List 5 things that make you happy, then put this in the askbox for the last 10 people who liked or reblogged something from you! Get to know your mutuals and followers ⭐️
Well this sounds like a fun thing to list out! Okay, why not, let's get this party goin'!
Becoming a fan of Walton Goggins
Tumblr media
Watching Fallout was one of the best decisions I have ever made because it introduced me to this titan of an actor. Ever since then, I've watched three of his shows, and I'm eating it up with a spoon. What a phenomenal talent. He's really handsome, too, so he's exceptionally easy on the eyes!
Watching Colin and Penelope get together
Tumblr media
Yes, it was a foregone conclusion these two would get together, but that didn't make me any less excited over them finally getting married. I simply adore these two passionate writers!
Making gifs
Tumblr media
Doesn't matter how big or small the fandom is, I love filling my blog with them. It's fandom scrapbooking at its finest!
Getting back into shape
Tumblr media
While I'm not at this level of activity yet, I've taken steps towards taking better care of my physical health and I'm feeling the positive difference, already. I'm lighter on my feet and I'm a lot more nimble!
Listening to music
Tumblr media
My most used app other than the Tumblr app is YouTube Music. I'm almost always listening to music because it helps me stay focused and on task whenever I'm editing. It also helps with the activity levels, because I love to get up and dance every once in a while!
Thanks so much for sending this in!

I still think the most hilarious targeted ad experience I have yet had is when ThriftBooks sent me an email titled "Explore Books About Power Dynamics" recommending I buy a moderately obscure Iris Murdoch, Adele Geras' YA novel about Penelope, Octavia Butler's Kindred, Jo Walton's AU fascist England series, both Ancillary Sword and The Blue Sword, and Anne Rice's The Mummy.

Caravan (Owl Painting), 84 in. x 84 in., Oil on canvas. 2012. National Museum of Wildlife Art Permanent Collection (Jackson, WY). Purchased with funds generously donated by Adrienne & John Mars. Artwork & images ©Peter D. Gerakaris. All Rights Reserved. TRAVELING EXHIBIT: UN/NATURAL SELECTIONS: WILDLIFE IN CONTEMPORARY ART
Installation Views & Museum Preview at The Huson River Museum (Yonkers, NY)
OCTOBER 13, 2023 – JANUARY 14, 2024
From Julie Buffalohead and Kiki Smith to Walton Ford and James Prosek, the artists in this exhibition represent another stage in the evolution of animal art. Wild animals have been present in art since the first artists painted images on cave walls or carved figures in stone tens of thousands of years ago. Today’s artists continue to use animal imagery as away to address humanity’s interconnectedness with the natural world. Un/Natural Selections: Wildlife in Contemporary Art, organized by the National Museum of Wildlife Art, explores the meaning of these creative expressions within the context of contemporary art. Featuring a diverse group of more than forty artworks from the National Museum of Wildlife Art’s permanent collection, the exhibition offers a wide range of styles in a variety of media, divided into four thematic sections: Tradition, Politics,Science, and Aesthetics. These realms act as overlapping chapters, investigating the ways we use animal imagery to tackle human concerns and responsibilities. The title of this exhibition is a play on Charles Darwin’s concept of natural selection from his pivotal writing, On the Origin of Species (1859). Darwin’s ideas contributed much to the development of wildlife art in the late nineteenth century, as artists began to represent animals in natural habitats, enacting natural behaviors. From Julie Buffalohead and Kiki Smith to Walton Ford and James Prosek, the artists in this exhibition represent another stage in the evolution of animal art: choosing to represent animals in alternative, unnatural spaces—spaces more often directly linked to civilization than to wilderness. @spnpocweek | day 1: joy/underrated character
linda’s pride and joy; alternatively, a page torn from a proud mother’s scrapbook, or even top five kevin tran moments season 1-18 ft. channing ngo
ID under the read more
[IMAGE DECRIPTION: A digitally illustrated scrapbook page with five images. The first image features a young Kevin Tran next to young Channing Ngo smiling wide at a Model UN competition session, both around the ages of thirteen and fourteen. Kevin, on the left, is wearing a blue button-down shirt with a blue tie. His hair is shorter, like how it is styled in season nine. Channing is seated on the right, with her long brown hair down and wearing a red blouse. The Model UN conference chambers can be seen behind them, bustling with energy. In the top left corner is a sticker in the shape of a name card that says, “placards up, gavels down”. Underneath the image is a handwritten caption that says “grade 8 model UN + Channing”
The second image is of a baby Kevin laying on his back in a crib. He is pink-cheeked and yawning, swaddled in a blue blanket with a little matching cap. Superimposed next to his head is a message written on the image that says “Welcome KEVIN! DEC 2nd 1993”. Below the baby’s mouth is a sticker shaped like a milk bottle, poised to look like it fell out of his mouth.
To the right of the previous image is an image of a beige rectangular ticket, placed vertically. The image is separated into five sections.
·         Michigan Youth Symphonic Orchestra: Spring Concert
·         Russian Rhaspsodies
·         At Helen Bader Hall
·         Call No: 414-267-2950
·         April 11 2011
·         Guest Soloist: Stas Venglevski
·         Senior Soloists: Fatima Shabazz, Kevin Tran, Malcom Moss, Penelope Ruiz, Amaya Walton
·         7:00pm to 9:00 pm
The third image is of a five-year-old Kevin standing in front of an elementary school. He is wearing a pressed yellow short-sleeved button-down shirt with a green collar, tucked into matching green shorts. On his back is a red and blue backpack, reminiscent of Spiderman’s uniform. His hair is styled in a ‘bowl-cut’. He is looking straight-faced at Linda behind the camera, not excited to start school for the first time. To the right of Kevin is a scrapbook sticker that says “My 1st Day of School” The word ‘first’ is encased on a graphic of an apple.
The fourth image features a Kevin around the age where we first see him canon. He has his hair styled in the long swooping bangs, almost a mullet. He is wearing a black suit jacket, a light blue dress shirt and a blue tie. Looped around his neck is a blue lanyard connected to a tag that says “ISEF. TRAN. 2010.” He is presenting a science project, pointing to a graph on his board. On top of the picture, where is right arm would be, is a sticker of a rocky planetary object with a ring around it with the words “I love Science Fair” written on it. Above the image is a handwritten caption that states “engineering competition! Junior year!” END ID]

