Choice by Omni (wc8613, teen)

Summary: Derek knows what it feels like to not really have a choice, what it’s like to be manipulated. He’d never take away someone’s right to choose freely. The fear of even accidentally doing so is enough to hold him back from acting on his own feelings. Stiles has never had a problem making his own choices, and fuck anyone who would try to tell him he can’t. (Or: Stiles gets bitten by a different alpha, but of course would prefer to have Derek as his alpha. And also just, you know, have Derek.)

This one is also a good one:

Throw Me to the Wolves by @pantstomatch (wc13493, teen)

Summary: He feels the physical embodiment of devastated, his already too strung-out mind struggling to wall up all the hurt, the rejection—he takes a deep shuddering breath and looks down at the shredded skin on his arms, at the sluggish way they’re weakly healing. There is nothing, nothing he wants more than to have Derek sweep in and make everything all better. He should have known, though, that something like that would never happen to him. OR - Stiles accidentally gets bitten, and everything goes to hell.

Summary: Stiles just knows he’s going to get lost in the woods. There must be a Laura Palmer reference in there somewhere. A fork in the road retelling of Teen Wolf where Stiles is the one to get bitten.

It’s not that Stiles hates his neighbor. Sure, he’s a huge jerkface who wears leather jackets, douchy sunglasses and routinely tries to murder Stiles with his eyes. 

But Stiles doesn’t hate him. He’s not sure he’s capable of hating someone that smoking hot.

A Royal Christmas Engagement – An arranged marriage, mistaken identity, a/b/o, accidental heat fix

Young omega Warden Lord Mieczysław Stilinski, given the royal request of marrying Crown Prince Derek Hale of Triskelion, predictably messes the whole entire thing up.

Filter Out the Starlight - A heartbroken Stiles accidentally travels back in time to find his one true love. A harlequin-ish Christmas romance.

“Why are you not more curious about me?” Stiles says when Derek’s got the door half open, sun spilling over the dark wood, dust motes spinning about his legs. Stiles is wearing fabric that hasn’t been invented yet, he’s clutching a smart phone to his chest, and he appeared out of nowhere, like an angel. 

Softly, Derek says, “We all have our secrets,” and closes the door.

Starting Now I’m Starting Over - Stiles may or may not have gotten his professorship at Hogwarts because he can turn into a cat.

Stiles is surprised, when he accidentally tumbles into Professor Hale’s legs on a mad dash down the halls, that Derek leans down and scoops him up and…cuddles him into his arms.

So Press Pause and We'll Go – office Christmas party au

Stiles is going to get drunk. Stiles is going to get super fantastic drunk, because he just tossed his Secret Santa gift to his boss under the Christmas tree. Or his boss-adjacent; Derek Hale is a manager of people who are near Stiles, but not exactly Stiles. And he not only hates Stiles's guts, but seems to hate holidays and merriment as well, if the sour look he's giving Isaac and Isaac's jangly elf hat is any indication. It's a shame that he's hot like burning and three hundred million miles out of Stiles's league, because despite the blatant animosity he's been showering Stiles with since Stiles started there six months ago, Stiles still wants him so bad his teeth ache.

3. What is the best fandom you’ve ever been involved in?

This is a hard question because every fandom has something different to love. Harry Potter taught me more about writing than any other fandom because there were some pretty high standards in that fandom. Bandom and Skippy brought me some pretty amazing life-long friends (that’s you, among others). Teen Wolf brought me Stiles and Derek. And Winterhawk is a friendly and small ship that’s so welcoming and enthusiastic.

7. List your NoTPs from each fandom you’ve been in.

Ooh I was hoping no one would ask this one, damn it. Let’s see. I disliked Hermione/Draco, I don’t know why. Maybe because Hermione wasn’t Harry. I disliked anyone with Jon Walker. Whoops. He just bothered me most of the time. Sorry, skoosie. I disliked Scott in Teen Wolf... But he was acceptable when he was with Kira or Allison or Isaac. Not Malia. I loved Malia but that made no sense to me. Also Stiles and Peter, what the fuck. And in the MCU, I dislike Natasha and Bruce. And Clint and Natasha (they’ll always be BFFs to me). And I once saw a Natasha and Peter Parker fic which scarred me for life and I just read the summary. Please don’t hate me, anybody.

10.  Is there a fandom you read fic from but don’t write in?

Harringroooooove! Which is Stranger Things. And so good. 

23. Name a fic you’ve written that you’re especially fond of & explain why you like it.

I am especially fond of Broken But Mending in Clint/Bucky. It has a really strong emotional core to it and exploring Bucky’s slow and careful road to recovery was a really interesting and emotional writing journey to me. Also, the whole time I wrote it, I was aware of the fact that people were not going to anticipate that many feels from a “Clint the sex advice columnist” fic so I got oddly protective of it. Also writing many of specific parts made my chest hurt.

