Good Omens' alien parking ticket - translated!
Curious about the “Alien Parking Ticket”? (Or only hearing about it for the first time?) You’ve come to the right place!
A little background first: there were 690 tickets originally released with the Ineffable and Celestial Editions of the Illustrated Good Omens as part of the “Folio of Ephemera” in 2019.
Tumblr media
One more was a prize in a 2021 giveaway, where it was identified as an “alien parking ticket” - https://discworld.com/seven-day-instagram-giveaway/.
Tumblr media
More were available with the campaign for the graphic novel, though they are now sold out, https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/dunmanifestin/good-omens/posts/4080374.

What does it actually look like? This is the front and back of a ticket from an Ineffable Edition, image credit to Reddit user lywinis.
Tumblr media
The front looks a bit fuzzy because it’s done with lenticular printing (the image appears to move as you tilt it, like this:)
Tumblr media
Interestingly, the photo on Kickstarter showed a very slightly different version of the front of the ticket, image credit to Discord user jennythepenny13. It’s still being called an alien parking ticket, and now we know it was issued to Newt by the aliens in the flying saucer.

So what does it say? Spoilers ahead!
Each symbol can be matched one-to-one to the Latin alphabet, or to a digit. After converting, it reads (with a few misspellings):

Tumblr media
Most of the digits don’t have enough information to match them up – only 2 and 4 can be inferred from the source material.
The Kickstarter version changes “rotations of your planet” to “temporal units” for unknown reasons.
So it’s not really a parking ticket – it doesn’t even mention parking. But it is a violation ticket issued to humankind for excessive carbon dioxide emissions, high levels of atmospheric hydrocarbons, harnessing artificial wormholes without the proper permits, and insufficient planetary albedo for long-term climate stability. I guess we’ve got work to do!

A Chicago man bought a car in his ex-girlfriend's name and - after the breakup - abandoned it, illegally parked, in O'hare airport. The car then accumulated over $100,000 on 678 parking tickets, which the city asked the ex-girlfriend to pay.

I just love how even in a busy soho street, we frequently see cars passing by, there is always a single empty parking space for the Bentley. Almost miraculous one might say.
Sorry/not sorry for the gif I used
Little extra:
I also love how Aziraphale parked it on double yellows on the return for Edinburgh, naughty!

Got a parking ticket and an expired safety inspection tag in the same go today.
Which. First of all, screw you officer jerk, for compounding that like you couldn’t have just written a note about the second thing. And why are you going through the off campus neighborhood parking, specifically looking for parking tickets to give out???
But second of all, what do I say?? I’m gonna argue both of these because I simply do not have the ability to pay $90+ dollars. That’s why I walk nearly a mile to park off-campus for free.
But it’s my friend’s car, the tag expired 11-2023, and she’s not in the state right now, so I’m using it for now.
And on the other ticket he wrote what the problem was but never marked it on the box things.
Do we think I have a chance? And how should I write the letter to contest it?

Had a funny conversation with a coworker that, through a convoluted series of adhd/autistic mental gymnastics brought us to the image of Beni from The Mummy using all his religious charms to get out of a parking ticket and I had to make an actual meme!

Yes I used Papyrus font, it felt fitting.

Have I mentioned how the neighborhood has changed?
This is a perfect example of how not to dispute a parking ticket.
It is... however... very authentic and very amusing.
Welcome to New York City.
Where English is not the predominant spoken language any longer.
Sigh...

I found this camcorder at a thrift store for $9. There was a tape inside of it which i unfortunately had to cut and tear out of it, but i know it can be repaired and there's another thrift store near here that had a bunch of these 8mm tapes. That aside though, i was looking through a bunch of papers, among which were some old wedding photos and stuff from the 80s, an old map of Victoria and some other random stuff. Among those papers though, i found this strongly worded parking warning from presumably the 80s or something.
