How to Streamline Your Package Delivery with Automated Locker Systems
Managing package deliveries efficiently is more important than ever. Whether you're a business trying to keep up with growing demand or a consumer tired of missed deliveries, an automated package locker system is the perfect solution to streamline your package management process.
What is an Automated Package Locker System?
An automated package locker system is a secure, self-service solution that allows for the storage and retrieval of packages in lockers. These systems are typically used in apartment buildings, office complexes, and retail stores to simplify the delivery and pickup process. When a delivery arrives, the system assigns a locker to store the package, and the recipient is notified with a code to access their package at their convenience.
Why Use Automated Package Locker Systems?
Convenience for Recipients: One of the primary benefits of an automated package locker system is its convenience to recipients. You no longer have to wait at home for a delivery or worry about missed packages. With these systems, you can pick up your package at any time that suits your schedule, eliminating the hassle of rearranging your day for a delivery.
Improved Security: Automated lockers offer a higher security level than traditional delivery methods. Each package is stored in a secure locker, reducing the chances of theft or damage. The recipient is given a unique code to access their package, ensuring that only they can retrieve it.
Faster and More Efficient Deliveries: For businesses, automated locker systems improve operational efficiency. Delivery drivers can drop off packages quickly without interacting with recipients or waiting for signatures. This speeds up the entire delivery process, reducing delivery time and increasing the number of packages delivered daily.
Space-Saving and Organization: Automated lockers help optimize space. Instead of piled up in hallways or left in common areas, packages are securely stored in designated lockers. This helps keep spaces organized and reduces clutter, making it easier for businesses and residents to manage deliveries.
How to Implement an Automated Package Locker System?
Businesses or property managers should assess their space and delivery needs to implement an automated package locker system. Once the size and scope of the system are determined, it's important to choose a system that integrates well with current delivery processes and provides features like real-time notifications and secure locker access.
Incorporating an automated package locker system into your delivery operations not only enhances convenience but also adds a layer of security and efficiency. Itâs an investment that benefits both businesses and consumers by simplifying the package management process for all parties involved.

In The Murderbot Diaries: All Systems Red, an important plot point is the murder of the other survey team on the planet, DeltFall, by GrayCris. The first attempt to do so was via malware disguised as an upgrade package intended for their secunits. If it had been applied, GrayCris wouldâve been able to remotely take over the secunits and force them to murder the DeltFall team.
(notably, this attempt failed, and GrayCris had to hack the secunits in person, but thats not important for this post)
Importantly, GrayCris sent this same malware to Preservation Aux at the same time, intending to take over Murderbot. Take a look at the reason Murderbot gives for refusing the download:

âI donât do automated package updates anymore, now that I donât have to.â
Throughout the series, especially early on, Murderbot will bring up two things: The memory wipes it had undergone, and the mass-murder at itâs hands that had prompted said memory wipes.
In Artificial Condition, Murderbot goes back to the scene of the crime to figure out why it committed mass murder.

As it turns out, malware disguised as an upgrade infected the system and causes the deaths of 57 people.
it might be a stretch to assume that Murderbot subconsciously remembers the cause of the incident. the upgrade package was sent to the comfortunits, not the secunits. But we do know that Murderbot hacked its governor module almost immediately afterwards, so that it couldnât be forced to kill against its will ever again. It might be more accurate to call it a demonstration of autonomy.
The moral of the story seems to be that automatic updates are bad for security

Hello! I was wondering if I could request Topaz for your mystery plant series? If you don't mind, of course! I really like your works!
MYSTERY PLANT
Yandere!Topaz x Reader

The bulb of the strange plant shuddered. You stepped back, watching as the thick, golden-hued vines unfurled from the pod, slithering along the damp earth like greedy fingers. The energy you had poured into it moments ago still hummed in the air, a faint, shimmering light pulsing from the petals. Then, with a final tremor, the bulb split open.
A figure emergedâlimbs stretching, hair tumbling down. Her eyes locked onto yours, filled with a sharp intelligence that sent a chill down your spine.
âAhâ Her voice was soft, musing, like someone waking from a pleasant dream. âSo, youâre the one who gave me life?â
She took a step forward, bare feet pressing into the soil. The vines behind her coiled and pulsed, as if still connected to her, feeding her energy.
Her head tilted slightly. âMmm⌠Youâre quite the generous one, arenât you? Giving me all this energy⌠It almost feels like a contract.â
Before you could step back, a soft touch grazed your wrist. You felt the energy between you shift, like invisible threads tangling, tightening.
âSo tell meâŚâ Her eyes gleamed, âHow long do you plan to take responsibility for me?â
Numby appeared moments after Topaz, its small, round form emerging from the remnants of the bulb like a creature shaking off sleep. It let out a soft, inquisitive hum before rolling over to your feet, sniffing at the energy still lingering in the air.
