Wolfstar Sucked at Hiding their Relationship.

At first they agreed to keep it a secret.

Nobody else in the group had come out yet and being gay was still an up in the air thing.

Sirius' cousins didn't make this process any easier.

Nobody noticed anything at first.

Sure, they held hands sometimes under their desk,

And sat with their bodies completely touching shoulder to shoes.

But they were Padfoot and Moony, they've always been close.

It wasn't until Sirius showed up to breakfast with messy eyeliner that someone noticed something was off.

Sirius never messed up his eyeliner.

So he casually explained he let Remus do it for him.

Nothing else was said until a few days later when James realised Remus was wearing rings.

But not just any, rings made of white-gold.

And he casually explained that they were Sirius'.

It wasn't until their potions lesson later that week that things started to make a little more sense than just odd, out-of-place accessories.

Remus kept his head down the whole class, Sirius gently stroking his hair while he stared up at the board and wrote the lecture in Remus' notebook.

They only excused it with Remus was tired that day.

Which was the same excuse they used for Sirius when they walked in to find him fast asleep in Remus' lap while he read a book, also playing with Sirius' hair.

Then came the nicknames.

Sirius exclusively referred to Remus the following week with cheesy pet names.

"Thank you, my moon."

"Of course, darling."

"Everything alright, love?"

It started to catch the attention of more than just the Marauders.

Clothes started swapping between them like insults used to.

Sirius would come downstairs in Remus' jumper.

Remus would walk around Hogsmeade is Sirius' leather jacket.

Sirius showed up in Remus' scarf one night, the ends hanging down nearly to his knees.

Remus accidentally kissed Sirius in front of the others and then had to cover by kissing every one of their friends afterwords.

This happened on more than one occasion.

The day they found the pair cuddled beside each other while they slept was the day James had had enough.

Finally they confessed, expecting a big uproar.

But everyone already knew.

Obviously.

So the pair stopped trying to hide it, and to everyone else's surprise, the affection only increased.

Evander Berry Wall was a famous sociality and fashionista in the late 19th and early 20th century, dubbed The King of the Dudes. Via wikipedia:

"Wall was a clotheshorse. He generally wore a "very extraordinary costume" such as the one pictured on the right: "a dust coat of a reddish havana brown, a suit made of a large grey shepherd plaid check; extremely wide trousers tapered at the ankle, and turned up several inches to display white spats and highly varnished shoes; a 'startling' striped shirt in red and sky blue, with very high false collar of a pattern different from the shirts, a striped vest and a widely spread stock-cravat." He was popularly credited with the possession of over 500 trousers and 5,000 neckties." ...

Wall was first proclaimed "King of the Dudes" at the resort town of Long Branch, New Jersey in the summer of 1883.

Wall was again proclaimed "King of the Dudes" in 1888 by the New York American newspaper. A journalist named Blakely Hall judged that Wall had won the "Battle of the Dudes" against Robert "Bob" Hilliard, another sartorial dude when, during the March Blizzard of 1888, he strode into a bar clad in gleaming boots of patent leather that went to his hips. Nevertheless, some historians still consider it was Hilliard who won that dude battle.

Wall won another fashion contest in August 1888, in Saratoga Springs, New York. To win a bet against John "Bet a Million" Gates, Wall changed clothes 40 times between breakfast and dinner. He appeared on the race track "in one flashy ensemble after the other until, exhausted but victorious he at last entered the ballroom of the United States Hotel in faultless evening attire."

Ever the fashion-leader, Wall is credited for having been the first person in the United States to wear a dinner jacket (tuxedo) to a ball. The white ensemble had been sent to him by the London Savile Row tailor Henry Poole & Co "to be worn for a quiet dinner at home or at an evening's entertainment at a summer resort." This was a time when tailcoat was still the rule, and Wall was immediately ordered off the floor.

Wall's financial life was not as successful as his fashion life. An ill-conceived stock-broking career and additional failures as a stable owner ended in an 1899 bankruptcy. Wall finally declared that "New York had become fit only for businessmen" and left for Paris in 1912. ... They lived in a suite in the Hotel Meurice, with a consecutive string of chow dogs named Chi-Chi or Toi-Toi. This was located conveniently near the bespoke shirtmaker Charvet, where Wall had his signature "spread eagle" collar shirts and cravats custom-made for himself and his dog. Wall always dined at the Ritz with his dog, whose collars and ties were made by Charvet in the same style and fabric as his master's.

