#pet food price inflation
indizombie · 2 years
Quote
The ingredients of pet foods include meat, grains and micronutrients - all of which have become more expensive in recent months. It's a global problem. The cost of pet food is up by 10.3% in the US, 8.8% in the European Union, and 8.4% in the UK. Helping to drive up food prices is the soaring cost of energy used in their production, says Prof William Chen from Singapore's Nanyang Technological University. "The uncertainties on food production remain as a result of climate change, the Covid-19 pandemic and geopolitical tensions. Together with the perception that pet food may be seen as less critical as compared with consumer food, prices for pet food may not fall any time soon."

i think the most annoying part of dog food discourse is how many people will act as though proplan/hill’s/Royal canin diets aren’t extremely and prohibitively expensive and that THAT is the reason so many people look into healthy alternatives.
People complain about corn being in the first five ingredients on most of those feeds because, regardless of other factors here, that is not an expensive ingredient. But it makes up a large chunk of the dry food. So the dry food should be fairly affordable, right?
Tumblr media
Oh… with tax you’re spending about $100 for one 45lb bag of food where the third ingredient is wheat and the fourth and fifth ingredients are corn.
Tumblr media
Oh… well! It’s slightly cheaper! But the second ingredient is rice, third is wheat, fourth is corn, and then fifth is poultry byproduct. None of those are very expensive so this just must be the low end cost of dog food unfortunately. The vets recommend it so surely that means prices aren’t inflated, right?
Tumblr media
Oh? This one has similar ingredients with the only real difference being no corn? And it’s half the price?? Well surely that’s just a fluke.
Tumblr media
Oh. Oh no.
Tumblr media
This one even has CORN in it and it’s $20 cheaper?? Wow!
Like listen at some point I don’t care if your dog food has the ichor of the gods in it, I’m not spending $100 every five days if there are cheaper options with just as many “good” ingredients in it. If you think I’m a dog abuser because I can’t afford this overpriced garbage, that’s too bad. I don’t care. My dogs are perfectly healthy with the food I give them. Great weight and great coat. People giving dog food recommendations that aren’t those top three hyper-expensive dog foods aren’t trying to epic own those dastardly vets half the time, but I really don’t blame the ones who do lose trust in vets when the only heartworm protection they recommend lately are expensive triple-action brands like Simparica Trio that costs $120+ as opposed to the other heartworm protections that are only about $40-$60 on average, which is still cheaper even if you add on a $20-$40 flea and tick protection separately, and only recommend dog food that costs $85+ a bag even if your dog doesn’t have specialized dietary needs.
Those top three foods are GREAT at making competent prescription diets, I don’t deny that. I do still have to criticize the pricing of those prescription diets though because I have spoken to DOZENS of people who had to pull their pets off of a prescription diet and struggle to find something comparable because they couldn’t afford the food, and that’s terrible! These are not poor companies! Purina, Royal Canin, and Hill’s can ABSOLUTELY afford to lower their prices to make their food accessible to people who need it for their animals but they don’t. They probably never will. Because at the core they are run by greedy corporations. It doesn’t matter how many good nutritionists are on board if the company is run by people who put profits over customers and make the food impossible for people to afford.
#I keep seeing posts from people on both sides of this#and it is frustrating to see how many vets don’t seem to acknowledge#that a MASSIVE part of the dog food debate has and always will be#the inaccessibility of these three brands#because whether corn is good or bad or neutral for a dog#It’s a cheap ingredient#any meat byproducts are a cheap ingredient#wheat in any form is a cheap ingredient#rice is a cheap ingredient#they aren’t putting Diamond dust and gold flakes in the kibble it’s very accessible and affordable ingredients for the most part#and many comparatively smaller companies use very similar ingredients and make food people can actually afford#So yeah when people look at these factors it does make them distrust vets who will almost exclusively push expensive brands#and that’s where the distrust is coming from#it’s not primarily smug tiktok kids who think they know everything#it’s just people who have less money than you and get treated like they care less for their animals because of it lol#and people who feel scammed because anything veterinary is already expensive to the point not everyone can afford it as regularly as needed#the fact people have to give pets vaccines themselves to make ends meet because most vets charge so much just to walk in the door#is a sign of a larger problem#I criticize people who avoid taking animals with surprise sickness or injuries to the vet#but it’s not exactly hard to see why that isn’t even an option for a lot of people#people can’t even afford surgery on themselves if they’re suddenly injured out of the blue in this country#So I can’t pretend to be shocked they don’t have $10k squirreled away if something unavoidable happens to a pet#no one is entitled to an animal they can’t afford yes yes but a routine vet visit shouldn’t be $600-$1000 per animal sorry#give me a copay or something

