the definition of which can be described as two opposing, but complementary forces that are inextricably linked and balance each other to form a whole: Male and Female. Dark and Light. Sun and Moon. Night and Day. Black and White, etc. It's this element of their relationship that I'd like to explore here, as it seems clear to me that they were at least partially inspired by and designed to reflect this concept.
SYMBOLISM
Of course, the most obvious exemplification of this idea is found visually in their character's physical adherence to all black and all white clothing, a sartorial choice that is determined by their respective homelands of Tenebrae, which means "Darkness" in Latin, and Lucis which means "Light" - names clearly selected to further push this concept. Delving deeper into language, we know Noctis' name translates to "Light in the Night Sky" in Latin, but what is the singular Light in the night sky? The Moon, aka Luna. Similarly, Luna's middle name is Nox which, in Latin, also means "Night" - a direct reference back to Noctis. They literally share a piece of each other in the other's name, an exchange which is another notable aspect of the Yin and Yang dynamic that features the sharing of one within the other (the two dots in the larger circle).
Tumblr media
I believe this concept is also reflected in Umbra and Pryna, Luna's dogs. Pryna is a white female dog (with black markings) that is obviously meant to reflect Luna and dies with her and Umbra, a black male dog (with white markings), who survives to continue to help Noctis. These magical dogs serve to bridge the divide between them and act as their only means to facilitate communication through the passing of a notebook, which I believe is also meant to reflect this element of exchange. Though it may have been more convenient for them and the audience to try to find some way to speak directly to each other over some device, it wouldn't serve the same purpose, and it would lessen the impact of them meeting in person to a degree. Their inability to touch, see or hear from each other beyond the written word only increases the longing that beats at the heart of their star-crossed lover's dynamic.
Another exchange is featured in the transferring of the Ring of the Lucii - the embodiment of Noctis' duty - as well as the Trident of the Oracle, the symbol of Luna's own power and a piece of herself that literally becomes part of him to aid his mission even after she's gone. Beyond this, we also see Noctis hold onto one of Luna's glowing flower petals after her image vanishes as it's light and her essence seems to meld into him. As the Ring and Trident are tools to help him succeed in his calling, the petal is personal and both gifts represent her roles to him: mentor as well as lover and acts as another reference to the "light within the dark" element of Yin and Yang.
Tumblr media
Though Luna is obviously meant to represent the Moon (it's literally the meaning of her name), Noctis doesn't feel like an obvious reference to the Sun. Though his fate is linked to bringing back the Light, which is most notably displayed in the return of the Sun, I'd argue he and Luna are both the Moon - both the Light in the Night sky that combats the Darkness that must die to bring back the Sun. Saving the world can literally only be achieved through their union, just as Gentiana proposed:
"It is heartening to see the future King and the Oracle enjoy such familiarity. The fate of our world may depend on it." - Gentiana
The elements of Light and Darkness that permeate the story leads to some interesting symbolism. Light is a term used often and holds multiple meanings as, beyond physical Light, it also means Hope and, for Noctis and the world, Luna is the embodiment of that Hope. When she's gone, the world literally grows darker without such a beacon of Light to help keep it at bay. That task now belongs fully to Noctis and the passing of the torch is exemplified in her exchange with the Ring and the Trident.
"[...] For slowly but surely, the Light fades from our world. And as it does, the shadows loom ever longer until all succumbs to the Darkness. Darkness that evokes terror, hatred, and sorrow in the hearts of men. [...] Yet I beg you, do not surrender to Despair. Have faith, for our gods watch over us. By their blessings, by the Stars that light the heavens above, our world will be delivered from the perils of the Dark. [...] But first, I offer my solemn vow, on my honor as Oracle, I will not rest until the Darkness is banished from our world and the Light is restored." - Luna
And, just as Darkness is the opposite of Light, so Despair is the opposite of Hope and it's in this struggle that the story revolves and defines the crux of Noctis' internal conflict. Among other things, Noctis' journey is finding the ability to move on from the Despair of his losses and attaining and embodying Hope like Luna before him so he can be that for the world. It's Ardyn that tries to keep him trapped in Darkness and Despair by reminding him of his guilt and fears and Luna that tries to pull him into the Light by encouraging him and reminding him of his strength and capability. In the end, through the help of his loved ones, Noctis embraces Hope and becomes the true King of Light and saves the world by physically conquering Darkness and his own Despair. This growth is beautifully displayed in many moments, but notably in Noctis' final speech to the Glaives that mimics Luna's words:
"Even as the Darkness overcame our world, we kept the Light alive in our hearts. We've all lost friends and loved ones along the way, but the one thing we never lost was Hope. I ask you to stand by me and fight at my side for the Light and for the future of our world!" - Noctis
BALANCE
Tumblr media
"Noct and Luna are a great match for each other personality-wise. They are both patient, and earnest, and capable of dealing with great sorrow. They would be each other’s shield, and their love for each other would only grow with time." - Ray Chase (Voice of Noctis)
Noctis and Luna were clearly intended to reflect and contrast in interesting ways that enhance the story and add depth to their individual characters. Though I won't begin to pretend to know all the deeper meanings to be mined in the Omen trailer, I was struck by the way Noctis and Luna are literally reflected throughout most of it with them depicted as mimicking each other's movements or seeing each other's reflections as their own, almost as if they're one person. I think this speaks to the creator's desire to showcase them in this way and lends further credence to the Yin and Yang aspect of their dynamic, in my opinion.