Your brow furrowed. This⌠wasnât supposed to happen.
Normally, when you used your energy to create artificial plants, there was only ever one spawnâone life form birthed from the process, no more, no less. It was a fixed rule, something you had confirmed through trial and error countless times. But now, standing before you, were two.
Topaz must have noticed your expression because she let out another small giggle, tucking a lock of hair behind her ear as she crouched down to stroke Numbyâs head. âSurprised?â
âYou shouldnât exist like this,â you said plainly, eyes flicking between her and Numby. âThereâs only ever one spawn per creation. Something about you is⌠different.â
Topaz hummed at that, tapping a finger to her chin in mock contemplation. âDifferent, huh?â A mischievous smile curled her lips as she straightened, stepping even closer to you. âThen maybe that just means I was meant to be special.â
She reached out again, fingers brushing against your wrist as if testing the connection between you two. Numby let out a small trill, nudging against your leg, its presence reinforcing the reality of the situation.
---
The streets buzzed with the usual hum of city lifeâvoices overlapping, machinery whirring, advertisements flashing on massive holo-screens. It was nothing new to you, but for Topaz and Numby, it was an entirely different world.
Topaz walked beside you, taking everything in with calculating eyes. Numby, on the other hand, had taken to perching on her shoulder, its ears twitching at every unfamiliar sound. Occasionally, it would let out a small hum of interest, only for Topaz to pat its head in silent reassurance.
You had expected her to be overwhelmed. Most spawns, even the strongest ones, took time to adjust to the sheer density of artificial structures, the lack of natural energy in the air. But Topaz? She was completely unfazed.
âThis place is noisyâ she mused. Her eyes flicked to an overhead drone delivering packages across the skyline. âBut itâs efficient.â
âYouâre handling this better than I expected.â
âWhat, did you think Iâd be clinging to you for guidance?â
You said nothing, and she laughed, her voice light but carrying that same undeniable confidence. âRelax, Iâm adaptable. Besides, youâre here to show me the ropes, arenât you?â
âRight. Come on.â
You led her through the city, pointing out the basicsâthe transport system, the automated shops, the information hubs. She absorbed it all quickly, asking the right questions at the right times, making it clear that she wasnât just following along but learning. Numby, meanwhile, had discovered the joy of vending machines, bouncing in place every time a drink or snack was dispensed.
At some point, Topaz stopped in front of a large stock exchange board, watching the numbers flicker and shift in real time.
âThis world runs on deals, doesnât it?â
You nodded. âMoney, contracts, tradesâitâs all about value.â
Topaz tapped a finger against her lips, a slow smile forming. âSounds familiar.â She turned to you, âThen I guess Iâll have to find my worth here, too.â
âCome on, teacher,â she teased. âShow me more.â
You werenât sure whether you were guiding her through the city or walking straight into a deal you couldnât back out of.
The day stretched on as you led Topaz and Numby through different parts of the city. She was sharpâfar too sharp for someone who had only just been born from your energy. Each new concept you introduced was absorbed quickly, as if she had already been familiar with the mechanics of this world and was simply refreshing her memory.
She tested things, too. When you explained the transport system, she didn't just nod alongâshe insisted on navigating it herself. Within minutes, she had accessed the terminal, calculated the most efficient route, and stepped onto the train like she had done it a hundred times before.
Numby, on the other hand, was less concerned with efficiency and more concerned with fun. It had taken a particular interest in the moving walkways, rolling across them in sheer delight until Topaz had to pick it up with an amused sigh.
"You really shouldn't be learning this fast" you muttered as the train doors closed behind you.
Topaz turned to you with a playful smirk, resting an elbow on the safety bar. "Shouldnât I? Or do you just not like how easily Iâm catching up?"
You frowned. It wasnât about prideâit was about how unnatural this was. Spawns always struggled to adjust, needing guidance, patience. Yet here she was, already blending into the world like she had always belonged.
"Don't think too hard about it," she added, leaning in just slightly. "Maybe I'm just special, remember?"
You let out a breath, watching as the city blurred past the windows. She wasnât wrong.
After a few more stops, you reached the marketplaceâan open plaza lined with vendors selling everything from high-tech gadgets to handmade crafts. It was one of the busiest areas in the city, a perfect place to see how Topaz handled crowds.
She thrived in it.
Where most newcomers hesitated at the overwhelming stimulation, she weaved through people effortlessly, stopping only when something caught her interest. A merchant showcasing valuable minerals? She analyzed them with a keen eye, even bargaining like she already knew the tricks of the trade. A food stall selling grilled skewers? She grabbed one without hesitation, offering you a bite with an easy grin.
"You should eat too," she said. "Gotta keep your energy up. Wouldnât want you collapsing on me, would we?"