asking from pure curiosity - why do you still live with your dad? why not take the dogs and go? you don’t seem to like the family members that would give you shit for leaving, so fuck their opinions, right?
again - purely curious, because there seems to be zero upside to living with him and i want you to be okay <3
I WOULD, god i would, in a heartbeat. however where i live house prices are astronomical, for a 1 bed box of a flat that doesnt allow pets, it's over £1200 for rent per month not including food, gas, electric, water, or anything else. i make £1248 BEFORE tax, as a wage per month, my bills are without rent, around £670, thats phone bills, car payment, insurance payments, internet payments etc.
I wouldn't be able to cope financially.
And council housing, which WOULD be doable, even WITH all the 'housing points' i've been given, i'm still up in the 100's on the list of people waiting for a place thanks to the housing crisis caused by the government selling council properties years ago, deeply misjudging what people would do with those houses once they bought them.
they rented the ex council houses out to renters with inflated prices so nobody could afford them anymore, causing homelessness spikes!
There's always the house share option, but i have two dogs that i couldnt take with me and there's no way to know if i'd be comfortable there either given my dislike of in person human interaction, plus i tried house mates in university and i wanted to kill them all by week two.
If i could afford it, i would be gone within a day, and they'd never see or hear from me again.

If you are one of the people who will be directly affected by Project 2025 - if you are transgender, a woman, lgbtqia+, an immigrant, or atheist, I strongly encourage you to formulate an escape/survival plan.
IF YOU PLAN TO LEAVE THE COUNTRY:
Join expat groups on Faceb00k. People will often post housing, job offers, or general advice in these groups that may be beneficial when moving. (Expat groups I'm in: Mexico: 1, 2, 3, 4 / Canada: 1, 2, 3 / Sweden: 1, 2 / Germany: 1, 2)
Apply for a U.S. Passport. As it currently stands, you can't travel to many places internationally without one. If you are trying to move before refugee status is available, this document will become necessary. Passports are still backed up right now, and can take months to arrive. If you are able, start applying now!
Brush up on any marketable skills. Look into the country you want to move to and see if you have any skills they are in need of! Lots of countries will often expedite your immigration status if you have skills they need.
Make sure you can take your pets with you. Lots of countries have breed restrictions (for instance, the U.K. has banned pitbulls and other bully breeds). Make sure that wherever you are going, you can take your pets. Look into travel options for dogs (airline, cruise, etc.) If you can't take your pets, make a plan to leave them with someone stateside who will take care of them. Do your best to minimize the risk of them ending up at a shelter.
Buy a house in your desired country. Many countries, such as Portugal, view buying property in their country as a verifiable means of immigration. Many countries also have lower housing prices than the U.S. so it may be more financially feasible than buying stateside.
Move closer to the border. If you plan to move somewhere that shares a land border with the U.S., consider moving closer to that border. My partner and I are currently looking at moving from South Carolina to Washington state so that if the time comes, we are that much closer to the border.
Figure out how you're going to get there. If you are driving, (Canada, Mexico), look into importing your car. Canada has specific regulations about what kinds of cars are allowed to be imported due to their strict environmental protection laws.
Learn the language. Duolingo and YouTube University are both free!
IF YOU CAN'T LEAVE THE COUNTRY, STILL FORMULATE A PLAN:
Create a community. Make friends with people of a similar mindset as you. Collaborate amongst each other to keep each other safe. Create groups in your local area. Meet at the library or a local park. Make connections and allies so when the time comes, you are not alone.
Find out what assets you can liquidate quickly for extra cash. If you have things like gold jewelry, keep those. Gold is often better than cash (especially if inflation keeps going up). However, gaming consoles, collectibles, and antiques may be easily sold/pawned if you need to get cash quickly. Make notes of what valuables you have.
Learn survival skills. Maybe not completely necessary, but rather safe than sorry. Learn how to build a shelter, start a fire, and forage. I did most of my survival training at a YMCA. YouTube and your local library are also great places to look!
Create spaces in your home where you can hide things. Make false bottoms in dresser drawers. Make a false wall in your closet or a hidden crawlspace access.
Stockpile the things you need. If you need certain meds to function, try to find alternative ways to get them. If you have the money to buy extra canned food, put them away in storage. If you smoke, stockpile cigarettes or other tobacco products. Those may also be helpful for trading later.
Protect yourselves. If you have no other choice, find a way to protect yourself if the time comes. Whether that is through allies or weapons, PROTECT YOURSELF. At the end of the day, your life is more important than your politics. Don't be a Batman when N@zis are on the loose.
MOST IMPORTANTLY:
Do not lose hope! More than anything, people have the "indomitable human spirit." When push comes to shove, humanity fights back. Generations before us have fought to protect themselves before, and we will do it again. Our communities will survive.

