It’s objectively pretty funny of Bring Me the Horizon to respond to all the “they’re not even heavy metal anymore 😤” comments by dropping Post Human: Survival Horror with an opening track like Dear Diary, which goes heavy as fuck, and then immediately going back to their pop-punk/metalcore vibes like they really told haters to suck their dick and moved on. I have to stan unfortunately.

Drop the cartman playlist I’ve only seen the kyle one

as usual with my other playlists, y’all should listen in order!

I wanted to explore as much of Cartman’s complexity as I could while staying narratively cohesive. The opening 4 songs are very much rooted in the first 3 seasons of South Park, paying homage to trey’s favorite bands as well as laying Cartman’s foundations. He starts off one-note: He’s fat. Spoiled. He’s a trouble maker. Lullaby insinuates a schizophrenic or maybe sexually abusive childhood, both of which I believe are key factors in Cartman’s behavior (and his views on love).

Mental, Sweet and Bloodmoney are transitional songs during his weird grey area in season 4. By Mama’s Gun, Eric Cartman is born. Arrogant, Self centered, deluded, and probably insane to a default.

Can’t Get Enough of Myself and The Bitch is Back are self explanatory. Cartman’s full of himself and. well he’s an asshole.

F-10-D-A is a nod to one of the episodes, as well as a highlight to Cartman’s hidden talents, this one being music writing. It’s a weird song, but I feel it’s something Cartman would write. Does that make sense?

Ginger is. I really don’t like this song. I listened to it once and I skipped it. But its absolutely perfect for Cartman’s (surface level) feelings about Kyle. Ruka Ruka Ali is like, the South Park of parody songs. He even sneaks in a comment about Jewish people that’s frankly, really random? Yeah. It’s an extremely Cartman song. Hate it. Very offensive. It’s perfect.

Poker Face (c’mon. it’s very Cartman. and he sang it!!) and Circus highlight his love of the spotlight. He’s a performative guy, he’s good at rallying his peers and he knows it. His vanity isn’t… entirely unfounded, sometimes.

Narcissus is the only song to try and reach Cartman’s rotting conscience, the singers criticizing all of Cartman’s faults and warning him that he’ll end up living his Post-Covid future if he doesn’t change.

The next four songs are stacked in order of Cartman’s complex.

Blood: It’s incredibly, incredibly hard to find a song that perfectly sums up Cartman’s deal with Kyle. Blood fits most of the criteria for now, though; his feelings for Kyle are polarizing, and incredibly, incredibly intense.

Beloved Freak: If he keeps living the way he is, he’ll always find a way to make himself a victim

I’m So Afraid: underneath that fragile ego and evil is a scared ten year old boy. His actions are inexcusable, but it’s very clear that his defense mechanisms (or, arsenal of hate) are used to ward off any weaknesses or any sense of guilt.

Closedown: If we strip away his anger, his talent for denial, the victimization, the selfishness, bratty spoiled attitude, this song is Cartman at his core. I really can’t say much about the song without like, making another 2k wordy post about his psychology. You just gotta listen to the song and trust me on this. Hell someone can send an ask abt why I think the is the perfect Cartman song and I will write that goddamn essay.

GODMODE album has been out for 33 slutty slutty minutes as of writing this and it is already shaping up to become one of my favourites. i feel like i can say this here so i’m just gonna let loose but i think jack doesn’t challenge taylor and that’s why midnights is so…. i hate to say uninspired but that’s how it feels. like, maybe if we weren’t rehashing similar themes in previous albums over and over again with some pretty mediocre beats in the background it’d be fine but someone needs to light a fire under taylor or something, im not even saying this in a “she’s a horrible songwriter” type of way… it just feels like she’s gotten too comfortable and has become maybe stagnant in a way?? like i enjoy karma and sweet nothing is cute but when you look at the lyricism on this album vs her recent work it doesn’t feel cohesive. like she could do better. i’ve seen the argument that people “just hate fun” but that isn’t the truth, we can have fun with taylor… literally look at lover & 1989, it’s just so like “that’s it?”.

first of all, i am so flattered that you came in my inbox to bitch, love you for that <3 second of all, YES!!! COULDN'T FUCKING AGREE MORE!!!!!!! i couldn't put my thoughts into words, but you said it perfectly! yeah, she's fucking rehashing the same themes and i'm sick of it. folklore and evermore are outliers in this, because she very masterfully mixed up her own stories and stories she made up, which is one of the reasons they felt so fresh and exciting, despite both having jack in the credits. i don't want to be an asshole and say that artists are only good when they struggle and suffer, but how many times can you tell the same falling-in-love story? sure, having new perspective can be fun, especially when it's a retrospective/reflective thing, but at this point it just feels... reductive? idk. like, the fact that it's a popular thing for swifties to be like "false god belongs on reputation", or "high infidelity is so evermore!", or "paris sounds like something off 1989" is not good. doesn't necessarily mean she's constantly writing the same song (even though it feels like it sometimes, especially if you rearrange them a bit), it just shows that all three of those pop records are not entirely, and i'm sorry to say this, sonically cohesive. lately, it feels like she just puts most of the songs make it onto her records and very little gets left on the cutting floor or whatever. i do not think songs like mastermind/vigilante shit/paris belong on an album like midnights, purely because i don't think they fit the ~vibe. and that's a problem, at least to me! when i first saw the tracklist, i was So Excited. a 13 track album?? finally, she's gonna pick the very best songs instead of making a bloated 16+ track mess (looking at you, lover)!! oh, wait.. there are 8 more tracks? yeah, that's taylor alright.

i know nothing about music industry, but what i do know is that the most exciting music taylor swift has ever made was heavily influenced by

a) working with a new producer, stepping out of her comfort zone (1989, folklore)

b) going through a horrible break up (red)

c) having Shit to prove to losers and people who doubted her abilities (speak now and 1989)

so yeah, i also agree that she needs to be challenged, needs to try something she hasn't done before. she's incredibly talented and hard-working, to see her waste her time/money/mental resources on shit like midnights when i KNOW she can make shit like 1989, red and folklore, is upsetting.