You took the skewer with a sigh, watching as she turned her attention to a nearby digital board displaying the latest economic trends.
"You seem really interested in all this business stuff."
"Itâs just⌠familiar. Feels right, you know?"
Numby let out an affirming trill, rubbing against her cheek.
"Say," she mused, stepping closer, "you never did answer my question from earlier."
"Which one?"
"How long do you plan to take responsibility for me?"
Topaz stared at you. You had expected her to laugh it off, maybe tease you againâbut instead, she simply tilted her head.
"Until someone chooses me" she echoed, voice slow, deliberate. "Or until I can live on my own."
You nodded. "That's the purpose of my role. I bring things like you into existence and support them until they can sustain themselves. Itâs not about ownershipâitâs about balance."
Numby let out a small hum, nestled against Topazâs neck, but she barely reacted. Her focus was entirely on you.
"Thatâs an interesting perspective" she mused, taking a step closer. "But tell meâwhat if I donât want to be chosen by someone else?"
"Thatâs not really up to me. Everyone finds their own path eventually."
Her fingers tapped against her arm in thought. "And if I decide that my path is you?"
"Thatâs not how this works, Topaz" you said, trying to keep your voice steady. "You were born from my energy, but that doesnât mean you have to stay tied to me. Youâre supposed to grow, adapt, andâ"
"âand what?" she interrupted, stepping even closer. "Leave you behind?"
"You gave me life. Youâve shown me this world. And now youâre telling me that, at some point, I should just go?"
"Thatâs a flawed system" she finally said, crossing her arms. "If you bring things to life only to let them go, then what do you get out of it?"
You opened your mouth, but she cut you off with a knowing chuckle. "Let me guessââitâs not about getting something in return.â Right?"
Topaz sighed, shaking her head. "Youâre too selfless for your own good." Then, before you could react, she reached forward and grabbed your wrist.
"Fine," she said, squeezing just slightly. "If I have to prove I can sustain myself, I will. But donât think for a second that means Iâm going to walk away."
Topaz had already decided she wasnât going anywhere.
The day had been routineâanother cycle of creation, watching as new life formed and found their place in the world. You had always found a quiet satisfaction in it, knowing that your role was to guide and nurture until they could stand on their own.
Topaz had watched the process with a thoughtful expression, her sharp gaze analyzing every moment. She didnât say much, but you could tell she was absorbing everything. Even Numby, who usually found more joy in simple pleasures, had been curiously observing the way you worked.
By evening, you were preparing to head back when the distant sound of alarms cut through the streets. Smoke curled into the sky, and without hesitation, you, Topaz, and Numby rushed toward the source.
The fire had engulfed a grand estate, flames licking at the ornate walls, threatening to reduce everything to ash. The cityâs emergency forces were already responding, but there was too much damage spreading too quickly.
Without thinking, you leaped into action, using your abilities to create a barrier of plant lifeâmoist vines and thick roots curling against the fireâs edges to slow its spread. Topaz, never one to stand idly by, took charge of organizing the efforts, directing people to safety.
And NumbyâNumby was the true hero.
The small creature darted through the smoke, following the panicked cries of a trapped child. With incredible speed, it found its way inside and emerged moments later, the child clinging desperately to it. The sight of them, framed against the burning house, sent a wave of relief through the onlookers.
By the time the fire was under control, exhaustion had settled into your bones. But the gratitude on the faces of the family who owned the estate made it clear that your efforts had not gone unnoticed.
The patriarch of the familyâa man of considerable wealth and influenceâstepped forward, his expression grim yet grateful. "You saved my child. You saved us. Whatever you need, whatever is within my power, consider it yours."
You opened your mouth to refuseâafter all, this wasnât about rewardsâbut before you could speak, Topaz placed a hand on your shoulder, stepping forward with a confident smile.
"Actually," she said smoothly, "I do have a request."
The family turned their attention to her, intrigued. You, however, felt a sense of unease creep in.
"I want official recognition in this world. A place where I belong."
A silence fell over the group.
Topaz wasnât just asking for a favor.
She was securing her placeâpermanently.
The head of the wealthy family exchanged glances with his wife, then nodded. âThat is a reasonable request he said. âWe will make sure you are properly acknowledged.â
âGood.â Topazâs fingers curled slightly against your shoulder, grounding herself. âAnd one more thing.â
The man raised an eyebrow.
âI want to be registered with them,â she continued, glancing at you. âNot just as someone who exists in this world, but as someone under their care.â
You opened your mouth to object, but the patriarch simply nodded again. âThat can be arranged. Given the circumstances, it would be fitting.â
Fitting? Fitting?!
