My animation professors newest assignment for us was to give us a PNG of a toilet she drew and have us create a background for that toilet, as well as animate fire, goo, smoke, and sparkles coming out of it. We had the option to redraw her toilet, so I decided to do funny scenes with them instead

Medieval Astronomy from Melk Abbey Image Credit: Paul Beck (Univ. Vienna), Georg Zotti (Vienna Inst. Arch. Science) Copyright: Library of Melk Abbey, Frag. 229
Explanation: Discovered by accident, this manuscript page provides graphical insight to astronomy in medieval times, before the Renaissance and the influence of Nicolaus Copernicus, Tycho de Brahe, Johannes Kepler, and Galileo. The intriguing page is from lecture notes on astronomy compiled by the monk Magister Wolfgang de Styria before the year 1490. The top panels clearly illustrate the necessary geometry for a lunar (left) and solar eclipse in the Earth-centered Ptolemaic system. At lower left is a diagram of the Ptolemaic view of the Solar System with text at the upper right to explain the movement of the planets according to Ptolemy's geocentric model. At the lower right is a chart to calculate the date of Easter Sunday in the Julian calendar. The illustrated manuscript page was found at historic Melk Abbey in Austria.

twenty questions for fic writers
thank you @acorrespondence for tagging me in this! i love shiteing on about writing :)
How many works do you have on ao3?
33, which shocks me because for some reason in my head the number's permanently at, like, 8.
What's your total ao3 word count?
195,093
What fandoms do you write for?
I mean currently it's beatles rpf 🌝. But also Check Please (specifically jackparse, I have absolutely no interest in anything else), Wolf 359, The Social Network, Community (although none of these are an ao3 due to I wrote them when I was 15), and some random one hit wonders.
What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
live through this, and you won't look back - Jack/Kent, Check Please
if being afraid is a crime, we hang side by side - Kepler/Jacobi, Wolf 359
baby, it's all relative - John/Paul, Beatles
Time May Change Me - Mark/Eduardo, The Social Network
Five Men Roy Ruined For Jen - Jen/Roy, The IT Crowd
Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
Yes, always, unless I forget!! I don't know why I wouldn't like, if people are reading I am genuinely excited and grateful for that. Why wouldn't I tell them? (I'm very bad at thinking of things to say which aren't just "I'm glad you enjoyed it", but I try).
What is a fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
I think lately you've been feeling so good i forget my future (in which jack and kent go to prom) is pretty grim not even because the ending itself is the worst but also it foreshadows so much worse to come. Most of my jackparse fic is them as teenagers because I love that "the worst is yet to come" doom that constantly hangs over them in those years. Also one and one and one is three (in which john/paul/yoko have an emotionally fraught threesome). I hurt my own feelings writing that one lol.
What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Not one of the recent ones, I can tell you that! Although it depends if you mean fluffy or happy by my own metric because EYE think the best happy endings are the ones you have to work through some angst to get. So if you're looking for fluffy, probably Five Men Roy Ruined for Jen; if you're looking for a journey that ends in happiness, then I'd say wouldn't it be? nice makes me feel euphoric at the end.
Do you get hate on fics?
I've gotten a couple bitchy comments but generally no.
Do you write smut?
Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?
I've only written one and it's where Jean-Ralphio from Parks and Rec becomes the Eleventh Doctor's companion in Doctor Who. It's cute, I still like it.
Have you ever had a fic stolen?
God, I hope not. Although, I did have someone once finish a fic I abandoned on ff.net without really asking me first, which I thought was both flattering and hilarious of them. So true, babe. Write the finished fic you wish to see in the world!
Have you ever had a fic translated?
I think someone translated one of my old Gossip Girl fics on ff.net, also. I can't remember what language it was though.
Have you ever co-written a fic before?
No, but I'm not opposed to it.
What's your all-time favorite ship?
All my fave ships are pretty much variations on the same dynamic with a few exceptions. It's comical how consistant I am about this without even trying.
What's a wip you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?
