Thì quá khứ tiếp diễn (past continuous): Công thức, cách dùng và bài tập với đáp án chi tiết

Thì quá khứ tiếp diễn (past continuous) là một thì trong tiếng Anh được sử dụng để diễn tả một hành động đang diễn ra tại một thời điểm cụ thể trong quá khứ và không còn tiếp diễn ở hiện tại. Thì này nhấn mạnh vào quá trình của hành động, biểu thị rằng hành động đó diễn ra trong một khoảng thời gian kéo dài. Dưới đây là một số điểm cơ bản về thì quá khứ tiếp diễn:

1. Công thức:

Khẳng định: S + was/ were + V_ing + O

Phủ định: S + wasn’t/ weren’t + V_ing + O

Nghi vấn: Was/ were + (not) + S + V_ing + O?

2. Cách dùng:

Diễn tả hành động đang diễn ra tại một thời điểm xác định trong quá khứ.

Diễn tả hành động đang diễn ra và bị hành động khác xen vào.

Miêu tả một chuỗi hành động đang diễn ra cùng lúc trong quá khứ.

Diễn tả các hành động đang diễn ra song song trong quá khứ.

Miêu tả hành động đã xảy ra và kéo dài liên tục trong một khoảng thời gian ở quá khứ.

Diễn tả hành động được lặp đi lặp lại (thói quen) trong quá khứ làm phiền đến người khác.

Miêu tả những thông tin/ bối cảnh trong một câu chuyện.

3. Dấu hiệu nhận biết:

Có thể nhận biết thông qua các trạng từ chỉ thời gian như "at", "at this time", "in", "in the past".

Cấu trúc "when" hoặc "while" kết hợp với thì quá khứ tiếp diễn.

4. Quy tắc chia động từ:

Thêm "ing" vào sau động từ.

Đối với một số trường hợp bất quy tắc, có những quy tắc cụ thể.

Quy tắc 1: Động từ thông thường

Động từ kết thúc bằng nguyên âm + e: Bỏ "e" và thêm "ing".

Ví dụ: love - loving, dance - dancing, hope - hoping

Động từ kết thúc bằng phụ âm + e: Giữ nguyên "e" và thêm "ing".

Ví dụ: create - creating, invite - inviting, guide - guiding

Động từ kết thúc bằng 1 phụ âm + 1 nguyên âm (nhấn mạnh nguyên âm): Gấp đôi phụ âm cuối, sau đó thêm "ing".

Ví dụ: run - running, swim - swimming, begin - beginning

Các động từ khác: Thêm "ing" vào sau động từ.

Ví dụ: work - working, watch - watching, play - playing

Quy tắc 2: Động từ bất quy tắc

Một số động từ bất quy tắc không tuân theo quy tắc 1.

Bạn cần ghi nhớ cách chia của từng động từ này.

Ví dụ: go - going, have - having, be - being, eat - eating, sleep - sleeping,...

Lưu ý:

Một số động từ V-ing có thể được sử dụng như danh động từ. Ví dụ: reading, swimming, cooking,...

Một số động từ V-ing không thể được sử dụng như danh động từ. Ví dụ: being, having, going,...

5. Phân biệt với thì quá khứ đơn:

Thì quá khứ tiếp diễn nhấn mạnh vào quá trình của hành động đang diễn ra, trong khi thì quá khứ đơn nhấn mạnh vào hành động xảy ra tại một thời điểm cụ thể trong quá khứ.

Thì quá khứ tiếp diễn thường được sử dụng khi muốn diễn tả sự xen vào của một hành động khác trong quá khứ.

Past Continuous Tense : Past Continuous is used to talk about actions going on at sometime in the past .

గతంలో ( అప్పుడు / ఎప్పుడో ) ఒక పని జరుగుతూ ఉన్న విషయాన్ని Past continuous తెలియజేస్తుంది . or గతంలో ఒక నిర్ణీత సమయానికి జరుగుతూ ఉన్నపనిని Past continuous తెలియజేస్తుంది .

నిన్న ఈ టైం కి అతడు  సినిమా చూస్తూ ఉన్నాడు  . . నిన్న ఈ టైం కి సినిమా చూడడం అనే క్రియను   కొనసాగిస్తూ ఉన్నారు .

అందువల్ల ఆ క్రియను Past Continuous Tense లో తీసుకోవడం జరుగుతుంది .

Note : అతడు అని  భావించినప్పుడు रहा था రావాలి . ఆమె అని భావించినప్పుడు रही थी రావాలి .

वह =  అతడు  / ఆమె

Rule :    वह  +   Verb   +   रहा था   /   रही थी

1. Male: అతడు అదుపుచేస్తున్నాడు = वह नियंत्रित कर रहा था

 Female : ఆమె అదుపుచేస్తుంది = वह नियंत्रित कर रही थी

 2. Male: అతడు అధ్యక్షతవహిస్తున్నాడు  = वह  अध्यक्षता कर रहा था

 Female : ఆమె అధ్యక్షతవహిస్తుంది = वह अध्यक्षता कर रही थी

 3. Male: అతడు అంగీకరిస్తున్నాడు  = वह  स्वीकार कर रहा था

The Past Continuous is used for a variety of reasons. It is used to talk about something that was in progress when it was interrupted by another event: "I was taking a shower when I heard the doorbell." It can also be used to describe what we were doing at a particular point in yine: "At 3pm yesterday, I was washing my hair. I wasn't robbing a bank!" We can describe 2 actions that were in progress at the same time: "The dog was watching the aliens while the woman was watching the sunset."  Uses: 

 Interrupted Action in the Past: Use the Past Continuous to indicate that a longer action in the past was interrupted. The interruption is usually a shorter action in the Simple Past. Remember this can be a real interruption or just an interruption in time. Specific 

Time as an Interruption: In USE 1, described above, the Past Continuous is interrupted by a shorter action in the Simple Past. However, you can also use a specific time as an interruption. 

 Parallel Actions: When you use the Past Continuous with two actions in the same sentence, it expresses the idea that both actions were happening at the same time. The actions are parallel. 

 Atmosphere: In English, we often use a series of parallel actions to describe the atmosphere at a particular time in the past. 

 Repetition and Irritation with "Always": The Past Continuous with words such as "always" or "constantly" expresses the idea that something irritating or shocking often happened in the past. The concept is very similar to the expression "used to" but with negative emotion. Remember to put the words "always" or "constantly" between "be" and "verb+ing." 

 IMPORTANT: When you use the Past Continuous with two actions in the same sentence, it expresses the idea that both actions were happening at the same time. The actions are parallel.