hi niko! so about neopets, i made an account on grundo's cafe a bit ago but there's so much stuff on the website i got overwhelmed o.o i never played the og neopets when i was younger so is there any like set system to how this works? if i adopt a pet do i have to check in on them everyday? any beginner tips? thank u in advance because i'm so clueless -w-
hiii!! here's a guide of some basic neopets tips!
if you don't feel like feeding them food every day i highly suggest checking them into the neolodge! this ensures your pet remains fully fed without you needing to do anything B) grundos also sends you a neomail reminder when your pet checks out, so you can check them back in!
grundos, for some reason, also makes it so your pet gets sad way faster than neopets. every couple weeks you may need to play with your pet repeatedly using a toy for a little while until they're "Delighted!" unless you don't mind seeing their sad artwork on your profile lol
neopets also has activities you can do for free (or a small fee) every day to get rewards and np - these are called "dailies"
grundo's is an excellent neoclone to start with because your dailies are all listed as icons in the column at the far right of the page! after you complete a daily, the icon will vanish to indicate you've done it for the day, then reappear once they reset (12am NST for most of them)
"timelies" are activities that can be re-done after a certain amt of time has passed (ranging from every 30 minutes for the healing springs to every 12 hours for coltzan's shrine)
i typically do not do ALL the dailies listed every day, but i have a small list i like to check because they have a pretty good chance of yielding high value items or relics that can be redeemed at grundo's warehouse for credits
dailies i make a point to do every day include:
collecting my bank interest
wise old king (i click "randomize", the choices don't actually matter it's all just a randomized outcome)
grumpy old king (you can do this twice per day, also just randomize this one too)
fruit machine (the odds are much better than actual neopets and you can score a paintbrush if you get three of a kind for certain fruits)
tombola
magical discarded blue plushie of prosperity
island music (for two reasons: if the song lyrics presented have the word "Kyrii" in them, i think you get awarded an exclusive avatar + and also bc there's a small chance that you can receive a free relic from this daily)
lab ray (if you've got it)
coltzan's shrine (every 12 hours, but i usually treat it as a daily bc i forget to do it again later on)
healing springs (you can do this one every 30 mins)
grundos is also excellent about awarding valuable items to reduce inflation. this makes it so you can easily earn money!
check out the games and find one you like, because if you reach a certain threshold with your score 3 times a day, you can receive a randomized rare item! (usually i get a codestone, but i've also received neggs, piles of beads which sell for a good chunk of change, and also notably, paintbrushes and morphing potions!)
when selling items, be sure to price check on the shop wizard and trading post before listing a price. if the item isn't found on shop wizard, it's too expensive for your store! (items in your shop can be sold at a maximum of 99,999 np, any more than that and you must sell them in an auction or trading post lot)
if you have any other more specific questions or need more advice feel free to dm me or add me on discord! (miravariable is my handle, just lemme know who you are first!)

It’s incredible how expensive specialized pet foods are.. clearly that industry is using the fear people have of their pets being harmed or dying to sell more of their product and for a very inflated price. It’s fucked up

Hard Knock Life
Somebody else also said that America's economy will go the way of Zimbabwe, very much like what Celestial said that it's going to come to pass anyways. That is hyperinflation, where prices rise far higher than they should. It may not be there yet, but it will come in a few weeks and months from now. The US media is lying about the US economy because it's undergoing a rising inflation that it will become unsustainable in the near future.
If inflation rises so quickly in a few months from now, then American life will no longer be the same. Americans will no longer afford the amenities and necessities of life, so they steal to get what they want and go over the borders to do just that. Americans will be desperate enough to find ways of getting those products, whether by stealing or communal effort, they find those when they want and need them to be. Not only that, a number of industries there will collapse too.
Some companies have grown broke as to desperately want to get bought by others, so Chinese and Russian companies swoop in and buy them right away. Fast food restaurants there will close for good, but Americans will be so desperate for food that they'll find anything to eat, even pets and people! The American economy will be in such a bad place that it's unable to export its goods to its allies anymore, it will not be able to support its allies anymore in wartime either.
The American economy will tank so badly that it'll drag almost every other country with it, so its allies will be this desperate to join their enemies instead. Canada, Britain and Ireland will join Russia anyways in a single day, while South Korea, Japan and the Philippines reconcile themselves to China. Its tanking will happen much sooner than expected, it'll happen towards the end of the year. But it won't be a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year for America.
The holiday season will be where America's economy is at its worst, so broke and broken that the Philippines ends up joining China out of desperation. Not to mention America will be especially judged for its cruelty to African Americans, children and Native Americans, that no sooner or later what it did to those people are what Russia will do to it. The American economy will tank much faster than expected, it'll even happen in just one year and a few months from now.
So broke it can't get back to the top anymore.