Tbh I never truly rule anything out. There's a post-canon Justified fic that has lived in my head for years, that I mostly haven't written because it's a lot of work, and I don't really care about sharing it that much it's mostly just for me. There's a Dawson's Creek Pacey genderswap fic I dream of writing, but likely will never bother. There's a beatles fic where Paul can talk to instruments that I actually wrote 20k for but it's so dogshit I can't bear to try to fix it so it's going to just sit on my computer forever probably.
What are your writing strengths?
I hate this question, I'm so bad at identifying these things. Vibes? I think I'm good at dialogue but that's mostly because that's what I start with, so it's like the bones of most of my fics. I've been told I'm good at like being thoughtful to all the different characters in fic even if it's not about them or their POV, which is always a nice thing to hear.
What are your writing weaknesses?
Physical descriptions probably. I don't care about them very much and therefore I don't put as much effort into them as I probably should. Also, I write chronologically so most of my endings are slightly lazier than the rest of the fic.
Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
I don't know. I've never tried it. As a bilingual person, seeing people who are not bilingual completely miss the nuances of that is actually really irritating. Especially as someone who speaks Portuguese but grew up in an English speaking country, reading TSN fic was so specifically annoying. And don't even get me started on the concept of "untranslateable" words and "saudade".
It can be done well, but often isn't. Also, if you give me a bunch of text in a language I don't know, my brain is just gonna skip over it, so it's often redundant when it's more than, like, a sentence.
First fandom you wrote for?
First fic I published was for Gossip Girl, but when I was like 11 I wrote what was essentially a Life With Derek canon-divergence fic in a copybook that I showed to a teacher in my school.
Favorite fic you've written?
All of them. But some that have not yet been mentioned on this post:
kissing just for practice - Jack/Kent (idk, I set out to do something specific with this fic and I really felt I did)
i want every other freckle - si-5 ot3 kind of (this fic means so much to me)
tomorrow i'll miss you - mclennon before sunset au (before sunset is one of my favourite movies and i worked really hard on this one)
i thought i knew one, what did i know? - paul's girlfriend catches john and paul together (this one makes me crazy and i'm the one who wrote it lol)

Intro + Masterlist
Alrighty folks, it's time that I finally put all my fics in one spot, but that will be under the cut.
Hello everyone! Feel free to call me Bow (creative, I know) and this is largely a tickle blog. But also I'm physically incapable of not talking about my obsessions so there's also gonna be a lot of bullshit here. So if none of that is for you, kindly move along.
Some fun facts about me are:
My pronouns are she/they/it, I'm aroace, I love music, podcasts, books, and the funky little queers on my tv screen, my current obsessions are Spies are Forever (Owen Carvour my beloved) and Hatchetverse (Everyone my beloved), and I'm in a Creative Writing program in university!
My ask box is open. I accept silly quips and tortured screaming in equal measure. I'm not gonna kick out any minors but keep in mind that I am over 18 and will write whatever I want to (I will attempt to tag anything nsfw but there probably won't be much). You can find my main blog and ao3 @hellyeahheistbooks if you are so inclined.
Phew. Now that that's over, let's get onto the masterlist :D

Patient safety is more important than the gender feelz of the medical team responsible for their care.
By Anna Slatz April 11, 2024
A trans-identified male nurse in Austria has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for the brutal murder of his elderly patient. The assailant, a 24 year-old from Slovakia, repeatedly stabbed his elderly patient last year after a dispute broke out over his gender identity.
The murder occurred on the evening of October 5 at the victim’s home in Geretsberg where the nurse was providing on-call care. Due to Austria’s strict privacy laws, neither the identity of the victim nor assailant is known, but Reduxx had learned that the nurse had been working under the masculine name “Paul” and was active in LGBT groups in Vienna. Though he is legally a male, “Paul” was referred to as a “woman” in court by witnesses and the defense.
