Emergency Healing - Penelope 'Penny' Blake/Rose

A/N: Back to Grey's Anatomy for this weeks @flashfictionfridayofficial

Lights and sirens were all part of the job, still when Rose glances up at the incoming mass of teenagers, she moves quickly to scrub in and be on hand for whoever needs her. Penelope Blake, a flash of green-blue eyes and tucking copper hair firmly under the scrub cap, is a revelation. The girl is quiet but swift, checking what is needed on the surgery list before beckoning her on. She’s silent as she helps Penny take control of the bleed, stepping up when the student next to Penny makes a sound of distress and steps away from the patient, her hand steady even as she moves to clean the surgery area of excess blood, allowing Penelope to see what she was doing. It's only later, fresh sirens sounding even as the clean down and prepare for the next that Penny spares her a look and a smile. “Thanks, nice to have a steady hand by my side.” It's honest, Rose thinks, in ways most surgeons or trainees would never be, but she can’t help smiling in response. Penny is, deep down, a good soul and seems warm. Warm enough that when the shift is over and Penny invites her out for a drink, she agrees.

All of the pieces seemed to make sense in Poppy’s head, but that didn’t stop the bundle of nerves from forming in her chest when she neared the door to Faye’s place. The past year had flown by so fast, even if the first couple months had been spent with her either bed ridden or limping around, it had still been one of the best years of her life. No, the best year of her life, and to show the other woman just how much she had appreciated and loved having her around through it all, she'd made dinner plans for the two of them. With a little added bonus of a surprise at the end of the night, a surprise that had caused all of those nerves to surface in the first place. Though to be honest, even after a year, being around Faye still caused butterflies in her stomach.

She wanted tonight to go perfect, as perfect as it could at least. She'd learned since moving to Huntsville that her life and the things that happened in it were far from perfect. Though, deep down, she had always known that. It didn't need to be perfect, she had her sisters, her best friends, and Faye. It may not be perfect, but she wouldn't change any of this. Or anything that led to this moment. Her, Penelope Blake, standing at the door where on the other side was the woman she had fallen in love with so many nights ago. It wasn't difficult. Knock on the door. Go to dinner. Share the news. Ask the question. No, not that question. Not tonight.

Yet as easy as it sounded, as easy as it had been to plan out in her head, she still hesitated for a moment before finally, finally knocking three times on that door. Just feeling the material of the door, remembering exactly where she was, caused a wave of comfort to wash away most of the nerves. It made sense, anytime she came here, it had always been comforting. Almost like some kind of aura inviting her in to just relax, forget about all the worries. The same feeling she got anytime she was around Faye. Comfort.

A soft smile graced her lips now, just in time for the door to open. "Hi," she greeted the other, her smile instantly growing at the sight of the other.

I don't know if I am only biased because I hugely appreciate Samantha Sloyan as an actress, but I really liked Penny. I wish she could've stayed longer.

What I love about Criminal Minds is that the female characters aren’t tough simply because they ‘grew up with brothers’ or because their dads ‘made them brave’.

JJ and Kate grew up with sisters. Emily, Elle, Seaver and Todd were all only children and Emily’s past was shaped by her mother’s actions. Tara, Penelope and Alex all had brothers but those brothers weren’t credited with their success and bravery.

Women don’t need to be around masculine energy to be tough, they don’t need to be influenced by men to be brave. The fact tv shows need to justify their female characters being strong by saying they were around men is just insulting.

Stop treating women like they are weak unless there is a man there to teach them not to be.

reiderwriter 5k writing challenge

hello, my lovelies, and thank you so much for 5k followers~♡ it's been just under a year since I started writing on here, and it's been so fun interacting with everyone and writing for Spencer and the other members of the BAU team! I was a bit unprepared for some of my other milestones and threw some stuff together last minute for them, but I've been thinking about a writing challenge for a while and I finally decided to do it!

Please note: This is a writing challenge! All the prompts below are meant to inspire you to write your own fics and not as prompt requests for me. I hope you can use them as a starting point to write~♡

The theme for the challenge is:

daydreams and shooting stars`☆

There are two sets of prompts to choose from! The daydreams' prompts are based on classic fanfiction tropes that we know and live, and the shooting stars prompts are based on the zodiac signs. There are 12 prompts in each list, and you're welcome to mix and match prompts as you like! Maybe you'd like to combine your star sign with your favourite trope, or two particularly match well, or if you like a single prompt, you can just write for that. I don't mind if the fic is only very loosely based on the prompt, too, do whatever you'd like!

The writing challenge will run up until my 1 year writing anniversary, July 27th, so you have plenty of time to get your fics in! I'll be reblogging all the entries, and at the end, I'll add them to a recommendation list! ONLY ONE BED - a true classic in the sense that I will be reading only one bed fics down to the second I take my last breath. Feel free to invert this to "too many beds," or even "no beds at all, but somehow we're still cuddling," either way, I will read it and likely enjoy it greatly.

GRUMPY X SUNSHINE - which character is grumpy, which character is sunshine? my favourite grumpy x sunshine dynamics are the gloomy character trying their best to become more sunny after a tough life 🫡

FAKE DATING - we, in the criminal minds fandom, have written possibly every undercover mission possible to make our characters make out, but I'm coming in as a simple woman to ask - please do it again 🫶

OH. OH. - the plot revelations! Give me them! The sudden moments of clarity! I'm a fan, goddammit.

IDIOTS IN LOVE - there is nothing better than two huge dumbasses falling head over heels in love with each other in an "aw shucks" kind of way. Also, I'm an idiot, representation matters.

ALTERNATE UNIVERSE - coffee shop AU? Soulmate AU? HANAHAKI AU? If someone could please un- or re- traumatise my favourite characters I will be eternally grateful

SECRET IDENTITY - give the character their Emily Prentiss Lauren Reynolds moment, or just make them dress like a clown for like 30 minutes. Both count.

MUTUAL PINING - This harkens back to idiots in love, but it's about the LONGING, it's about the PITIFUL STARES, it's about the BURNING PASSION.

SECRET RELATIONSHIP - my love of gossip makes me a sucker for secret relationship stories because I truly want to be in everyone's business. Character A and B are dating? Brilliant. It's a secret? BRILLIANT.

SICK FIC - your poor little meow meow has a cold. Or your poor little meow meow has been poisoned with anthrax. Or your poor little meow meow is dealing with possible symptoms of schizophrenia. Or your poor little meow meow has been shot-

ENEMIES TO LOVERS - half of my requests are enemies to lovers requests! Feel free to include rivals to lovers, lovers to enemies, friends to enemies to lovers, enemies to friends to lovers, or any such dynamic that your heart desires.
