Why can’t you get a divorce with your parabatai? Like it would literally have saved Emma and Julian so much trouble in tda. Or think about Luke and Valentine (even though the bond kinda broke with Luke being a werewolf) they definitely weren’t proud of the decision they made back then. I mean of course it’s an oath until death but don’t marriage and the parabatai Bond both basically say „until death tear us apart“ yet you can just get a divorce to end things with your husband/wife? Most Shadowhunters become Parabatai as a kid or teenager which kinda is a just as huge promise and big responsibility as marriage while people get married as adults and have the right to just say „shoot it didn’t work out. Let’s get a divorce and try again“.

Parabatai curse

Something has been bugging me this whole time - why did it never occur to Emma or Jules to become a Downworlder to save themselves from the parabatai curse?

I get that maybe becoming a vampire would be too much because it comes with immortality, but werewolves are mortal? When Luke was Turned, his parabatai bond with Valentine was broken.

Like I don’t think one of them should have necessarily become a werewolf but why did it never even cross their minds?

so......let’s talk about the parabatai curse...im happy that julian and emma are happy. but, uhm, you see, turning into giants? i just.......this aint it chief. it was honestly anticlimactic, pretty dumb, strange, random, was over so quickly, and overall i was just like......what??? i dont want to say it was completely bad but. uhm. next, maybe cassie could have saved the giants but the fact that it was the blackthorn family’s love was what saved them? okay, kind of sweet, but this isnt a disney channel original movie. what do you mean diana was like “i’ll miss teaching you nerds” and monster julian and emma were like “oh shit, its diana, we cant let her down”??? like yeah we all love diana i feel like that’s not how it works. i needed more. they should have been giants for longer(if they had to be at all) and it should have been resolved through some other way that didnt make me feel like qoaad was a dcom

Si escucharon los rumores gigantescos que habían sobre Jules y Emma y su maldición parabatai, entonces están en lo correcto, Julian y Emma se vuelven gigantes, ¡gigantes les digo!

En un momento cuando Emma está a punto de morir en la batalla porque Zara la apuñaló (maldita), Jules libera su conexión parabatai con Emma y se vuelven gigantes y comienzan a matar a los Jinetes de Mannan, matan a Horace Dearborn y a varios miembros de la Cohorte (Zara no está incluida)

El punto aquí es que tienen que detenerlos pronto o morirán por el fuego celestial que los está consumiendo por dentro y todos los hermanos Blackthorn se reúnen por un plan de Dru, donde ella los lleva al campo de batalla y enfrentan a los gigantes, donde Tavvy se pone frente a todos y les pide que vuelvan con ellos, que los necesitan, Dru les pide que regresen, que no pueden dejarlos. Mark dice que sin ellos no hubiera tenido a su familia de vuelta, Helen le dice a Julian que él lo sacrificó todo por sus hermanos que necesita volver para que ella pueda agradecersele. Incluso Kieran les pide que regresen. Todos necesitan a sus amigos de vuelta.

Y es cuando Tavvy se acerca a Julian y le dice:

«—Jules —dijo, su diminuta voz clara y repiqueteante—. Cárgame. Estoy cansado. Quiero ir a casa».

Y es cuando los dos caen y sus cuerpos vuelven a ser los de ellos. Realmente ellos. Y no, no han muerto.

«Yacían acostados con sus manos entrelazadas y sus ojos cerrados, como ángeles que habían caído del cielo y ahora dormían pacíficamente de nuevo en la tierra».

Let's talk a little bit about this curse and this ideia, shall we?

So, @clockworkopera and I were discussing a little bit about this and we both arent that fond of it. I mean, I've already said this hundreds of times before, but I dont believe Julian and Emma's "morally greyness" or whatever COMES from this curse and I still stand by it (once the parabatai curse might have started when they became parabatai, and that happened when they were both 14, Julian and Emma were pretty much already changed and scarred by the war; Julian was already taking care of the kids and the Institute, he was already bond to his responsability to do ANYTHING for his family, to protect them and keep them together no matter what, I dare say he was already bond to all this since he killed his dad, and Emma was already bond to the promise to find her parents' killer to avenge them, she was already training like crazy and obsessing like crazy over this, so their copy mechanisms were already in charge and were already working towards their morally greyness), and I wont have any problem with this curse if this remains true. Yes, I read Cassie's answer about the curse and I havent found any proof in that that the curse is the source of their "greyness", she might have hinted that maybe the curse might be increasing that, but nothing like saying it is the source of anything, and well, we still dont have too much on canon to work on, we dont know exactly what is this curse and how it works exactly (I hope we got more on that in the next book tyvm).

And well, all this curse thing is kind of already bothering me, cause for example: I see @emmablackthxrn (and others) already mentioning the curse as the source of their ambiguos morality (@emmablackthxrn that's what I'm getting from your posts, but if I'm getting this wrong I'm sorry and you're free to correct me), which I see it is already serving to excuse and justify their acts and potential for darkness, but you know, I cant really blame anyone but Cassie for this cause she has this record of adding a supernatural source to blame on some of her characters' shitty behaviour (sebastian and jordan anyone? and btw, jordan's case is so problematic, but I wont get into this rn) and I'm genuinely terrified she's gonna do the same with this curse (I hope not).

And I mean, do I really have to explain why it's lame and shitty to put the blame on a curse for someone's dubious morality and behaviour* ? Do I? Do I really? Ok, so I will:

There are three main reasons:

It strips off their agency, so therefore

They arent responsible for any of their shitty dids and therefore

They dont need to be hold accountable for anything; they dont have to take any responsability (cause you know, item 2)

And all this opens space for people to excuse, deffend and/or justify some shitty character's behaviour. And there is also the issue where I, personally, think the characters lose a little bit of depth and complexity by blaming supernatural forces for their dubious morality, so yeah, basically, I dont like this idea at all.

So overall, I'm fine with this curse as long as it isnt RESPONSIBLE for any of the morally grey aspects of these characters, and as long as we dont have any concrete canon material yet that proves this ideia, it isnt in fact true. Anyways, thanks for coming to my ted talk and have a good day!

* it is shitty and lame blaming the curse for emma and julian's morality, but if the curse is just increasing and helping what is already there, i might not have a big problem with that

What if what Jem told Emma about the Parabatai curse was a lie? what if, Jem himself didn’t know the real consequences of Parabatai falling in love and honestly believed what he told Emma. What if the Original Clave feared how powerful Parabatai became and made up that lie to dissuade parabatai from falling in love because they became more angelic or something, something they feared. What if Emma and Julian become something amazing that will change the Shadowhunter world? if “Everything changes” in QoaD then why can’t it change for the better?

So the Inquisitor died and I feel a little bit more hopeless for Julian and Emma having lost another safe way out of their parabatai curse. I don't even know what to think on what's next.