The Consumer Price Index for food increased by 3.3% in 2020, the highest jump since 2008. The price of beef, pork, and other proteins broke all-time records as food inflation rose to the highest level in over a decade. Consumers were hit hard by this surge in prices, particularly as wages stayed largely stagnant despite the recession.
In response to this drastic increase in food prices, sellers began examining various ways to keep their prices down. Compounding for food, or the practice of selling items in bulk for lower prices, has become increasingly popular as a way to keep food prices at a more manageable level.
By buying in bulk, sellers can benefit from bulk pricing discounts and lower their prices significantly. Consumers, in turn, can save money by buying larger amounts of food with no increase in prices.
This trend of compounding is slowly becoming more popular among both sellers and consumers. Grocery stores and restaurants alike are shifting to offer larger packages and containers of food, including fruits, vegetables, and other perishable items. This move appeal to both price-conscious consumers and those looking to reduce waste.
Compounding is also becoming popular outside of food sales. Consumers are taking advantage of bulk purchase discounts for items such as clothing, household items, and even pet supplies.
The benefit of compounding is clear for both sellers and customers. By purchasing items in bulk, sellers can benefit from discounts, reduce their inventory costs, and reduce overhead, resulting in lower prices for consumers. On the other hand, customers can take advantage of discounts and save money on their purchases, without sacrificing quality or quantity.
Compounding is an effective way to help both sellers and consumers during these tough economic times. By shifting to this type of bulk buying, sellers are able to keep their prices down and customers can save money while also reducing waste. As more people become aware of these benefits, compounding is likely to become even more prevalent in food and other markets.

You know, it really is the little things that drive home how out of fucking hand rich people are getting with inflation. I get these rawhide alternative chews for my dog, because she's only 7 pounds, and I don't feel like a proper bone is safe for her. A single bag of those chews costs what I pay for a 2 month supply of her dry food. They used to be $3 a bag now they're $11.
I'm stuck buying them because my dog loves them, and these slimy fucking companies know people are going to swallow glass and keep buying them for the sake of their pets. My dog isn't going to understand I got price gouged, no dog is, and these American Psycho mother fuckers in board rooms are taking advantage of shit like that. I swear to god I can't remember the last time I walked away from a business in this capitalist hellworld feeling like I got a good deal on something.

Target Stores To Lower Prices On About 5,000 Basic Goods As Inflation Cuts Into Budgets –The Daily Record reporting
Target plans to cut prices on thousands of consumer basics this summer, from diapers to milk, as inflation cuts into household budgets and more Americans pay closer attention to their spending.
The price cuts, already applied to 1,500 items, will include 5,000 food, drink and essential household goods. Target and other retailers are increasingly catering to customers who are struggling with higher prices for groceries, though inflation has begun to cool. Many have switched to private label brands sold by Target and others big retailers, which are typically less expensive than well-known brands.
Target launched one such collection in January called Dealworthy which includes nearly 400 basic items, ranging from clothing to electronics, that can cost less than $1, with most items under $10.
Last week, McDonald’s said that it was planning to introduce a $5 meal deal in the U.S. next month to counter slowing sales and customers’ frustration with high prices. Walmart posted strong quarterly sales last week, driven by a influx of customers looking for bargains.
Target is cognizant of the pullback by shoppers due to inflation and because of the increased cost of using credit cards. The company in March reported its first annual decline in sales — 1.7% — in seven years.
Target said customers will be able to score reduced prices on food items like milk, bread, fruits and vegetables. They’ll also see price reductions on goods such as diapers and pet food.

