Over the Garden Wall, or as most fans call it OTGW, was a short series (1 season) released to Cartoon Network back in 2013 but ever since then has just embodied fall. Based on an animated short film Tome of the Unknown by Patrick McHale, the film "serves as the inspiration and pilot for the mini-series Over the Garden Wall '.
If you want to read more about Tome of the Unknown I would suggest that you go take a look at the Wikipedia article on it:
Over the Garden Wall is just such a good work of art, music, character, world, and story development all wrapped up into one really good pumpkin pie. I was introduced to the story by a friend and have rewatched it multiple times. It's such a nice comfort show~ It has so many different layers to it and the animation style is just comforting to me for some reason. The characters are funny and most of the story is lighthearted enough that it cheers me up no matter what kind of mood I'm in.
If you haven't gone and watched the show yet: I would stop reading this and go, take an hour of your time to watch the show, and then come back if you like it and want to hear my takes on it. (Also because there will be spoilers in the further publishings of this 11-chapter installment...)
The next 10 posts are going to be going chapter by chapter ( 1 - 10 ), each addressing their own episode of the show. They're gonna be mostly about the things I find interesting and actually took time to look into them because I found them interesting. Maybe some lore I thought was important, or something I saw that I haven't in the past 5 times I've watched this series...
There will obviously be personal opinions thrown in a lot, and comments + criticism are definitely allowed in the comment section (just please remember to be nice). I might also throw in some really cool fan art that I find around Tumblr just because I follow the OTGW tags and appreciate all the amazing work a lot of people on this app do.
If you ever want me to talk about something specific in the next installment because I will be uploading these periodically (because sadly I do have other things to do in my life other than write fan reviews of my favorite shows...), just leave a comment and I will try to read them and include it. I'm also open to discussion! If you've read this far we all know you're a die-hard fan just like I am.
I am THIS close to going full conspiracy board trying to piece together the components of my favourite genre "spooky, mystery solving, coming of age adventures that involve a clash of the mundane and the supernatural"
