AITA for attacking someone on Artfight? I am female, 31. There's this event called Artfight in which you can draw people's ocs as a ways of making points for your team. I've been participating in Artfight since Tea vs. Coffee and haven't had a problem until last Artfight.

I typically prefer to attack using the random character button and I found a really cute character that was someone's sona that was a dog. It had really nice colors that mixed well with my fursona's colors so I checked their permissions to see if they were okay with their characters/sonas being drawn with others. They were! They even encouraged and really wanted interactions of their characters or sonas with other people's characters or sonas. What caught my eye was that they also encouraged speciesswap too which I thought was cool. My sona is a pooltoy dog so I thought it'd be cool if I speciesswapped their sona to be a pooltoy too! I drew up the attack and posted it, but even after a few days they never commented on it. I noticed they commented on other attacks they got after mine so I thought they had missed it, alright no big deal. I'm not attacking for comments, I'm attacking for fun. Well, I attacked them again later in the month since I had time and I had saved another character of theirs earlier since it was part of a closed species I was apart of, but when I went to submit I realized they had blocked me. I know block evading is wrong now and shouldn't have bothered after realizing but I didn't know at the time, so I contacted them on tumblr to ask what was up if they were upset with me. They called me a proshipper and a freak and a pedo, saying I was disgusting for that attack. I was very confused and upset, so I asked what was wrong with it to see if I could fix it and they said I'm a freak for making fetish art of their sona when it's personal to them and they have stated in their permissions absolutely no fetish content since they're a minor.

Here's where I believe I am the asshole. It is true I do have a pooltoy fetish, but you have to search outside of my Artfight profile to find it. Even so, I keep my NSFW pooltoy work to one outside profile, everything else I ever draw outside of that specific profile, my pooltoy artwork is completely SFW. And I will add their age was not listed anywhere on their Artfight page but even then the art I made was not meant to be fetishic nor did I think it would come off as so? It was just two pooltoy animals having fun. Even so, they told me they reported the attack as soon as they realized, said a few more nasty things to me then blocked my tumblr. I began to think I may have been the asshole as a few people I know have said I should prepare in case that kid and their friends make a PSA on me which is making me think this may have been more severe then I'm thinking it was.

So tl;dr, I have a pooltoy fetish, I drew me and this person's sonas as pooltoys as an Artfight attack since it wasn't against their permissions, and they even encouraged it. They then called me a freak, blocked me and reported my attack. AITA?

I think Bosch would be the type to be able to sit through most movies pretty well with the occasional spooks here and there.

He’s not afraid of Horror/Thriller comedies and watches them passively from time to time: Scream, Trick 'r Treat, and Ready or Not.

But the genre that does get under his skin are suspenseful ones, like The Strangers or The Conjuring, especially when they drag out the tension.

Bosch also doesn’t take too well with overly gory visuals and people screaming bloody murder. So, Terrifier and Sinister are out.

Yes, he knows people are bound to scream because it's a horror movie. But there’s something so guttural about the actor's scream that makes the experience much more uncomfortable.

That, mixed with over-the-top gore would give him an upset stomach for a while.

Same thing with body horror. Seeing people and 'monsters' alike twist and contort into inhuman ways makes him sick. Especially if the plot includes some type of possession or parasite.

Depending on your reaction to Horror movies, he'll either force himself to sit through the whole thing or say that he isn't really feeling it.

"Shutter?" Bosch said, holding out the flyer with a confused tone.

“Yeah, it’s like the it movie right now. Apparently, it scored high on Rotten Tomatoes." You replied.

"Rotten Tomatoes?"

"You know, the place where the general public gives their reviews to see if something is worth seeing." You took the flyer from him. "Have you seen any scary movies lately?”

“I mean, I’ve watched a couple at Coach’s house, but I haven’t gone to an actual movie theater before.”

“Oh cool, that means you get to come with me for the viewing in Metro City tonight.” Your ears perked up.

“Hang on, I didn’t say I was gonna go.”

He ended up going.

After running some errands for Coach, Bosch met you in front of the theater.

The neon lights flickered in the early evening, and a line had already formed outside the box office. You were standing near the entrance, a wide smile spreading across your face when you saw him approaching.

"You made it!" you said, practically bouncing on your feet.

"Yeah, yeah, don't make a big deal out of it," Bosch muttered, scratching the back of his head.

Though he couldn't hide the slight smile tugging at his lips.

The two of you got your tickets and headed inside with the smell of popcorn and the buzz of excited chatter filling the air.

You dragged him to get some food before the showing, but he didn’t expect almost a whole buffet of different things.

Tubs of candy, Icee machines, ice cream bar, alcoholic beverages, Nachos. He thought you said you were only going to watch a movie, why is there so many things to eat.

“Bosch, taste this.”

“Why? It’s just popcorn.”

“Yeah, but it’s different from the homemade ones.”

It’s definitely buttery, but he doesn’t think it’s worth spending 15 Zenny on it.

After you two settled in your seats, you pulled out two warm hot dogs you snuck into the theater.

He can't blame you, seeing the prices of some of the foods made him rethink how he should be spending his night.

"Where were you hiding this?" He whispered, holding the warm hotdog you put in his hands.

"I can tell you, but you have to promise to not get mad."

"...I don't know if I want this hotdog anymore."

He would sit through the whole movie with you. And similar to a cat, he could feel the hairs on the back of his neck stick up when a particularly intense scene showed on the screen.

And unless you like floor popcorn, I suggest that you hold the bucket.

All in all, going to the movie theater wasn’t that bad.

Maybe pick another genre next time.

"Ugh, how do people enjoy this stuff?" he muttered to himself as you two left the theater

"You alright there, Champ?" You asked with your eyes twinkling in amusement.

"I'm fine," Bosch said. "It's just a movie."

"Just a movie, huh?" You teased. "You looked like you were about to jump out of your seat a couple of times."

“Now you’re just seeing things.”

“Maybe.” You laughed.

When you and Bosch parted ways, he tried to push the movie out of his mind.

He busied himself with mundane tasks, hoping to distract himself.

But when it came time to go to bed, he found himself lying awake with every creak and shadow in the room putting him on edge.

Contemplating what to do next, Bosch heard a ping from his phone.

[You]: Can't sleep, Sweetheart?

[Bosch]: Don't call me that. And no, I can't.

[You]: Maybe, I should've eased you into another movie for the movie theater. I think Shutter was too intense for an introduction. Sorry :(

[Bosch]: It’s fine, I’m just trying to pass time before I fall asleep.

[You]: Do you wanna FaceTime?

[Bosch]: No

[You]: Your loss, but hopefully that shadow peeking over your bedside doesn’t get you.

He felt his heart stop as he looked up from his phone.

Seeing nothing he texted:

[Bosch]: I hate you.

Bosch sighed in defeat.

[Bosch]: Fine, but only for little bit.

It was barely 5 seconds before he received the call.

And when he answered, he was greeted with your face staring at him in silence, before you busted out laughing.

"What's so funny?" Bosch asked.

"It looks like you’ve seen a ghost."

"Don't even start."

“Hehe, I’m just pulling on your tail.”You propped yourself up in your bed. “How are you feeling?”

“Good, I guess. I mean as well as I can take a horror movie at night.” Bosch leaned back into his pillow.

You both chatted about mundane things that helped ease his mind. Like his plans for tomorrow, battle hub news, new shops that opened up etc.