You finally turned fully to Topaz, lowering your voice so only she could hear. âWhat are you doing?â
She smiled innocently. âWhat do you mean? Didnât you say it yourself? You bring things like me to life, and you support us until we can live on our own.â
âThat doesnât mean tying yourself to me like thisâ
âYou said Iâd have to find my own path,â she murmured. âI just decided that my path is you.â
Numby let out a soft trill, as if agreeing.
Before you could protest further, the familyâs legal aide approached, already drafting the paperwork. âIf youâll both provide identification, we can finalize this within the hour.â
Topaz tilted her head at you expectantly, waiting.
You could refuse. You could fight this.
But looking at her now, at the way her grip on you never loosened, at the way her presence had already begun to entwine with yours like it was always meant to be thereâŚ
She had no intention of letting you go.
When the contract was signed, Topaz beamed, her eyes shining with satisfaction. The rich familyâgrateful for the fire rescueâhandled everything swiftly, securing her official residency papers, identification, and even setting her up with financial resources.
It should have been a relief. Instead, you couldnât shake the feeling that something had shifted.
âThis means Iâm officially part of this world nowâ Topaz mused, stretching her arms with a pleased sigh. âNo more uncertainties, no more temporary existence. You really are reliable, arenât you?â
She turned to you, her gaze lingering just a second too long before she grinned. âNow, all thatâs left is securing my future. I should get a job.â
The declaration caught you off guard. âA job?â
âOf course,â she replied easily. âYou said it yourselfâpeople here need to be able to support themselves, right? If Iâm going to stay, I should learn how this world works firsthand.â
Over the next few days, Topaz threw herself into researching job opportunities. She poured over listings, asked you endless questions about different careers, and even dragged you to various workplaces to observe how things functioned.
She was meticulous, but more than thatâshe was determined.
It didnât take long for her to settle on what she wanted.
âIâve decidedâ she announced one evening, leaning against the table with a triumphant smirk. âI want to work in finance.â
The moment she set her sights on the industry, she moved quickly. The rich family pulled a few strings, arranging an interview for her at a prestigious firm. You thought she might need time to prepare, but Topaz approached the opportunity with an unsettling confidence.
âTheyâll love meâ she said with absolute certainty. âAfter all, I know exactly how to get what I want.â
And she did.
She aced the interview, securing a position almost immediately. The higher-ups were charmed by her charisma, her keen eye for opportunities, andâmost of allâher aggressive approach to negotiations.
âI made quite the impressionâ she told you afterward, her eyes glinting with amusement. âThe hiring manager said I was relentless. Can you believe that?â
You could.
You really, really could.
With a job now anchoring her to this world, Topazâs presence in your life should have lessened. She should have become busier, more independent, more focused on her own path.
Instead, she became even more involved in yours.
She adapted quicklyâtoo quickly. She learned how to balance her work while ensuring you remained within reach at all times. No matter how much time passed, no matter how late her shifts ran, she always made time to check in on you.
âDid you eat today?â she would ask, appearing at your doorstep unannounced. If you hesitated, even for a second, sheâd already be pulling out pre-packaged mealsâones she had chosen for you.
âI heard you had a long dayâ she would say, messaging you before you even got the chance to tell her.
âI made sure you werenât overworkedâ sheâd mention casually, dropping hints that she knew more about your workplace than she should.
Everything had been moving so fast. Topazâs job, her increasing presence in your life, the way she always seemed to anticipate your needs before you even voiced them. It was suffocating, but you convinced yourself that she was simply adapting to her new life.
That illusion shattered the night you found the hidden clause in the contract.
While cleaning, a stack of old documents caught your eyeâthe papers from when the rich family arranged Topazâs residency. You skimmed through them absentmindedly, expecting nothing unusual.
Until you saw it.
A clause written in fine print, nearly imperceptible at first glance:
âThe creator assumes responsibility for the subjectâs well-being and longevity. Any attempts to abandon, neglect, or separate from the subject will result in automatic reinforcement of binding protocols.â
The contract wasnât just about giving Topaz legal statusâit was a binding agreement tying you to her indefinitely.
A pair of familiar arms wrapped around your waist from behind.
"You finally noticed, huh?"
Topazâs voice was warm against your ear, dripping with amusement. Her grip tightened slightly, just enough to keep you in place.
âI was wondering when youâd find out.â
"Topaz⌠what did you do?"
She hummed, resting her chin on your shoulder. "Nothing too drastic. I just made sure you wouldnât leave me behind."
"I knew you'd be hesitant," she continued, as if this was completely normal. "So I planned ahead. This world is unpredictable, after all. What if you decided I didnât belong here? What if you thought Iâd be fine on my own?"
Her fingers traced lazy patterns against your skin, her voice lowering to something almost dangerous.
"I couldnât risk that, could I?"
You should run.