Let's break it down: Luna was obviously designed to be a few years older than Noctis to enhance her larger narrative function as a mentor figure. Given the duties she had to embrace at a young age and the hardships she's suffered, she is more mature, refined and accepting of her calling. Noctis, by contrast, lacks in these areas at the beginning of the story - hence the journey he's on to follow in her footsteps both literally and figuratively and reach her at that level using her guidance, support and example to become the man and the King he's meant to be.
These disparities are intentional. A deliberate choice to enhance their Yin and Yang dynamic and encourage Noctis' much needed growth but, despite their surface level differences, they are and could clearly be very compatible. They have always gotten along very well, showcase a deep level of respect and affection for each other, have grown up together through their consistent communication and truly know and love each other despite said differences and not even seeing each other in person (you don't eagerly and consistently write to someone for 12 years and still not know anything about each other). Getting to interact in person would only further enhance an already strong foundation, not hinder it and their minimal differences would help balance and enhance each other. And yes, they'd have amazing chemistry, let's be real.
Tumblr media
For example, it's easy to determine that Luna would be a calm and encouraging presence that Noctis desperately needs - a literal beacon of Light in his life. He harbors a great deal of anxiety about his duties, calling and even his wedding with her and just being around her and assured by her warm smile and comforting words would have done wonders to relax and assuage his worries. Her presence would also help to bring out more maturity in Noctis and naturally coax the gentleman in him to the surface as he tries to be the man and husband she deserves. When Noctis speaks to or about Luna, he generally shows a softer, more caring side of himself that contrasts the 'rougher', more guarded quality he can display around others at times. He could finally drop the nonchalant façade he uses as a shield and just be himself as there is no reason to hide his true self around Luna, who already knows him so well and will not judge or mock him.
Unlike Noctis, Luna doesn't have the luxury of friends her age she can be herself with. Reuniting with him would no doubt encourage her to drop her guard as well and remind her of their time together when she was her younger, more carefree self and the person she wants to be: a normal woman who finally has someone by her side who sees the real her beyond being the Oracle. She's not just Lady Lunafreya, she's also Luna, a girl who wants a life outside of duty with the man she loves and he's the only person who sees her that way. Luna longs for her other half - an equal at her side rather than someone merely to lead.
"I have little to offer a King other than the voice afforded the Oracle. Nevertheless, and I'm afraid he might find this foolish, but to be together with Noctis again - even if only for a short while - it would mean the world to me. I do not seek to guide him, merely to stand beside him." - Luna
Like Yin and Yang, they complement and balance each other to grow and become the best and truest version of themselves. Luna encourages Noctis to mature and relax and Noctis would allow her to be less refined and remind her of the woman she is beneath the titles and duties that have dominated her life. They'd give each other exactly what the other needs and provide a special bond they can't find with anyone else. Though Noctis' friends help him along his journey, the burden of his fate is a weight only Luna understands. They are on this path together and no one else can truly know what that feels like save for the other.
This is another reason why their relationship is so important, as it allows us to flesh out their characters more and add depth by highlighting a facet of their personalities that we wouldn't otherwise see. Having romantic rather than platonic feelings for each other also heightens every aspect of the story: the tragedy of their circumstances, the longing to be together and the overall satisfaction at the end when they can finally be together again.
FOREVER BOUND
Tumblr media
Since the day they met, Noctis and Luna became a huge part of each other's lives and formed a bond both sought to hold onto. Felt a deep connection to their spiritual counterpart and amiss in each other's absence as if unconsciously seeking their other half. When Luna dies, Noctis loses a part of himself, and the blow is understandably devastating. They came so close to being together and were torn apart once again, their previous separation taking a new and even more tragic form. But though Luna is far, she is not gone as, according to Ravus, even in death her spirit remains tethered to the world, unable to truly pass on until Noctis' mission is complete - further proof as to how connected their fated roles are. However, it's their love for each other, not their callings that truly tether them and, just as before, they are determined to still be together someday no matter what.
Tumblr media
"Luna, you and I will be together again someday, I promise." - Noctis
The element of yearning that permeates their relationship is maintained now through the repeated motif of Noctis reaching for her, both still desperate for connection. Beyond heightening the inherent tragedy that lies at the heart of their star-crossed lovers dynamic, I believe these near misses are not meant to be cruel, but to further prove that, as much as Noctis wants to, he has not really "reached" Luna yet. He still has a lot of growth to achieve before he can truly become her equal and they can become one. If Luna represents essentially all that he needs to become, then reuniting and becoming one with her translates to him finally achieving that as well, which is why it's withheld until he's completed his arc. It also, obviously, makes them finally being able to touch in the end even more satisfying.
