#thinking of dinosaurs and troodontids were my favorite dinosaurs as a child #when younger i had a real full troodontid tooth fossil that meant a lot to me #for a time we lived within a few kilometers of hadrosaur sites and troodontid sites #while wider general area had many sites of recovery for the big celebrities like tyrannosaur and multiple dromaeosaurs #at that time troodontids were kinda infamous for i think the depiction in some childrens field guides and dino books #which depicted like a fantasy speculative humanoid troodontid based on 1980s model at Canadian Museum of Nature in ottawa #anyway would visit a small local paleo center a lot and woman in her 70s or 80s ran the counter of their center and rock shop #one day she asked me what my fave dino was and i said troodon so she pulled out the tooth and just gifted it to me #in little black case size of ring box with padding and transparent plastic viewing cover kinda like laminate for displaying a trading card #tooth got stolen from out my vehicle while giving some people a ride while at university before i got too poor for tuition #later during first year of pandemic owner of my storage unit died and new property owners threw away everything i ever owned #i was homeless anyway lost job due to early pandemic closures and had to allocate any money to insulin and other prescrip meds #but wouldve found a way to save my things if the new owners had contacted me #they threw out photoalbums y backpacking gear y books y musical instruments y clothes y artwork y camera y all family keepsakes #and all childhood treasures like souvenirs and gifts and school awards and writing portfolios and all the little memories #which i was always sentimental about as child #from earliest age my room looked like a natural history museum with plants and maps and library of field guides #and rocks and field trip keepsakes and all kinds of little animal figurines and mother had painted room in forest greens and browns #to feel like a forest and among the succulent plants and a globe sat the troodon tooth #parents passed when i was a child #never near any family and were always moving never got to settle into proper stable place then father passed after long sad illness #and mother put in so much effort but she passed few years later and i could not take care of myself or my remaining material possessions #and so im still quite hurt having nothing whatsoever remaining of my childhood or school friends or mother or life generally #and when trying to process grief my thoughts often come back to the troodontid tooth as a focal point a distillation of what was lost #even when young i knew it was advised not to become too connected to material physical possessions #but still there are some small little trinkets in our lives that seem to hold so much meaning and i tortured myself for losing that tooth #thinking about troodon reminds me of childhood

finally got my first aid kit set up. mostly prompted by my friend needing a bandaid today and i was like no fucking way my job is bandaid and i dont have one.

#I NORMALLY DO HAVE FIRST AID I JUST REDID MY BACKPACK :(#contents: gloves. half roll of gauze (blue at my request bc its my favorite color). gauze pad #bandaids. (waterproof or with fun colors. for morale). sanitizing wipe (human). sanitizing wipe (surfaces). tiny ointment #its in an old tea container thing with a bucees sticker on the side #aren treating a wound voice You have to recover. just think about beaver nuggets.

Naurrrr don't remind me I'm going to be an eighth grader in less that 2 weeks 😔😔😔😔

But actually I'm exited for the schedule bc it helps me keep track of time and my school is under construction so I'm excited for the renovation reveal. Buttttt I only have 3 classes w friends so that sucks.

And my school got rid of phones, backpacks, paper passes, bringing literally anything to pe and free will.

also another reason i play picc despite it causing my migraines is because i can use it to win arguments. Like any other instrument you have no right to complain about piccolo being "too high" when i am playing it and it gives ME migraines. like. ok coward. what do u even have to complain about

#also its literally NEVER the flutes or oboes (who sit on either side of me) complaining even though they are third closest lol #(first two closest being my right ear and my left ear respectively btw)#ive had them be like wtf thats so high when im on a REALLY stupidly high note but its always in solidarity with me lol #complainers are always like trumpets and low brass and its like Damn that sucks dude.#It must be so hard for u to be like 20+ feet away from it at all times. Sounds like the hardest thing in the world its a good thing nobody #in the ensemble has to specifically be exactly that distance closer to it. Say about 3in away Per Ear. That would just be. Awful #disclaimer picc is fun i love playing picc its great #other benefits include: small i can just put it in my backpack :) flute can also do that but only if i dont have a ton of stuff in there #actually easier to play faster passages than on flute bc the keys are smaller and therefore lighter #marching picc is great cause you dont have to worry as much about rain cause its so little #and also people Will hear u #fun fact my picc that i own has problems with the cork in the headjoint being loose #and therefore the crown and everything can just. Come out. (NOT supposed to happen)#so their name is Lottie which is short for. Lobotomy.#which reminds me i need to take her to a repair shop again bc not only is that cork loose AGAIN (i dont think they actually replaced it the #first time which is Annoying) But Also the glue on the pad on the A flat key has come out a few times. Which strictly speaking i can fix #myself bc its just hot glue and a lighter but it gives me an excuse to be like Hey. Replace the fucking cork this time okay? ive soaked it #about 8 million times and it didnt work. Its dried out i PROMISE it just needs replacing #maybe ill mention im a music student so they believe me

Reminiscing about my old diabetic bags </3

#smiles rambles #first diabetic bag was a black backpack #pretty big and a pain when I moved to highschool #cuz we couldn’t have backpacks on us first 4 years #it fell to pieces and smelled like pads by the time I went through it #then I got this awesom leather bag #which I really love and held together great #I just wanted a new one for college #which I didn’t like the other one #not enough pockets. the straps were bad #and overall a pain #next one was a camel pack which was great for hiking #and I really liked it #had a lot of spare #but carrying a backpack is inconvenient #i got a Lu Lu lemon bag for Christmas and because I no longer use the omnipod classic #k can fit my diabetic supplies in there #which not the ones I need can fit in there #don’t have a meter or syringes or anything #but it’s much nicer for quick trips #which I don’t really need all that stuff #if I need a longer trip I bring the rest of the stuff #but yeah #fun times #those bags went through it fr #diabetes talk

when someone asks me if i manage to get good sleep while camping and i go into my incredibly specific sleeping setup that allows me to sleep like a rock without fail

#base: ultralight sleeping mat. 1/8’’ foam rubber that protects and holds inflatable pad in place.#then inflatable pad. blown to about 90% fullness #sleeping bag 3/4 zipped up. inflatable pillow blown up to ~60%#duffel bag/backpack thrown into left half of tent so my sleep kit is precisely wedged between bag and door #i’m precisely wedged between bag and door so i can’t roll off the pad. and the bag supports my back #boom. perfect comfort. i fall asleep in 10 minutes and do not wake up til the morning.