Breaking Down the Costs of High-Quality Pet Food
Tumblr media
Introduction:
When it comes to our furry companions, we want nothing but the best. That includes their diet. High-quality pet food has become increasingly popular, promising better health and longevity for our beloved pets. However, the price tag attached to these premium options often raises eyebrows. Let's delve into the intricacies of pet food costs and decipher why investing in quality nutrition might just be worth every penny.
Understanding the Value Proposition of Premium Pet Food:
Premium pet food brands pride themselves on using top-tier ingredients, often sourced locally or organically. These ingredients undergo stringent quality control measures to ensure optimal nutrition for pets. While the initial cost may seem steep compared to budget options, the long-term benefits are undeniable. Healthier ingredients translate to fewer visits to the vet, lower medical bills, and ultimately, a happier, more energetic pet. It's an investment in their well-being that pays dividends over time.
Breaking Down the Ingredients: What Goes into High-Quality Pet Food?
Quality comes at a price, and that's particularly true when it comes to pet food ingredients. Premium options boast a higher percentage of real meat, vegetables, and whole grains, steering clear of fillers and by-products commonly found in cheaper alternatives. This focus on nutritionally dense ingredients ensures that every bite counts, providing pets with the essential nutrients they need to thrive. From omega-3 fatty acids for a shiny coat to antioxidants for a robust immune system, these ingredients are carefully selected to cater to pets' specific dietary requirements.
Navigating Manufacturing Costs: The Price of Quality Assurance in Pet Food Production
Behind every bag of premium pet food lies a meticulous manufacturing process. From research and development to quality assurance testing, ensuring consistency and safety comes at a cost. High-quality facilities adhere to stringent standards set by regulatory bodies, implementing measures to prevent contamination and ensure nutritional integrity. While these investments may inflate the price of pet food, they guarantee peace of mind for pet owners, knowing that their furry friends are consuming food that meets the highest safety and quality standards.
Click here to know more : -
The Impact of Packaging and Branding: Aesthetic Appeal vs. Practicality
Packaging plays a pivotal role in the marketing of pet food. Premium brands invest in eye-catching designs and informative labels that convey trust and credibility. While the aesthetic appeal may contribute to the overall cost, it also serves a practical purpose. Resealable bags maintain freshness and prevent spoilage, preserving the quality of the food until the last morsel. Furthermore, transparent labeling allows pet owners to make informed decisions about their purchases, ensuring they know exactly what they're feeding their pets.
Weighing the Financial Implications: Budgeting for High-Quality Pet Food
While the upfront cost of premium pet food may seem daunting, adopting a long-term perspective reveals its financial benefits. By prioritizing quality nutrition, pet owners can potentially save on healthcare expenses down the line. Fewer trips to the vet, reduced medication costs, and improved overall health can offset the initial investment in high-quality pet food. Additionally, considering the joy and companionship our pets bring into our lives, providing them with the best possible diet is a small price to pay for their well-being.
Conclusion:
In the realm of pet ownership, the adage "you get what you pay for" holds true. While budget-friendly pet food options may seem enticing, they often fall short in terms of nutritional value and safety. Investing in high-quality pet food may require a larger upfront investment, but the long-term benefits far outweigh the costs. From superior ingredients to rigorous quality control measures, every aspect of premium pet food is designed to prioritize pets' health and happiness. So, the next time you're faced with the decision between budget and premium pet food, remember that the price of quality nutrition is a small sacrifice for the well-being of our furry companions.

Trying to walk the line between sleepy bitch syndrome and too busy to sleep syndrome
I wish I wasn't so exhausted all the time. But at least the pet food has all arrived, and I think maybe the carpet cleaner and kitty calming pheromones too? Lup has been picking fights with EVERYONE and I'm hoping the plugin will calm her down a bit. And I definitely need to give the upstairs landing a good scrubbing this week. I think probably Friday? I cleaned the downstairs bathroom already, and once the landing is clean, I'm gonna get the upstairs bathroom clean and restocked too. Hopefully cracking down on some of the tidying, getting through my overdue paperwork, and maybe even writing up a new schedule for myself will help me feel more settled and structured.
I do need to buy the coop and poults this week I think. Our budget is straining at the inflated grocery prices and while we should be okay through summer harvests, we need to be more self-sufficient by fall or we'll definitely start to struggle. We should be able to raise a few fryers by the end of summer for our fall meat supply, and the layer hens should be grown by winter when egg prices go up again. If we can get the lawn resown by the summer, we should be able to harvest greens and roots well into winter too. I just need to keep organized and on top of things.