Tumblr media
MARRIAGE
As a huge element of this story is about Noctis and Luna uniting in more ways than one, what better way to show that than through marriage? As marriage can be defined as two individuals joining in a permanent covenant that unites them into one flesh, so the marriage between Noctis and Luna was not only an effective catalyst to the story, but also a brilliant way to continue to reflect the idea of them becoming whole again through each other which serves a huge narrative, thematic and symbolic function. This story is not only about Noctis literally following in Luna's footsteps, seeking her to not only be reunited with her, but also united in marriage - the blending of Yin and Yang. Two halves of a whole seeking and yearning for each other finally becoming one which is only achieved in the end after Noctis has completed his arc and truly becomes her equal.
Though they may not have physically married in life, their spiritual marriage in the afterlife further proves not only how much they love and want to be together, but also symbolizes that they are truly and fully bonded now. Even the transformed logo at the end of the game serves to show this. Where once Luna was alone, now Noctis finally joins her at last. Finally equal. Finally whole. Finally one.

Extremely self-indulgent Lunoct arranged marriage AU:
Where instead of Ardyn's schemes, it's Noctis who proposes a contract marriage as a means of extracting Luna from imperial clutches with the condition they'll definitely divorce after she's free and no longer in danger. (Or until a certain fixed period has passed.)
Luna agrees to the terms (despite being OK with the arrangement) because she doesn't want to keep Noctis trapped in a marriage to someone he doesn't love romantically.
Cue lots of denial, repressed feelings and pining as they spend time together in the lead up to their wedding (and after it), until one of them snaps and apologises for not wanting a divorce because they've fallen for the other.
Some possible titles:
A Fake Marriage with the Beloved Oracle I Proposed a Contract Marriage to Save My Childhood Friend from Captivity, Except I Don't Really Want to Get Divorced I Became Engaged to the Oracle ~But Now I Want to Marry Her For Real~ Temporarily Marrying the Prince of Lucis for My Protection The Wayward Prince's Bride (and Future Ex-Wife)
There'd be a lot of:
"Noctis/Luna deserves to be with someone they love. I can't stand in the way of their future happiness. This marriage is only temporary blah blah blah"
head shaking, eye rolling and "Can you believe these two fools??" from the bros, Regis, other retainers/staff, Carbuncle, all of Lucis
Ravus greatly disapproves

📚 final fantasy, your choice of numerical!
cracks knuckles
Okay let's imagine, for a minute, about Noctis who didn't manage to escape the fire in Tenebrae. Regis lost his grip, Noctis tried to squirm out of his hold to get to Luna, something. And for the next eight years, Noctis is raised as a ward of the Empire alongside Luna and Ravus, with all the gristly details that implies because Niflheim finally has their hands on the crown prince of their hated enemy.
The story starts with Noctis' long awaited return to Insomnia at the hands of Lieutenant Drautos when he's sixteen, eight long, long years after the tragic fire that took Queen Sylvia's life. There's been some paper thin excuse about Noctis staying in the Empire for "goodwill" but everyone knows that he's been a hostage, and the kingdom is ecstatic to have their prince back.
The big reunion between beloved father and son, and it's shattered when Noctis, in a polite, quiet Tenebrae accent, asks, "Do I know you, sir?" (Because that's not what his father looked like. That's not the dad who abandoned him, is it? He's too old, surely--)
The prince that's returned to them is a stranger. Neatly combed back hair, a fondness for Tenebrae white colors, soft spoken lilting accent and impeccable manners that betray nothing of what he thinks. It's only in private, when Ignis and Gladio desperately try to get him to open up and maybe talk to them that Noctis admits that he wants to go home, to his brother and sister. The best he can do is send letters with the Messengers, a small, fluffy black dog that Ignis swears wasn't there yesterday.
We cut between Ravus, Luna, and Noctis as the letters pass hands. Ravus, having been pressured into being in the military at eighteen so he could no longer protect his little siblings, traces over the harsh stroke of the pen in Noct's letters in the privacy of his tiny cabin. Luna scribbling out her loneliness and exhaustion over being the world's youngest Oracle for four years now, saying how much she misses the comforting weight of her little brother following her around during her duties.
The Ravus we find here is harder on the outside, but fiercely protective of Luna and Noctis. His hatred for Regis is even more intense, because how dare that man abandon his own son, yet banked even further down because he cannot afford to let these emotions show when he needs to protect them. It's not just that Luna is his precious little sister -- their mother wasn't done healing Noctis before she perished, and Noctis could only rely on them. Ravus is the only one who knows that the Empire was going to kill the boy, and it was only his quick thinking that convinced General Glauca to spare Noctis as a hostage.
Luna is more tired, more worn down. Not only is she the youngest Oracle with an impossible task, she did everything she possibly could to make sure Noctis traveled with her retinue so she could keep an eye on him and make sure the Empire didn't touch him. And now that he's gone, whisked away back to his "home", she finds herself working even harder just to cope with the loneliness.
Noctis is... well. He copes, as best he can, being a stranger in his own 'home' with chronic pain and no one knowing what really happened. Even his magic is different, leans more towards healing and the like rather than traditional Lucian faire, uses a rapier like his older brother when he goes to spar. Spends time with his dog, with Ignis trying to get him to want to meet with his father, training with Gladio in the ring and trying not to flinch at how big he is (not his fault, he's just. Big like Glauca.), tentatively making friends with Cor's hyperactive blonde kid named Prompto...
