I know it’s probably been said before but as an artist I can’t help but praise the character design of encanto
Tumblr media
Like look at this whole cast of characters who are all related to eachother and still so distinct! One of my all time favorite facts about this movie is that the family are color coordinated! I love that so much because not only does it make it easier for the audience to tell which character comes from what side of the family but it’s also visually appealing!
Also the fact everyone’s outfit contains symbolism relating to their gift!? genius. and mirabels skirt being her own personal scrapbook where you can see she has everyone’s symbol a clever way to display her genuine pride for her family! Isabelas dress being closer to almas magenta than the other members of julietas family emphasizing shes closer with alma and is seen as her successor! I especially love how after “what else can I do?” She changes her dress colour to a dark blue representing that she’s finally found herself and doesn’t want to be just almas clone! She feels more comfortable with her own family and shows it by representing their color!
Also let’s talk about how pepas family all wear warm hues as shown to be bright, fun and ultimately happy. Which makes a lot of sense considering how pepas gift requires her to be happy all the time to avoid “bad weather”. Her family also wear warm tones to possibly help her maintain this and also because compared to what we see in the movie pepas children have a little less pressure and are considered more fun to be around! Also the fact green and magenta are opposite colors on the color wheel and Bruno and alma have a strained relationship. genius.
I just want to appreciate the character design because I feel like it’s just so creative and has had so much thought and heart put into it <3

If you:
You think Alma is a villain deserving of death
You think Pepa is a bad mother/sister
You think Julieta is a bad mother/sister
You think Isabela is a selfish, bad sister/cousin
You think Dolores is selfish, bad cousin
You think Luisa is a careless, bad sister
You think Mirabel is a selfish, bad sister/daughter/granddaughter/niece/cousin
You think Señora Pezmuerto is a whiny, animal abuser
Congratulations, you either misunderstood the entire movie or are projecting onto them.
Fuck the men who are considered angel-like saints or heroes, constantly forgiven or have their bad deeds brushed over, in this fandom and any other.
Justice for the women of Encanto.

LOVE LANGUAGES !!
Tumblr media
ENCANTO KIDS !!
characters included: mirabell madrigal, camilo madrigal, luisa madrigal, dolores madrigal, isabela madrigal
this is in terms of RECEIVING, not GIVING, if this is liked enough i might do another :)
MIRABELL MADRIGAL: quality time
most may think mirabell’s love language would be words of affirmation - considering her family didn’t give her that for most of the movie,
but imo she puts her family and lover into two separate categories, and she doesn’t expect the same thing from each.
and plus, she does like affirmations like “i’m proud of you” not so much “you’re stunning” (as much as she does appreciate it, she would just explode lmfao)
she likes living in the moment with her partner, and it doesn’t matter what they’re talking about, or what they’re doing. it’s a breathe of fresh air - and she needs a lot of it sometimes - especially when she’s stressed.
she loves any kind of love her partner gives, but quality time means the most to her :)
overall rating:
quality time: 10/10
words of affirmation: 9.5/10
gift giving: 7.5/10
acts of service: 6/10
physical touch: 5.5/10
CAMILO MADRIGAL: physical touch
i think the main reason camilo is so into physical touch is becuz this boy CANNOT keep his hands to himself (well, he can, but only if he has to.)
i feel like he’s not a huge fan of words of affirmation and acts of service, he’ll enjoy them coming from u, but there not his favorites.
he doesn’t need words of affirmations becuz he already thinks he’s amazing lol. like you’d go “camilo, ur awesome.” and he’d be like “ik sweetheart, ty for the reminder.”
he also wants to show you how manly he is so he is big on doing acts of service for u, but not so much the other way around. XD
gift giving (or ig receiving in this case) and quality time are something he loves, but physical touch still is at the top.
this bitch is a damn love machine, so he’ll take from u and give anything to u.
overall rating:
quality time: 8.5/10
words of affirmation: 7/10
gift giving: 9/10
acts of service: 6/10
physical touch: 10/10
LUSIA MADRIGAL: words of affirmation
lusia goes through a lot of stress - even after the events of the movie (imo.)
so hearing a simple “your doing great today!” or a “i’m proud of you” makes her cheeks swell from smiling.
she also really appreciated acts of service becuz of this!
she loves gifts, but she feels bad about u spending money on her😭🥹
on top of all this, she loooves physical touch. she loves giving headpats lol. and she loves receiving hugs and kisses, hand kisses will be the death of her heheheheheh
overall rating:
quality time: 7.5/10
words of affirmation: 11/10 !! lol
gift giving: 7/10
acts of service: 10/10
physical touch: 9/10
DOLORES MADRIGAL: receiving gifts
gifts - big or small, mean the absolute world to dolores! to her, it shows you cared enough to 1: buy her something and 2: pay attention to what she likes. and she’s all for it!
your family doesn’t have much money? no biggie! she love’s physical touch too. hand kisses, holding her hips, and playing with her hair are her favorites :) are this things small? yes. but does she love small gestures? also yes.
words of affirmation she also loves, but the appearance based one’s rllyyyy get to her. “you look like stunning today.” or “i love your smile.” are the kind of things she loves :)
quality time doesn’t mean to much to her - as she can always hear her partner anyway. but don’t take that as she doesn’t wanna see you at all, because it’s quite the opposite!
she likes doing acts of service for her partner, and not so much the other way around, just becuz she likes having the feeling of doing something and crossing it off a list.
overall rating:
quality time: 6.5/10
words of affirmation: 9.5/10
gift giving: 10/10
acts of service: 5/10
physical touch: 9/10
ISABELA MADRIGAL: acts of service
home girl can get stressed out - just like the rest of her family, and she really appreciates when it’s taken off of her shoulders.
she really enjoys massages - so physical touch is smth she enjoys.
words of affirmation are sorta different for her, she wants to hear “you’re not perfect, but that’s what i love about u.” or “trying your best is all u can do, don’t push urself.” yk?
isabela enjoys receiving gifts, but it’s not always the way she likes to feel loved, but she cherishes everything u can give her like a diamond🫶
she likes quality time as well - but i can imagine her being busy a lot so sometimes it isn’t always so easy.
overall rating:
quality time: 7/10
words of affirmation: 8.5/10
gift giving: 6.5/10
acts of service: 10/10
physical touch: 8/10
Tumblr media
hey heyyy
i hope y’all enjoyed!
if u wanna request smth go for it!!
if there’s anything offensive/inaccurate here feel free to lmk🫶
love yaaa!! <3

