What a difference 8 years makes in how Outlander sells the show!

OUTLANDER SEASON ONE WAS ABOUT "ROMANCE": Back in April 2015, Outlander PR wanted to play up the chemistry of Sam and Cait in order to sell the romance between Jamie and Claire--which was what the show was all about in season 1.

I recall shippers being over-the-top with joy because they interpreted this photo of Sam and Cait in a BED 😱 as evidence that they must be a real life couple (overlooking the fact that they were wearing street clothes and most likely there was a tech crew in the room.🤦🏻‍♀️)

IT'S JUST PR: Of course, the shippers didn't realize that what Sam and Cait were doing in the bed was just a PR pitch that has been used with other romantic (or potentially romantic) leads.

For instance, in the gif below, we see Gillian Anderson (Dana Scully) and David Duchovny (Fox Mulder) from The X-Files in bed as part of a tweet for a charity fundraising auction that the show was sponsoring.

OUTLANDER SEASON SEVEN IS ABOUT "FAMILY": Fast forward to June 2023. Outlander PR appears to want to sell the show using the appeal of the Fraser extended family--because now that is largely what the show is about.

So unless Sam, Cait and John Bell are involved in a triple 😱, I think it is safe to say that this is all just PR.

By the way, yes, John Bell said, "I just walked in to see what [Sam and Caitriona] were doing, and they were both just lying there in bed." However, he left out the part that they were WEARING CLOTHES. He also left out the part that there was (at least for the photo with the furry blanket at the top right of this post) SOMEONE TAKING PHOTOS (possibly even a camera crew).

How clueless do you have to be to continue to believe in the SamCait ship nearly four years AFTER Cait married Tony?🤦🏻‍♀️

I guess Sam is now in California with Pharos and Pieter. Because this weekend and almost next whole week they have activities in mountains and Pieter had tagged Sam before for next weeks activities. Then, like few minutes ago Sam liked idyllwildpictures. One of them who are now "at the top", in movie by the company is emrhyscooper, and he is now in Pharos Mountain Lodge. So guess that Sam is there. And this night (like 02:15 UK time, he posted on Twitter).

I don't know if it actually means anything, Anon. I guess it's possible. But Sam is supportive because Donal Brophy, one of Cait's long time Irish besties is part of Idyllwildpictures. Sam has been friendly with him since Outlander started. There he is in the back of this video 👇

Donal is Irish, used to live in New York for years, owned a restaurant/bar called Highlands. And that's where the Outlander Season 1 premiere after party took place in July 2014. 👇

You can see Donal also tagged Amy Shiels, who is also Irish. And was Sam's DATE for the premiere. I've posted all the insider source details from that many times.

Just now seeing a gif from Outlander episode 7:02 - ironically titled The Happiest Place On Earth. It’s one of the saddest episodes ever.

Nope, and don’t want them either.

Planes, Trains and Automobiles: the Journey to Gyeonju

20:00 Day -1: finished working a princess shift at the children’s ER, gased up, and drove to Durham. Stephen dropped the dog off with SaeRam and did the same.

22:00 Day -1: slept at Maddy’s on the floor on camping pad, Stephen on the couch. Woke up approximately every 15 minutes after 12:30. 

04:00 Day 0: Woke up, left for the airport. Checked bags at international counter behind Vietnamese families checking possibly all their belongings. Make it past the security dog in TSA, and was excited not to have to take shoes off or laptop/liquids out 

06:00 Day 0: five hour flight departed Raleigh to Seattle. uneventful, started reading “Pillars of the Earth” and watched an episode of Outlander 

11:00 Day 0 (08:00 local time): arrived in Seattle. Took the train to a different terminal. Tried to buy someChinese food but the card machines were not working. 

14:30 Day 0 (11:30 local time): departed Seoul for Incheon. 11-12 hour flight. Enjoyed “korean chicken” and salted caramel ice cream for lunch, ate a bunch of buffalo pretzels, watched “She’s the man”, and slept for about half the flight. The inflatable pillow I bought  is awkwardly big when confined to a small seat but helped with sleeping, not with burping though (a chronic plane problem for me). Similarly my feet still swelled even with compression socks on. 

