patched up this tooth paste stained sweatshirt my gf no longer wore :3 now the patches cover that stain and looks so cool. I used embroidery floss in different colors to add some more pops of color.
the patches came from patch trades with friends and 'god is trans' is from threeracoonsstudio the patch seller.

Tip for patching knees and elbows:
It's always a pain to get the patch pinned behind the rip and laying flat, but not through both layers of the tube of fabric.
I put a piece of cardboard (from a Ramen box) in the pant leg, then slid the patch under and pinned it down. Cardboard keeps the pins from going through and provides a flat work surface.

Happy mending!

Some of my favorite visible mends I've done thus far!!
The top row has a pair of jeans that wore out along the rear that I whip stitched to the pockets. I wanted to distract from the repair (on the left side of the pocket in the first picture), so I embroidered vines over the back pockets. It was a lot of lazy daisy stitches!! The second image in the top row is of some darns over holes in a comforter. Below the darns you can see where the inside was open; I sewed that up once I was finished. It was already ripped open when I started, which honestly helped the darning!
You may have already seen the middle row if you've seen my post about the overalls I fixed, but these were my favorite parts of that mend: the two holes on each leg, and the largest hole in the left breast pocket. I did a sort of sun and moon motif on the legs, with one using a blanket stitch outline, and the other just running stitched around the outside with more decorative details added on top. The chest pocket I had the most fun doing by experimenting with different types of flowers and stems. The cloth I used for the patch is also apparently an older Ralph Lauren pattern that's a little expensive?? I found it in a thrift shop!
The bottom row is a recent darn I did for my partner's shirt, which had a cigarette burn in the pocket (don't ask). It was difficult, but I darned both sides of the pocket without accidentally sewing the two together!! Then I added a tiny sprout on the front :) Neither of the darns on this post used a speedweve/hand loom, and I'm happy with how they came out!
I really want to do more mends for other people so I can make cute things for my friends, but we'll see what I can get up to......

did a bit of patching (a half-assed patch is better than a pair of pants you can't use)

:: Patchwork & Patching ::
Two years ago, when I began this journey, I was very enthusiastic about slow fashion but had very little sewing skills. The mends I made didn't last long and need a re-working.
Tumblr media
And that is okay -- It is part of the process. I patched, the patch didn't last, and I have learned better ways of patching and will continue to do so.
This past week I have been circling back to old projects and upcylcing them once again. This post is something of a "mending diary" as I re-mend clothing that I first patched years ago, some of my favorite and most worn garments. Let's start with this pair of jeans:
Tumblr media
At one time, when I was still traveling and living out of my backpack, they were the only jeans I owned. The knees of both legs split open and I patched them with whatever I had at the time. And now that I own many more pairs of pants I feel that they have earned the right to be patched again to reflect the new techniques, inspired by sashiko mending that I have since acquired.

Ever get so bored you fix something instead of buying a new one??
If you think this is a waste of time, remember that it takes the average person probably 2 hours to drive to a store, try on pants, check out, and drive home. Or at least it takes me that long, lol.

If you’re going to mend the same trouser knee again, why not set your child up for lots of hilarious puns at the same time?
Reusing some old embroidery from a stained baby top as a patch for a mend. :) There were another five bees, so more will be coming out of hibernation soon…

Doing More for the Project Jeans
I thrifted these in 2021. They were the only ones in the store in my size, well-worn and well-loved. The knees blew out immediately (and I patched them with floral jersey from much-hated underwear). I snagged the right leg on a trailer (and used my new 1978 machine to put it back together in a star). I cut the shredded hems and added bias binding, I used the same stuff to cover the shredding pocket edges, I embroidered "reduce reuse recycle" on the side, I sewed a geometric web on each thigh that doesn't show up as well as I wish it did, and I fixed worn parts over and over again.
Last time I wore them, I realized I could see skin by the knee again. So today, the whole worn thigh fabric got a patch underneath it that will show through as the top fabric wears/tears. I'll see what I do to keep the top fabric in place (or not, I kinda hate how light it's gotten and the patch is more interesting). The patch is from a shirt I tie-dyed with my sister years ago, which I wore to an absolute frazzle and have since used almost exclusively as my jersey patch material. Check it out!

Finally finished!
And now it's time to play 'Find the Patches!' Good luck, it took me like 3 minutes to find them all, and I theoretically know where they are since I patched them all.