And Penny and Dime in Sterek. I just liked it. And it didn’t get much attention. But it’s a STEREK PUNISHER AU. I was so proud of it, I showed it to my BROTHER.

Ted Lasso fic recs

It’s been a wonderful month or so being part of this fandom - I think this is the first time I have been present at the dawn of a ship, usually I only show up after the party is over. So I made a rec list! mostly Ted/Trent, ‘cos that’s where I’m at. I’ve also labelled them by Trent Crimm’s Daughter (TCD), because I’m fascinated by the myriad names we’ve bestowed upon this unknown child.

Bewitched, Bothered, and Bewildered by mardia / @themardia (E | 22,449) TCD: N/A but has cat (Lola)

The one where Ted may or may not be a witch, and it’s driving Trent mad. The fic that got me into this fandom, which previously I vaguely knew of as some feel-good show about football. Also, of all the fics that portray the press pack covering Richmond, I feel this one gets it most right - that complicated mix of camaraderie and rivalry.

In which Trent inadvertently destroys not just his career but also his marriage over Ted. The funniest fic about divorce you’ll ever read, it’s just so dry and wry and the voices are perfect.

Ted runs into Trent at a grief group. The first in a sweet, ongoing series that charts a developing relationship; also does something different with the origin of Trent’s daughter.

Another classic - not-date that turns out to very enthusiastically be a date, after some confusion (includes mid-coital accidents, a degree of realism I appreciate). E for explicit, but also emotionally thoughtful - this goes for the whole series, still ongoing.

The BDSM fic the fandom did not know it needed until it arrived in all its glory. It’s remarkable how this impeccably melds two version of Trent - smooth, cool, in control vs complete disaster.

The Blood in the Bruise by aebleskiver / @belovedofaforbiddengod (not rated | 5,649) TCD: Edie

Trent decks Rupert for Ted’s sake and faces the consequences. One of the most elegantly written fics in the fandom - tight, fleet writing.

nothing but good ol’ joy by prewars / @prewars (not rated | 13,005) Series: recipe for happiness (in khabarovsk or anyplace) TCD: Evelyn

This fic is mostly 13k words of Ted trying to beat jet lag by spending the day with Trent and his daughter and father and I love it unutterably - just the slow pace of it and the level of tiny domestic detail. Also contains the single best use of Otis Redding’s Cigarettes And Coffee I’ve ever seen in any media.

I’m deeply susceptible to rock band AUs, and I was thrilled when this showed up! Concert pianist Ted replaces Rupert as keyboardist on the British ska punk band Greyhound and they go on tour to open for Trent’s band, Independent. Guitarist!Trent! Delightful!

Blood and Rhetoric by AuntieClimactic / @auntieclimactic (E | 9,917) Series: Blood Is Compulsory TCD: Alice Crimm-Martín

I told myself I’d only rec one fic per author here, but it was impossible to resist adding this vampire!Trent AU. The series expands into detailed world-building (including scholarly articles on vampires), a work spouse/co-parenting dynamic I adore and a fantastic pun about drills (I am very partial to DeWalts).

Even with the Rise of the Vampire AU, I don’t think anybody saw a What We Do In The Shadows crossover coming - let alone one where Ted is an energy vampire. Spectacular wordplay, from Trent discovering that freelancing is “less free than it is lancing” to this gem of Ted & Beard repartee: “Miss Congeniality convivially conspiring with consanguineous, sanguivorous co-stars.”

My favourite Yuletide fic this year! AU where Ted is a teacher/coach at Trent’s daughter’s primary school, where Rebecca is the principal. Trent here is widowed, rather than divorced, and the author handles this with nuance.

I’m still astounded that this stunning double feature exists - a Tedbecca Martian!AU with the most heartwrenching use of Space Oddity and Ted/Trent The Left Hand Of Darkness!AU featuring a Homoerotic Glacier Transverse and Ursula K. LeGuin as John Obi-Wan Gandalf. I love both of these.

Tedbecca bodyswap AU - Rebecca and Ted are accidentally cursed by a witch and swap bodies. An extraordinary Rebecca voice - you get all her prickliness, barriers and insecurities, as well as her private longings. Also contains a fictional TV show called Bonecat, which should really be a real show.

A Change is as Good as a Rest by Siria / @siriaeve (E | 7,250) Roy/Jamie/Keeley. Roy arrives alone on Marbella, only to discover Keeley has sent Jamie after him. Pitch-perfect voices for everyone, but especially Jamie, and also lines like “Jamie appeared in a pair of Speedoes so tiny and so neon that it was like he was channelling the ghost of a German tourist from the '80s.”

A is for Ally by starryeyedknight / @hacash (T | 3,811)

Teamfic in which the himbos attempt to be good allies to Colin by setting up dating profiles for him on every conceivable platform.