He talked to you damn near until the sun rose. And the only reason why you both stopped, was because you had to meet up with one of your Masters tomorrow morning.

“But I wanna keep talking to you.” You sleepily mumbled.

“We can talk later when you’re not busy. Plus, the sun is about to rise in 30 minutes, didn’t you say you had to be there by 8?”

“Ugh, alright, I’ll talk to you later then…” it looked like you wanted to say more, but ultimately decided not to.

He sighed, “I love you too.”

“But I didn’t-“

“That’s what you wanted to say, right?"

"I guess my intentions are too obvious." a shy smile playing on your lips.

Bosch chuckled, a soft, affectionate sound. "Maybe, but it's one of the things that I like about you."

“...Goodnight, Bosch.” You said, feeling the warmth creep up your chest.

“Night…”

As the call ended, Bosch stared at his phone a beat longer, before tossing it on the nightstand. He covered eyes with his forearm, trying to block any lingering light that seeped into his room.

He tried to at least get a wink of sleep before he got back into his normal routine.

It didn't help that the last think on his mind was the way you looked at him when he told you he loved you, instead of some stupid scary movie.

London book shop recommendations?

Summary: A.Z. Fell and Co. is recommended as a local London bookshop on a Reddit post. Chaos ensues when someone actually takes the recommendation and goes there, only to find that: 1. They don't get to buy books 2. The gentle bookshop owner apparently owns a giant python And 3. The bookshop owner is 100% in love with his best friend with the sunglasses OR Ineffable Husbands told through Reddit posts.

London book shop recommendations?

It's very cosy and the collection of books there is honestly unbelievable (I think  there are some texts dating back to the 16th century? Not sure why those are in a book shop instead of a museum). The owner is a lovely man too, but he refuses to sell his books. Not sure why.

              Yeah so, for looking around and sitting?? Fantastic place. Actually purchasing books?? Probably not so much.

Strange soho bookshop that doesn't sell books?

Hello! I've recently been recommended this bookshop called "A.Z. Fell & Co" in Soho. It's quite nice but also... Kinda weird? Not sure how to describe it. So I know it might be quite niche, but I just wanted to know if anyone knows anything about it?

Update on strange soho bookshop that doesn't sell books

Hi everyone! Me again. Not sure if anyone is still keeping up, but I've had a few more trips to "A.Z. Fell & Co" and here are my experiences:

- I've had some people mention weird opening and closing hours, and from what I can tell that is 100% true. The sign at the front door almost melted my brain, but I've figured out the timings pretty good by now.

- The books kept there are very very strange. From what I can tell, most of them are published before the 1930s, and I swear I've seen some ancient texts around... I did find this one book with some pictures of earth and space though, so that's pretty cool.

- Nearly no one comes into the shop! Foot traffic outside is crazy, but every time I've been inside, I'm always the only one there. I understand that bookshops aren't the most interesting things around, but it's still a shop in the smack dab middle of Soho, so the pure emptiness of it is a little weird (take a shot every time I say weird or strange in this post lol)

- Mr Fell, the shop owner, is very very lovely!! There was this one time when I just sat and read for what must be hours, and he didn't even bat an eye - even offered me tea! We sat down, had a little chat about Jane Austen, and I could really tell that he is really passionate about his books - couldn't stop smiling and everything.

He did mumble something weird about Jane Austen being a spy, however, so still quite a weird fellow.

- Mr Fell still doesn't sell books. I asked him the first time I came into the store for some books and he said no, but I just assumed it was maybe because I didn't know him well enough? Anyways I asked him again and he just stared at me like I just asked to take his firstborn. So no luck on that yet.

- I think Mr Fell has a partner but I'm not quite sure about it. There's this man called Crowley that seems to be the only other person that comes into the bookshop, and he's got what is possibly the coolest sense of fashion in the world - I'm talking full two-piece suit, sunglasses on indoors, and bright red hair. Not ginger hair, RED hair. 

Mr Fell calls Crowley "My dear" and Crowley calls him "Angel". They act like an old married couple, bickering and everything, but I really don't wanna assume so... 

That's pretty much all I can think of off the top of my head, I think. I'll keep you guys updated (if anyone is still reading lol) if I find something new!

PS. unrelated but there's this coffee shop that's really nice - "Give Me Coffee or Give Me Death", just across the street from the bookshop. Really good coffee if anyone is looking for a drink!

EDIT: Okay well, this post blew up more than I expected. Good to see that other people are also strangely obsessed with this little bookshop lol! Thanks for the awards and I'll definitely keep you guys updated!!!

Update on "A.Z. Fell & Co"

Hello, I'm back with some more news! 

- First news: Mr Fell has given me his first name! I asked him what A. Z. stood for, and he thought for a while like he doesn't know his first name? Anyways his name is Azira, which I think is quite a cool name.

I tried looking him up on Google but nothing came up, so I tried asking him for his middle name and he got this weirdly panicked look on his face. I didn't push it further because he was turning a little red trying to think. 

- Mr Fell owns a giant snake. I think he's some sort of Python? Not quite sure about it yet. His name is Crawly (ha, like Crowley) and I found him on the floor one morning - gave me the fright of my life! Anyways, he's cute but he has this weirdly human look in his eyes sometimes. He also really likes curling himself next to or just on Mr Fell - didn't know snakes could be clingy lol. Sometimes I feel like I'm intruding on the two of them, which is kinda crazy because one of them is literally a snake.

- Crowley is still coming into the shop fairly often, and he's still just as intimidating as ever. He does, however, do this thing where he kinda melts when he talks to Mr Fell. Kinda hard to explain but you can really tell the difference in his body language. I can't see his eyes because of the sunglasses, but I swear they go soft and everything.

Maybe they're dating, maybe they're not. All I know is that when I ask Mr Fell about Crowley, he talks about him like how he talks about Jane Austen books.

- I've finally managed to lend (heavy focus on the word LEND) a book!! Returned in perfect condition :)

That's all I have for now! Will continue to update if anything else interesting comes up.

EDIT 1: Some people didn't believe in the whole snake shenanigan, which I completely understand (sounds ridiculous to myself too), but I've attached a picture of Crawly just as proof. You can see him curled up next to Mr Fell, which I still think is pretty cute.

EDIT 2: I've asked Mr Fell (in a very awkward conversation), and Crowley is in fact not his partner. I know people have been debating in the comments but Mr Fell says they're just best friends. Will investigate further on the matter.

EDIT 3: I've asked Mr Fell and Crowley if they mind me posting about them, and I am proud to say that I now have the official go ahead from the both of them to post updates. I've also made a subreddit since I feel bad spamming r/London with nothing but A.Z. Fell & Co content lol. I'll be posting future updates at r/AZFellAndCo :)

mirandapanda · 1 yr ago I was one of the people who got 'interrupted' on their way there. I found a little kitten on the side of the road and just couldn't leave her there, so I took her to the vet instead. Not too fussed about it though, since now it helped me meet the absolute love of my life, Luna.

yeahsolikeuhh · 2 mo ago A while back there was this bookshop that blew up because of a reddit post. Apparently the shop's been around for three hundred years or something, and apparently had shit like the first edition of the Great Gatsby and stuff trailing back to the 16th century or something - But that's not even the weird part.

