Porthos: You believe me?
Treville: Porthos, you’re the only good person in this place. I'd believe cartoon birds braided your hair this morning

Les Trois Mousquetaires, Chapter 15
"M. de Tréville était le père de ses soldats."
PAPA TREVILLE IS CANON! 🙌🥹🥳
Tumblr media
And in this chapter, he proves it. Upon hearing that Athos has been falsely arrested, he stomps into the Louvre and confronts the King and Richelieu about it, not beating around the bush that the Cardinal takes any chance at blaming and punishing the Musketeers.
Tréville is such a protective papa bear when it comes to his boys, even when faced with the King’s temper tantrums or the Cardinal’s scathing threats. The man not only has balls; he knows exactly where to find them.
Tumblr media
*applause*
He ends up giving both Athos and d'Artagnan alibis for the night before, and the King signs a release paper for Athos. (And Richelieu is suspiciously supportive of this.🤨)
After Tréville has left "triumphantly", Richelieu reveals to the King that the Duke of Buckingham had secretly been in Paris until that very morning. Louis goes 😳😳😳.

Day 21: Mother
Constance and her cadets just give me so many emotions, like...

The protectiveness!

(bonus papa (grand-papa?) Treville)
Tumblr media
*hurt him again and it'll be the last thing you ever do*

Just the glee on her face at the prospect of revenge...

(yes, technically they're d'Artagnan's boots but she doesn't know that yet)

In denial about this scene but the way she comforts Brujon but then she has to leave before she breaks down, just...

If those are not the faces of two proud parents, I don't know what is.
"When can the garrison expect its first child?" Your majesty, have you been to the garrison lately? You think I have the time for another child?
[ID: 10 screencaps from BBC The Musketeers (2014)
1. Constance, in her brown leather dress and gloves, leaning over a battered Clairmont looking angrily at Feron (out of shot). She has one hand supporting Clairmont's head and holds a mug in the other.
2. Constance and Treville looking over Clairmont as he sits at a table. Treville has one hand on Clairmont's face to check his injuries and Constance glances at Treville.
3. Three screencaps spliced together to show the whole shot of Constance standing with an injured Clairmont sitting in front of her. They both glare at Feron (out of shot). Constance hugs Clairmont protectively to her with one hand on his head and the other on his neck.
4. POV of the garrison mess over Treville's shoulder. Constance stands looking pleased with herself while Clairmont and another cadet stand in the background. Clairmont is also smiling.
5. Constance standing in the doorway of the garrison. She looks over her shoulder at Clairmont who is running past her with a smile. Subtitles:
Constance: What have I told you about running?!
Clairmont: Sorry, Madam d'Artagnan.
6. Constance is standing on the bottom stairs in the garrison quarters. There are boots and gloves littered on the stairs and she crouches down to pick them up
7. Brujon in profile and Constance in her blue dress looking at him sadly in the make-shift infirmary in the old pub. Constance has a hand on his shoulder. Subtitles:
Constance: It's you who's got stronger.
8. Brujon and Constance stand by Clairmont's bed in the make-shift infirmary. Constance leans down to kiss Clairmont's forehead. The left side on Clairmont's face is burned. Constance has a hand in his hair.
9. POV over Porthos' shoulder. He is wearing his new armour ready to go back to the front. They are standing in the wreckage of the garrison. Brujon looks at Porthos in confusion. Subtitles:
Brujon: I'm not a Musketeer, General.
10. Again in the wreckage of the garrison. Elodie stands in the left foreground out of focus. Behind her, Constance and d'Artagnan look very proud and pleased with themselves. D'Artagnan stands to the side with his hands behind his back. Constance wears her blue and white dress. She has her head tilted back and she holds a pauldron hidden in cream fabric. Subtitles:
Constance: Aren't you? End ID]

Just a few pics of the boys being casual. It looks like Athos and Porthos were photoshopped into the last one for some reason.
Anyway, I know I haven't posted in a long time. Work leaves me with little free time to write/draw.

Musketeer March 2021
Day 21: Father
A short on how Captain Treville realised that he had become a father to the Musketeers without even realizing it. Enjoy!
Captain Treville had never had children, had never had time for children, but as he stood on the balcony of the garrison watching Aramis and Athos make bets on who would win during Porthos and D'Artagnan's sparring match he realised that he already had four children.
Even if they were supposedly adults.
The four musketeers, while good soldiers and honourable men, had given Treville enough grey hairs over the years to rival those of a proud grandfather.
And they weren't even his biological children.
They were stubborn like him. Honourable and loyal. They fought for those who could not care for themselves. They always tried to do the right thing, even if it meant that they ended up in trouble.
The four musketeers did not really have any family of their own besides each other. But standing there, watching them tease each other and fight and laugh, Treville realised that they were family.
His family.
And his role as their captain had resulted in him sighing in a manner that reminded him very much of his own father when Treville had done something stupid in his youth.

WIP Wednesday
“Athos, what happened?”
“Thomas is dead,” he said again, steadier this time.  “My wife is dead, and that is all on my shoulders.  I am not fit to run the la Fère estate, to run anything.”
“And so, you’ve come to Paris?”
Athos nodded, and took another drink before he spoke. “I presume the king could use another swordsman for his army.”
It was easy to put the pieces together from there. Treville stared incredulously for several moments, watching the young man in front of him, who just a few years ago had held so much promise and enthusiasm, now a shell of that.
“Have you been granted a commission?”
“No Sir,” he answered, “I’ve not enlisted yet. I thought it best to relieve myself of my coin first.”
“I suppose you planned to give them a common name then.  Join the infantry?”
Athos gave a shrug.
Treville leaned across the table, into Athos’ space, suddenly both terrified and furious.
“Are you suicidal?  They’d send you to the border!”
“I’ve lost everyone who mattered to me; the only thing I have left is to do my duty and defend France against her enemies.”

Porthos: Fuck, I don’t feel good... Captain, can I be excused?
Treville: It's 'may'
Aramis, hunched over the table, sleep-deprived: No, it’s July
Athos, hungover: I thought it was Monday

Les Trois Mousquetaires, Chapter 19
This one's called "Plan de Campagne" which means something like "mission plan", and thank God d'Artagnan is smart enough to make one.
It's always a good idea to ask an adult for advice, so d'Artagnan goes to Papa Tréville. He doesn't fill him in on all the details, but it's enough to conspiratorially whisper that it's "about honour and possibly about the Queen's life", and the Captain is in.
He's going to get d'Artagnan 15 days leave from M. des Essarts, and he also advises him not to go on this mission alone and take Athos, Aramis and Porthos with him, because "dans les entreprises de ce genre, il faut être quatre pour arriver un." (for this kind of undertaking, it takes four for one to make it through.)
Mark these words, mes amies...
D'Artagnan picks Aramis up first, then Athos and Porthos.
There's some discussion about how to get to London, but since d'Artagnan is a genius (yes, Athos mentions it two or three times), they go with his plan to ride to Calais together and take a ship to London from there. He's carrying the letter, and if any of them get killed on the way, the survivor(s) are supposed to ride on and go ahead with the mission.
Oh, and they're all bringing their servants, because it's what you do.
Aaaand we're off!

More fic in the immortal Richelieu universe
Because I can't help myself. I said I wasn't going to do anything in New France. Guess what? I'm not in charge. My muses are. This is #33 and counting.
This one is a bit different, a mix of domestic fluff and historical fiction. It's called A Knight's Tale.