It isn't until Gladio sees Captain Drautos 'checking in' on the Prince that things start to change. Drautos now has sway over the Glaives and the Crownsguard, the gratitude of the King Himself, so long as Prince Noctis keeps his mouth shut about what happened while he was being "rescued" from General Glauca. Except Noctis talks back to the Captain now that it's just him, he doesn't have to worry about his siblings getting hurt, just himself really.
Gladio charges, because even if that's a little shit of a guy that's his Prince who's being slapped around. He doesn't have a hope in hell against someone like Titus Drautos, let alone General Glauca, being only eighteen and new to the whole 'shield' thing. Gets his shit wrecked, his eye nearly cut open, and his life held against Noctis to scare them both into keeping Drautos' secret.
Gladio, while he's being patched up on Ignis' bathtub, is adamant that they tell the king and the council, while Noctis pleads that they can't or Glauca will find a way to punish Luna and Ravus. Ignis informs him that it will be happening, because this is no longer just a threat to them but a threat to the whole kingdom.
We cut to the chocobros watching as Prince Ravus and Princess Lunafreya are welcomed into Insomnia, only to have their introductions interrupted by Noctis' excited shout of their names and practically warping over to them to hug them stupid. Drautos is imprisoned now, things are starting to look up for the first time for the Fleuret siblings in ... so, so long.
I think the primary fic would end there, but I'd probably want to have oneshots set after, about the adjusting period, and how things wrap up. Something something the abuse that the kids were subjected to gets to light and has the Empire's citizens up in arms over the treatment of the beloved Oracle, Lucis uses it as a way to force Niflheim into a peace treaty. Another oneshot from the pov of someone who only knows Ravus as a battlefield commander, seeing him turn all soft and doting on Luna and Noctis. Maybe dig into how Noctis and Luna traveled around under the guard of Glauca, how it's just as much threatening as it is teasing the Lucis spies who can't get close enough to set Noctis free...
I think about this au often, if you can't tell,
[Put "📓" or some other version of a book emoji into my inbox and I'll explain the plot of a fanfiction that I haven't written but daydream about.]

ok so here’s the thing. Luna’s ‘I do not seek to guide him, merely to stand beside him’ thing obviously exists in the context of misogynistic writing that needed to make sure that Luna didn’t come across as being more competent than Noctis or whatever the hell. but in the absolute dearth of actual scenes with her, I think it is actually a valuable insight into her desires - her compassion and her backbone of steel are a key part of why she’s a good oracle, why she can take on that kind of responsibility and live up to it, but they do take a toll on her. she wanted a relationship where she wouldn’t have to be the one who always knew what was right, who was always the voice of wisdom; she wanted a partner. she wanted freedom. she wanted what Noctis has spent a lot of the game up to this point getting - a chance to grow into herself and have fun in the process. which makes her death just, SO much more tragic, bc she never gets that!! she dies the way she lived, a martyr for the greater good!!!! absolutely fucking evil I hope she’s doing just whatever the fuck she wants forever in the afterlife.

Your Lunafreya fan fic "Dear Beloved Stranger" was incredibly well written! You gave Luna such an amazing voice! You capture the frustration and confusion she feels about her circumstances, but also her determination, kindness, and a little bit of silliness too.
Luna's final scene of her laughing among the syllablossoms as she comes to understand her feelings was very heartwarming to read. After spending all this time keeping her true emotions close to her chest, Luna allows herself to let out everything she's been holding inside. She accepts that Noct won't ever her, and neither will she love him, and instead of being disappointed, it's liberating to her. You've written her with much more dimension than what we were originally given, but you still kept the core aspects that make Luna, well, Luna!
Long story short, I really enjoyed this, and I look forward to your future writings!
Hey, thank for the kind words! I'm so glad you enjoyed it!
Yeah, I started getting Luna Feelings when I was playing through the chapter in Altissia and you go and see her wedding dress. Like! Up until that point Noctis seems kinda uncaring about the wedding (though he obviously cares about Luna) but it's the first time we actually see him mourn what could have been. And it just hit me like 'Oh! This was their safety net. They both thought of this as their chance at stability.'
And then after that she dies and in that cutscene they both are children, because despite seeing her in-person mere moments ago, he can't conceive of the two of them talking as adults. The juxtaposition of pinning their futures on each other while also being almost complete strangers. And then I started pacing around and the more I thought about their dynamic the more I wanted to chew on concrete.
The amount that themes of rest permeate both their stories. She's the constantly working Oracle and he's the prince of Insomnia. They both die during the main story and get pulled right back to work minutes later. The fact that the ending of the game is them leaning against each other and closing their eyes. I just wanted to keep pulling at and exploring that thread and then I blinked and I had a whole fic in front of me.
Made me more insane about them, honestly. 10/10 platonic soulmates of all time.

