[After one of Fumi's experiments]
Otome: Good lord! What is happening in there?!
Daichi: Aurora Borealis.
Otome: Aurora Borealis? At this time of year, at this time of day, in this part of the country, localized entirely within that room?!
Daichi: Yes.
Otome: ...May I see it?
Fumi: No.

At the start of the battle, Hibiki was filled with a nervous energy, but they had hope. They'd sacrificed so much to get to this point. All those lives lost to the void at their command couldn't be in vain. They had to do this. They had to win.
Yamato believed in them. While they still didn't know how they should feel about his plan for a merit system, Hibiki knew he was willing to do anything to achieve his goal. And Yamato was putting his faith in them to help him reach that goal. Surely, if Yamato believed in them for something this important, he saw that they had the power to do it. They couldn't fail.
Things were going well until the team destroyed the two tentacles and Mizar grabbed onto the building again. "Gah! It won't let go!" Daichi cries out. "Split up! Otome, Makoto, you take the one on the left!" Hibiki orders. They probably didn't have time to go at it one by one. The dragon stream was down to 80% according to Yamato's last update. These looked stronger than the last, they couldn't afford to waste any time.
Makoto was the first to fall. Still though, Hibiki was able to hold back the panic. Otome had strong magic abilities, she could handle herself until they beat the other tentacle and headed her way.
Hibiki and Daichi take out Mizar's tentacle once more and work on defeating the clones that break off. Otome finishes off hers as well. The team glances over to Mizar, hoping to see their efforts pay off.
Mizar takes hold of the building once again.
Hibiki wants to scream, they aren't sure how much longer they have to beat Mizar but they're sure they're quickly running out of time. "This is starting to get annoying." Daichi said, already heading towards the closer of the tentacles. It looks even stronger than the last. Hibiki goes after him and they continue fighting.
Daichi goes down next and it's all Hibiki can do to keep fighting. He had weakened it for them, they couldn't let his efforts go to waste. They also weren't sure how much longer Otome would be able to hold up, they needed to go support her. With the last of their energy, Hibiki set the tentacle ablaze, wiping it out.
Otome was doing her best, fighting off the clones that split off before they could further duplicate. Before she could beat any of them, the last piece of the tentacle attacked her, taking her out before she could react. Hibiki was all alone now with less than 40% of the dragon stream left.
Still though, they run towards their enemies. Hibiki couldn't use magic anymore, but they couldn't give up now. It didn't take long for them to realize they were stuck. The clones resisted physical attacks, and that was all Hibiki was capable of now. Unable to be defeated, the clones continued to multiply. But the clones couldn't take Hibiki down either. They had learned to nullify physical attacks, so nothing the clones did could actually hurt them. It was an endless cycle.
Each nullified attack and useless punch thrown was a devastating blow to Hibiki's hope. Everything was falling apart and there was nothing they could do.
When Yamato let them know the dragon stream was at 20%, Hibiki could hear the concern in his voice. Yamato was beginning to doubt the success of the operation. Hibiki had long since passed that point.
Tears stung at Hibiki's eyes as they stood there, surrounded by a growing number of Mizar clones. At this point they couldn't even get close to any of them to hit back. There was a barrage of attacks from all sides, doing no damage but keeping them from being able to move.
It continued like that for a while until finally, Hibiki received another call from Yamato. Their heart drops as they accept the call. "It's over, the dragon stream has run out."
Hibiki looked around the battlefield, at their fallen friends, at the enemies they can't beat, at where the dragon stream had held Mizar in place.
"I never stood a chance, did I?"
