They’ve now conned people out of $130 so please share this post to bring awareness that their post is a scam post. (Link removed as the account deactivated.)

The blog is a scammer. They don’t own Elvira and here is how I know. The PayPal address their using isn’t the one owned by the actual owner. The real owner isn’t a tumblr user and their post has been stolen by the scam account word for word. No money donated to the PayPal username kathnicols is going to the cat. Also the PayPal address is in the Philippines and if you pay attention to the vet bill it’s for MA.

The blogs bio is stolen from another blog.

Which is basically the scammer trying to look like someone’s alt account.

Please don’t donate to thetreeonthecountryside/thetreepoink. They block/delete any reblogs/comments that call them out so you have to do it another way. This scammer doesn’t care about this cat they just stole it off Facebook. Here is the original owners posts.

The ask being sent:

“Greetings! Hi there! Pardon me for being this direct. But my little kitty needs your help, i know times are tough but please if you have some time to spare, kindly boost/share the post I pinned for her. It would be so meaningful to me as I’m hoping it would reach more people.. please 💔🙏 praying you’d consider, and pls kindly send me a msg for a response or answer the ask privately so I could atleast thank you for doing us a favor! Wishing you good health and peace! 🫶🏽”

They deactivated, but unfortunately that means their post can still spread by reblogs. However, they can’t delete any reblogs that call them a scammer.

A very simple quick way to tell if the blog sending you an ask to share their pinned pet post is a scam with timestamps enabled:

They followed you randomly and sent the ask seconds later

The posts before pinned are reblogged minutes apart and are fit to a certain trending theme

They told you to answer PRIVATELY despite their post being public meaning they could be trying to hide their asks

The pinned post is not very old and at best is hours/days/weeks old

Things you should do:

Search the ask in tumblr search to see if it was sent to other users

Search the name on their address to see if it is known to belong to someone who isn’t being truthful and steals fundraisers

Check to see if the fundraiser is copied from Facebook/Gofundme by going to those sites and either searching the pet name or part of the story. Most likely you will locate the source unless it was posted to a private group in which you won’t be able to locate it

Be aware that if someone sends you an ask begging you for money, or to share their post with information about how to send them money, it is a scam.

There is no dying/dead relative. There is no sick pet. There is no poor soul who was kicked out of their parents' house with nowhere to go.

People who genuinely are in need of assistance seek out charities, GoFundMe, and the like, where there is oversight to the donation process. They are places that are very good at stamping out people who exploit their site to scam people out of money. This is why scammers usually avoid those places so they don't get caught.

Scams like this are preying on your kind nature and desire to help those in dire straits. They target trending tags and go after those who have reblogged posts about how to donate to those suffering actual tragedies, like the one in Palestine.

When you get one of these asks, don't respond to it. Do not engage.

The scammer will ask for a private response. This is to minimize the risk that people will realize that it's a copypasta. Chances are, if you do a search quoting parts of it, you'll find the same ask posted elsewhere. Often times you'll find these asks came from multiple different blogs that no longer exist because they got caught.

Here is a recent scam ask that I received. I am posting it in full so that people can know what to look out for.

Hey, hi! Im really sorry for sending this, i just hope im not overstepping any boundaries as I’m about to ask help which is very important right now :( our cat, Sleepy needs an urgent vet care. She is pain and I can't afford to pay the vet to help her so I'm reaching out to ask for help, I mean even if you can’t help monetarily, reblogging or sharing it would truly mean a lot. She is my daughter’s best friend and she’s all I have left of my mom who passed away last 2021. In case you’d be insterested to help, I have pinned the post on my blog, please try to also answer the ask privately as some people tend to get weird on this stuff. Please send us prayers, be safe. ♥️🙏

If you're still unsure, check the asker's blog. Even if they have an icon and some info listed to pass the initial bot test, there are other signs to look out for.

Was the blog recently created?

Was the pinned post made about the time the blog was created?

Is the pinned post full of popular tags unrelated to the requested donation?

Is there a focus on other donation posts in the reblogs?

Were the other reblogs also made around the time the blog was created?

Can you find the images/text in the pinned post elsewhere on unrelated pages?

Remember, this is a person digitally knocking door to door asking for money while giving everyone they come across a very sad story to pull at their heartstrings. If you would be wary of a stranger coming up to you on the street to ask you for money, be just as wary as someone sliding into your inbox.

Remember that there are plenty of people who prey on your kindness. They will lie, and many of them are very good at it. They don't feel bad about manipulating you and making you feel like you're the bad person for denying them. They don't care about you or others, they only care about themselves.

I am the real owner of Eeyore. I started a crowdfunding fundraiser for support for my cat's major dental exam to determine if he had cancer or not and Eeyore-pg stole my post and reposted it on Tumblr using their paypal account instead of mine. I have reported their post to Tumblr - please don't donate to this person! They are scammers.

i will not be donating to your campaign which i presume was stolen from someone who was actually in need. ironically i received this ask not a minute after giving a ko-fi to @kyra45 who spends their time tracking down and exposing scams such as this one, and i recommend others to do the same!

Well, that's interesting. The country code says it's for the Philippines. That seems like a very long drive if you're taking your cat to Indiana. Hell, it's so long of a drive you'd be driving over the literal Pacific Ocean.

I did consider the possibility that Laura might also be running the rampant pet donation scams we have on this site but I sort of dismissed it bcos I thought, like with the rate that the pet scammer changes blogs after they're caught and sometimes even running two blogs at once, Laura couldn't possibly be capable of managing it by herself.

Then, @kyra45 mentioned that during the most recent Laura incident, the pet scammer was not active until it was over, which, sure, may just be another hell of a coincidence against Laura's favor, but then we also have proof indicating that Laura is very likely getting help from her friends and family. So I think it's also worth looking into the pet scammers for this series.

Here we have asks sent by Laura using her old blog from before itssmelau as well as a handful of pet scammer asks which I found when I tried entering some of the phrases she used in the search function.