WIP Wednesday
I was tagged by both @holdingontojupiter and @thequeenofthewinter
Since I finished drafting The Oracle I've got to finish the project I started way back in the mists of time (December), which is my gender-swapped The Mummy AU starring Evie "Rook" Aldwir and Emmrich "Rick" Volkarin. I love it so much, gang. I'm foaming at the mouth. Can we say that about our own stuff? Anyway, here's the post-river scene:
“We should go back to Nevarra,” she said to Varric as they finished loading the mounts at the edge of the town square. “This isn’t a good way to start a mission.” “Then we’d lose the bet,” he protested. “And the treasure. And Emmrich would never agree, you know.” “No, he wouldn’t.” She looked toward the docks again. Here he came. She’d expected him to find whatever secondhand clothing was available, mismatched and overused and much too short for his arms and legs. Instead he looked like he belonged here, and not to man a fishing boat. A long white chiton with flowing sleeves draped inches above the ground, tied at the waist with an ornate green sash that accentuated his height and matched the eerie glow that came from the iron skull at the top of his staff. More white cloth fluttered down from his head, held in place by a braided leather band. Where before there had been a collar reaching halfway up his slender throat, now the wraps of the garment exposed his collarbone and the top inch or so of his chest. It was not in the least bit immodest or even all that flashy, and Evie felt her mouth go dry.
Bullying @heylittleriotact and @rooks-leather-jumpsuit and @draco-illius-noctis into showing us the goods.

@raven-6-10
Lol, Regis absolutely needs to sit down. Of all the things Noctis could have said, his newest friend and Heart having magic of her own and being his daughter is honestly the last thing he expected.
(Unfortunately for the Nifs, no one mentions that Prompto's magic is just so slightly different to traditional Lucis Caelum magic. Regis therefore makes the same mistake as Prompto and Noctis and assumes that Prompto is therefore his daughter. Which means the Father King is now on a warpath to rescue said newfound daughter from Niff custody, and rest in pieces to anybody who gets in his way.)
Cor wishes he could go back in time and smack some sense into his younger self. That's his friend/brother/King's daughter, his niece in all but blood. He isn't going to just mobilize more people, he is going to be leading missions himself regardless of what Regis or Clarus has to say about it.
Yeah, at this point Regis and Cor probably tell Noctis and co. that no, Regis did not cheat on Aulea while his wife was on her death bed (after a very scathing tirade from Noctis about what he thinks of Regis doing said cheating on his mom and then not even having the decency to raise Prompto as she should have been). But Prompto is no less wanted for her being a product of science and stolen DNA.
You know, I always headcanoned that once Niflheim got their hands on some photos of the prince and his civilian friend, they absolutely knew that Prompto was an escaped clone. The resemblance to Besithia was obvious, after all. They just didn't bother to do anything with it, since it's not like they need that particular clone and it's not even like Prompto has a sleeper programming.
But in the Spark verse, well. Prompto is a child of an Oracle. And if Glauca is a thing, they might even know about her magic.
Either way, they really want to have her back.
I have been sitting on this ask for awhile, because I love it, but unfortunately the muses are not cooperating with me on it.
In most of my fics, Niflheim doesn’t really bother paying too much attention to Prompto - yeah, he’s the prince’s friend, but he’s civilian, and furthermore, not a member of his Retinue, so ergo, he can’t be that important to the prince. Not enough to be worth investing any resources into whatever aim they might want with Prompto anyway.
But in Spark au, Prompto is claimed as Noctis’ Heart far earlier than normal in an effort to protect her secret, and that makes Niflheim take a closer look at this civilian girl who’s gotten so close to the prince. And you’re right, the resemblance is uncanny if you know what to look for.
I feel like Titus wouldn’t know about Prompto’s magic. Noctis and the others are so very careful to keep her magic under wraps, and the cover of Prompto having Noctis’ magic so compelling, that Titus never realizes the truth.
Now, if they ever managed to get their hands on the Prince’s Heart long enough to somehow learn that carefully hidden truth… well.
That would change things, wouldn’t it?

if the Kings are self-aware inside the Ring then why would they punish Ignis. especially because Regis was in there.
the Ring itself is not sentient, but the spirits within it are. we see this in Kingsglaive, and it makes sense because of who they burn and how.
Ravus got punished immediately, even as the brother of the Oracle, but they only took his arm. a limb. replaceable. and Ravus was motivated by revenge, so his intentions weren't exactly good, regardless of the reasoning behind them.
Luche didn't have a chance. incinerated on the spot, for obvious reasons.
and Nyx actually did have a chance to bargain with them. they still took his life, but only after following through on the deal by granting him temporary access to their power.
so at first it seems like Ignis was spared, right? compared to Nyx, another good-hearted person who needed the power of the Ring in a crisis.
but here's the difference:
what Nyx did was beneficial to the Kings, and to the Prophecy. by allowing him access to the Ring, he was able to defend the city so Lunafreya could escape before everything fell. had Lunafreya died there, or had the Ring fallen into the wrong hands, everything would have been ruined. therefore, it made sense to grant Nyx, a common man, that power for a short amount of time.
but Ignis didn't need to use the Ring. because Noctis wasn't in danger. Ardyn was faking. he couldn't kill Noctis in Altissia; he needed to lure him to the Crystal first. Ardyn preyed on Ignis' emotions in attempt to get Ignis to follow him to Zegnautus. he didn't expect Ignis to fight back, and certainly not like that.