02:30 Day 1 (15:30 local time): Arrived at Incheon airport Seoul. Breezed through COVID QR code check, customs, COVID testing (she was AGGRESSIVE with that swab), and bought SIM cards. 

04:20 Day 1 (17:20 local time): took the express train from Incheon airport to Seoul Station downtown. Took millions of escalators up and met up with Josh and Alexis near the KTX stations. Treated hunger to a bowl of soup with shrimp dumplings and noodles at a tiny shop in Seoul Station - hit the spot. Exchanged our 8pm KTX tickets for 9:30pm tickets (the last train of the night!) because Devin’s international flight got delayed by 2 hours after the plane was 5000 pounds overweight. Stepped outside for a bit to enjoy the balmy weather and city lights. 

06:30 Day 1 (19:30 local time) Got (second) dinner at the cafeteria upstairs. There were about 20 different food vendors and you selected what you wanted from their menus and paid at the entrance, were handed a numbered ticket, and watched a TV screen for your meal to be ready. All very efficient. Food was great, envious we don’t  have cafeterias like this in the US. Finished dinner  off with a maple syrup donut and grapefruit soda 

07:30 Day 1 (20:30 local time): Devin arrives, we went outside again for some fresh air, then waited for the KTX train on the platform, sipped some coffee for a headache

08:30 Day 1: (21:30 local time): KTX high speed train departs Seoul for Gyeonju. Train took two hours, and was so quiet and comfortable I spent most  of the trip sleeping and drooling in my mask. 

10:30 Day 1: (23:30 local time) Arrive Singyeonju station outside of Gyeonju. Davis, Gil, Matt surprised us by meeting us at the station. Glad they did because the last  bus left and taxis were hard to come by. They also checked us into our hotel which was a godsend. Taxis dropped us off at the Gyeonju bus terminal and we walked a couple blocks to our hotel

11:30 Day 1: (00:30 local time): got settled at Mini Maison Hotel, walked to the 7/11 down the street to buy Soju. Couldn’t find anywhere to sit and drink, so all 7 of us went back to our hotel room and *quietly* drank Soju much to the chagrin of the hotel owner until 2:30 in the morning. 

Total Travel Time (Greenville to Gyeonju): 39 hours 30 minutes

I should mention that Stephen and I did not sit together on either of our flights. Originally, Stephen was supposed to be on call Wednesday night but due to a happy scheduling error was on call the night before we left for Raleigh. I had a 6am flight on points and his would leave later at 10am. Fortunately when his call schedule changes (and Delta inexplicably changed his return  flight by two days) he was able to call and get the return flight rectified AND get his outbound flight moved to the same one as mine. So although we didn’t sit together, we did get to be on the same planes which was enough for me.

MacKenzie Mauzy & Scott Ratliff

I was very happy to learn that MacKenzie got married this past weekend to  Premier Lacrosse League player Scott Ratliff. Based on the photos of her on IG, she made a beautiful bride.

I became a fan of MacKenzie separately from S after I watched the TV show Forever. I very much enjoyed her in the role of Abigail, the great love of the central character, the immortal Henry Morgan. 

On MM’s wedding photo IG posts, there are still reminders of the time S and MM spent together over 4 years ago. For instance, S liked one of MM’s wedding photos and S’s friend Nicole liked all of MM’s wedding photos. (Someone also sent me a screencap that showed a relative of S's had liked one of MM’s wedding photos before deleting his like.) 

Fortunately for her, MacKenzie moved on from all the drama in the Outlander fandom to find someone who could love her and make a lasting commitment to her.