i don’t remember if it’s something someone theorized about in one of those foundational books about classical reception but the mark of incredible reception really is how it changes the way you approach the original text. there are passages of the iliad i can’t read without thinking of alice oswald. my interpretation of the aeneid is shaped by ursula le guin. i can’t gloss over penelope’s geese dream. i’m constantly picking up jo walton’s interpretative lens and looking at other bits of ovid through it. they bring out things that you can’t unsee. once they’ve picked up an aspect of the text and turned it this way and that for you, you can’t put it back in the background.

What are you currently reading? is there any books right now you would recommend?
Hi! I can recommend a few books!
I've been trying to read more sci-fi recently, so I just finished Andy Weir's Project Hail Mary. It's about a man who's sent far off into space to figure out a way to save the sun. It wasn't the most thought-provoking book I've ever read, but I did have a lot of fun with it.
I'm also about to read Margaret Atwood's Penelopiad, because a friend was kind enough to lend me her copy. This one is about Penelope, the wife of Odysseus, and her experience of the Odyssey. I've been meaning to read the Penelopiad for awhile, because I loved Ursula Le Guin's Lavinia (an Aeneid interpretation), and I know Le Guin wrote Lavinia partially in response to issues she had with Atwood's Penelopiad.
And because I've mentioned it, Ursula Le Guin's Lavinia is the best classical reception novel I have ever read. If you've looked at the Aeneid before, you will get so much out of this book, and it's really good even if you've never read any of the Aeneid at all.
I always recommend Jo Walton's The Just City, in which the goddess Athena gathers up a bunch of people and tells them to build the city described in Plato's Republic. Apollo decides to live in the city as well, disguised as a human. Also, there are robots. It's wonderful. The next two books in the series aren't as impressive, but I truly can't recommend The Just City enough.
I'm also struggling to get through Robert Graves' I, Claudius. I've been struggling to get through it for months now. I'd recommend you skip this book and just read Tacitus instead.

Robert Newton, Wendy Hiller, Robert Morley, Rex Harrison, and Emlyn Williams in Major Barbara (Gabriel Pascal, 1941) Cast: Wendy Hiller, Rex Harrison, Robert Morley, Robert Newton, Sybil Thorndike, Emlyn Williams, Marie Lohr, Penelope Dudley-Ward, Walter Hudd, David Tree, Deborah Kerr, Donald Calthrop, Marie Ault, Cathleen Cordell, Torin Thatcher, Miles Malleson, Felix Aylmer, Stanley Holloway. Screenplay: George Bernard Shaw, based on his play. Cinematography: Ronald Neame. Production design: Vincent Korda. Film editing: Charles Frend, David Lean. Music: William Walton. George Bernard Shaw's plays often seem to me as if they're about to collapse under the weight of their own cleverness: so many paradoxes, so much witty dialogue, such tantalizingly heretical ideas. Major Barbara is a prime example of this, a duel between faith and realism, between rich and poor, between capitalism and Fabian socialism, between men and women, all treated with the would-be drawing-room-comedy lightness of Oscar Wilde's The Importance of Being Earnest, down to the climactic revelation that the play's ostensible hero is a "foundling" (a euphemism for "bastard"). But the film version slumps down into tedium because Shaw can't resist trying to make his characters, especially Barbara (wonderfully played by Wendy Hiller), into something like real people whenever he wants the audience to feel something instead of just laughing at the bright repartee. The film remains a three-act play, despite attempts to provide some scenes -- the initial meeting of Barbara and Adolphus Cusins (Rex Harrison being archly ardent), the fight between Bill Walker (Robert Newton) and Todger Fairmile (Torin Thatcher), Barbara's tossing her Salvation Army bonnet (and almost herself) into the Thames, and the tour of the hellish munitions factory and its heavenly benevolent-capitalist planned community -- in between the ones we would ordinarily see on stage. We are supposed to continue the dialogue of ideas among ourselves after the movie's over, but the effect of the two-hour-plus barrage of wit is to make me want to be stupid again. The film was rightly celebrated for the skill of its performers and for the tenacity with which it was filmed during the Blitz, but as a whole it's an achievement that hasn't stood the test of time.