But when she turned you around, her eyes burning with possession, your body betrayed youâdrawn into a kiss that sealed your fate.
Your breath came in shallow gasps. The weight of the revelation crushed you, and before you could reactâbefore you could even thinkâTopazâs arms tightened around your waist.
She was stronger than she looked.
"Let go" you choked out, trying to push against her hold, but she didnât budge.
âWhy are you fighting me?â she murmured, her voice soft, coaxing, as if she were gentling you instead of trapping you. âDidnât I do everything right? I worked hard, I adapted, I made myself worthy of this worldâworthy of you.â
Her fingers dug into your sides slightly, grounding you, keeping you from slipping away.
"Thatâs not the point, Topaz!" Your voice wavered, frustration and something dangerously close to fear creeping in. âYouâre a kind person. You saved that child. You helped people. Whyâwhy go this far? Why force me into this when I never even tried to abandon you?â
âExactly,â she whispered. âYou never tried to abandon me⌠yet.â
Her hands trailed slowly up your arms.
âBut what about tomorrow? What about a year from now? What if one day, you wake up and decide you donât need me anymore?â
âYou create life, but you donât keep it. Everything you bring into this world gets adopted, moved, taken away.â
âI refuse to be just another creation that slips through your fingers.â
You struggled harder, twisting in her grasp, but thenâ
Thud
Something heavy landed against your feet, pinning them down.
Numby.
Then, the creature had plopped its entire weight onto you, pressing firmly, restricting movement.
âNumby?â
It cooed, rubbing its head against your legâbut it didnât move off you.
Topaz exhaled, pleased. âGood job, Numby.â
"You even got Numby involved in this?"
âOf course,â she said lightly. âNumby loves me. And Numby knows whatâs best for me." She leaned in, her breath fanning against your cheek. "And whatâs best for me⌠is you.â
"I wonât let you slip away."
Then, before you could protest, her lips descended on yours again.
You tried to move, but between her grip and Numbyâs weight, you were utterly trapped.
The worst part?
Somewhere, deep down, beneath the shock and the fearâyou kissed her back.
Your teeth sank into Topazâs lower lip, hard enough to taste blood.
She let out a sharp breath, momentarily loosening her grip. You should have used that moment to push her away, to runâbut you didnât.
Because despite everything, part of you knew it was already too late. You werenât going anywhere.
Topaz's tongue flicked out to taste the blood, a smirk forming as she gazed at you. âYou still have fight in youâ she murmured. âGood. I donât want you to break too easily.â
Numby pressed more of its weight onto you, ensuring you wouldnât try anything else. It cooedâas if this was just another routine moment.
You had little choice. Within days, you were packed up and moved to a new place.
It wasnât just a different neighborhoodâit was an entirely separate sector controlled by Topazâs people. A district bustling with traders, enforcers, and business elites, where everything operated under the watchful eye of a single authority: Topaz.
It was clear you wouldnât be able to escape. Not when every street had her people stationed, not when Numby would follow you everywhere, ensuring you never wandered too far.
And Topaz?
She was busyâso busy.
You watched from the sidelines, carefully observing as Topaz commanded her subordinates.
The room was grand, a luxurious office filled with data projections and financial reports, with enforcers and officials standing at attention.
She sat at the head of the table, completely in control.
âProfits are up by 12%, but our collection efficiency is still below expectationsâ one of the officers reported.
Topaz crossed her legs, fingers tapping against the polished desk. âUnacceptable.â Her voice was sharp, unwavering. âI donât care if the clients have excuses. We donât run a charity.â
No one dared to oppose her.
âDouble the enforcement on delinquent accounts,â she continued smoothly. âAnd if they canât pay, remind them what happens to those who waste my time.â
The enforcers nodded immediately, moving to execute her orders.
Even in her absence, her power was absolute.
After an entire day of watching her command, dictate, and controlâafter witnessing the sheer authority she wielded over her subordinatesyou expected her to return home and carry that same presence with her.
But you were wrong.
The moment she stepped through the door, the aura of the ruthless executive vanished.
âY/N~â
Her voice was warm, almost syrupy as she called out to you, and before you could fully react, she had already wrapped herself around you, arms winding tightly around your waist.
Numby cooed happily beside her, nuzzling against your leg as if this had become an established routine.
You stiffened, still unsure how to react to this softer version of her.
Topaz pressed herself closer, resting her head against your shoulder with a satisfied hum. "Mmm⌠finally home."
âYou were just terrifying a few hours ago,â you muttered. âOrdering enforcers to hunt down late payments, making your subordinates trembleââ
âAnd now Iâm here,â she interrupted, nuzzling against your neck, âwhere none of that matters. Just you, me, and Numby.â
âYouâre the only one who gets this side of me.â
ââŚYouâre not letting me go, are you?â
She laughed softly, her breath tickling your skin. âNever.â
Then, before you could process it, she leaned up and pressed a soft kiss to the corner of your lips.