The little things in Encanto that get me is all the ways the family treats Mirabel as the youngest. Because she was the youngest for ten years! So they still see her as little sister!
Stuff like: mid-song, Luisa fixes Mirabel’s glasses for her. Camilo, while trying to scare her, still is very gentle in catching her and tossing her. Luisa and Bruno both raise their voices at Mirabel only to immediately apologize. They tell her “we don’t talk about Bruno, buuut…” because they’re sharing secrets with her! (There is just something about baby sibling that makes you want to tell them everything, I know this as a baby sibling myself) Even them all saying they don’t believe her, but then thinking about what she said and beginning to believe her.
The only one who doesn’t treat her as the youngest is Antonio. But, Antonio treats her as a sort of mentor figure, because they are both the babies! And, in a big family, the baby boy and baby girl are both treated as the babies. So, they treat each other very maturely because they have baby of the family solidarity.
Just… Mirabel is the baby of the family… to the point that Bruno was willing to leave for her, and her dad stands up to the matriarch of the family for her, and she was allowed to walk with Antonio (I really doubt they would have been so forgiving if it was Luisa or Isabella, it’s family baby privilege to do things “wrong” but just get a disappointed look instead of a speech).
Another thing! I know that they are triplets, but I really, really, reaaaaally doubt a tiny lady like Alma squeezed out three children at the exact same time. Which means that one of the triplets is older. And I think it’s Julieta! They call for Julieta when the house is destroyed, and while Bruno apologizes to Pepa, Julieta doesn’t let him apologize to her. Pepa has major middle child vibes, Bruno is definitely supposed to be the youngest (since he is a narrative mirror to Mirabel, the youngest), and Julieta just acts like such a big sister to her siblings at the end!
(Side note. I, too, would marry Julieta, even if it meant marrying into a family that made me feel kind of useless. She is the best. And she’s so sweet and she’s so pretty and Julieta is perfect, I accept no criticism)
My siblings feelings sprout up with this movie, it’s awful, all I can think about is the siblings doing Sibling Mischief.