People tried to visit the bookshop because of the popularity obviously, but every time they try, stuff just happens at random and it never happens. Everyone knows the bookshop is there, but no one except OP for that first reddit post has ever actually managed to get in. Sometimes they find a stray cat and get distracted, sometimes a giant storm just instantaneously starts, but literally ZERO people have gotten into that book shop except for OP.

The bookshop owner is called AZIRA (not fucking kidding), with a pet python (also not fucking kidding), who is also apparently dressed like he came out of the Victorian era (still not fucking kidding). Now I'm not saying he's a wizard, but I'm pretty damn sure he's a fucking wizard.

Also apparently he's also in love with his best friend and there's this huge pining thing happening the last time I checked, but I think OP stopped updating a while back so yeah.

One thing I've always wanted since I got into hypnosis in middle school is to be hypnotized to see myself as some sort of furry creature (and as of 2020, to see myself as my fursona, my dragon!). And while I don't see that happening for me anytime soon, one way I like to live that dream vicariously is through some of my subjects.

There's a decent amount of subjects out there who have imposition/phantom touch so it's always lovely to give them attention, pets, cuddles, all that stuff. Sometimes I'll have them feel me purr. But there are a few subjects out there who are able to not only feel but see things with hypnosis too, and that's where I have the most fun, because I'll just have them see my fursona like I'm right there!

Gosh, the sheer amount of things I do with those kind of subjects, I wouldn't be able to list them all. But definitely lots of cuddles, wrapping them up in my tail, having them feel me purr against them, telling them about my lavender scent and how calming it is. With one subject, I'll often snuggle with him while we're vibing in a call, sit on his lap or have him sit on mine. Haha, there was a time where he was having trouble going to bed consistently so I'd have my dragon self drag him to bed at a certain time each night (and I still do it once in a while when he's stubborn). I like to joke about the fact that my sona's basically a big cat inside of a dragon's body so sometimes I'll lick the top of people's heads like I'm a momma cat. I've been experimenting with biting and choking people with my tail as well. Lotta paw worshipping. Like a loooott lol. Spiral eyes as well, and lately I've given my sona a lavender mist she can breathe out that's super hypnotic. It's great honestly. Oh and lots of more not-safe-for-Tumblr stuff as well, you can bet haha.

It's also honestly helped a lot with my gender expression! It took me a while to come up with the form I express myself as now, but I was able to experiment a lot because a couple of close subjects were able to see my sona in whatever way I wanted present her as! Idk if it'd be a good idea to post the NSFT ref sheet on here but she's a gynomorph, I believe? Think a male body but with breasts, and you can use whatever the term for that is.

I am like suuuper jealous of those friends who are able to see my ideal self so easily, haha, but at the same time it's really nice because they talk about how calming it is for them and it helps them feel a lot happier. (and if they don't outright say it, I can definitely see it!)

but yeah, I just wanted to put that out there into the wild, it's pretty cool. :3

if we are going with the federation au (theory?) which if you don't know what it is basic description is foolish, jaiden, quackity and el quackity grew up together raised by the federation before coming to the island but don't remember their time there but subconsciously are drawn to the federation examples are making deals, working for them or being foolish and actively trying to be best pals with the federation if we were to go with "they had jobs in the federation" then here is what i think what jobs they may be!

in another tumblr post @/yippiecubitos explained beautifully why jaiden wouldn't be the scientist one experimenting or building robots and such but i know people really want someone for this role which i present to youuuu Scientist El Quackity! - my reasoning for el quackity goes more with egg a1 and that maybe he is good at mimicking people but in reality would rather create and experiment testing others emotions can be apart of that - important to note here i feel like El quackity never actually separated from the federation. maybe the others had a hard time escaping and he was caught and dragged back? or the other left because they wanted to and were allowed to so he was left by himself. host quackity! - with quackity i think his purpose was to introduce people to the island and make them feel welcome and comfortable like a host would. i feel like this fits a lot especially in the early days because he was always helping both communities Spanish and English to talk to eachother. this fits a lot with him being busy a lot of the time to fix the island, fix the island and make it look nice and somewhat presentable.

-i think that making people friends with eachother and him always being busy with the island is a subconsious feeling because of his time with the federation and he takes it as "oh i just like it this certain way and i just love seeing others get along :]" because he just doesn't remember his time with the federation and doesn't have any reason to question it designer Jaiden

-this would be very fitting for her because she is a great designer as we can see in her creations examples being her drawings outside of the smp or her creation with bobby fields - i imagine her time in the federation designing things and drawing they had a specifc drawing wall with her and foolish's drawings Builder foolish -i feel like this one is quite obvious on why i have given him the builder title i mean just look up "foolish's builds minecraft" and you get to see all of the amazing things he has been able to build.

-i imagine that foolish was first a builder going through basic building instructions and having some fun with building but also had a love for making cooler buildings not basic houses but more themed he wanted to build what he drew but was unable to

If people aren't comfortable reblogging fics to their blog (which I am not, due to a personal history of being doxxed and humiliated to my irl friends and family), are comments sufficient enough engagement or would you rather that reader not engage with your work at all?

I feel like that came out sounding passive aggressive but I truly mean it as a genuine question and am just not sure how to rework it to sound less snarky! I see this discourse on and off from different fic writers and respect both opinions and think everyone should be able to curate interaction with their fics as they see fit.

I've been thinking carefully on how to respond to this. I can tell you're not trying to come off as snarky– which i say as someone who can't read tone for shit most of the time and whose own tone can come off aggressive or bitchy when I don't mean it to be.

I'm gonna address your ask as thoroughly as I can, if that's cool. Sorry if it's a long response. I'll put a cut in so I don't interrupt feeds ✂️

First, I want to pose a question to your question, which I mean genuinely with no spite whatsoever: why are you on Tumblr if you're not reblogging or don't even reblog?

As I've stated in other replies to the post I made a few weeks back, from the way I see it, Tumblr is literally built upon the foundation of sharing creations and content. There is no dead-set algorithm here like there is for Instagram or TikTok. Sharing is, quite fucking literally, caring here. We are able to form communities of all sizes because we share things. Reblogging is essential to the upkeep, and quite frankly the existence, of fandom and communities. Without sharing, our communities crumble and become ruins. We are actively seeing this as we speak: many mutuals and authors I follow are starting to quit writing due to passive, demanding consumption patterns and 0 engagement.

I know you probably know this, but I thought I'd restate it for answer's sake.

To answer the meat of your ask, I will pull from both personal experience and mutuals' experiences and input.

In my own personal opinion, if you are solely commenting on fics and are not engaging in anything else (no likes, no reblogs, etc.) then I personally think that Tumblr is not the site you should be on and, frankly, you should go sign up for AO3 if that's all you're going to do.

And I mean this earnestly. If all you want to do for engagement is commenting, then AO3 needs you because sharing does NOT affect authors nearly as much over there as it does here. In fact comments on AO3 are the literal equivalent to reblog on Tumblr: we don't get any and when we do it's like finding an oasis in a never ending desert.

Now in terms of what mutuals and other authors have said on the matter, it seems the consensus is that commenting without reblogging is a case-by-case basis. I'm going to quote a mutual of mine here:

"...if someone is commenting on my work but not reblogging… I'd say it's case by case. If it's just MY fics they aren’t reblogging, then it'd be a problem, but if they don’t reblog ANY [fics] I'd be more okay."