Ignis could never have known this, and so he reacted accordingly to the perceived threat. but do you know who did know? the Kings in the Ring. and especially Regis, who knew Noct's fate since Ignis was seven years old.
out of nothing but loyalty and devotion to his role to the King, and to the promise he made to Regis, Ignis used the Ring. completely devoid of selfishness, and with full awareness that he wasn't 'worthy' of its power. expecting to die, even. sacrificing himself for the Chosen King, the very key to the Prophecy.
and they blinded him. for that. for that earnest display of loyalty, they took not a limb, but his eyes. something that can never be replaced no matter what. a punishment for doing exactly what he was told, exactly what he'd been trained to do since childhood, under Regis' care, while Regis' spirit was already in the Ring. and while Ardyn, despised by the Kings, was manipulating him to react right in front of them.
they couldn't have spared Ignis? Ignis, of all people? a kind and gentle person who gives everything for others and stays humble despite his skills. someone with a deeply pure heart whose only goal was to protect Noctis. and they decided an arm just wasn't going to cut it.
i fucking hate the Kings, actually.

Final fantasy 15 is a game about devotion.
No wonder Gladio fails to resonate.
Ardyn is explicitly framed as having devotion to Aera and Somnus and the people of Lucis and the gods, only for it all to be leveraged against him and for him to turn against it all in kind.
Luna, beyond her dying breath, is devoted to her role as oracle, to her role as healer and eventually by extension to helping Noctis in saving the people she can no longer reach.
Ravus in turn was devoted to Luna, despite the dark path it led him down, he was ultimately sympathetic to the chocobros. Even if it was too little, too late.
Ignis and Prompto both are defined and altered by their devotion to Noctis, with Iggy’s knowing choice to wear the ring and Prompto using his devotion to Noctis to survive Nifilheim’s tundra and his time damseled in Gralea.
The Crownsguard are of course bound by devotion and though I haven’t seen Kingsglaive, I know Nyx pays for his devotion with his life.
Regis, even, puts his devotion to Lucis and Noctis over his own life.
But Gladio has never quite been devoted to Noctis. They’ve always butted heads, an issue that Gladio’s lack of understanding for Noctis on the train coupled with the backstory provided by Brotherhood exacerbates. He also never seems to significantly change over the story to go from almost antagonistic at times towards Noct to being able to genuinely see and respect him as a leader and a king (*looks pointedly at their fight on the train and the lack of any Gladio specific moments that really compare to Ignis or Prompto*). None of this is helped by the fact that in a vacuum, sure, Gladio is devoted to his role as shield, and to some degree Noctis, but at the same time he is not in a vacuum. Instead, he’s placed side by side with Prompto- and worse, Ignis, who outright knowingly put his life on the line to pick a fight with Ardyn just to keep Noctis safe. You know. GLADIO’S WHOLE FUCKING JOB THAT HES NEVER, NOT ONCE, ALLOWED TO DO AND NO IM NOT COUNTING THE BLOODHORN FIGHT WHEN THE PARTY IS LEVEL TWO
Ahem. Where were we?
Right. TLDR, reason number (what are we at?) five? Six? That Gladio got screwed over: he isn’t allowed devotion or allowed to develop devotion in a narrative where devotion where it is a load bearing component.

𝓛𝓪𝓭𝔂 𝓕𝓵𝓸𝓻𝓲𝓪𝓷 𝓕𝓸𝔁
Part of Noctis’s royal retinue and a member of the crownsguard, labelled the King’s Spear as Noctis’s polearm weapons teacher and companion.
Born June 23, M.E. 734 in the royal capital of Insomnia to the noble family of house Fox, a few months after Ignis Scientia. Florian is second cousin to Prince Noctis with his grandfather, King Mors, being the brother of her grandmother, Princess Vera.
[Florian is not in line for the throne but is titled Lady due to her noble status - she is able to summon weapons and dismiss them but not warp like the Kingsglaive of those in the direct line]
An idea proposed by King Regis along with a letter of permission from Lord Leon Fox, Florian’s father, suggested an engagement between the Prince of Tenebrae and the Lady Florian to strengthen bonds further between Lucis and the line of the Oracle.
[This decision was made with the knowledge that Florian has Lucian blood in mind]
The engagement is accepted by the Oracle and reigning Queen Sylva Via Fleuret and a Royal engagement is set until the two are older.
The two are separated when Tenebrae is annexed with Florian escaping to Lucis regretably.
Florian keeps correspondence with Ravus through letters, hoping to make a state visit so that the two may meet again as they are separated by the war between Lucis and the Empire.
The star-crossed pair finally reunite after the attack on Insomnia and Florian is conflicted between her allegiance to Noctis and her love for Ravus.

FFXV: Fate, Hope & Sacrifice
Tumblr media
After reading this post by @queenoffishingandcookies, I was inspired to write this impromptu meta to examine Regis' perspective on Noctis' fate more deeply which resulted in considering others as well, leading me to realize that, in a story defined by sacrifice, all the most notable deaths: Regis, Nyx, Luna and Noctis, operate without knowing all the details of the other's fates or what would ultimately happen to each other - which only adds to the inherent tragedy as they all possess hope for outcomes that cannot be.
Early on, Final Fantasy XV becomes a story punctuated by a series of sacrifices building off each other and being passed down like a baton in a relay race in an effort to aid Noctis and ultimately give the world a future, with every death before the young king paving the way to his own. It's not a coincidence, for example, that the illusions of Regis, Luna and Nyx's bodies are the main ones displayed by Ardyn in the throne room at the end to try and emotionally assault Noctis (and the audience) with the painful reminder of the lives who were sacrificed for him to reach that pivotal moment.