I'm close to finishing Encanto and I honestly have mixed feelings about Alma. On one hand, she was very stern and controlling over her family family the point where she was the reason most if not all of then were constantly under pressure and afraid of disappointing her and I hold how she scapegoats Mirabel and Bruno for things that weren't her fault against her. On the other hand, she's a scared and traumatized woman who apologized at the end and had a legitimate explanation for her actions.
alma is a very flawed & complex character which i love, especially for the reasons you’ve pointed out. her behaviour stems very clearly from the unresolved, realistic trauma of losing her home, her husband & then having to raise her children all on her own while leading a village.
her thoughts & coping mechanisms bled onto her children, which bled onto theirs. you can see all of alma’s fears in each of her children & grandchildren quite fascinatingly tbh.
pepa has her perfectionism & need for everything to go right, much like isabela then would. julia heals everyone’s pain just as alma was expected to while ignoring her own. luisa has to be strong at all costs, & feels like she’s failing everyone when the fractures in the family come to light. camilo consistently changes face & shape to be whoever is needed to help the villagers, much like alma.
then we have bruno & mirabel who i believe become the “outcasts” in alma’s eyes because they’re the most like her. sure, isabela is there as a mirror image of her grandmother in looks but who else encapsulates alma’s fears & neverending paranoia of things going wrong, that stemmed from intense trauma, than her son who literally has visions of these things?
who else is more like pre - war alma who believed in people & just wanted to be one with her family, her now broken, fractured family than mirabel? mirabel is alma, the alma that could’ve been if she hadn’t had her family torn apart in the civil war. the alma that is now being hurt by herself & her trauma which is probably why mirabel feels so outcast. this is why mirabel is the one to break open pandora’s box, metaphorically & literally. you have to look to the past before you can tackle the future & that’s why their relationship is so important in an individualistic society that pushes throwing away relationships the moment there’s a hint of conflict.
interestingly, antonio is the only one i can’t tie to a facet of alma’s trauma & that’s because he already has her in his life, through mirabel. mirabel, who represents alma’s past self, her untraumatized self. mirabel who stopped that passing onto the next generation in antonio & broke the cycle.

‘Whatever It Takes’ FANART RAHHHHH 🗣🗣🗣
Ok before I get into this. This is fanart for the fic ‘Whatever It Takes’ by the amazing @reikomizuao3 who is so amazing. You guys HAVE to check this fic out. Basically evil Madrigals, but like. Actually evil, and Julieta ain’t playin with Alma no more <333
OK YEAHHHHHHHHHH FANART. As much as I love doing fanart for fics, I don’t do it often for some reason. At least not for whole stories. BUT I HAD TO DO THIS BECAUSE I LOVE IT SO MUCH <33
These are all scene redraws from across the current 8 chapters. I have tons of favs, and I honestly had trouble picking only a few, but I tried to do everyone‼️‼️ I would have done more, but. I had to take a break 😭
Julieta encouraging Pepa to finally let go 👹👹 gotta love the sisterly love <3
Tumblr media
Ok so. First we got Isa and Mira making up early on, thanks to Julieta’s awesome plan, let’s get a round of applause. And then Luisa just being. A menace. Yes she let out the donkeys, and what about it? 🤨
Tumblr media
Dolores being a messenger for her family, and just generally making sure no one tries anything funny. And then a little something for the most recent chapter, where Camilo is pretending to be Alma and bursts out laughing. Love that 💀
Tumblr media
DA COUPLES‼️‼️ Carious scenes, and hey slay in all of them. also, Bruno scaring the crap out of Alma, because he knows he has power over her with his disappearance 😼
Tumblr media
OK THAT'S ALL UNFORTUNATELY. I hope the author likes this as much as I love their fic <33 WHICH YOU SHOULD ALL READ HERE'S THE LINK 🕴🕴🕴

Bruno won't say he's in love!
Tumblr media
A little drawing for Valentine's day: Bruno singing "I won't say I'm in love" and his family behind teasing him because he's clearly in love.
At the start I thought about making it during the day so I used usual colors but since it's happening at night in the end, like in the song, I preferred changing the colors to darkening them.
Here is the original! (It was before I add the family's reply)
Tumblr media
I based my drawing on this screenshot I took of Hercules!
Tumblr media
Because I loved the muses's expressions on it I couldn't not choose it among my screenshots xD
Honestly it came to me because "I won't say I'm in love" is among the songs in my playlist for my fic Bruno's fangirl! Because it's perfect to represent a period during the story!

Unpopular opinion: Pepa's children feel like she can't be around her without her having outbursts, thundering and anger issues. Felix gets tired of comforting his wife and has headaches from her outbursts but won't say anything.
I mean I would be tired as well.
Idk