Made some shoes for a cosplay project that’s 2 (almost 3!) months overdue 🥲

These are my first pair of shoes I’ve made by hand since discovering/ picking up the skill way back in May 💜💜💜

They’re pretty comfortable for the most part and mostly came out the way I wanted. The only thing I wish I’d done better were the outsoles, but I sculpted those by hand with EVA foam, a dremel, crafting knife and sandpaper so 🤷🏾‍♀️

Sock liner is 1mm Form-Lite EVA foam + Cork sheeting wrapped in Polyester Satin

Embellishments are 4mm EVA foam wrapped in the jersey and Gold beading glued to 2mm Hard-Lite EVA foam and cut to shape

Marina graced the April 2019 cover of PAPER Magazine. The superstar looked gracious modeling the most colorful Spring/Summer 2019 fashion while talking about her then-newest album “Love + Fear”.

We’re starting off strong with a total look from the Marc Jacobs Spring/Summer 2019 collections (one of my faaaaves!). This ensemble included an orange & pink ostrich feather-embroidered cropped top with the matching voluminious feather print silk trousers.

Our girl crowned the first look with these gold & silver-tone linked chain earrings from French jeweler Annelise Michelson.

Next, an all-red ensemble is presented to us which hails from none other than the maison of Valentino. This Pre-Fall 2019 romantic number is a pleated pussy-bow cape-effect red silk-georgette mini dress with concealed mother-of-pearl buttons.

Marina's jewelry included the Jil silver loop earrings by Luz Ortiz, a ring by Annika Inez and a pinky ring by Jennifer Fisher!

The insane heels are courtesy of young emerging designer Ganor Dominic. These are the Apollo red mirror pumps.

Crafted by artisans in Italy within a factory owned by a family who have been creating shoes for two generations since 1968 – Ganor Dominic bespoke designs are all handmade with locally sourced materials and components.

One of the most interesting looks have to be this white circle-shaped wrap front jacket and suede leather pants which were seen on Balmain's Egyptian-themed Spring/Summer 2019 presentation!

She completed the look with this Lady Grey Jewelry warped silver metal earring...

...and this silver metal corset belt from the aforementioned Balmain collection.

Iconic Italian label Versace set a colorful statement with their Spring/Summer 2019 collection which set free this gooorgeous neon-green jersey midi dress featuring a feminine draped neckline, long sleeves and a risqué slit!

M rocks two different sets of earrings for this look. The first ones are the Hannah Jewett Plus One earrings featuring totemic figurations suspended on gold hoops with little lucite discs.

Her other ones are Givenchy Pre-Fall 2019 mismatched mixed media earrings featuring pearls, chains, rhinestones and coins!

Her neon-green patent leather block heel sandals with crystal-embellished buckle are from the same Versace collection as above.

Our final look comes from Louis Vuitton's Spring/Summer 2019 runway and is this fantasic silver sequined laser-cut structured mini dress with strong shoulders and mock neck!

Lastly, she rocked a pair of Déchainée Mono broken silver chain link earrings by Annelise Michelson.

Portos (Aramis)

This is a tale of how a fragrance can lead you toward one conclusion, only to surprise you with what's really in its heart. When the ending turns out to be a decoy, the lesson in the bottle is this: if you think you've got a perfume sussed out, step back. Give it a chance to tell the rest of the story. You won't regret it.

If you've ever stood in a pine forest while the trees release their pollen, you know the meaning of the word spectacular. Here in South Jersey, late May is the time to witness this remarkable phenomenon. All over the Pine Barrens, trees respond to the slightest breeze by opening their anthers and releasing vast plumes of neon yellow dust into the wind. The result (drifts of sticky pollen on every conceivable surface for miles) can be vexatious, particularly for the allergy-prone. But the event itself -- equivalent to a fireworks show held in broad daylight -- is magical, and worth seeing at least once in your life.

A recent sampling of Portos (a vintage fragrance now discontinued from Estee Lauder's Aramis line) recreated this marvelous scene exactly for me. All the elements were present: fresh evergreen needles, cedar twigs, saltwater breezes, the sharp, oily scent of fresh raw pollen, the penetrating warmth of the midday sun....

But there was something else here-- an elusive manmade element distinctly out of place in the deep woods. Oleoresinous, faintly industrial, it gave off the high gloss of Knize Ten's plastic-patent-leather note, except cast in a somber rather than cheerful light. But what was it?

Being unable to put my finger on it bothered me. I sprayed, sniffed, pondered, frowned. And then I turned to my most trusted source for second opinions and offered him my Portos-laden arm.

My husband was as stumped as I was. Like me, he sniffed, thought about it, sniffed again, and sighed in frustration. He agreed that the basic jist of Portos was 'evergreen forest'. But when I asked him to guess, just guess, at the identity of the mystery note, he said, "WD-40?"