NYX
Tumblr media
Nyx is a loyal man dedicated to serve his king and doesn't hesitate to sacrifice his life in service of a greater good. Put in a difficult situation, he puts on the Ring of the Lucii and agrees to his own demise for the chance to help safeguard the future by giving Luna the opportunity to help Noctis, who he was initially angered to learn Regis was protecting above all else. As he dies, he voices his desire for Noctis to rule well, assuming that he will eventually become king and Luna would naturally become his queen and rule by his side - a pretty nice future and one that Libertus confirms he's rooting for as well. Though his sacrifice wasn't in vain, Nyx had no idea that that wouldn't actually happen and that both would one day perish instead.
Sharing the same desire to secure a future for the world (and a name meaning as well), Nyx feels like a predecessor of sorts whose own death serves to parallel Noctis' eventual demise as they both must wield the Ring to succeed, which mars their flesh and leaves their bodies to disintegrate into nothing as/before dawn breaks.
LUNA
Tumblr media
Luna is knowledgeable of and dedicated to her role as the Oracle and her fated task to help Noctis become the King of Light for most of her life, providing him more help and wisdom than any. Unfortunately, she secretly knew she was going to die as a result of the covenants she had to forge for him and had to accept the sad reality that she would never get to marry and live her life with him like she so desperately wanted, though she probably comforted herself with the hope that, at least, he would get to live a long life and help restore the world.
As further confirmed in the novel, Dawn of the Future, Luna had no idea that Noctis would have to die to complete his calling and was devastated upon seeing a vision of Noctis' impending sacrifice and that her actions in giving him the Ring would ultimately result in the death of the man she loves. Though she seeks to stop it from happening in that reality, in the canon story she'd be forced to watch helplessly as it all unfolds and continue to help him reach that tragic conclusion no matter how much it breaks her heart.
REGIS
Tumblr media
Though a great king to his people, Regis is driven above all else to protect Noctis and grant him as much opportunity for happiness as possible before his unjust demise. Like Luna knew of her impending death, Regis seems to suspect that he's going to die in the attack and lets it happen without much of a fight, putting his final hope in Nyx to protect Luna and, in turn, aid his son. Right before his death, when Regis states that he wishes Noctis and Luna a happy life together, I always wondered if he knew it wasn't actually going to happen but, as a loving father would, still dreamed for it anyway and wanted to voice his heart's desire to Luna as his parting words to her or if he genuinely believed it was possible.
We know that Regis learned that Noctis would eventually have to be sacrificed when he's five years old, but I was unsure if he was simply told it would happen sometime in the future and therefore had no idea when or shown through a vision and could therefore estimate based on seeing Noctis' aged appearance as suggested by the OP. I don't know if that's confirmed but, even if not, I think it's likely that he could have seen it given the fact that - in the DLC/Dawn of the Future anyway - Ignis, Ardyn, Luna and Noctis himself all see a vision of his death on the throne, so if they got a chance to witness it beforehand, I imagine Regis probably could have as well as someone with direct access to the Crystal. Also, if the Omen trailer is meant to act as a depiction of a potential future Regis sees and seeks to avoid, then it seems like confirmation that he received other visions as well.
As I wrote in my meta breaking down Noctis' appearance, he looks arguably a bit older than a 30-year-old after the time skip given the immense power he's been granted so, if Regis did see him in a vision, he may even assume he could be mid 30s or older and would get the chance to live all those years. With this hope in mind, Regis may believe that his son would at least get to enjoy some period of relative happiness with Luna (as he doesn't know she's actually going to die soon) and hoped they'd marry and even potentially have a child and continue the Lucis line (Regis had Noctis when he was 30 after all). He had no way of knowing that none of those things would happen and that Noctis would have to enter the Crystal, lose ten years of his life and die without experiencing the joy of marriage or children like he was able to.
NOCTIS
Tumblr media
Noctis, of course, was largely left in the dark for most of his life and never could have imagined the tragic events that would unfold after leaving home to get married. He had no idea Insomnia would be attacked and his father would die. He had no idea that Luna would perish as a result of her duty to him. He had no idea of Ardyn's true identity or intentions. He had no idea that saving the world would require him to sacrifice his own life until entering the Crystal and having a decade stripped from him - an event that recontextualized his dubious regard of his father's previous choices and his feelings about his own demise in relation to other sacrifices, most notably Luna's, which gives him the determination to go through with it as well and ensure no one who died for him did so in vain. His experience wrestling with the reality of his fate and an untimely demise is one shared by those before him to some degree and one he must accept wholeheartedly as well. You can read this meta for more of my in-depth thoughts on Noctis' mentality toward his fate.
I think it's harder to know what Noctis originally expected to happen before learning what was meant to. Even if he succeeded in defeating Ardyn, he'd have to face a future without his father or Luna, whom he genuinely hoped to be with, though his friends would certainly continue to be great support and comfort, and we do get a taste of this potential reality at the end of Episode Ignis. Naturally, Noctis probably considered the potential repercussions should he fail, which would have left the entire world in perpetual darkness and despair ruled by Ardyn with no hope of change - a prospect that would no doubt further fuel his resolve to succeed no matter what. It all comes down to him now and he can't fail.