While the motive for the crime was initially unclear, it was later revealed that the nurse attacked the 82-year-old paralyzed pensioner after the topic of the nurse’s gender identity was brought up. He went to the kitchen and retrieved multiple knives, stabbing the man eleven times in the upper body, abdomen, face and head. Following the attack, “Paul” called the victim’s stepdaughter, who immediately alerted the police.
Emergency responders initially found the man alive and attempted to stabilize him, but the victim died of his injuries at the scene.
The nurse was immediately arrested, but was taken to the psychiatric unit at the Kepler University Hospital at Neuromed after demonstrating extreme aggression and “massive psychological abnormalities.”
Staff initially believed he was under the influence of drugs due to his behavior, but a blood test only found alcohol in his system. While he claimed to have effectively “blacked out” during the killing, it was ultimately determined that “Paul” had no serious mental illness which would have impacted his legal accountability for his actions.
After being interrogated by police, the nurse immediately admitted to the killing, and claimed the attack had been the result of the victim “teasing” him due to his gender identity and making transphobic remarks. Later examination also revealed that “Paul” had separated from his boyfriend earlier that day, something that was described as a “trigger” for his impulsive behavior.
According to Puls24, psychiatric expert Adelheid Kastner testified that “Paul” had an extremely high risk of recidivism, and admission to a forensic-psychiatric center was recommended. After a short jury trial with a unanimous verdict, “Paul” was sentenced to 20 years in prison on March 26.
While he is currently being held at a men’s prison, “Paul” may seek eventual transfer to a women’s facility if he is able to change his legal documents and receive a recommendation from a psychologist.
Austria currently assesses transgender inmates on a “case-by-case” basis, though the Government has acknowledged that sex-segregated facilities must exist.

A Mind in Motion: The Evolution of Paul Dirac’s Thought and Legacy
Paul Dirac's life and work embody the intricate dance between intellectual curiosity, philosophical evolution, and the relentless pursuit of scientific knowledge. His strict upbringing, characterized by a unique linguistic regime imposed by his father, played a pivotal role in shaping his intellectual trajectory. This environment, where French was spoken with his father and English with his mother, likely honed Dirac's ability to navigate complex systems and think abstractly. Initially inclined towards engineering, a path influenced by his family's vocational leanings, his innate mathematical aptitude eventually led him to the realm of theoretical physics.
The interplay between environmental influences and innate talent in the development of exceptional minds is a fascinating aspect of Dirac's story. The structured and disciplined environment may have fostered Dirac's meticulous approach to problem-solving, a trait that would later serve him well in the precise world of theoretical physics. His natural affinity for mathematics, evident from an early age, underscores the role of inherent ability in shaping one's academic and professional pursuits. Investigating similarly raised individuals could provide valuable insights into the cultivation of genius, elucidating whether specific aspects of their upbringing, such as bilingualism and strict discipline, were instrumental in their success.
Dirac's transformative shift from an anti-religious, anti-philosophical stance to embracing mathematical beauty as a guiding principle in physics is a defining aspect of his legacy. This philosophical evolution led to the creation of the Dirac equation, a seminal work that seamlessly integrated quantum theory with special relativity. The beauty and elegance of this equation not only reflected Dirac's newfound appreciation for aesthetic considerations in physics but also underscored the efficacy of such an approach in driving scientific breakthroughs. Historical precedents, such as Johannes Kepler's laws of planetary motion, derived from a desire to create a harmonious, beautiful system, preceded empirical validation, illustrating the power of aesthetic considerations in anticipating scientific truths.
The pursuit of string theory, driven by its mathematical elegance despite lacking direct empirical evidence, further solidifies Dirac's enduring influence on the philosophical underpinnings of modern physics. This interplay between beauty and truth in physics suggests that aesthetic considerations can serve as a heuristic for theory development, particularly in areas where empirical data is scarce or inconclusive. Moreover, the significant role of geometric thinking in Dirac's contributions, particularly in the development of the Dirac equation, underscores the importance of geometry in driving innovation in physics, from Euclid's influence on Isaac Newton's understanding of space to Albert Einstein's reliance on Riemannian geometry for general relativity.