Another mutuals also put it this way:

"... I feel like there *is* both sides in this sense; yes comments are nice and engaging even though they aren't the preferred and most helpful way to boost writers..."

I feel like both of them put it into words where I struggled to. I will also say that I do agree with the point being that if you're not gonna reblog ANYTHING– no art, no content, no photos, no other fics, nothing– AND your profile adheres to the guidelines set forth in basic Tumblr etiquette (not looking like a bot and not a minor) then sure, comment away.

The verdict, in summary with my opinion and mutuals': it depends on your behavior and your interactions with other works and content.

I hate the word content but I couldn't think of another one.

But, my question still stands: why are you on Tumblr when you don't even participate in the basic fundamental function of this site?

I also wanted to take the time to address the other part of your ask regarding the doxxing and people finding out your identity.

It has been very widely known for (close to) two decades now that Tumblr is the place where you can have an anonymous identity. Truly. I've been on here for the collective half of the last decade and have been on the Internet for a little more than half my life, now, and Tumblr and fandom are literally the biggest and best places where you can be someone else. You can be completely anonymous.

The common denominator, however, is you.

The amount of information you have on your blog is what you choose to put on it. If you state your real name, your state and city, have one of those (imo stupid) carrd things or whatever, then honey– and I mean this in the nicest way possible, truly– that is on you. I know for a fact (from good and bad experiences) that you have all of the power in the world to annonymize yourself while still maintaining yourself on the Internet. That make sense?

A couple of mutuals made very excellent points regarding this:

"...I have a best friend irl who has Tumblr and is so close to the fandoms I'm in, and she doesn't know I write here. I am anonymous on here. I'm suprised she hasnt connected the dots because my aesthetics are the same in real life..."

"...I personally think its pretty easy to be anonymous on tumblr. Especially since usually all we ask is you have that you aren’t a minor at the top of your blog..."

"...it's really easy to be anonymous on the internet [...] you can be an ENTIRELY different person on the internet..."

From that last mutual, I'll paraphrase and go off of another point they made: the fact that you do want to participate and comment negates your ENTIRE arguement because someone– anyone– can find you and your blog through said comment(s).

Your digital footprint is what you leave behind. So if you have your city and state and grade and real name and all this other shit in your blog or carrd or whatever, then you are the only one who is responsible for having put said information out there.

Hell, I've been mutuals with some people going on 2-3 YEARS at this point and the only other things they know about me is my state, general city vicinity, my cat, and what I do for a living. That's it. And we span from early twenties to married with a kid or two.

We are in charge of what we share and I implore you– as someone with a certification in legal information technology– to please educate yourself on your Internet privacy and digital footprint. Please take the time to think about your actions and the information you have online. I STILL do this to this day, even after getting certified and being on the Internet for half my life.

I am sorry that you've gotten doxxed in the past. Truly, I am. It's a horrible act and I hope you never have to experience that again. Please know I am not being dismissive of that nor trying to blame you for said acts.

But it all comes down to you at the end of the day. In general, it's you, your actions, and the consequences of your actions. And if you happen to be a minor, then I strongly urge you to rethink your decisions and maybe step away from social media and utilize critical thinking in order to asses your situation and who you surround yourself with, both online and offline. I wish I had someone to tell me that when I was 14– fuck, even when I was 18.

And I mean it when I say AO3 might suit you more than Tumblr. If any fandom site has more capabilities to be anonymous than Tumblr itself, it's AO3.

Anyways, I think that's all I have to say for you. My DMs and ask box are always open and I am open to more commentary on the matter and related ones so long as it is civil and respectful. I refuse to stop having this conversation.

Grunge

I'm usually chill when I use English, but I kinda messed up this time… Sorry about that.

So, this post is basically a translation of the Korean post you can find in this link.

Initially, I was all calm and composed while translating, but in the end, I couldn't keep it together.

If Urasawa offed Grimmer in the story because their chemistry was just too good to handle? Maybe Urasawa didn't know what to do with them. Like, imagine if everything got resolved and Grimmer survived; they'd totally grab that beer they promised each other, right? And they'd probably realize how similar their pasts and issues are, becoming BFFs in no time with a "You too? Same here." kinda vibe.

So what would be next for them? Runge would ditch the BKA and tag along with Grimmer on his globetrotting adventures, right? Picture Grimmer, slinging a huge bag over his shoulder, turning to Runge (who's rocking some comfy casual wear instead of his usual suit) and asking, "You ready?"

This could've been the ultimate queer ending, so I can't help but suspect that Urasawa was like, "Nope, can't let that happen," and had Grimmer bite the dust. I've been ranting about this to my fellow Monster-loving friends since last year, and now that we're halfway through 2023, I'm still going strong, even translating this into English and posting it on Tumblr. It's just… my heart is so heavy…

I kinda feel like Urasawa is way too into preserving the hetero norm and the whole family thing, which rubs me the wrong way… Sure, it was nice to see Runge regain his humanity and reconnect with his daughter, but taking Grimmer away from him was just cruel. What's so wrong with Heinrich Runge starting fresh with another man? It's like Runge's boyfriend got stolen by the Creator himself… snatched away as soon as they met… How am I supposed to deal with that? I know, of course, that there's a reason why Grimmer was died, and I know that it's the same reason why Johan's real name wasn't revealed… But still, that's not enough…

My inner overinvested otaku is seriously losing its mind over this.

But seriously, if Grimmer had lived and been with Runge, he might've actually gotten his name back… I have no doubt Runge would've played a huge part in helping Grimmer find his true name…

And can I talk about how hilarious it is that Runge was one of the people begging Vardemann to prove Grimmer's innocence in Another Monster? It makes sense for Tenma and Suk, but Runge too? Is it funny or just… I dunno, when I read that part, I couldn't help but think that Runge had some low-key love for Grimmer and held out hope for him. Why else would he care so much about someone he only knew for a day or two?

As someone kinda similar to Runge (which sounds weird, I know), I'm pretty sure he fell hard for Grimmer at first sight. Runge might've seemed chill around Grimmer in Ruhenheim, but deep down, he was shook and amazed. Like, "There's actually someone like this out there?" But it wouldn't have been easy for Runge to acknowledge those feelings, and he might not even have realized it. So he played it cool and treated Grimmer like usual, all the while being super drawn to him. Basically, Runge fell head over heels for Grimmer right away and found a glimmer of hope. If I had to put that hope into words, it'd be: Maybe with this person, I could discover something totally different from everything I've experienced so far.

