Was just thinking about Carpenter today and remembered that I transcribed this quote from Meabh de Brun, given in response to one of the inquiries during the Season 1 Q&A. It encapsulates so many of the aspects of Carpenter that I love too, and since we’ve come such a long way since then, I figured it would be a good time to bring it back to the forefront of our minds:

"While media is becoming more and more comfortable with female characters who are unlikeable, and who are abrupt, and, you know, insulting, for the most part, they are portrayed as being incredibly slick and attractive and witty... What I love about Carpenter is that she is none of those things. She is abrupt, she is rude, she is— She never tries for anyone except herself, and even then... and when I say 'tries,' I mean in terms of activities, because God knows I certainly don't think she is putting any effort into her appearance whatsoever.

“And I just love it! She is not playing any political games or anything like that, she is just trying to get through the goddamn day. She gets to be that grizzled, haggard anti-hero detective character. It's an absolute joy. Just, you know, as an actress, I've never had the opportunity to play that kind of character before, and it is an absolute gift to have the opportunity to do so now. So, that coupled with the wild range of emotional extremes I get to try and portray, it's just been such a fantastic experience and I feel like I've really grown as an actor doing it... TL;DR: Carpenter is such a fucking badass anti-hero, and more importantly, a well-written and well-developed character with incredible depth.

Flower Face: an Elain Archeron playlist

This is my love letter to Elain Archeron, my interpretation of what she sounds like were she to exist as music. Consider this more as an experience and less a list of songs with lyrics that relate to Elain. @elainarcheronweek

My Elain is made up in part of deeply personal headcanons, plus versions of her in works by @bloomingdarkgarden (What Bloomed in the Dark Garden) and @thefangirlofhp (sillage). She is Danielle De Barbarac, a quiet girl with a rich internal world and a heart capable of feeling every emotion ten fold. She has one foot in The Dreaming world of the mystics, and one foot in her rapidly evolving life in Velaris. She wants to be seen for who she is and loved for who she is, gardening-scarred hands and all. She quietly yearns for someone she can't have, never once sharing her woes with any of her sisters. She brings things to life and values learning, creation, travel. This is a musical journey that represents my interpretation of Elain's soul, her internal world, her life in Velaris, her hopes for the future. (It is Elriel leaning, as a disclaimer, because ... I simply cannot help it.) I started off the journey with nature sounds, because Elain is so deeply tied to the land in my mind, and with lush, atmospheric music representing how she presents to the world. As the list goes on, we go deeper and more secrets are revealed until the songs become almost entirely instrumental (moody and brooding in nature to represent an emotional landscape). There are songs in different languages or without words entirely, to represent her displacement into an unfamiliar land, in a changed body, and the uprooting of her ingrained beliefs about that land and the creatures living there; about her integration into the Night Court and her insistence that she belongs. It ends with her prayer to The Mother.

Dina and Nina have always competed with each other since they were very young. Who will be the best, the most beautiful, the best boyfriend… everything was there. Newly arrived in Oasis Springs, both are infatuated with their handsome new neighbor, Don. Which of the two sisters will succeed in capturing the heart of the handsome neighbor? Or is it just a smooth talker playing with them?

Ce riche voile de fauteuil est une fort belle dentelle au fuseau. Elle est entièrement recouverte de points lances, noués et de points de boulogne pour les bords, ainsi que le démontre notre dessin grandeur naturelle qui représente la rosace du milieu.

Les barrettes qui relient les dessins entre eux soat recouvertes d'un feston lâche en soie d'Alger brun. La rosace du milieu est en soie d'Alger rose ancien de 3 tons, jaune de 3 tons, ainsi que les ornements des 4 côtés; ceux qui forment le coin sont bleu pâle de 3 tons recouverts en paillettes de métal doré et en soie rouge de 3 tons. Le travail est très simple et très original. Ce voile fera un superbe ornement de salon.

This rich armchair veil is a very beautiful bobbin lace. It is entirely covered with lance stitches, knotted stitches and boulogne stitches for the edges, as demonstrated by our life-size drawing which represents the middle rosette.

The barrettes which connect the designs together are covered with a loose festoon of brown Algiers silk. The middle rosette is in old pink Algiers silk of 3 tones, yellow of 3 tones, as well as the ornaments on the 4 sides; those which form the corner are pale blue of 3 tones covered in gold metal sequins and red silk of 3 tones. The work is very simple and very original. This veil will make a stunning living room ornament.