âNow,â she purred, her eyes twinkling mischievously, âwhy donât you tell me how much you missed me?â

@runwiththerain hello hello! here's your secret santa gift for @/offline-nobody's hermit secret santa event :D
It turns out that when Hermitcraftâs automated mail system goes down, theyâre very lucky to have a moth hybrid as a postmaster.
Late December is the worst possible time to discover a system glitch â nearly every Hermit is expecting something, whether itâs a gift from a friend, a request for a shop restock, or a new winter coat from off-world. No one from PET Post had even thought to check in on it until nearly twenty packages had backed up in the post office. Etho and Tango are working to fix it now, but since thereâs no indicators of where the problem lies (and yes, Etho did check the whole system for potatoes), it could take all day. That unfortunately leaves Pearl, the winged hybrid with the fastest travel speed of the trio, to manually deliver all the mail herself.
Pearl scans over the post office one more time to make sure she hasnât missed anything. One more outgoing delivery pops up, to her surprise: a little package hidden in a cabinet, addressed to Gem in Pearlâs own handwriting. Right â sheâd packed it up a few days ago but never got the chance to put it in the system. She tucks it safely into her mailbag, then takes out a piece of paper and scribbles a message onto it.
Out delivering packages! Please leave all outgoing mail here. The redstoneâs being mean today :( -PearlescentMoon
A few curious pogts peek out of cabinets and wave to Pearl. One climbs up onto the desk and grabs the note in its mouth, then walks away with it to find an envelope.
âHey!â Pearl laughs, snatching her message back. âThatâs not a letter, you nugget! That stays here for the Hermits. Iâm gonna be out all day.â She adjusts her cap and slings her heavy mailbag over her shoulder. âTake care of the post office for me!â
The pogt squeaks and waves goodbye. Pearl dashes out the door and takes flight, headed for xBâs mailbox. Zero packages down, twenty to go.
Inside the post office, meanwhile, a few pogts climb up to the desk to join their friend. They squeak an indecipherable conversation. After a moment, one rifles through a drawer to find an envelope, while another runs off and returns with Pearlâs favorite stamp. They tuck Pearlâs message into the envelope and prepare to drop it into a mailbox, but one of the pogts remembers the broken mail system and takes the letter itself instead. It studies the stamp and squeaks a question to its friends, then nods and waddles towards the door with one destination in mind.
The moment the door shuts behind it, Tango walks in to grab a few supplies before returning to his redstone work. The conspiring pogts all scatter and roll around on the desk in an unsuccessful attempt at acting casual. Tango chuckles. âWhat are you little critters up to?â
They squeak innocently in unison.
He shakes his head. âNot gonna question it.â
----
As GeminiTay settles down to eat dinner, thereâs an unexpected knock on her door.
Well, âknockâ isnât quite the right word. It sounds more like someone repeatedly throwing a ball at it, accompanied by a little squeak every time. âHello?â Gem calls.
No one responds, so Gem puts down her mushroom soup and walks over to the door. The knocking sound continues. âHold on a sec, Iâm coming!â
Gem opens the door. Thereâs no Hermit there to meet her, but a small, fuzzy ball comes flying through the doorway with a startled squeak instead. It lands, rolls a few blocks, then stumbles to its feet (oh, itâs some kind of creature) and adjusts the flower on its head.Â
Gem stares down at it, and it awkwardly waves hello to her. She bursts out laughing and scoops whatever-it-is up in her hands. âWhat are you doing here?â
It holds out a letter, unaddressed but marked with a clear GeminiTay stamp.
âOh, do you work for the post office?â Gem asks. âIs this a special delivery?â She takes the letter, puts the pogt down on the floor, then opens the envelope.
Out delivering packages! Please leave all outgoing mail here. The redstoneâs being mean today :( -PearlescentMoon
Gem rereads the message, puzzled. âHey, this isnât a letter for me! Did you take this from the post office?â
The pogt squeaks and bounces onto Gemâs shoe. She isnât sure she can translate it right, but she gets the sense itâs trying to say something like yeah, but itâs important and we wanted you to have it. (Either that, or sheâs just convinced herself that Pearlâs post office creatures think sheâs an important person. Sheâd like to think itâs the former.)
âAw, well, thanks for the gift,â Gem says. She picks up the pogt again, prepared to take it back to the post office, when something occurs to her. âWait, I havenât seen her fly by yet. How long has she been out for?â
The pogt tilts its head sideways in thought, which only succeeds in making it fall over sideways. It squeaks in surprise, stands back up, and shakes its head as though to say no idea.