my encanto analysis/headcanon that no one asked for
so, i was just looking through some encanto fanart and headcanons and came across this piece (artist: https://mobile.twitter.com/ye_enc):
Tumblr media
abuela had triplets - julieta, pepa, and bruno. both julieta and pepa had three kids - isabella, luisa, and mirabel for julieta, and dolores, camilo, and antonio for pepa.
what i noticed is that for each batch of three, each individual falls under a certain category, and it seems to follow by age.
julieta was, as this lovely fanart shows, likely depended on quite frequently for her ability to heal via her cooking. her gift would have been the most useful and therefore she likely would have been praised the most as “the perfect one”.
this, of course, next falls to isabella, who we see this with the most frequently. abuela very clearly is living the life she wished she could have lived through isabella, and is viewed as the perfect golden child by everyone around her.
dolores is a little different, but i believe she still fits the trope. she is basically the physical embodiment of “seen but not heard.” she keeps quiet on the things she knows would upset her family and doesn’t make herself heard, even when she is in pain, whether physical or emotional. she doesn’t tell anyone that she knows bruno has been living in the walls for the ten years he’s been missing; she doesn’t tell anyone about her feelings for mariano, because she knows that will upset abuela and her cousin’s “perfect for the encanto” arrangement; and one can only imagine how loud certain things are to her, that are endurable for us (fireworks, for example).
next are the middle children: pepa, luisa, and camilo. all of them have some kind of pressure on their shoulders. (and - just a fun thing i noticed - while luisa’s literal pressure is the many things she carries, pepa’s pressure is atmospheric pressure, because she controls the weather. but anyway, lol).
all three of these characters are told in one way or another to bottle up their emotions and keep them buried inside. with pepa, we see this very directly as she is constantly told by the other characters (especially abuela) to, as the fanart above shows, calm down and essentially turn off her emotions because of the damage she can cause with her weather powers. this kind of reminds me of the “conceal, don’t feel” thing that elsa had with her gloves. both pepa and elsa demonstrate the same growth throughout their movies, too - learning to accept themselves and their abilities and thus being able to control them instead of being controlled by them - but, i digress.
luisa, by contrast, is indirectly told to keep her emotions at bay. she is treated as something of a useful tool, both by the town and by abuela, and seen in a very masculine light despite her relatively feminine personality. because of this treatment and the expectation that she will always be strong that comes with it, she falls into the same category as pepa.
camilo, like dolores, is a little different, but still fits. we don’t see much of him in the movie, but i imagine he is depended on as being the funny one. if anyone reading this is into k-pop or bts, think of camilo as like the j-hope or the jin of the group. he’s always expected to be funny and smiling, lifting everyone else’s spirits - but who lifts his spirits?
and lastly, we have the youngest siblings - bruno, mirabel, and antonio. they fit into the roll, of course, of the scapegoat, of family disappointments.
bruno was rejected by the town and by his family, seen as a harbinger of chaos and horror, a bad omen - all because he can see the future, something that he obviously cannot control. but, of course, it’s easier to simply blame someone else than accept the truth or take responsibility for your own actions.
mirabel, of course, is treated in much the same way. she is seen as a bad omen, as well, and is quite literally feared to be the one who will destroy the family and the encanto, because of bruno’s vision.
antonio does not quite fit into this category, but i think if he had not gotten a gift, he would have been shunned in much the same way as bruno or mirabel. it can also be argued that his gift isn’t really very useful, and we can see abuela struggle for a moment to think of how they could put his gift to use at the breakfast at the beginning of the movie (”i told them to warm up your seat”).
anyway - this is all to say that each of the siblings in each of the batches of three appears to fill (or almost fill) the same rolls. i’m sure someone else has already noticed this and i’m just late to the party - but i thought it was cool.

Bruno with a foreigner S/O
Tumblr media
a/n: for anon! Hope you like it
---------------------------------------
I think it depends a little on where you're from. Whether or not your culture is too different from his.
If that's the case, he would do his best to understand your culture first. He really loves it when you start talking about what you like or your childhood.
Your accent is kind of funny to him. He finds it cute and could spend hours listening to you without getting tired. He has the biggest heart eyes as he listens to you.
You're in charge of the telenovelas from now on! He will create the script, but he will definitely convince you to be the narrator.
He also consults you about your country and its customs to be able to make more variety of characters.
Introducing you to his family was quite an experience. Bruno knew you would be welcome at Casita without a doubt, he just didn't expect the enthusiasm.
First of all, you were the first person he introduced to his mother and sisters in...you were the first and only.
Alma was really happy, Pepa hugged you after threatening you and Julieta tried not to overwhelm you, but you could see the tears of joy in her eyes.
The children were less subtle. Camilo immediately mentioned your accent, receiving a scolding from Mirabel.
Dolores immediately grabbed your arm and began asking you questions, finding your way of speaking charming.
Isabela and Antonio asked you about the flora and fauna of your country and Luisa simply welcomed you, without wanting to make you feel more uncomfortable or axphyrized like the rest.
In the end, Bruno apologized for the fuss, but you assured him that you had a good time.
He begins to imitate your small gestures. He doesn't do it on purpose, he doesn't even realize it, but you do and you find it adorable.
The rest of the family makes an effort to make you feel included, Julieta and Félix invite you to share dishes from your country and Alma is really interested in your childhood.
Bruno really loves you and he's happy that you were able to open up his view of the world.
He simply loves being with you and learning everything you want to teach him (of course, you do the same, it's a reciprocal and beautiful relationship).

Do you think Félix is so insistent on telling Mirabel about Bruno because he doesn’t normally get to talk about his wedding? Like, Bruno “ruined” the wedding, and they aren’t allowed to talk about him, so do you think this is the only time he gets to talk about his wedding?