The disparity between Dirac's enigmatic public persona and his nuanced personal life serves as a poignant reminder of the challenges inherent in science communication. The public's perception of scientists is often reduced to caricatures or stereotypes, neglecting the rich tapestry of their personal experiences and motivations. Presenting scientists in a more holistic light could enhance public engagement with science, fostering empathy and understanding for the human endeavor behind scientific discoveries. Exploring Dirac's personal struggles, including his complicated family relationships and his later-life introspections, humanizes the figure of Dirac, offering a compelling narrative for science outreach and education initiatives.
Dirac's later years, marked by introspection and a critical reevaluation of his work, including Quantum Field Theory, exemplify the self-reflexive nature of scientific advancement. Despite his personal reservations, his legacy remains resolute, with ongoing research drawing inspiration from his pioneering work. The continued pursuit of theories guided by the principle of mathematical beauty stands as a testament to Dirac's profound and lasting influence on the trajectory of modern physics. His work has also influenced fields beyond physics, such as mathematics and philosophy, underscoring the far-reaching implications of his ideas.

PLEASE. Also i specialise in manga so i had to check my shelves andkenfkdn
My best recs for detective ficrion are the authors Elizabeth George, Lars Kepler (my beloved!) and naturally anyone from the golden age (Agatha Christie, and so on) and Philip Pullman's "Sally Lockhart" series is brill.
Good one i read recently was "The Cleaner" by Paul Cleave. Haven't finished it but it's good so far.
Not detective fiction, but recently i've been reading books by Ira Levin. If you like conspiracy stories, he's a specialist. "Rosemary's Baby" and "The Stepford Wives" are incredible, and if you're into dystopias à la "The Giver" (Lois Lowry) then "This Perfect Day" will delight you.
Most heart-wretching and most human story i have ever read is a novella called "Roadside Picnic" by the legendary Strugatski brothers. It's been 7 years and i have yet to read anything that destroyed me as much as that did. It's even worse when you read up on how difficult it was to publish.
Omgggg Thank you so so much! You have no idea how needed this was. Im ashamed to say I havent read almost any books in the last few years (that are not academia related) so sadly almost any name thats not from the golden era are new to me, as I mostly used my free time to play videogames and read manga. All of the ones you mentioned speak to me so Ill try to be checking them as soon as I have the time and mindset. I did have the delight of reading Rosemary’s Baby tho! You are right, it was great! Ive heard a LOT about “Roadside Picnic” and it has been on my “to read” list for a long ass time, so I think that Ill actually start with it as soon as Im done with the one mentioned on the previous ask. Btw youre always welcome to recommend more, in fact Ill tag it as “ref” so I can easily have a better organized list of stuff Ill want to read! Also you mentioned you also specialize in manga 👀 may I also hear about that??

Cincinnati Reds-Minnesota Twins Series Preview
9.13.24-Julian Aguiar RHP (1-0) 5.06 ERA Vs. Bailey Ober RHP (12-6) 3.77 ERA
9.14.24-Nick Martinez RHP (8-6) 3.46 ERA Vs. Simeon Woods Richardson RHP (5-4) 3.96 ERA
9.15.24-Rhett Lowder RHP (1-1) 0.59 ERA Vs. David Festa RHP (2-6) 5.08 ERA
The Reds At A Glance- The Reds have been under .500 for most of the season. They have had two bad months in May and August that have taken them out of the playoff race. The Reds close out a ten-game road trip in Minneapolis this weekend. Cincinnati lost two out of three to the Mets then took a makeup game against the Braves on Monday before losing two out of three to the Cardinals this week. Elly De La Cruz is having a solid year with twenty-three homers and sixty-five RBI. He has also stolen sixty-four bases. Spencer Steer is finding a home with the Reds. He has hit nineteen homers and knocked in eighty-six. Christian Encarnacion-Strand has been out with a wrist injury and has recently been cleared for baseball activities. Both Steer and Encarnacion-Strand were in the Tyler Mahle trade. The Reds starting rotation has a 4.16 ERA, which is eighteenth in baseball. Hunter Greene has been out with an elbow injury and is their best starter. Rhett Lowder has been impresive with an 0.59 ERA in three starts. Their bullpen owns a 3.90 ERA, which is in fifteenth in the big leagues. Alexis Diaz has locked down twenty-seven saves, but has a 4.30 ERA. Buck Farmer and Tony Santillan have been good right-handed options for David Bell.