I wish MacKenzie much happiness in her marriage.🥂❤️

beneath the blue suburban skies: birthday fic for my beloved Suze!!! this features Rolling Stone Reporter!James and Music Historian!Lily, lots of Beatles references, and lots of poorly written music article coverage. second in my 70s music series, music for the neck downwards! rated T

pretty white smile: a canon one-shot that is lily-centric and a bit tonally different from my other stuff. this piece focuses on Lily’s struggles with blood prejudice, and how she deals with feelings of ostracism, and how that may manifest in her worldview; she’s a little less ‘happy go lucky’ than I write her in other one-shots, but she’s still Lily. oh and there’s a lot of jily, ofc. rated M

Homonyme: NOT JILY! a Bleur (Bill Weasley/Fleur Delacour) fic involving Hanahaki disease, yearning, a lil bit of jealousy, and some somewhat coherent French. rated M

the derelict art of letting go: James Potter grapples with losing his magic, the trauma thereof, and what it might be like to heal.  a They Lived AU that will not be going in my They Lived AU series because it is simply too angsty (and also a different universe). proud of my world building here! rated T

mellow is the man (who knows what he’s been missing): this piece is based on a prompt that EYE made up (’we made eye contact at a Led Zeppelin concert but my friends pulled me away to mosh before I could come say hello’) but i literally barely even did that. BUT Jily meets at a led zep concert that I over-describe by thousands of words. yeehaw, all hail robert plant, etc. rated T

it burns. it blinds. it blisters: my not-so-triumphant return to E fic! similar vibes to on heroism only in that it’s order!jily dealing with the idea of being separated. not in like,,,anything else LOL. very emotional prose, lots of internal narration from miss Lily. first person POV as well! what!!!! crazy!!!! rated E

Status In Quo: ladies and gentlemen and everyone in between, I give you: a canon Jily fic. shocking, I know. yeah, so this one involves a ‘status’ motif and is sort of snippets of important moments, I guess? it’s hard to explain. it also does mention GH so I upped the rating because sad. rated T

little waves our bodies break: answer to summer of Jily prompt: ‘thunderstorms/summer rain + nothing has changed me quite like you’ semi plotless, Jily vignettes centered around rain. Lily POV! rated G

finite incantatem: silly little ficlet based on the prompt “this time, when X walks away, Y doesn’t follow.” VERY silly stuff. we get idiot!James, we get exasperated!Sirius, we get a loud pronouncement that James wants to be Lily’s boyfriend. some utter nonsense for these trying times. rated G

foreigner’s god: this is somehow both a scathing indictment of commercial litigation and also a reincarnation Jily fic. trust me, IDK how we got here either. this fic is the answer to the prompt: “lovers in a past life but the new iterations are enemies to lovers and don’t remember their past lives,” which I saw and said “huh. guess it’s time to make that even more high concept, because I don’t have a life.” rated M

the ease of breathing: fluff one shot because I am A Loser who likes to write no-plot established relationship Jily to ease the slog of living. in this one, they say the big ILY for the first time. cute and James POV! rated G

spice and honey: Lily tags along with Petunia, her less-than-fantastic food journalist sister, to interview the young Michelin-starred rebel-chef James Potter, who proceeds to be unrealistically attractive and VERY interested in Lily. based entirely upon a 1988 mini-doc I watched on Marco Pierre White, because when I hyperfixate, I hyperfixate HARD. rated T

Icarus Falling: the Death Eaters have really fucked up this time!!! They’ve abducted Lily Evans Potter, and now they’re going to feel the very angsty wrath of one James Potter. and then die. they’re probably going to do that too. Has some dark themes, some violence y’all. rated (STRONG) T

BMWW 2: Revenge of the Nicknames: “Balcony Man” and “Window Woman” are back and crazier than ever! in which Lily and James stay up all night talking, Sirius is sassy af, and Peter makes a brief but impactful appearance. includes a first kiss, some mutual ogling, and lots and lots of (hopefully) funny bantering. rated T

invictus: angsty wartime!Jily dealing with the death of an Order member during a party at the Marauders’ house. Lily-centric, dealing in her grief and how it is to be a soldier at her age. rated M

I’d no idea (on what ground I was founded): Sirius and Harry have a late-night chat in Grimmauld Place about what James and Lily looked like. very much Harry Potter feelings, very much Sirius Black feelings. angsty!! rated G

color theory: essentially, how Lily falls in love with James in the wake of a failed first relationship.  we see her grow and understand more about herself and what it means to love and be loved. rated G

