#other bands to listen to

From all the posts going around of what other bands to listen to rather than Wilbur and Lovejoy, there's a few that I'm surprised I haven't seen:
Pat the Bunny and his other projects Wingnut Dishwashers Union, Ramshackle Glory, and Johnny Hobo and the Freight Trains - the epitome of folk punk, a genre that Will was obviously into and inspired by considering he covered a few songs from Pat
I'm not a good person
I'm going home
Whiskey is my kind of lullaby
Your heart is a muscle -> the first song I typically recommend
More about alcoholism
Urine speaks louder than words -> the cover wil did of this is how i found him
Never trust a man who (who plays guitar)
Crywank - another band that was inspo for both the solo albums and Lovejoy, AND another folk punk staple, one of the few I can think of off the top of my head that's british
Welcome to castle irwell
Its ok i wouldn't remember me either
Song for a guilty sadist
Memento Mori
AJJ - especially People Who Can People album
Back Pack
People ii 2: Still Peoplin'
Brave as a noun
Bad bad things
Days N' Daze, Mischief Brew, and Defiance, Ohio are also great folk punk bands that are in the same vein as the ones mentioned above.
misanthropic drunken loner
little blue pills
oh, susquehanna!
roll me through the gates of hell
coffee, god, and cigarettes,
olde tyme mem'ry
I will say, while I could hear the definite influences these bands and genre had on his solo stuff, YCGMA and MSR always struck me as a more tamed version made more palatable for the masses, so while the themes, overall sound, and inspo is all there, I can't guarantee that it's a vibe for everyone
Ren - while not the same genre by any means, I think the vibe could def be appreciated, and if you like up-and-coming artists who've originated on youtube, check him out
Frank Turner - british artist who also makes music that I would considered the marketable version of folk-punk. more positive vibes than others in the scene
Get better
I still believe
I knew prufrock before he got famous
The Libertines - more for those who like Lovejoy. this band has been around for a while, and they've never stopped being insane about eachother. GREAT music, one of my favs tbh, and classic brit-indie 2000s which is what Lovejoy reminded me of.
Can't stand me now -> prob their most known song
The good old days
What a waster
What became of the likely lads
Gunga Din
Sorority Noise
Blonde hair, black lungs
Using
Art school wannabe
Kimya Dawson - if you're looking for something woman-based, she's for you. In the vein of the folk-punk scene (she's actually anti-folk), her and her band Moldy Peaches have been in soundtracks like Juno
So nice, so smart
The beer -> one of the ultimate songs imo
loose lips

when a song has a callback to earlier songs on the same album or even songs from a previous album. that’s the good shit right there

Hiii!! Ufff I don't know how to tell you that I love your take on Floyd. like some bad bad life decisions were taken (THAT SO!!! INTERESTING FOR HIM). Do you think he ever feels ashamed of himself when he looks at Branch's eyes, like "shit, this guy really believes in me" or "he doesn't even know everything I have done"? Like he has some really BIG "Love me Less by Max" vibes
They all really believe in his goodness which is worse
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And OH he definitely feels so much shame and regret. I think a big part of why he fell as hard as he did was because he finally didn't have to be his brothers' mediator, and I guess at one point he forgot that he still needed to be the voice of reason for himself. His new band mates encouraging his reckless behavior didn't help. Honestly I personally think young Floyd was a very naive kid and very dependent on his older brothers but his strong empathy gave them all the impression that he was much more mature and independent than he really was...
So yeah... you can imagine that constantly partying, doing drugs and sleeping around wears someone down after a few years. I think Floyd also went gray like Branch (not for as long tho) and he broke up with the band wanting to go home badly, but he was also ashamed of showing his face after a number of years as a gray drug addict, so he kind of just ended up alone...
If we're sharing songs, I have to show you this one by Linkin Park because I think Floyd wrote it for Branch (and the rest of his family (and some parts also addressing himself)) while he was at that desperate and lonely period because I am also extremely emo

Too many thoughts, too many questions and a liiittle bit of mixed feelings. @percico-nicercy-events
Edit: Added Percy's eloquent blob under the cut! Just be warned that some parts are alright, but some others are pretty dumb 🙈
"He’s ALIVE and just now comes to save my ass and THIS is the first thing he says to me, seriously?? What the hell I can’t believe he’s taller than me, wow, unfair. Alright so brain get your shit together, we get Riptide and go help, get up Jackson! It’s time to stop running, if you run away again Niccolò I fucking swear to Tartarus I’ll go after you and no matter where in this godsforsaken world you try and go this time, I’m getting your ass back this time around. Also is that a trident but with two prongs? Like dad’s? Alright I need one of those, that looks so badass and he seems to just whirl it around so effortlessly, with that damn leather jacket and the piercings?? I mean where was this kid I swear, I don’t even know if I’m mad or really, really glad to see him again after all this time, who knows where he has been and how many monsters he has destroyed all alone just like that. I can’t understand why this feels like a complete miracle at this point brain please cooperate right NOW-"

Broppy Capture AU, where Branch didn’t confess after World Tour, but a love confession when all hope seems lost is just what they need to free themselves from Velvet and Veneer.
A version without text can be found under the cut.

