It’s been a while since we’ve had tapas so when the craving hit recently, we headed down to Ember Yard just south of Oxford Street.
We started off with a grilled octopus leg with squid ink polenta. Perfectly grilled octopus, with just a bit of smokiness from the grill was really good. The squid ink polenta looks a little like black pudding but was also really tasty.
I do love a good courgette flower. Stuffed with a soft cheese and amazingly light and crisp on the outside and drizzled with honey; this was a great version of a dish that I always look to order when I see it on the menu.
Stuffed aubergines with crispy chickpeas and a coconut yoghurt. This was a nice hearty dish and really enjoyable. I thought the coconut yoghurt was a particularly nice touch.
A massive gnocci in an edamame puree. The puree was really refreshing and the gnocci had a lovely chewy denseness to it that was almost mochi like. There was a bit of crust on it as well that provided a bit of a crunch which was really nice as well.
Duck breast with tenderstem broccoli. The duck was meltingly tender and it came with this deliciously moreish gravy - a great dish.
Our last main was a saddle of lamb with almond pesto, sugar snaps and ricotta. While this wasn’t quite as good as the duck in my opinion, it was still pretty damn good. The lamb was fork tender and as always with lamb, pretty full of flavour and rich which balanced well with the freshness of the veg.
Last but by no means least were the patatas bravas. You can’t really have tapas without them and these were good! The potatoes were fluffy and crispy and the sauces creamy and a little tangy :)
All in all, Ember Yard is a pretty great tapas place with really good food and wine. It’s also pretty buzzy with a nice atmosphere; definitely somewhere I’d come back to!
Checked out @lilbabareeba and it was just as good as the OG! We started with mango sangrias and split patatas bravas, shishito peppers, a beef empanada, jamón croquettes, and bacon wrapped dates. Ba ba reeba is one of my fav restaurants in the city so I’m thrilled there’s another location! 🇪🇸 . . . #spanishfood #spain #spanishtapas #tapas #tapasbar #patatasbravas #shishitopeppers #croquetas #jamón #bacon #rivernorth #rivernorthchicago #chicago #chicagofood #chicagorestaurants #chicagoeats #chicagofoodie #bestofchicago #foodie #foodstagram #foodporn #alwayshungry #coolfoodies #forkyeahfoodies #thefoodieinitiative (at Lil’ Ba-Ba-Reeba) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cg_5LufOy39/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

People can get very angry if you don’t like the place they live and love. Okay, they feel protective, I get it; but if somebody attacks the places for which I have a particular fondness – Paris, New York City, Cardiff – I don’t take to Facebook to abuse them.
I genuinely don’t care. I like these places, and that’s all that matters. I might think you are deluded and wrong, but I’m not going to…