Growing Pains: small, They Lived AU where James is an emotional dad after school drop-off for his lil’ baby Harry, and Lily is a little bit exasperated but SO in love with him for it. Very fluffy. rated G

I’ve got all the riches, baby, one man can claim: MORE established!Jily fluff. this time, folks, James serenades Lily in the Common Room to the fantastic tune of “My Girl” by The Temptations.  Not a terrible amount of plot here, I must be honest LOL. rated G

An Assortment of Poems for Lily Evans: fifth year! Lily ends up with the Marauders’ Map one day by accident, which Sirius has charmed so that should she ever come across it, she’ll receive some very...interesting love poems allegedly from a certain Quidditch captain. Shenanigans galore! rated G

The Important Questions: established!Jily fluff fic in which they discuss the very benign and banal topic of...what was it again? oh, right. marriage. some Jily fluff and feelings from Lily’s POV. rated G

happy birthday, moony! a Remus Lupin birthday ficlet! slice-of-life moment in which the marauders wake up our favorite Gryffindor prefect on his birthday with the promise of no small amount of hijinks. short, marauders fun! rated G

like a cry at the final breath that is drawn: a Sirius Black and Harry Potter godfather&godson feelings ficlet. Essentially, Sirius reflecting on how grateful he is to be Harry’s godfather, but...emotionally. rated G

in the eye of the storm: a Jily proposal fic that takes place in the middle of a battle against Death Eaters, LOL. the vibes are very much Will and Elizabeth Swann, very much “you want to do this now?!” and some Jily feels and humor. rated G

en-dessous de la lune qui chante: a Regulus Black and Black brothers fic that depicts Reg’s final moments, along with when Sirius crosses the veil and the two brothers reunite. very emotional, lots of Black brother feelings. cried while writing, lol. rated G

I Will Carry You, Always: second in my They Lived AU series! James is recruited as Defense Against the Dark Arts professor for Harry’s second year instead of Gilderoy Lockhart, and this fic takes place on his first day arriving at the castle. lots of dad!James feels, Potter fam emotions. bisous, bisous: a Valentine’s Day fic! slice-of-life established Jily in the Three Broomsticks, based on a painting by American impressionist painter Ron Hicks called “Café Kiss.” James ogling and being in love with his girlfriend. short and sweet, a bit of Jily banter and a few smooches for the holiday. rated G

to be always kind and true: a confession of feelings fic that begins with James commenting on Lily’s hair, of all things. a piece with poetic love confessions, pining Lily, and their first kiss. 7th year Hogwarts era! rated G

find me a way (I’ll be yours in a landslide): short fic, little emotional look at the Potter family through Lily’s eyes when Harry is a baby. a slightly emo ode/slice of life fic. I just love them so much. rated G

The Frenzied Misadventures of Balcony Man and Window Woman: response to a prompt of: ‘it’s 3am why are you outside my window - are you trying to rob me?’ in which James is locked out of his flat by his scheming, evil flatmate (Sirius) and down on his luck, only to encounter the mysterious resident of apartment 3F, with whom he banters and tries to enlist for help. a meet-cute! personally I think this is my funniest fic, I must be honest. rated G

as you hold my (glove-covered) hands: modern hockey!James and figure skater!Lily AU, in which James is the captain of the Gryffindor Under 18s Ice Hockey team, and he is a smitten kitten for Lily, who’s been sharing his rink for the past few months. complete with mutual bumbling, a Christmas gift exchange, and cute teenage awkwardness! rated G

one long day (all my love will make you shake): the beginning of my They Lived AU series, in which the Potter Family (including Remus, Sirius, and Regulus) attend Harry’s first game as Gryffindor Seeker, as it appeared in the Philosopher’s Stone. cute, family feelings. James is an emotional dad! rated G

The Thing About Pureblood Parties: response to a Tumblr prompt for a jealous Lily! In which Jily attends their first big High Society Wizarding Event, and James is Too Popular for his own good. Lily takes notice of this. rated T