Gem glances out the window at the rapidly darkening sky. She always forgets how fast the sunset goes when she isnât thinking about it. Pearl definitely wouldnât have gone for a serverwide flight past sundown, especially not without a fast-travel system like a nether hub. She must have been out for hours by now.
Gem chuckles and puts her head in her hands. Only you, Pearl. âAlright, well, Iâve got some cookies in the pantry from yesterday. Maybe Iâll make her some cocoa. Might as well give her a safe place to land when her wings get tired.â
The pogt bounces up and down, probably to mean now youâve got it!
âIâm not taking you home, though. I donât even know how you got here.â Gem walks away, headed for the kitchen. âAnd you canât eat my food.â
The pogt waddles after her and squeaks.
âFine,â Gem says. âYou can have one cookie.â
----
Nineteen packages down, one to go.
Pearl thought sheâd finished all her deliveries by now, but nope, sheâs missed another one again. Gemâs parcel fell to the corner of her mailbag, buried under an enormous box addressed to Scar (cat toys for Katy Bee and Mr. Finnegan, judging by the jingling sound) and a shiny silver package for Joel which could only be from Lizzie. Sheâs not too far from Magic Mountain, luckily, but nightfall has made the air much colder. Not to mention that sheâs been flying for hours with an overstuffed mailbag, and her wings havenât been this tired in ages. Gemâs base might as well be on the other side of the server.
Still, her job is to deliver the mail. And itâs only one package. Itâs no big deal. Pearl sighs and turns around in midair. One package to go.
Gemâs lighthouse is a beacon in the distance, slowly coming into view as Pearl soars toward it. Pearl is almost disappointed by the effective lighting â she must look like a wreck after hours of flying around the server, and she certainly doesnât want that to be illuminated for the world to see. She waves hello to Gemâs lighthouse fish as she finally reaches it, hesitates in midair, then tries to drag herself away from the bright light. Nope. No moth instincts. I have a job to doâ
Unfortunately, one moment of shiny-thing distraction is enough to cause a problem. As Pearl leans towards the light, her wings rest at the exact right angle for the wind to catch them and blow her off-course. She tries to right herself, but her back is too sore to do much more than flutter her wings in place. She tumbles into the ocean below with a shriek.
The cold December waters come as a shock â it takes Pearl a moment to get her bearings enough to tread water. She hears a small object land with a splash next to her, but sheâs too busy floundering about to pay it much mind. To her surprise, something hooks onto the collar of her shirt and tugs her towards the dock. She looks up to see Gem smirking down at her with a fishing rod in her hand. âCaught a big one!â
Pearl rolls her eyes. She canât help but laugh. âEvening, Gem.â
Gem reaches out a hand to help Pearl onto the dock. âHeard you had something for me.â She unhooks the rod from Pearlâs shirt.
âIndeed I do!â Pearl checks the clasp on her mailbag, which has thankfully held strong as usual. âLast delivery of the day. Thank goodness.â
Gem links her arm into Pearlâs and drags her towards her house. âAlright, câmon. Youâve been out for hours.â
âWasnât that bad,â Pearl says. âOnly twenty packages.â
âYeah, only twenty. By hand.â Gem leads Pearl to the kitchen table, pulls out a chair, and shoves her into it. âPearl, youâre insane.â
âYou know the slogan. Neither rain or snow, nor death of night.â Pearl shrugs. âOr freezing cold ocean, I guess.â
âYeah, yeah.â Gem takes two cups of cocoa from their perch atop the warm furnace. She puts one in front of Pearl, then sits down herself. âStill. Whoâs gonna deliver the mail if you get hypothermia?â
âAw, is this you worrying about me?â
âMe? Never.â Gem points to the corner. âOh, look, your friendâs here.â
The runaway pogt waddles over to the table with a tray of cookies balanced atop its flower. Pearl laughs, eyes wide. âHowâd it get here? Weâre chunks away from the post office.â
âI have no idea. But it delivered me a message. Something about you being out of the office all day.â
âOut of theââ Pearl spots the envelope on the table. âOh, you nugget, I told you that wasnât a letter!â
It squeaks at her.
âOh, okay, fine. You helped.â
It squeaks proudly and curls up in her palm. Pearl laughs. âNothing but trouble, these little ones. Reminds me of someone.â
âI made you treats!â Gem says indignantly.
âI suppose you did,â Pearl teases back. She lights up and reaches into her mailbag. âOh, that reminds me! I made you something as well.â
âYou did?â
âI did!â Pearl takes the final parcel from her mailbag and presents it to Gem with a flourish.
