ofmd s2 finale spoilers ahead

imma be real honest: upon my first watch of season 1 I really didn't like Izzy. even during every rewatch after that I didn't like him as a character. he was an asshole. everyone can agree on that. and that's why he's loved by so many fans. but I never threw hate onto those who loved him throughout season one. bc I knew how important his role in the series was and how important it was to have a character that most people don't like.

as season 2 went on he grew on me. right from the first episode. I understood it. now he is still an asshole (affectionately). but he's allowed me to open my eyes and appreciate his role in the crew. they are just as much his family as Ed's. izzy has become one of my favorite characters in this series.

hearing con talk about Izzy was another major reason for my change in heart. his words helped me open my mind and heart to Izzy. and seeing just how much this character has done for him and so many other fans makes me wonder how I ever didn't like Izzy.

I can admit that if you told me during my first watch of ofmd that I'd be crying over izzy dying in ed's arms I'd call you crazy. there is no way I would.

yet here I am doing just that. my love for Izzy was a slow burn. and enemies to friends if you will. but I am so so glad I have this love and affection for that twat.

he is not only the new unicorn of the revenge. izzy hands is our unicorn. the fandom's. the cast's. the crew's. everyone's.

rip you twat🦄

the fact that they use the figurehead izzy defaced for "not doing its job" to instead give him his purpose and identity back. the fact that figureheads were historically not only fixtures of stature and power but also, to their crews, "the eyes of the ship guiding them safely home". the fact that izzy protected the goth crew from a lot of edward's spiraling ire physically, the fact that when izzy was presumed gone and dead the ship was steered and then moored in a storm. the fact that without his intervention they would have likely died in that storm, but instead afterwards were able to be come across by the other half of their crew and brought "home". you see the vision, don't you?

I really need to shut up about Izzy Hands but can I just say I am so happy he's doing better. For like two entire episodes he was drunk, disheveled, and practically dying. His original peg leg broke. His hair was in his face. He looked like he was on the brink of losing it. He was berating his own reflection.

The crew coming together to help him really did seem to help him immensely. He's coping with the new leg, he's put together. The bottle of drink that was in his hand is completely gone. He's sharpening his skills, he's speaking coherently. I never thought I'd be happy to see Izzy Hands healthy and thriving, but I am, and I'm so relieved that the crew of the Revenge supported him when he needed them.