I feel like Bruce would use his charm against Otto whenever he tries to mess with his brothers. Bruce sees Otto about to say something nasty to Floyd, calmly gets between them while giving Otto a Look™ and telling him to play nice, immediately flustering him so badly Otto has to run away to avoid embarrassment.
Not sure if Floyd and JD would find it funny or be horrified at the idea of Otto actually being into Bruce (even if it will never develop into a relationship).

The Talk consists of Bruce telling Otto to leave his brothers alone

THIRTY-ONE DAYS OF GHOST ⛧ DAY ONE
first song you heard — Mary On A Cross
September 1969; Papa Nihil and the beginning of the Ghost Project take to the stage at the Whiskey a Go Go club in Los Angeles, under the watchful eye of Sister Imperator. Fifty-three years later, in Tampa, Florida, Papa Emeritus the Fourth performs Mary On A Cross, unaware that he is singing the story of his parents—and that of himself.

Since we're talking names, I went to the fandom wiki to dig into Mirio's real name and hero name a bit more, and I'm even more convinced of my interpretation of his character and the depths to which he is meant to be a foil for Izuku.
Both of their hero names are calls to action created from puns of their given names. The first character of Izuku's name can be read as "de" which Bakugou used to call him Deku, worthless/a wooden doll, which Ochako reinterpreted as dekiru as in "you can do it!". Izuku writes his hero name in accordance with Ochako's interpretation, but it's still a homophone with how he was called by Bakugou. And that "you can do it!" is simultaneously Izuku's aspirations for himself, a callback to his origin, and a call to action for others.
Mirio's name is close to a homophone with the Japanese pronunciation of million, and his hero name is Lemillion. His goal is to save a million people. He lacks the ambition to save everyone or create a new framework for their society. Assuming Japan's population was around 126.8 million people during this chapter, Mirio's highest ambition was to save approximately one percent of the population. It's a grand goal for an average pro hero, but for a supposed fledging symbol that goal is nothing special.
There are conflicting indications in Mirio's name concerning One for All. Mirio's name does fit within the number pattern for One for All successors. His surname contains a kanji that can also be read as ten just like the "ku" in Izuku's name is a homophone for nine. But, his surname, Togata, can also be read as "conformity", which is the opposite of the role of a One for All successor.
All the One for All users went against the grain of their time. The first three went against the man who first brought society back together again after the Dawn of Quirks (because he was trying to rule over everything). Shinomori rejected the existing society entirely and lived in the woods. Banjo through Nana were swimming against the tide trying to keep society together and fight the ultimate villain during times of turmoil. All Might was an orphan who came from nothing who aspired to be a pillar for society to progress. Izuku had ambitions to include those excluded/disempowered by All Might's era of peace (not that Izuku thinks poorly of All Might but they have disagreements concerning questions like can everyone be saved or are their inherently evil quirks).
Mirio's rationality and achievable, grounded goals just don't mesh well with the ethos of One for All despite the surface level compatibility.
Tl;dr: Mirio isn't crazy enough to be a One for All successor

#joe ramirez#joseph ramirez#band of brothers#rene l. moreno#mine: gifs#hispanic heritage month#latino heritage month#sources vary on whether he was a Private or PFC#they seem to have taken A LOT of creative liberties on the show bc#the only 2 anecdotes about him in BoB seem pretty diff from his character on-screen#not to mention that he would've been in the hospital during events of episodes 8 and 10 (each of which he's in several scenes)#on the other hand i do really like his character in the show and think he's one of the best and most underrated background characters#and why yes i am completely normal about him 😅#but also i'm sure he would've been great too if they'd made him more accurate to what limited info exists about the IRL guy#I forgot to save a few of the documents that bleedingcoffee42 sent me unfortunately but these are most of them!#but from one of them (his draft card?) i discovered he lived like 1.5 miles from my grandparents!!#(tho of course they moved there in the 50s so who knows if he was still living at same address by then... but still!)#oops i originally had the episodes he's in listed wrong on this#so AFAIK he's only NOT in eps 2 and 9#in ep 1 he's twirling a knife at the beginning and eating spaghetti next to Guarnere and Malarkey and playing basketball in England#in ep 6 he's eating the bean soup near the line when Sink arrives#in 7 he's sitting next to popeye and then in the church at the end (maybe in Foy but i'm not positive)#in ep 3 i thiiiink he's in Carentan next to Buck? and he's at the party in England sitting next to Lipton and listening to Gordon#in 4 he's in too many scenes to list here#in 8 he's in too many to list#in 10 he's hunting for food with the group and standing next to Grant's shooter when Speirs comes in the room

it's beautiful to picture the anodic dance club as like, the new hot spot for the young people of martinaise to hang out and all bond with each other and have all their different worldviews mingle and create new things... but lbr chances are half of those people are going to end up just not really liking anodic music. like, thanks for keeping the pale hole contained or whatever but this music blows