The Twins At A Glance- The Twins got back on track with a pair of wins over the Angels this week. They had Thursday off before closing out the homestand against the Reds. Byron Buxton was activated off the injured list and Austin Martin was sent back to St. Paul. DaShawn Keirsey is just a better pinch-runner and defensive replacement option right now. Kody Funderburk threw a scoreless inning in a rehab outing with the Saints on Tuesday. Carlos Correa and Max Kepler have been taking batting practice off some of the Cedar Rapids Kernels pitchers at Target Field. Kyle Farmer is hitting .325 with five homers in his last 45 plate appearances. Matt Wallner has hit ten homers and knocked in twenty-six since the All-Star Break. Pablo Lopez has a 1.93 ERA in 65 1/3 innings since the break. Griffin Jax has struck out twenty-six in 22 1/3 inning since the break. Cole Sands has given up just four runs in his last twenty-one innings.
What To Watch For- Each team has won seventeen games in the all-time series between the Twins and Reds. The Twins took two out of three in Cincinnati last year. The two teams split four games in a home-and-home series in 2021. Bailey Ober has a 5.79 ERA in 9 1/3 innings against the Reds. Nick Martinez has a 6.75 ERA in five games against the Twins. All four other scheduled starters have not faced their opponent. Emilio Pagan has a 3.67 ERA over 34 1/3 innings for the Reds this year. He has a 2.65 ERA over 74 2/3 innings of work at Target Field. This should be a fun series for Twins fans, who get to see some young talent. Elly De La Cruz and Jonathan India are one of the best up the middle duos in the league. Plus, we get to see Spencer Steer at Target Field.

This guy is a nurse?!
By Genevieve Gluck. October 10, 2023
An unidentified man who identifies as a “woman” has admitted to the brutal murder of an elderly man in the Braunau district of Austria. The assailant, a 24 year-old nurse from Slovakia, repeatedly stabbed his 82 year-old patient last week, resulting in the elderly man’s death from internal bleeding.
The murder occurred on the evening of October 5 at the victim’s home, where the nurse was providing on-call care. Due to Austria’s strict privacy laws, the identity of the victim is not known, but it has been revealed that the nurse had been working under the masculine name “Paul” and was active in LGBT groups in Vienna.
While the motive for the crime was initially unclear, it was later revealed that the nurse attacked the bedridden pensioner after the topic of the nurse’s gender identity was brought up. He went to the kitchen and retrieved multiple knives, stabbing the man five times in the chest and an unknown amount of times in the man’s head. Following the attack, “Paul” called the victim’s stepdaughter, who immediately alerted the police.
Emergency responders initially found the man alive and attempted to stabilize him, but the victim died of his injuries at the crime scene.
The nurse was immediately arrested, but was taken to the psychiatric unit at the Kepler University Hospital at Neuromed after demonstrating extreme aggression and “massive psychological abnormalities.” Staff initially believed he was under the influence of drugs due to his behavior, but a blood test only found alcohol in his system.
On Friday afternoon, police interrogated the nurse on what took place prior to the murder. He immediately admitted to the killing, and claimed the attack had been the result of the victim “teasing” him due to his gender identity.
Alois Ebner, a spokesperson for the public prosecutor’s office, has speculated that the perpetrator has some mental health issues, and a borderline personality disorder is suspected.
“Paul” has since been transferred from the psychiatric ward to regular detention where he is awaiting a hearing for the murder.