Yeah, that's the kind of faint yet powerful hope…

But the cold, uncaring Creator… that heartless Creator ripped Grimmer away from Runge…

Recently I broke up with someone who was a mean drunk. In one of our last fights, when he was blacked out, he called all my paintings bullshit and damaged one of them. I think I can fix it but every time I look at it I think of him, and I'm questioning whether I have any talent. What if everyone is just being nice and they all think my art is bullshit?

i'm so sorry, sweetheart, that was an incredibly vindictive and hurtful thing for him to do and it's totally understandable that it caused you a lot of pain. i'm really proud of you for breaking up with him.

i think there's a lot of things i could say here about trusting your friends and not letting this one asshole ruin everything for you, but i think you're probably smart enough to expect me to say that, so i'm going to try saying something else.

first of all, since the awful thought is in your head, let's entertain the idea for a second - let's say your art IS bullshit and other people don't actually like it.

do YOU like your art? does your art make YOU happy?

you're not a renaissance artist drawing to please your patron, you're not painting portraits for a royal family - you're making YOUR art for YOU. do you enjoy making your art? do feel pride when you complete a piece and see the finished work in your hands? does it make you happy to share it with other people and to dream about the next thing you want to work on? does it feel fulfilling and satisfying to look at your work and know that you MADE that?

if all that's true, then it wouldn't actually matter if your art was "bullshit", because humans don't just make art for other people to admire. the creative process itself is valuable and worth doing, no matter how "ugly" the result.

then there's the fact that "good art" is wildly subjective. let me tell you a secret: i don't really like van gogh's work. i mean, starry night is cool, but every other painting of his i've seen, i just don't really get the hype. i think a lot of them are kind of ugly. i sure as FUCK don't get rothko. practically every day i see a drawing on tumblr with like 10k notes and, to be frank, i think it's hideous. then i see a gorgeous drawing with 200 notes and i'm like, why doesn't this have 10k notes?? i can't watch the spiderverse movies because, even though it's technically genius, the jerky art style really bothers me.

even if 10k people hated your art, 10k more would love it. and even if your closest friend didn't like it, that could simply be because it doesn't match their personal taste.

and lastly... ask yourself if you actually WANT a mean, vindictive drunk to like your art. i mean, i'm pretty proud of my writing, but i'm also pretty proud of who would hate my writing. i don't want miserable assholes to enjoy my craft. a person who hurts other people doesn't like what i do? good. fucking choke on it.

i know, i do, that validation means so much to creators. i know that getting comments and kudos on my fic is a thrill, and makes me more excited to write. i haven't gotten any hate, thank goodness, but i'm sure it'd be really upsetting if i did. and yet, i know that i have to write for me, and that outside validation, while nice, can't be the pillar that props up your creative process. it's too unstable, too easily knocked out from under you.

fuck that guy. your art is yours, and it will only improve the more you do it. create for spite, create for grief, create for love, create for hope. create because you are an artist, and no one gets to take that away from you.

I was wondering if you knew any online resources/references describing the phonotactics of different languages for a mostly inexpert audience? When I poke around with my meager googling I tend to only turn up English, but I'd be really curious to see the basic rules laid out for comparison among a few different languages!

Unfortunately I've been out of the academic loop since 2016 and I only remember a handful of resources, most of which aren't inexpert audience friendly(?).

The resource that pops to mind, regardless, is WALS Online - The World Atlas of Language Structures Online. It's a cross-linguistic feature comparison tool. It allows you to generate and investigate global maps based upon a single linguistic feature or multiple features simultaneously. I think it's a cool shortcut because it checks plausibility (for people who might not know interrelatability) on whether a language might have a combination of features. It helps visualize patterns across languages, language families, and regions.

For instance, since we're talking phonotactics, here's the map for syllable structure. Problem is WALS pulls no punches on jargon, and most of the sources it cites are, like, grammars you'd only find in print on a campus library.

On WALS, each language has a page where its features are listed. To learn the details of how the feature manifests, you'd have to use other sources. But WALS at least provides the relevant starting point of individual languages to investigate. Wikipedia ain't... always accurate or comprehensive, of course, in something like linguistics... but it's an easy way to start poking once you know the names of languages you want to snoop at.

You could try your luck with the currently-defunct World Phonotactics Website on the Wayback Machine, though that's not one I know much about, and there is the whole, uh, defunct thing going for it.

Nice stopping in, and thanks for the kind words of that viral post. Funny (if typically tumblr) story about that. I posted it eight years ago intentionally at an off hour of night in hopes it'd get two notes and fade into obscurity. my opinion on every pokemon rival + tier list (spoiler warning for those who even care)

i am not posting this on twitter because people will only hear what they want to hear and they will come at me like seagulls divebombing on a french fry without hearing me out, and i know tumblr users are smarter than that (hopefully) !!!!!!!!!!!! HEY LOOK HERE NOW !!!!!!!!!! now that i've got your attention, this is MY opinion. you can have your own, so discard that reply or ask you're no doubt sending me after taking one glance at the tier list. I care more about you being happy, and I'd rather agree to disagree instead of argue forever about it. S-Tier Silver Silver is such a damn good rival, and his character growth being portrayed through how his Pokemon only evolve once he fully understands they are more than just tools is legitimately a brilliant display of gameplay mechanics being used to tell a story. Seeing the culmination of his progress in the Dragon Den was a fantastic and satisfying conclusion to his character, and he sets a damn strong precedent for every other rival. N N is such a brilliant rival; it's incredible how much detail went into him. For example, every time you fight him (minus the champion fight), he uses pokemon from the previous routes, and the next time you fight him, they don't appear again. While unspoken, it is so so cool how it is implied he releases his friends after battling. In addition, him challenging whether or not it's right to use Pokemon for battling was also a great question to ask, especially in such a story-heavy game like Black and White. But seeing him think about his motives and morals when he keeps getting beat by your team, only to eventually come around at the very end, thinking about it just puts a big smile on my face. N was truly something special. A brilliant rival that was legitimately threatening (especially in the Nimbasa fight where he had a fucking SIGILYPH). A-Tier Truth be told, these characters aren't too far behind the S-Tier picks, but it'd feel weird saying they are on the same level as those guys. Blue The CLASSIC rival. He's always one step ahead of you, and his snobbish attitude is perfect for what a textbook rival should be like. Beating him down for the final time in the champion fight is what truly makes him such a satisfying rival to face. Plus, seeing him be much more chilled out in the sequels is great, especially when he returns in Alola with Red. Barry He's somewhat similar to Silver in the way his character development is showcased through his team composition. I think it REALLY shines when you pick Turtwig as your starter, because it means Barry gets Chimchar; which is such a perfect parallel for him due to the hothead getting the Fire-type (also, Monferno and Infernape have similar animations to Barry, which is pretty cute). He's always in a rush, constantly bumping into you. However, as the story progresses, he stops being so impulsive and starts slowly mellowing down, as you can see by him getting slower pokemon like his Snorlax and Heracross. It eventually culminates in the final battle in the Pokemon League Center, where he finally stops himself from bumping into you. It's a neat display of his growth. B-Tier These characters are pretty much alright. They're good enough. Nothing too exciting, but they're here n' there. Bianca Bianca is pretty simple, but that's part of her strength as a character. She has her struggles with her dad here and there, but what I found to be most striking about her character is how she adapts. She knows she's not as good at Pokemon battling as you or Cheren, but she never feels too bad about it. In fact, it serves as motivation to be useful in other ways, and you can see her stalwart personality really kick in, like how she volunteers to bodyguard in Icirrus, and how she later becomes Juniper's assistant. It's nice to see her find purpose in her journey.