Obviously that couldn't be it. But if not, then what?

I waited, sprayed again, smelled again, frowned again, closed my eyes....

With the distractions of the surrounding room temporarily blotted out, an image both unexpected and familiar swam into focus. I saw a studio strewn with all the colorful rubble of an artist's life. Coffee cans full of brushes, dented tubes of oil paint scattered across a wooden worktable, rags imbued with eye-popping smears of pigment, and glass jars of--

"I've got it," I told my husband.

"What?"

"Linseed oil and turpentine."

Distilled from the resins of various evergreen trees (including pine, fir, and the terebinth tree from which its name is derived), artists' turpentine is far superior to the mineral spirits which comprise lowly household paint thinner. It evaporates rapidly when combined with oil-based pigments, earning it the loyal affection of every painter whose least favorite hobby is to watch paint dry.

However, turpentine's volatility has a downside: its vapors are toxic in too many ways to name. A shame, because they smell so good-- bright, sharp, camphoraceous, with medicinal overtones that hint (not inaccurately) of old-fashioned patent curatives sold out of a peddler's suitcase.

Cold-pressed from mature flax seeds, linseed oil is a natural polymer which hardens to a transparent varnish upon exposure to air. Its odor is rich, vegetal, and musty-- a saturating stink that only intensifies with oxidation. Many artists find it irresistable, but others consider it stomach-turning. The good news is that however objectionable it smells in concentration, linseed oil produces a relatively pleasant, ambery odor when reduced to a trace amount.

Nature seems to have designed these two substances to be married for more than one purpose. True, together they make a painting-- but they also make a perfume, albeit a highly unconventional one. In combination, linseed tones down turpentine's sharpness, and turpentine lightens linseed's two-ton weight. Together they produce a scent with implicit function and meaning and promise, a stepping-stone to something beautiful.

Pine, cedar, fir, and rosemary clearly comprise the turpentine on Portos' palette. What is its linseed oil? Labdanum resin (a primary constituent of perfumery "amber") in its pure form has been elsewhere been likened to linseed putty; while amber bases can have extremely varied characters (from vanillic to fruity to woody to incense-like), I speculate that the vegetal, oily amber used here is wearing a linseed disguise. As for pigment, Portos' primary ground is moss green, upon which a rainbow-spectrum of pelargonium bloom surfaces and explodes like bright hot fireworks.

But what's the painting about? Whom does it portray? The only way to see the picture clearly was to wear Portos for a day.

It was a typical South Jersey summer morning -- humid, already hot, with the pleasant scent of honeysuckle and mulberries in the air. After my bath, I sprayed each wrist with Portos and pressed it to the inside of the opposite elbow, then sprayed the nape of my neck and used my fingertips to smooth it forward to my pulse points.

Instantly, the art-studio hologram appeared all around me, glowing with late-Rembrandt sepia, umber, and burnt-sienna tones. Ghosting behind the canvas-laden easels, that linseed-amber accord smelled sweeter and less saturnine to me today, reminding me of the alluring scent of a brand new box of Caran d'Ache oil pastels. In all, the aroma of that imaginary room delivered an instant invitation to dream, to draw, to create.

Over time, as Portos calmed, I noticed a pronounced woody-incense quality developing within its evergreen heart. I thought of the parish churches of my childhood: the smell of frankincense and good pine-oil soap, the wooden pews lovingly buffed to a high shine, the soft glow of candlelight on polished glass and brass. As an artist myself, I did not find the leap from studio to place of worship at all illogical. Art being a religion of sorts, the artist's atelier is the center of intense devotional activity. Within that sacred space, every artist -- or writer, or inventor, or perfumer -- is a high priest or priestess of creativity, offering up sacred artworks to an array of very personal deities.

At length came the drydown, a soft cedary amber. All day I had felt subtly bolstered by Portos, upheld and strengthened. Now it let me down ever so gently, depositing me a million miles from where I began, completely invigorated and full of ideas.

So who is Portos? He is an artist -- naturally -- with pigment under his fingernails and a bottle of cognac next to the brushes. Enigmatic and reserved, he prefers solitude to company and silence to empty talk. His inner turbulence is tempered by a cool and taciturn nature; he would rather say nothing at all than commit his thoughts to posterity. He's accused of being many things: a fauve, a sphinx, a son-of-a-bitch. Lover after lover has admitted defeat. He's married to his work, they say-- and it's true; he reserves the best of himself for the canvas and paint. He lives in absolute earnest, without apology or shame.

He may be a difficult bastard. But he is himself. And it's good.