IGNIS
Though it doesn't cost him his life, I want to quickly touch on Ignis who sacrifices his eyesight upon using the Ring (and idea borne in remembrance of Nyx's actions) in an attempt to protect Noctis and even seeks to save him from his fate after seeing a vision of him on the throne in Episode Ignis. To try and keep him safe, Ignis suggests they end their journey, but Noctis refutes that he can't let any sacrifice at his expense be made in vain and Ignis has no choice but to accept Noctis' decision, knowing more than he does where this path truly leads - similar to Regis before he died.
CONCLUSION
Tumblr media
Though the path of their lives was skewed by fates they could not control, all remained driven by their love for each other and others and ultimately succeeded in what they set out to do and achieved a semblance of what they had hoped for: Nyx succeeded in helping Luna and therefore Noctis, who was able to provide a future for the world even if he didn't get to rule it. Regis didn't get to see Noctis and Luna wed in life like he desperately hoped for, but he's comforted by their matrimonial union in death and that his son was able to experience some happiness in life - his success filling him with pride. Luna succeeded in aiding Noctis and, though she didn't get to spend her life with him like she dreamed, they're able to be together forever in the afterlife. Noctis didn't get to live the life he expected but succeeded in saving the world like everyone before him hoped and sacrificed for and gets to rest by his beloved's side forevermore. Even Ardyn himself is able to find peace after centuries of suffering - all fates resulting in a bittersweet conclusion to an inherently tragic tale.

I've got a cold, so here are some headcanons about the FFXV characters being sick:
Noctis - Big fan of bed rest. And sick days. And telehealth. Not having to see his personal doctor in person? Good, great even. Give him some blankets (+his phone) and set aside some food, water and meds, and Noct'll bounce back from most non-magical maladies in no time. Would grumble about being sick except he doesn't want to hear Iggy's or worse, Gladio's lectures.
As a child, he was less upset about being ill because it usually meant his father would stop by and spend time with him.
Prompto - Had to grow up taking care of himself since he was young, so he's got it covered. Prompto might not know the most effective treatment, but he sure knows what'll work on a budget. Didn't start (regularly) going to the GP or other health professionals until he was old enough to not require his parents' presence - i.e. around 15 years old, when he could get his own healthcare card.
Most likely to whine about minor symptoms but keeps quiet about major afflictions. Has a special chocobo hoodie that he only wears when he's not feeling great.
Ignis - Irritated that he got sick in the first place, but refuses to take sick leave unless he's incapacitated (or contagious). A prudent wearer of masks. Fortunately, he's the type to occasionally catch minor colds but rarely anything serious. Great at taking care of others when they're under the weather, except it usually comes with a lecture on how to avoid the ailment. Ignis gives himself the same lecture when he's ill because he's, y'know, not a hypocrite.
Has to remind the others, especially Noctis, that clean surroundings do in fact facilitate one's recovery. Prefers lemon scented air freshener over pine.
Gladio - The most health conscious of the lot. He's on top of all his check ups, vaccinations and news of outbreaks, etc. After all, the best way to not be sick is to not get sick in the first place, duh. Despite this, he still swears by his family's traditional remedies. If it works, it works. Has more experience with taking care of Iris than actually being sick. An unfortunate victim of seasonal allergies, however.
Most likely to order takeaway when he's not feeling well despite knowing better, to Ignis' chagrin.
Luna - Sick? Who's sick? Definitely not Luna. Not only does she have her public image to keep in mind, but she doesn't want to worry others or show signs of weakness. (Not that Luna would equate illness with weakness, but there are those who'd happily tear her down.) Her Oracle lineage and powers probably give her a stronger immunity than most. Pryna and Umbra are the first to notice when Luna's sick and give her nice, comforting cuddles. Gentiana will fetch whatever Luna needs to get better, but it's best not to ask how she procures things.
Prefers to keep her mind or hands busy rather than succumb to bed rest.
Ravus - Everyone better steer clear. More sour and much grouchier than usual when he's unwell. Woe betide whoever dares to pass a cold onto him, unless thy name be Lunafreya. Also has a stronger immune system thanks to his Oracle descent, despite lacking the healing powers.
Umbra or Pryna will usually alert Luna when he's especially unwell, so sometimes Ravus finds medicine and a healthy meal in his chambers at Fenestala Manor or a little care package in his quarters at the imperial barracks. Ravus would reciprocate, but Umbra and Pryna never tell him about Luna's well-being.
Aranea - Her motto is "if you can't grin and bear it, quit complainin' and focus on getting better". Any sick person in her squad had best stay home lest they make the whole unit ill. Big believer in a good bowl of chicken soup. Or chocobo? (Well, they do have daggerquills and basilisk birds in FFXV...) Keeps a stash of various lollies that she only gives out when Solara's sick. Honey or lemon lollies for sore throats and ginger lollies for gastro troubles.
In her opinion, the worst part of being ill is being grounded and unable to take to the skies. Luckily for her, Biggs and Wedge both know how to make some great congee when that happens - it becomes something of a squad tradition.