Gladion I will be honest. It has been a modicum of time since I last played the Alola games. But from what I recall, Gladion was a pretty strong character that had great chemistry with the cast. Him showing up with this never-before seen odd Pokemon really helped build up his mystique and seeing the ""asshole""* trope again after a while was great (*although he's not really that much of an asshole, he just cares for his sister and wants to stop his crazy ass mom). You really gain a lot of respect for him after you come across the Type:Null documents. If I replayed the games and got a better grasp on them, I would probably put him a bit higher (or maybe lower, who knows, USUM kind of biffed a lot of things). In any case, please give your thoughts on Gladion in the tags or replies or whatever. I'd appreciate it. Cheren He's basic, that's for sure. But it's nice to have a competent rival to really gear up against (although his team is kind of... carried by his starter and monkey. that purrloin and unfezant are not doing him any favors lol). Seeing him incorporate item use made him much more slippery than the typical rival, and it's a welcome challenge, even if the difficulty increment isn't actually that drastic. That said, as a character, he's kind of a nothingburger, but he serves the "friend" role pretty well. Moreso than most of the other "friend" characters like the XY cast. He's got your back for the most part, and he even acts a little bit like a guide, particularly in the beginning portions like the Pokemon School (Gives you Oran berries and teaches the player about item use) and when you first enter Nacrene (Gives you Chesto Berries for Lenora, a HUGE lifesaver). He's neat. Hau Good ol' Hau. Most people say he's the herald of the "friendly rival" curse, but you could argue the same of XY or even the Hoenn games. But enough about that, let's discuss Hau. Hau doesn't particularly go through any character development, but that's actually one of his character's strengths. He acts as a static character rather than a dynamic one, which you would think would hurt him, but it actually plays to his strengths as he acts as an anchor for the dynamic characters (mostly talking about Gladion and Lillie) to bounce off of and show proof of their character growth. Hau, overall, fits the aesthetic of the Alola games like a glove. He's laid-back, he's relaxed, and he in general just acts like a chill friend you'd like to have around in real life. The story doesn't suffer as a result of his static-ness, but it rather benefits from it. Hau's great.

Hugh Purrloin man. Hugh is a little bit of a rough character to really define, but he's not bad, that's for sure. You see shadows of his gripes with losing his sister's Purrloin all the way in the beginning (such as when he tells you to take good care of your starter) and how vehement he becomes when the rancher family tells him they can't find their Herdier. It's fantastic show-don't-tell, and I find it to be something the later games tend to sadly lack. Hugh is also a pretty good "bro" type of character. He's definitely a "ride or die" character, which you can feel pretty intensely in each of his encounters with Team Plasma. All-in-all, Hugh's good. He unfortunately lacks a little bit of relevancy in the later-game, but he has a pretty stellar early-game showing.

C-Tier This is where things slowly start to droop lower and lower. Not bad, but not exactly great either. You may also notice the more modern rivals here, and that's not purely because I'm a nostalgia-fueled cretin, but rather because modern consoles set a modern & higher standard; one that Pokemon consistently fails to hit the mark on. Hop Hop is so, so close to being a fulfilling character. He's actually one of the rivals that has his character growth portrayed via his team, as seen with how he handles his Wooloo. At first, it's his classic entry mon, but once he begins doubting himself after having a pretty rough lose to Bede, he ends up benching his iconic Wooloo in an attempt to improve. However, once he comes around and realizes he doesn't need to force himself to ditch his friends, his Wooloo makes a triumphant return to a Dubwool in the Champion Cup (with a BANGING soundtrack to boot!) It's a neat character arc with a little ribbon at the top wrapped around it, right? Well, my problem mainly comes in his motivations. He wants to become Champion and surpass his brother. That's all fine, that's respectable, even. However, when he gets beaten by you at the very end, he realizes that maybe he should reconsider. Now, think. What would you do in your shoes if you loved battling but got your dreams dashed in a decisive match by your good friend? If you were as persistent as Hop, you'd probably start by setting your expectations a little lower and build your way up. Maybe you'd try becoming a Gym Leader, forming a nice sort of parallel of Raihan/Leon and Hop/MC, right? With Kabu getting old, he's bound to retire sooner or later, so why not prepare for that position until the day you can finally get your runback? That would make the most sense, right? Right? NOPE HE CHOOSES TO BECOME A POKEMON PROFESSOR OF ALL THINGS WHAT, WHY??? That's like you losing a cooking competition, and instead of refining your skills and maybe taking a sous chef position instead, you chose to become a FARMER. Sure, they're technically related, but why?? Granted, in retrospective, maybe C-Tier is a little harsh, but his ending is completely nonsensical and leaves a bad aftertaste in my mouth.

Bede Ah, yes, jerk rival. Bede is, admittedly, kind of a breath of fresh air. No unknown motive besides just being a plain ol' badly-raised kid who's father figure is an evil corporate millionaire. There's honestly not a lot I can say about Bede other than his arc feels "incomplete", in a way. He has good progression, and not a lot can really be said about him; but I think SwSh is where you start to notice the games are rushed products, and you see the story suffer because of it. The reason I bring that up is because it felt like there was a scene missing from when Bede gets kidnapped by Opal and when Bede shows up in the Champion Cup. It feels too sudden; there should've been a scene where you see Bede slowly learn more from Opal. Maybe a scene where Bede is complaining at first about the new predicament, but eventually Opal confronts him about how she's not going to be able to be a Gym Leader for much longer, and how she's getting old. She then tells Bede that she is entrusting the future of the Gym to him, and he shouldn't waste the new chance she gave to him. Just a minor scene like that would have been enough to make Bede's come-around in the finale a lot more satisfying.

Wally Classic Wally. He's mostly a non-character for most of the game, and you only fight him like, three times? Since the standard for the GBA games wasn't necessarily that high, Wally is, for the most part, pretty inoffensive. He gets a massive glow-up in the remakes with his own battle theme and an impressive battle scene, but he's mostly just an "oh right this kid exists" character. Overall, a kind of forgettable character. He's not bad though, don't get me wrong. May/Brendan Kind of in the same vein as Wally. The GBA games were more focused on exploration and new mechanics rather than having a good story, and it does kind of reflect on the characters. They manage to be passable for the most part. May does get bonus points for having that brutal May 2 fight.

D-Tier This is where things really plummet. Again, if you managed to somehow not read my very colorful disclaimer at the top, I will rephrase it here. You are entitled to your opinion. I care more about you being happy than right, especially when it comes to harmless fictional characters. Marnie Marnie, Marnie, Marnie. So, so close to being not-a-piece-of-stale-white-bread. The heartbreaking thing is that she has a legitimately interesting motive for becoming champion. She wants to become champion and then use her status to help her hometown of Spikemuth prosper after the Pokemon League has been fucking them over due to them not wanting to put a big stadium in their city. A pretty cool motivation. Where is it revealed? Maybe a moonlit discussion at night on the hotel balcony? While riding on the train to the next Wild Area? Maybe even at the Champion Cup, where all her hopes and dreams are on the line? Haha, no, it's ON THE BACK OF HER FUCKING LEAGUE CARD THAT LITERALLY NOBODY IS GOING TO READ. Classic, and I mean it, CLASSIC Gamefreak move. I'm not surprised. Calem/Serena Well, they're... there, alright. I legitimately don't have ANYTHING to really say about them. The only reason they're lower than May/Brendan happens to be because they followed up Black and White, which were VERY story-dense games. Having a sudden shift to these very boring characters was a nasty shock to the system. That being said, they're not at the bottom for two good reasons: 1. I like their designs, the young-adult portrayal of the protagonists is a great progression of how the player characters matured with the players. 2. They have a somewhat memorable lead: Their Fake Out Meowstic. It's nothing terribly scary, but when you do a Nuzlocke, you learn to appreciate it.