UK Annual Inflation Rate Holds Steady - A Detailed Look at Price Changes Across Everyday Items
Tumblr media
The UK's annual inflation rate for September surprised economists by maintaining its level at 6.7%. This unexpected steadiness was driven by soaring fuel costs, which countered the first monthly drop in food prices in two years. So i have made an observation and I really want to tell yall about it.
so what do you know about Pet Sites and Premium currency?
Typically pet sites have a form of premium content so they can make money and keep the servers going (as well as buy more servers so you having 100s of pet slots that each hold little pockets of data known as a pet). the typical conversion rate for premium currency and non premium currency is 1 premium currency for every 10k non premium currency. so, Flight Rising for example, uses this metric. 1 gem is worth 10k treasure. 10k treasure is worth 1 gem. 1 gem isn't very much on flight rising, since if you have your lair fed to a certain limit you'll get three gems a day. most people don't price things for 1 gem unless they just want to get rid of it. 10k treasure is still a lot of treasure. so you could take 1 of your free gems and "sell it" for 10k treasure, not in any official way but in a exchange with other players.
with this in mind, I direct you to the recently out of beta Lorwolf. similar to Flight Rising, when you join the site you pick a faction. this can't be changed but there is a glitch where you can play the intro again with the other factions.
one of the mechanics of lorwolf is professions- fishing, hunting, cooking, crafting, farming, mining. hunting, fishing, and farming feed into cooking and mining, fishing, and hunting feed into crafting. all of these have a small chance to reward you with moonstone shards. 10 shards+bonepaste=1 moon stone. the premium currency.
to speed up farming you can bribe the farmer with dishes. at first it was only pumpkin pie and bug soup. in a recent updated that added salt and pepper, the number of dishes have expanded. these dishes use salt and pepper. they also added profession based quests you can repeat to get rewards, but the quests are faction locked.
If you join the yellow faction, you get a cooking quest that rewards salt.
when this update rolled out, the exchange was 1 moonstone = 10k pebbles, lorwolf's common currency. Salt was being told for 5 moonstones, or 50k pebbles in the user market.
one salt. 1. was being sold for 50k pebbles. for context- if you are very lucky, you get 1 moonstone shard every 3 hours. if you have a max amount of wolves in your den each having a companion (familiar/petpet) that gives money, you can earn 1 whole moonstone every 6 hours. you could earn 5 in 20 hours. That is if you have a full den, which many users won't have at first. wild wolves are hard to get (its a meme at this point) and your wolves can't give birth if you have less than 4 slots. so unless you are very lucky, you will at most have 2184 pebbles every hour instead of 2500, which isn't that big a difference, just means it'll now take 22 hours to earn 5 moonstones worth of pebbles to buy one salt.
after a few days, the price of salt doubled. 10 moonstones for 1 salt. 100,000 pebbles. users in the yellow faction were inflating the price of salt, because they were the only users who could get salt. salt is used in recipes to bribe the farmers, yes, but this food can also be fed to your wolves to refill their energy, which allows you to level them up, send them on hunting trips, go fishing, and mine. see how 3 professions use wolf energy? and how all three are the ones that feed into all but farming? you could just stuff your wolf with mushrooms, but its slow and you get mushrooms from exploring which takes up energy. you could stuff them with bugs but it sure is easier to use the bugs to make a soup and feed the wolf. but getting the bugs requires exploring.
this is all to say, many people want salt to make things easier. they don't NEED salt, but it turns watching compost and water into a non issue and lets you feed your wolves less food to go explore, hunt, fish, mine, and other activities more often.
at some point between 1 moonstone = 20k pebbles, the price of salt shifted. note, that unless the mole market is very generous and stocks salt (which you can only buy 10 at a time) you can only get salt for free and with no effort if you are in the yellow faction.
salt became 2 moonstones... or 5000 pebbles. 5k pebbles. this is 1 salt. and 2 moonstones.
this means 1 moonstone = 2,500 pebbles.
The supply and demand for salt has altered the value of the premium currency twice, once doubling it, and now it is worth less than half of what it was originally.
and it IS the value of moonstones, since other things have also started to be affected. at one point in time players were trading salt for moonstones. not pebbles. and then it became no reason to use moonstones if you had salt. now it is easier to get the premium currency because it is difficult to get salt.
like i said, salt isn't a necessity, it just makes your life as a lorwolf user easier. and there is the glitch that lets you join the yellow faction after you've completed the tutorial.
its just really interesting to see this happen. for personal context i get 5300 pebbles every hour. I currently have 300k pebbles because I was lucky and got salt a few times. I still sell salt, just at the lowered price. I joined the purple faction and have not taken advantage of the glitch cause i'm worried it will lock me in when the glitch is removed.