âI expected a restock request, honestly. You and your pickles. My pickles.â Gem opens the parcel and peeks into it. She looks up at Pearl with a surprised grin. âOh, my gosh! You made this for me?âÂ
She takes out the contents of the package: a Christmas card and a little plush shark. The sharkâs eyes are the slightest bit wonky, giving it a goofy expression both women canât help but smile at. âLook at it!â
âTo match your ocean theme!â Pearl beams. âItâs made of wool from a couple of messed-up banner patterns. I hope you donât mindâŚâ
âNo, itâs perfect.â Gem hugs the shark close. âI will name him Fish, and he shall be mine forever.â
âFish! I love it.â Pearl stands and stretches her wings. âI guess I should get back to the post office. The automated system wonât fix itselfââ Her communicator buzzes.
<TangoTek> Mail system debuggification complete!Â
<TangoTek> A few of those darn pogts got into the redstone
Pearl shows the communicator to her pogt friend, who looks away sheepishly. âYou know anything about this?â
It squeaks in dismay and waddles off. Pearl chuckles. âWell, would you look at that?â She sighs. âI should probably stillâŚâ She tries to flutter her wings again, but they ache almost too much to move. âI meanâŚâ
Gem laughs. âYes, Pearl, you can stay the night.â
âAw, youâre the best.â
âI know.â Gem blows Pearl a kiss.
Pearl smiles. âYâknow, after I get some rest⌠you think the pogts would make good mailmen? They seem to get around pretty well.â
Gem leans her head on Pearlâs shoulder and laughs. âOnly you, Pearl.â Cozy and warm inside Gemâs base, Pearl closes her eyes and smiles. Maybe the postal system can wait just a little bit longer.

Headcanons About Dion:

He's not a blushing virgin. He found the time between being on the run and completing missions to figure out that he's gay. He has even managed to fool around a little, though he never actually topped or bottomed. It was mostly hands and mouths.
He adored Arthur from the first moment he saw him, and knew from first glance that this was the man he'd been waiting for. There was something about Arthur that just called out to him.
Doesn't actually need his glasses to see. They're for reading nearly microscopic print in Corpus contracts so he doesn't get scammed. They also help him catch small details he might miss.
He draws and paints as a sort of secret hobby, and keeps sketchbooks full of artwork hidden away from everyone. He also paints all of his warframes himself, by hand, instead of letting the Arsenal's automated systems do it for him. He likes putting his personal touch into every warframe he keeps.
Doesn't remember how old he exactly is -- or his birthday for that matter, but he appears to be in his late 20's to early 30's.
Wears purple and blue because they are his favorite colors.
Favorite flower is the Moonlight Dragonlily.
Was severely underweight and malnourished when he first arrived in Hollvania, because of a life lived constantly on the run. He had to eat small portions due to the food being too rich for him. He'd just throw it all back up if he tried to eat a normal sized portion.
His weight was frankly horrifying to Arthur, who saw how skinny Dion was without clothes on, and took it upon himself to package up a bunch of small portions labelled 'Drifter.' That way, Dion could just grab food whenever he felt hungry - which was often.
Dion's use of void powers burns a lot of calories, so he was constantly snacking on something throughout the day until he reached a more stable and healthy body weight. He was able to tone down the snacking once he was able to eat normal meals.
Dion also had trouble sleeping up until he was in the backroom. There was nowhere that was truly safe for him to be until then. In Duviri he was hunted like a rabid dog that needed to be put down, and he didn't feel like he belonged on Earth in the future.
Considers Aoi, Kaya and Lettie his sisters. Will actually be Eleanor's brother-in-law if he and Arthur decide to get hitched.
Considers Amir his brother. He always wanted a brother.
Considers Quincy a very dear friend and also his guide to all things 1999. Quincy is also the best wingman he could ask for. He helped Dion to fit in better, and to not be so socially awkward.
Is incredibly fond of Flare and often does their makeup for them when they want a change from their glam rock appearance. He's also been known to hand paint pretty designs on Lizzie.
Thinks of Minerva and Velimir like an aunt and uncle. Minerva is the wine aunt and Velimir is the uncle with all the wild stories.

Doctor says, "Treatment is simple. Just use Poetry + pyenv, which combines the benefits of conda, venv, pip, and virtualenv. But remember, after setting up your environment, you'll need to install build essentials, which aren't included out-of-the-box. So, upgrade pip, setuptools, and wheel immediately. Then, you'll want to manage your dependencies with a pyproject.toml file.
"Of course, Poetry handles dependencies, but you may need to adjust your PATH and activate pyenv every time you start a new session. And don't forget about locking your versions to avoid conflicts! And for data science, you might still need conda for some specific packages.
"Also, make sure to use pipx for installing CLI tools globally, but isolate them from your project's environment. And if you're deploying, Dockerize your app to ensure consistency across different machines. Just be cautious about Dockerâs compatibility with M1 chips.
"Oh, and when working with Jupyter Notebooks, remember to install ipykernel within your virtual environment to register your kernel. But for automated testing, you should...