Shauna She is only above the other XY "Friends" because she has more screentime in the Furfrou palace (and technically the Team Flare base). She's probably the character with the most personality in the Friend Group, but that's really not saying much, now is it? A damn shame she didn't get a Triple Battle with Serena and the MC in the Flare HQ; She's actually got a half-decent team. F-Tier Tierno and Trevor These guys are actual non-characters. They don't exist for any reason. The only thing I remember about Tierno is that his Roserade only has 1 move. Actually comical behavior.

Nemona Look, I know this is what 60% of you scrolled down here for. If you didn't already, read the colorful disclaimer at the top. I know you have your opinions, and truth be told, I've probably heard them already. So, what's the issue with Nemona? Well, not only do I find her nonsensical random Spanish-word inserting annoying (and before you get on my case, I am a native Spanish speaker. It is my ULTIMATE gripe with how Spanish-speaking characters are represented. I hate it so much. I hate it with a burning passion), but I find that she is the ONLY rival that ACTIVELY BRING DOWN MY ENJOYMENT THE STORY. As milquetoast as the XY crew was, they didn't impair my enjoyment of the game much. If anything, they were just there. But no, Nemona is the only rival that actively makes me roll my eyes when she shows up, and I want to talk about why that is (apart from her Spanglish nonsense that no other character does except maybe the dumbass Team Star grunts that also suck). The Nemona being a stalker memes from the game's launch didn't come out of nowhere; she is INCREDIBLY ever-present throughout the entirety of Victory Road. – "But she's supposed to be the rival, of course she's going to show up a lot!" Yes, but I feel like she overstays her welcome a lot more than she should, especially when most of the time when she shows up, she provides absolutely ZERO dialogue worth of value. For the most part, it's "WOW YOU'RE GOING IN THE GYM WELL GOOD LUCK!!!" and when you leave she goes "WOW YOU'RE GETTING....,.,,S TRONG!!!". It's NOTHING with substance, you could cut it out and make Nemona feel less of a stalker with zero personal boundaries. Imagine if you were playing a Hoenn game and everytime you entered and completed a gym, you had May/Brendan pelt you with "HAHA WOW AREN'T YOU STRONG" over and over. There's a reason people will tell you to cut the fluff when you write something. It doesn't do anything but just waste time if all you're doing is repeating the same goddamn dialogue in a different package. Nemona's dialogue often comes off a lot like the fake positivity one would have to put up with while being pressured by someone else. – "But that's part of her character! She's so good that she pushes everyone else away so the player is her last chance at making an actual rival!" Her basically, for lack of a better word, grooming the player into being her rival feels off-putting. Especially when you consider how much she keeps showing up, and how little she seems to respect normal boundaries. In fact, her obsession is so comically exaggerated (ex. she lets herself into your house, makes several "hey fight me fight me you wanna fight right", and often brushes off whatever you say if you pick a negative option to her) that I was expecting her to have a development that maybe she shouldn't be so forceful. Maybe a moment where she has an epiphany and realizes "maybe pressuring others just because of my loneliness isn't the way to go", and tries to start again on the right foot. Maybe she'd also get the Silver treatment and have a friendship evo evolve when she reached this epiphany. But no, that never came. If anything, her habits become even worse, they become even more obsessive and self-indulgent. They're played for laughs, but it only makes me roll my eyes even harder. !!! WARNING !!!! I suppose this is where I should put a trigger warning of some kind? If you don't want to hear about PTSD or hurt animals, you should probably scroll all the way down. I don't know how to do trigger warnings, but I can at least tell you that you've been warned.

I think the absolute worst moment she has, the moment that turned my dislike of her into disdain, happens in Area Zero. But before I get into that, imagine the following scenario: You have a dog that you love very much, let's call him "Fido", Fido has been with you ever since you were a child, and he was the only one who was ever truly there for you in life as you had very absent parents. When you laughed, he was there for you. When you wept, he was there for you. When you slept, he was right beside you. Now imagine you've grown up and decide to take Fido out for a walk, as you do. However, as you walk across the street, a drunk driver in a pick-up truck barrels towards you, and you only manage to live because Fido shoved you out of the way in the nick of time. After that, the drunk driver speeds away and now you're scared shitless because you're not sure whether or not Fido is alive or not. You can't possibly imagine a life without him, so you do the most reasonable course of action. You take him to an emergency vet and have them try to do anything to help Fido. When he comes back, he is essentially crippled, and the vet says there is nothing more they can do. You're in a state of pure distress. The only friend you've ever known is teetering on the edge of death and there's nothing the people who are supposed to save him can do. So you go out and try to find the solution yourself. You finally make yet another friend in a strange new classmate. With their help, you're able to slowly, but most definitely surely, help Fido recover. And sure enough, you do. Fido makes a full recovery, and you feel the greatest relief you've ever experienced in your life. But the trauma still remains. That sort of shock doesn't leave your body, and it's not unlikely that you gained some sort of trigger as a result of the event. Now imagine you go back to that street, and your friend has brought two other people with them; one of which you don't get along too well but they're friends with your friend, so whatever. You begin to talk about what happened in that street. The memory is still fresh in your mind about what happened to Fido. And how you still remember seeing Fido's body covered in blood, not sure if he survived. And then this friend has the utter audacity to say the following: "HAHA WOW THAT TRUCK SOUNDED PRETTY BIG, I WONDER IF IT WAS A CHEVY OR A FORD" Do you understand how fucking sick it is to say something like that? Do you understand how fucked up it is to say that to someone explaining a traumatic event they went through?

Well that's pretty much what Nemona said to Arven after he explained that. Intentional or not, it made me feel DISGUST towards this character. I don't know what the fuck Gamefreak was smoking when they made that dialogue. I've been through traumatic shit myself. I don't like to mention this, but I still suffer from PTSD, which is what made Arven such a relatable character. To see a character I already dislike say some heinous shit to a character I saw myself in, it made me feel nothing but contempt for her.

Anyway, edgy tangent aside, I think that's pretty much it. I don't have much else to say except leave a tl;dr. tl;dr s tier silver's growth being shown through gameplay is some genius shit for a gb game n is such a fucking cool character in both his gimmick and character development a tier blue is a fantastic baseline for rivals, THE textbook rival barry's character development being shown through gameplay is great, even better if he has infernape b tier bianca finding ways to be useful is nice a character highlight gladion is a good twist on the asshole rival "trope" cheren acts as a great tutorial-esque character while remaining a challenge throughout the entire game hau acts as a great static character to show gladion and lillie's character arcs come to fruition hugh is a huge ride or die bro c tier hop is great except his ending wtf were they smoking bede is missing literally 1 (one) scene wally is mostly there. cool theme though may/brendan they're there, they're fine. d tier marnie's backstory is hidden in the worst possible place calem/serena have good designs and an iconic meowstic but that's about it shauna is there sometimes f tier tierno and trevor are there almost never why do they even exist nemona is a tactless and insensitive character that's about it

Hey, sorry about the anon hassling you. I think what you're doing here is great! It's been very cool to see all these different creators in the fandom get their spotlight, some of which I've never heard of!

I do concur that it'd be nice for the (I assume upcoming?) non-writers bracket to appear in the main tags so more people can vote on it. If you're worried about spamming the tag, you can try and stagger the uploads so you only post one a day or one every 12 hours or such. Tumblr has some nice scheduling features for stuff like that. And honestly, if MML and Hamster and Gretel's tags get so few posts that one post a day fills it up, then anyone browsing that tag is probably so starved for content anyway that they'd be grateful for anything. The promotion of other content creators within the fandom is a good thing and I think people would probably like to see it!

I also have to admit, I would like to reblog the polls I'll be in, but foisting all my followers on a poll with just 30 votes on it feels kind of like cheating…

I thought I'd said this prior lol, but there's been a lot of confusion about it(not ur fault just using this as an example to clarify); the brackets were if for we got a lot of submissions for a specific category, and were just for fun. The only category that got enough submissions for a bracket was the writers bracket, which has already had at least one technical difficulty I've had to work out behind the scenes and that was still split up into two mini-brackets for writers themselves and specific fics. I believe there are just enough people for a general bracket, so if that's something people really want, I can figure out how to do one, but it would likely be very unorganized.

And yeah, but I will say as someone who's been into some obscure stuff, trying to find stuff for your interest and only getting stuff that's technically related(Not a single person who submitted anything cared for Hamster and Gretel, for example, and very few creators submitted have done anything for that show or Milo Murphy's Law), especially in a fandom like this where stuff is tagged as all of the different parts of the Dwampyverse even when it's not quite often. I will use the main tags going forwards however.

At the risk sounding a little dumb, after visiting cohost for the first time, I'd like to know what your general impression of it is. It resembles Tumblr in the ways it matters with the upside of not being stupid about trans people.

i think it feels very like 2012 tumblr for better or worse. i think i would rly like to see DMs and their equivalent to notes bc i think its format makes it harder to find more ppl to follow. not that it's Hard, but just not as easy compared to other sites where that activity is more visible.

on the flip side, actually just letting you post NSFW and having a similar culture to tumblr it's really refreshing to go there and just get smacked in the face with the kind of art that's so unapologetic about its nudity that it'd get u pixilated on here 😹 likewise for nudes.

i think the vibes are really great over there! i just wish it felt more Interactive/Engaging yk? i think as its popularity grows you'll probably see some good additional features added, i would keep an eye on it!

i do know they're p intentional about trying to keep the worst aspects of social media out of cohost and the reasoning is interesting to read bc i don't really give much thought to something like notes fundamentally - so if there's ever a feature u feel is missing i would check their support forums to see if it's either something they're considering or have already said no to.

I'm really excited to see the Speedrunner vs 6 hunters coming up for so many reasons (rant ahead sorry)

1) Who's the sixth hunter ? There's already a lot of speculations (Tommy, Punz, Hannah, Spreen, Foolish, Jojosolos even...) and they're honnestly all great. And they would change so much the video, like clearly Tommy is a great player but he is naturally more fun axed, so it'd be nice to see him on serious business mode (+discduo content <3).

Punz seems more raccord with the others hunters, so it seems the more coherent to add (good PVPer, movement player, good follower too)

Hannah would be just as impressive as Punz. She may be a little less used to play with Dream and the hunters, but that's only from an outside POV, seems like she did great in Squidcraft with Sapnap and George in terms of teaming. And her prowess in MC is not to prove any longer.

Spreen would be super original, great player and great fan content (at least on tumblr, twitch and twitter) : my only worries if it's him is communication (really important in manhunt and difficult to juggle around, though it'd be super cool if they played with the usmp mod) and team play. Then again, 6 hunters is a really difficult level so maybe it's good to add some difficulties for the hunters ? Spreen is absolutely great on his own and I would love to see him 1v1 Dream on a challenge like that. He could purchase Dream with Sapnap, who'd relay info. Idk, it'd be so cool but the changes seem too important to the usual recipe for it to actually happen :(

Foolish : that'd be really good to see, especially since he watched and reviewed manhunt. He is a great addition to any group and good support. I'm not so sure about his skills in PVP and movement though (like litteraly, I don't know anything about them), but then again with sixth hunters not really necessary to have 6 great fighting opponents. But he is really occupied with the q.smp as of now so not sure where he'd find the time (same thing for BBH though so who knows ?)

Jojosolo, I admit, is a guilty pleasure. I'd really love to see her in it, seeing how good of a MC player she is and her willingness to team with Dream, and I think she'd bring many wonderful things to the game - But I doubt she'd be chosen because the team needs to work together and they, outwardly at least, never really did. I'd 100% love to see her there but seeing the new hunters are often close friends of Dream I doubt she'll chosen especially with all the others options

It could also be someone totally different lol (Callahan or RedVelvet would be a great surprise)

2) The game in itself : like, I'm 98% sure it'll be the usual formula with Dream's POV in mc, against his 5 usual hunters and a new one.

BUT it also could be an IRL one, especially now that he has the mask, that he scouted things around and that all their friends went there once.

It could be 6 hunters with totally new hunters (in which case we could have maybe multiple people seen upon) which would compensate the high number

Still think it's going to be the regular format though

3) The plays. Obviously Dream isn't a fan of forgettable videos for his most famous serie : but what will he even be able to do ? I'm not a great mc player (like, I rather build and farm than jump and fight) but the amount of things he already did in mc will restrict him a little in terms of originality. Then again, it's at least 10 videos where they find new ways to beat the game.

That's also why I wonder whether they'll change something about the format or the hunters : but all the previous manhunt got the same doubt about the originality of the play and look where we are.

4) The win. It's no mystery that both Hunters and Dream got a chance to win but to say which here... Like, logically it'd be the hunters. But often it's Dream, who uploads, that gets out victorious. But it's 6 hunters and if he wants to do a follow-up it better be a win for them so he can get revenge. Unless he needs to win so the challenge seems possible. Aaah

Also, the fact the date is unsure. I saw so many people think the manhunt release will be the 23 but it seems to be for his song (presave it if you didn't already !). I doubt Dream would post the two the same day so... I fear I must content myself with a "Speedrunner vs 6 hunters" SOON

Out of curiosity, what are some of the things that you'd like tagged? Maybe in other of importance and how common they are? I'm a bit new to Tumblr so I'm still learning the nettiquette here ^^u

Honestly, I think everyone has different things they'd like tagged, and being open to people asking for specific tags isn't a bad policy. You don't have to accept every request, but being open to tagging specific things that might bother someone for a personal reason can't hurt.

In general, people tend to like it when you tag canons, both so people can block things they don't want to see and so people who are unfamiliar with the canon know where to look if the post interests them. So, like, if there were a gifset of some show that irritates me (or that I haven't watched yet and want to avoid spoilers for) it'd be nice if I could block it. Or if the gifset looks really cool, I might want to know what it is!

(I... should get better at tagging canons, actually. lmao)

It's also considered good etiquette to tag spoilers if something just came out. Like I use "wwdits spoilers" for the new season as it's airing.

Also, anything that's a common trigger. Sexual assault, eating disorders, mental illness, domestic abuse, medical abuse, extreme violence, religion, current events, bigotry, things like that. It's most helpful if you just put the word on its own, like just use the tag "homophobia" if that's something that's alluded to in the post. Do not replace letters or censor the word. That makes it very easy for people who don't want to see that to block that tag specifically.

The fact of the matter, though, is that some people just have different weird little triggers. For me personally, I have some that I can expect to be tagged, like CSA, but others, like D&D, can be more difficult. I block things like "dungeons and dragons" and "critical role", but things slip through or people don't tag those canons. In that case, I often just unfollow for my own peace of mind, unless I know them well enough to make a tag request.

It's malleable, is what I'm getting at. lmao. It's best to just be flexible, in my experience.
